When we dined, it seemed like they were only seating people outside. They had a large patio with lots of plants. Service was fine, but occasionally forgetful/inattentive. We ordered the following: XLB Combo, Eggplant Bao (seared), and Chili Pork Dumplings (soup style). It was interesting trying the variety of flavors of their XLB, and while it was unique, I can't say I'd go for it again. The Pho and Tom Yum flavors in particular made me want to go have the actual soups rather than those tiny bites of dumplings. The other items were decent, but none stood out as a reason to return. While it was nice to try once, with so many dining options in SF, I don't see myself returning.

Came here on a Saturday at 5PM to have an early birthday day dinner. There were lots of street parking around and we got inside quickly. We ordered a bit of everything to share and everything came out fast. It wasn't busy at all and I like that they played kpop on the tv. We got the green beans, chili pork dumplings, 10 piece xlb combo, scallion noodles, pork gyoza, shrimp fried rice and chocolate xlb. Everything was pretty good and flavorful. My favorite had to be the scallion noodles then the spicy pork dumplings and shrimp fried rice. For the XLB combo, my favorite was definitely the pho xlb and my friends really enjoyed the kimchi xlb :) The chocolate xlb was a bit hard to eat and the chocolate oozes out easily. I love how generous they are with the chocolate yum! Would definitely come back :)

The Xiao Long Bao here are very unique such as the Tom Yum, Pho, Kimchi, and Wagyu. All the Xiao Long Bao were very tasty and the broth inside was flavorful. The Pho XLB had bean sprouts, cilantro, and lime on the side to compliment the flavor of pho. The Kimchi XLB was served with a side of kimchi. The Wagyu had a piece of edible gold on top which provided an elegant presentation. The Tom Yum was my favorite as the broth was yummy and tasted like Tom Yum soup! Service was good as the employees were helpful and friendly. There is ample outdoor seating with heaters so it is a nice area to eat and enjoy the outdoors.

i was in san francisco for a one-day work trip, and once the day wrapped, we all went out to eat. i was genuinely excited to partake in dumplings because... it's san francisco. you kind of expect a moment. unfortunately, dumpling time was incredibly underwhelming. lots of bland. i understand not every meal is going to be a home run, but wow, this was aggressively average. eating on the company's dime makes it sting a little less (our ceo would absolutely hate to hear this happened, lol), but still. the shrimp toast was truly interesting and delicious. the clear standout in my mind. the wagyu truffle gyoza though... truffle who? flavor where? very much lacking, especially for something that sounds so promising. the tom kha soup dumplings were also shockingly bland, which was the most disappointing part for me. the ambiance itself was laid back, which i did appreciate. overall: sad. not terrible, just forgettable. which somehow feels worse when you're expecting something special in sf.

Stopped in for a quick Saturday dim sum. We enjoyed a number of dishes including the Beijing noodles, green beans, BBQ pork bao, pork XLBs, har gaw, siu mai, and veggie xi'an dumplings. Everything hit the spot with the xi'an dumplings, fluffy bao, and green beans being the favorites. Service was warm and efficient. The place itself is family friendly, fairly large with many indoor and outdoor tables. Recommend stopping by if you are in the area, and craving dim sum.

I don't live in the city but I've had to come up here every day because my wife had been transferred to a hospital in San Francisco. She went through a spell of being terribly nauseaus and only certain foods could be kept down. She's a fan of dumplings so we found this place on door dash and tried it. The Wagyu XLB is one of the best things I've ever eaten. And no that's not hyperbole.Everything we had from this place was great but those specific dumplings were amazing. My wife also was a big fan. She had the vegetable dumplings and not only was able to keep it down with her nausea, but would also get it again and she is a picky eater. The worst thing we ate there is something I would descriebe as "good but I don't need it again." I won't name the item because it really wasn't bad at all, it was just outshined by everything else. I have since recommened thist o a few different doctors and nurses at her hospital and two have reported back to us that they loved it as well. In fact one nurse's wife now wants Dumpling Time at least once a week. When I die, if the Wagyu XLB is the last thing I eat, it would not be a wasted life.

I was in the neighborhood so I walked around and found this place for a late lunch. They have a huge patio, which I imagine could get lively, especially with large crowds. Nice menu with photos were presented and I opted for the pickled cucumbers (crisp and refreshing w/tangy bite) & large juicy lamb dumplings, which were presented under a radish topping. Overall, a very satisfying meal and nice service. Their interior is quite large as well!

