My sister and her friend came out to California. Her friend had never been to California, more specifically San Francisco. Having been there many times since childhood, we were happy to show him around. Chinatown is delightful as ever, busy as ever. We decided to try a place we hadn't tried before. When we walked up, we weren't sure it was open, as no one was at the front. We went inside and random man stopped us and asked us if we were being seated yet. We said no, but were apprehensive as he didn't seem like he worked there. He eventually told us he was joking and we walked past him into a mostly empty dining room. Likely, because it was a Tuesday afternoon. However, it was odd because the streets outside were bustling with people. Anyway, it took us a few more moments for someone to finally acknowledge us and we were shown to a table. My sister went to a bathroom that was downstairs, but right behind our table. A couple came in as we were left to figure out the menus. It took us a moment to realize the layers of fabric on the table were menus. However, we noticed they had a QRC code to the menus, as well. The WiFi inside was extremely slow. We could barely even use our phones inside while trying to figure out where we were going to go next. We were brought warm water in a carafe. It made the tap water they served us taste bad after walking and making our way there. Some cold water would have been appreciated. We were able to ask for some when we finally got a server back at our table. As a small gnat or something was flying around our table, I noticed the cups had a dingy, oily appearance to them, which didn't endear me to the restaurant, but I figured places like this usually have good food, as I've experienced before. I was wrong. After we were brought cold water, we ordered. I ordered a Thai iced tea, which did not taste good. It tasted watered down and I think the ice cubes made it taste a bit funky. We ordered a spread of food that included the house rice, crab puffs (which are crab rangoons), two orders of pork soup dumplings, pork boa, a extra large crab, pork, and shrimp boa, Peking duck pot stickers, and the green tea cheesecake. I wish I could say I fully enjoyed anything. The house rice was good and included chick peas, which I'd never had in fried rice before. The rangoons were typical, but nothing special. The boa were undercooked (still kind of doughy on top). The Peking duck pot stickers were pretty good. The large soup dumpling came out last (didn't catch a pic because I was eating), accompanied by a straw. It was pretty tasty, but to be that large, it should have had more filling. They took the tops off our dumplings which made them cool down quicker than we'd like. Now, anyone who knows me, knows I love cheesecake. I also love green tea/matcha. I ordered the green tea cheesecake, which was brought out after we'd finished and had been sitting there for a while. The lady brought the check over, then asked me if I still wanted the cheesecake and wanted to eat it here. I thought that was an odd question to ask since I'd ordered it. But maybe she was asking for a reason, lol. I don't know if it's just this restaurant, but I've never had green tea cheesecake served with a slice of radish, celery, what I think was cilantro, and a tomato. I was beyond confused, but maybe that's normal in China? We were wondering if it was served that way because it was more savory than usual. I took one bite and the taste was okay, but the texture was way off. It was very dry and crumbly. My sister's friend tried it, too, and he said the same thing. We left it uneaten and I was annoyed I paid $10 for that. As much as I hoped it would be a good experience, not just in general, but for someone visiting the area for the first time, it was not up to par for me. One of the few places I've been that I can definitely say I won't be going back to. It's extremely overpriced, as well, for the quality. Our entire meal was over $100... when I could go to a local place and get the same for less and the quality would be better. At the very least, the decor was nice!

The beer in the window helped us decide to eat here and I'm glad it did. They serve wine sake as well. We had a couple Sapporos. They give you a carafe of water with water glasses. The place was pretty busy when we came for dinner but the wait wasn't very long for our party of three. The inside was very cozy and inviting and for as busy as it was you could still have a conversation at normal levels. We had the pork dumplings for an appetizer and they were huge with a crispy bottom and a lovely soft steamed top. The pork was so tender and juicy. If we hadn't already ordered dinner we would've gotten more. My friend had Wagyu cubes with black pepper or black truffle Was amazing! So tender and juicy and the portion is absolutely perfect! My partner had the Cumin Lamb Ribs with Potatoes. Sooooo good. I need to know what those seasonings are.. Everything in this dish had a subtle smoky flavor. The onions on the crispy potatoes life changing. You're welcome! I had the braised Peking duck w/ duck pancakes. It came with veggies on the side and the sauce on the duck was fantastic and I made little rollups with the pancakes 10/10. The restrooms are down stairs so keep that in mind is you require accessible accommodations. Our server was nice and personable. And everything ordered came by pretty quickly. Definitely try this place in Chinatown and take a friend with you!

