The Spicy soup dumplings were large and super delicious and not that spicy. The Pork Dan dan noodles were excellent and should have one order per person. The Pan fried soup dumplings were juicy and flavorful. The soup sauce inside is really good! Next time we will order the hand pulled noodles with peanut sauce. We will return! read more

Cool spot in the Mission that's only been around a couple of years. There's a bar with seating plus a mix of tables and booths. Service was great. Sleek, modern decor with a casual vibe and lots of potted plants and eclectic art pieces hanging from the ceiling. Couldn't tell if they were trying too hard to define its character to fit into the Mission, or if it added to the theme/vibe of the food experience. Anywho, we ordered the XLB, green beans, cucumber salad, and pan-fried dumplings, and everything was pretty good. Nothing to rave about, but hey there's no Din Tai Fung in the city. The soup dumplings are the specialty here and they deliver - juicy and flavorful. Fair warning though: they splatter when you bite in, so lean over your plate and use that soup spoon they give you. The cucumber salad was garlicky and a little spicy, and a nice refreshing counter to the richer stuff. Right off Valencia in the heart of the Mission, so parking can be a bit of a pain. Service was curt, but reasonable I suppose. We ordered garlic noodles, cucumber salad, pan fried vegetable dumplings, and steamed chicken dumplings. The cucumber salad was yummy. It was spicy and garlicky and refreshing. The garlic noodles were perfectly cooked and tasty, but lacked some seasoning in my opinion (but not in the eyes of my fella). Now for the dumpling stories. I've been to their other locations but not to this one, and we all left happy and full! This Dumpling Story location is easy to pass by but deceiving in size. It's sleek and stylish decor-wise. The vibes are super casual, which is nice. They have a bar with seating, a large table in the middle, and smaller tables. We were one of the first customers, having come in at opening, but it got busy fast! Service was good, and food came out fast. We shared everything family style. We ordered: Crab and Pork Xiao Long Bao, Shrimp and Squash Xiao Long Bao, Vegetable Dumplings, Juicy Pork Bao, and House Special Sesame Paste Noodles. What I enjoy is the overall consistency and quality of their items compared to those at their other restaurants. My personal favorites were the pork dumplings we ordered. The pan-fried part was crispy, and the steamed ones were juicy and flavorful. The shrimp and squash lacked flavor, as if they were cut-up pieces thrown into a dumpling. I recommend getting their pork dumplings! If you're in the mood for dumplings in the Mission District, I recommend Dumpling Story. As a lover of XLB and Chinese food, this place is honestly so great! Not a lot of dumpling spots in the Mission so really happy there's something on Valencia. This is opened by the same people as Dumpling Home, but the great thing is they take reservations! XLBs were full of flavor and soup. Also loved than friend pork soup dumplings. Sat down and wanted to get this cold noodle that was displayed outside so I wanted to get that . They say they are sold out, mind you it is the noon so I was confused how it could be sold ? We get the Napa cabbage and pork dumpling (the most common order and SIMPLEST) & they give us this peanut pork dumplings Like omfg imagine we were severely allergic to PEANUTS. Without intending to, I ended up at this place to enjoy my New Year's lunch. I had an enjoyable experience. The staff are friendly, and although it looks small from the outside, it's pretty spacious, clean, and tidy inside. Also, you can see the kitchen in the back and watch your order being prepared. I can say that the dishes' flavors and seasonings are on point, and they have a good selection of vegetarian options at affordable prices. The balance between acidity form the vinegar and spice from the garlic make this place a really enjoyable experience. I can honestly say this is one of my favorite dumpling spots in San Francisco. Ambiance is modern and the music is not too loud. Parking can be a bit difficult especially on the weekends since it is on Valencia, the heart of the mission district. We had no wait on a Monday night and were served very quickly. We ordered the pork xlb and pan friend juicy chicken baos. The xlbs were bigger than usual and the portions were filling. Great to have as the weather gets colder. I will say though that the pork and chicken didn't taste much different, nothing to write home about. The interior decor was simple but stylish, with plants and funky lighting fixtures. For drinks, I got a Iced Jasmine Tea, which was predictably good. We ordered a bunch of items to share - the Beef Xiao Long Bao, Shrimp & Gourd Bao, Juicy Chicken Bao, Fresh Cucumber with Garlic Sauce, and Tomato & Egg Noodles. Everything was fantastic! The Bao were incredible hot and juicy, and the XLB were flavorful with great texture. The Fresh Cucumber was refreshing and great for contrast from the rest of our meal. The interior of the restaurant was modern and also comforting. They had nice music playing in the background to fill the vibe. The flavor of the food was delicious. The baos reminded me of soup baos with how the inside had a hot soup in them. The crispiness of the wontons were amazing. The sauce and ginger they provide really accentuates the meal and I'm not even a big ginger guy. The portions are on the smaller side. You might need to order a couple of entrees or appetizers to get comfortable. Additionally, you can expect to walk out of here for about $40 for a meal for two making this a ($$$) for me. We were on a dumpling crawl on a Friday afternoon, and this ended up being our last stop and easily the top one. The ambience really stood out: tastefully done, clean, and inviting without trying too hard. Service was quick and efficient, which is always appreciated when you're hopping between spots. We tried the Chicken Soup Dumpling (Xi Bao) and the Boiled Shiitake Mushroom & Chicken Dumpling. The dumpling skin here was the thinnest of all the places we tried that day, which immediately set them apart. Personally, I enjoyed the shiitake mushroom & chicken dumpling more, it had a richer, tastier bite. The soup dumplings were very juicy and felt authentic, but the chicken filling itself was quite mild. Perfectly cooked, just lightly seasoned, simple and clean, but a bit more flavor would have taken it to the next level. Overall, a fantastic stop for dumpling lovers and a great way to end a dumpling crawl. Would happily come back. One small thing to note: the dishes on the menu card are tightly placed, so it's easy to mis-mark items.