Hate to do this, but wow this place just isn't the same. Everything tasted oily with mediocre flavor. This was my first visit after a few years of being gone from the city. I hyped this place up to friends and family and left embarrassed by my own suggestion that I was initially so confident with. I always talked about dumpling time with such reminiscence when I talked about SF. I tried the pho XLB dumplings, the meat was gross - green beans and spicy pork dumplings were so oily they were barely edible. Service was decent and the food came out fast. But I don't think I can recommend this place anymore. Around COVID this was the bees knees. Huge lines. Amazing quality. No more.

Honestly, the dumplings at other hole in the wall places in SF have more flavor. And for $22 this didn't hit the spot. The noodles were good & potstickers too! Just wouldn't be back. I like a lot of other places more.

I am a sucker for a good cucumber salad and they have one. Lots of vinegar with a touch of spicy pepper. They also have a nice bao, vegetable dumpling and chicken wings. We were seating quickly and our order taken promptly. They gave us a nice carafe of water. We like to stay hydrated! They checked on us several times to make sure we did not need anything. Everyone was very pleasant and chatty. The vibe was great also. Look forward to returning!

Great casual dumpling spot! As a pescatarian I appreciate the seafood options for dumplings/xlb. For the steamed dumplings, ask for the hot and spicy option - the broth was very flavorful and great to dip some shrimp toast in. Scallion noodles were so-so and the shrimp toast was pretty average/smaller than I remember. Lobster siu mai was good!

Great takeout spot. Food was delicious and spicy. Big fan of the oyster mushrooms and pork buns. Service was great, super easy to pick up my takeout order. Ambiance seemed fun and vibey inside. Decorated well.

This is my first time coming to the original location after visiting the Thrive City location many times. Ironically, I came here before going to an event at the Chase Center. One big difference I notice about this location was the price here was much cheaper. Variety XLB (5/5): I recommend this if you want to try a variety of the XLB. They have 10 pieces with 2 of each flavor (Tom Yum, Pho, Kimchi, OG) I really like the pho one. Potato Gyoza (4/5): This gyoza is filled with curry potatoes. I thought the potatoes had a mash potato texture. The curry part was great though. Definitely a unique try. Pork chili wontons (3/5); A bit dry for my taste. It could use some more sauce. Shrimp toast (5/5): Even though I'm allergic, this is my must get. It was crunchy and the shrimp was soft. Perfect balance! Fried rice (3/5): Simple and typical. Nothing too crazy about it. Overall, if there's no Chase center event, I'd rather go here.

Are you open Christmas Eve and/or Christmas Day?

    Yes!

Do you use MSG in your food?

MSG isn't bad for you, doesn't cause headaches, etc. It's a racist myth.…

    Are you open on Saturday?

Yes-every Saturday but they don't check to see if you've been vaxed or not. Awesome food however-great place to bring a date!

    Is the outdoor area heated?

Greetings, there are heaters above the tables that are along the windows, we sat there , but then asked to be moved inside for a bigger table. The Heater was working really good, our table I felt was too warm. Best to you, they have the best…

Are they asking for vaccine cards?

Not anytime since I've been there -5 times in the past 4 months.

Is it open for indoor seating ? Any way to make a reservation?

Yes indoor seating. I don't think they do reservations.

    Do you take reservation?

First come first serve I believe. They have a sign up sheet at the front when it does get too busy.

Is there patio dining for lunch on Weds?

Yes, they have a large outdoor seating area that is open for lunch on Wednesdays.

Does anyone know if this place is doing outdoor seating?

As of Thursday of just last week no just a pick-up window

Still open for delivery/take out during this shelter in place?

Yes! We ordered last week and they’re posting daily on Instagram.

I like the jellyfish can you make them less salty. Like 50% less?

Don't know -ask the waiter/waitress before you order!

Will they be open Christmas Day?

    Yes

Is there anything on the menu that is spicy?

No, but you can ask for the spicy chili oil!

Why don't they serve white rice?

Why eat rice when you can eat dumplings!?!?

Do they have non pork Xiao long bao?

    Sadly, no.

Where can I get those black and beige chairs they have? And what is that style called?

The materials are ratan, bamboo or cane. I think if you look for weaved ratan chairs you might found some.