Nice and busy restaurant at san francisco China town. It was looking for crab noodle and found this. It was full when we arrived for lunch. It is interesting the moment we get in , there are many I believe empty famous and expensive chinese liquor on display. The interior resemble like you are somewhere in China. The menu was not overwhelming and as we came for the crab noodle, we ordered that along with xiao long bao, crispy garlic fish fillet, wonton in chili oil, tan tan noddle, and pan fry dumpling. The order was ready very quickly and presentation is impression especially for the crab noodle. The food are yummy except the crab noodle. Presentation wise it look great but I think something is missing on the gravy. it was a bit bland. It is still ok , I just wish they add more flavor to it. Tan tan noodle is good. Xia long Bao is juicy. Overall it was a good lunch and experience. Will come back again next time to try other dishes especially the giant pork and crab XLB.

Tried a new lunch spot in Chinatown today. The interior decor was nice and the noise level was moderate, but our server was a bit rude when I asked if we'd have to share our four-seater table since it was only us 2. As for the food, it was a bit of a mixed bag; the dumpling sampler was disappointing because they all tasted identical, but the dan dan noodles were super saucy and the General Tso's chicken was a solid mix of sweet and spicy.

I was told about their xlb, so I had to come check it out for myself. I ordered the pan-fried buns, xlb, and crab meat lo mein. Presentation for the dishes were so cute. The crab lo mein and pan-fried buns were definitely the standouts for me, both were packed with flavor. The soup inside the pan-fried buns was especially rich and savory, honestly even better than the broth in the xlb. The bottoms had the perfect crispy crunch, and I loved that the dough wasn't too thick or heavy.

Updating to add that Fusion has become my go-to restaurant in Chinagtown, an impressively high bar for this major tourist attraction in SF. What really sealed the deal for me is that when I brought my friends visiting from the East Coast here mid-week for dinner, we were promptly seated, our order was taken within a reasonable amount of time, and our teapot never ran dry. The service was truly exceptional and stood out to me. Aside from the attentiveness of the staff, the food was better this time around. It might be due to the different items my group ordered this time, but I was especially impressed by fish filets with mustard greens and the classic dry fried string beans. The shrimp house fried rice was also tasty and reminiscent of the flavor of the house fried rice at my favorite neighborhood restaurant in the Sunset. The shengjianbao, which arrived last, were consistent in flavor from what I remembered. All around, I had a great experience here, and even after we paid the check and lingered a while to sip our last cups of tea, the staff didn't rush us. This place is amazing, and I can't wait to return.

It was late when we arrived San Francisco, we had reservations for this place at 9pm. They couldn't find it, and my friend couldn't find the email that had her confirmation.. There were 5 people before us, but the young man still accommodated us. Amber took care of us, the place was cute, had a modern chinese decor. The main part was the food was amazing, tasty and very flavorful. I would totally come back to this place.

Feels average with some above average food! The service was ok, although seating aside from bar table seating was available at the dinner hour on a rainy Saturday. We had 2 delicious dumpling types and average red bean sesame balls. The pork soup dumplings were tasty yet difficult to eat with the liquid. The vegetable dumplings were nice in place of the usual vegetable appetizer. The way the food was displayed made for great presentation and a fun experience

Stopped by on a whim, not a regret to be shared! This place was great on overall vibe, decor and quality of food. I had deadass the best cucumber salad I've ever had in my life there. Was very refreshing and had a unique and perfect flavor. Our other dishes were great as well.

We walked in on a Saturday night and staff were able to accommodate our group of 7. The restaurant is very ornate and has a fun atmosphere. We ordered shrimp dumplings as well as pork and both were delicious. Other standouts were the house chow mein and honey walnut prawns. All perfectly flavorful, crispy and delicious. We also got the picture perfect crab lomein, which was good, but not one of my favorites compared to the other fabulous dishes. In addition to the flavors, the presentation of the dishes were top notch and fun for sharing. There are a lot of options in china town, but this was a really impressive experience. All of us really enjoyed the meal!

My goodness! What an experience!! If you have a big group, I would recommend trying to make a resy or at least put your name on waitlist or something as it is a small-ish place and went on a Tuesday night and t was already filling up. Honestly, someone in your group must get the crab lo mein - ten presentation is amazing and it tastes great and unique. Lovely intimate ambiance with good lighting.

Went for Mother's Day lunch. Sat right away with a reservation. Staff were courteous and friendly. Food came out fast. Although delicious there was more batter than fish. For $38 there should be more fish. Dumplings were solid and tan tan noodle was yummy.

Came here for lunar new year and was pleasantly surprised by the food. While it was my first time coming here, my friends had been here before so we got all the dishes that they enjoyed from the previous trip. Highlights included the crispy garlic Chilean sea bass, mapo tofu, honey walnut prawns, and tea smoked duck Mid-tier were the chicken w/ explosive chili pepper (could have been crispier), spicy wontons w/ chili oil, and shrimp pork chive dumpling. Only thing I was truly disappointed by was the crab meat lomein (thought the noodles were mushy and taste eggy). Get a resy beforehand because the drop in wait time seemed quite long.

Haven't been in person yet so I am speaking solely off of takeout options. So after getting their food about 4828732 times I think it'd pretty long overdue I drop the deets on this little gem. This is our "official" dim sum option for weeknight take out. Personal favorites for me are always going to be the salt/pepper wings, the steamed pork buns, the crystal shrimp dumplings, and the scallion pancakes. My wife loves the soup dumplings, the shu mai. We could eat those dishes every week until we die pretty much, they are reliably good and comforting. Particular shout out on the pork buns though because they are just the absolute best consistency from a filling/bun standpoint. Soft, pillowy, they are glorious. I used to get pork buns from Good Mong Kok Bakery, but tbh, this is about 10x better. The soup dumpling also are quite good, I like the spicy ones but the black truffle is defintely worth it for the occasional splurge. They give you the red vinegar for it too which not all places do. Everything one needs to enjoy. I haven't been in person so I couldn't speak for the service or the location, but if you want a spot that delivers on time and often includes items for free (the pork buns are now free for orders over $50), this is great value and just great food. Chefs kiss.

The staff were friendly and super prompt about clearing empty plates and refilling our tea whenever we signaled it was done, which is always great as the dishes just get on coming! We ordered a bunch of dishes to share, and several really stood out. The spicy tendon was fantastic, shredded paper thin and swimming in a classic spicy sauce. The spicy lamb dumplings were another highlight, with an incredibly thin wrapper and a super flavorful and not gamey at all lamb filling. I also loved the stir fried rice cakes, which were sliced thin enough to avoid that overly chewy texture, and the stir fried noodles Shanghai style were classic and simple in the best way, with big chunks of cabbage and meat and just executed really (the chefs clearly have some serious wok skills!). Not everything we ordered was an absolute knockout as the vegetable dishes could use a bit more flavor and seasoning, but everything overall was good, and the portions across the board were very generous. The desserts were a last-minute decision and I am so glad we went for them. The lava custard buns were fluffy and amazing, with a molten salted egg custard inside, and the sesame balls had a satisfyingly crispy exterior that gave way to a perfectly chewy interior and sweet red bean filling. The value here is also excellent. We left absolutely stuffed and spent around $30 per person, which felt like a great deal for how much food we got and how much we enjoyed it. Highly recommend!

I walked into the restaurant about 45 minutes before closing time at 9:30 PM and several other diners came in after I was seated. The unsettled weather made the people hungry for dumplings. Bao is warm and woody and serene on the inside, a great counterpoint to the bustle of Valencia at every hour. Upon entering there is a large window looking on to the kitchen prep area where culinary experts are often at work constructing the food diners later enjoy on their plates. Tonight a couple of wizards were in the process of making chicken potstickers. Even being vegetarian, just seeing how the dumplings and other items are made is like seeing secrets being shared. I love it and it sets the vibe for the restaurant. My order consisted of the steamed vegetarian buns and sautéed string beans. The buns come out beautifully presented and taste even better: the bun itself is just slightly sweet and that sweetness adds an amazing dimension to the chopped fresh vegetables inside. Can't tell you what any of these veggies are individually and I don't care, they are so good. The baked bbq pork buns are sweet with a decent amount of filling. The deep fried dumpling is plump, juicy, and crunchy. The shrimp and chive dumplings are my favorite. It's full of shrimp with a slightly thicker skin, which I think adds a nice chewiness. The veggie egg rolls were okay. I personally wouldn't order those, even if I was craving them. The spare ribs had a really nice savory flavor from the sauce. The egg tarts were okay. I need to note that these bags are leftovers from the day, so they're not as fresh. But they held up the next day so I was able to stretch 2 meals out of them. I can't comment on service since these bags are only for pick up. But they quickly provide the bags once the window open. And it's a small space, with maybe 2 tables. So this place is probably best for to-go orders. Their 2g2g bags have more variety than their Chinatown location. Not sure how many dim sum options there are in the Mission, but I would go here if I was in the area and craving a shrimp and chive dumpling.