    Do they take any reservation?

    No, they do not.

Do they have any MSG free options? I really like Shanghai Dumpling King but they do not have anything without MSG except the green beans, which you have to special order without MSG. Thanks!

I don't think they use MSG in any of their foods.

    Can i order to go?

Yes! You can order for pick up or can order delivery through Caviar. Thank you!

Do they have vegetarian or vegan options? Also, would a group of 14 people be too many and what's the average wait time on a Saturday evening? (My friends and I are making plans for prom).

They do! Not too many but what they have are GREAT! The dessert buns are a must and that's Vegetarian (The Custard one wouldn't be vegan). There're savory veggie dishes as well. Agreed with PT. 14 people will be tough, but I've seen a large table…

This is our "official" dim sum option for weeknight take out. Personal favorites for me are always going to be the salt/pepper wings, the steamed pork buns, the crystal shrimp dumplings, and the scallion pancakes. My wife loves the soup dumplings, the shu mai. We could eat those dishes every week until we die pretty much, they are reliably good and comforting. Particular shout out on the pork buns though because they are just the absolute best consistency from a filling/bun standpoint. Soft, pillowy, they are glorious. I used to get pork buns from Good Mong Kok Bakery, but tbh, this is about 10x better. The soup dumpling also are quite good, I like the spicy ones but the black truffle is defintely worth it for the occasional splurge. They give you the red vinegar for it too which not all places do. Everything one needs to enjoy. I haven't been in person so I couldn't speak for the service or the location, but if you want a spot that delivers on time and often includes items for free (the pork buns are now free for orders over $50), this is great value and just great food. The staff were friendly and super prompt about clearing empty plates and refilling our tea whenever we signaled it was done, which is always great as the dishes just get on coming! We ordered a bunch of dishes to share, and several really stood out. The spicy tendon was fantastic, shredded paper thin and swimming in a classic spicy sauce. The spicy lamb dumplings were another highlight, with an incredibly thin wrapper and a super flavorful and not gamey at all lamb filling. I also loved the stir fried rice cakes, which were sliced thin enough to avoid that overly chewy texture, and the stir fried noodles Shanghai style were classic and simple in the best way, with big chunks of cabbage and meat and just executed really (the chefs clearly have some serious wok skills!). Not everything we ordered was an absolute knockout as the vegetable dishes could use a bit more flavor and seasoning, but everything overall was good, and the portions across the board were very generous. The desserts were a last-minute decision and I am so glad we went for them. The lava custard buns were fluffy and amazing, with a molten salted egg custard inside, and the sesame balls had a satisfyingly crispy exterior that gave way to a perfectly chewy interior and sweet red bean filling. The value here is also excellent. We left absolutely stuffed and spent around $30 per person, which felt like a great deal for how much food we got and how much we enjoyed it. Highly recommend!

I walked into the restaurant about 45 minutes before closing time at 9:30 PM and several other diners came in after I was seated. The unsettled weather made the people hungry for dumplings. Bao is warm and woody and serene on the inside, a great counterpoint to the bustle of Valencia at every hour. Upon entering there is a large window looking on to the kitchen prep area where culinary experts are often at work constructing the food diners later enjoy on their plates. Tonight a couple of wizards were in the process of making chicken potstickers. Even being vegetarian, just seeing how the dumplings and other items are made is like seeing secrets being shared. I love it and it sets the vibe for the restaurant. My order consisted of the steamed vegetarian buns and sautéed string beans. The buns come out beautifully presented and taste even better: the bun itself is just slightly sweet and that sweetness adds an amazing dimension to the chopped fresh vegetables inside. Can't tell you what any of these veggies are individually and I don't care, they are so good. Next came the sautéed string beans and the sear on the beans themselves was perfect and smoky and delicious. The crispness of the sautee makes the string beans a lovely pairing with the soft yummy of the steamed buns. Last came the sesame balls as a sweet meal ending. I love donuts and fresh-made sesame balls are similar to a donut hole just with a filling that is actually food and so sweetly tasty. The outer fry was crisp and the insides absolutely perfect. The spare ribs had a really nice savory flavor from the sauce. The egg tarts were okay. I need to note that these bags are leftovers from the day, so they're not as fresh. But they held up the next day so I was able to stretch 2 meals out of them. I can't comment on service since these bags are only for pick up. But they quickly provide the bags once the window open.
