Had a delicious baked BBQ pork bun here! I wanted to try the pineapple pork bun but it was sold out by the time I made it here in the afternoon. The bun and its filling was hot, fluffy, and tasted very fresh. Cash only, be prepared to wait in line for a bit, and it's a grab and go spot with no seating.
I get this questions from time to time. Where do I go for the best buns in the city? I keep thinking there are so many places to go for buns almost anywhere is SF. I often say it depends on where you are at. I enjoyed almost everywhere I go. Sometimes the list gets more narrow when you are in Chinatown. Although I enjoy the buns of dozens of places in Chinatown in SF I would say there is a place which is definitely my go to places in the city for buns and dim sum. It's located in Stockton ( not the city) street and it's called Good Mongkok Bakery. On a Chinatown stroll in San Francisco I landed on Stockton street. This place has just got more exposure over the years and it's now considered kind of a tourist trap. I still go here because I do enjoy their buns. I like their baked scallion bun which is savory and has good flavor but a bit flakey like some in SF. I then got the shrimp dumplings and they were delicious and soft and similar like some I seen on my social media feed. It is a take out spot which makes a good place to enjoy the bun at a park or anywhere in SF. When you are going on a Chinatown stroll around San Francisco with Don Juan you be doing more than a city "lap" you don't need another guide or "digital map" I will take you the best places not with the social media feed hype also known as slop "crap"or some promoted trendy place in the city "tourist trap" When it comes to finding the best" bun"in SF are the best in the USA "bar none"but there are so many places in SF the journey has just "begun" and Good Mongkok it's a take out place so you can enjoy it with Karl the Fog or when there is some "sun"
I haven't been here in a while. The lines scares me. But this spot has been hyped up by social media... and it was a great disappointment. I stood in line yesterday, for a good 15 mins. Ordered my dim sums, shrimp dumplings, shiu mai, pot stickers, etc. all Dim Sum had no taste, they were bad! How did quality dropped so much? The dim sum used to be pipping hot, no longer the case! What kinda of meat are in the potstickers? Oi vey! Overall, super disappointed. Then on top of it, I ended using the bathroom too many times afterwards. I would not go here if I were you. This was the top rated dim sum in SF. It has no seating, so you pay and go. They serve a wide variety of dim sum that is always tasty and fresh. There are several signs for you to select your favorite items. Lines will fluctuate and move fast. They are constantly cooking dim sum, so they can run out at certain times in the morning. An hour or so later the items may be available. It is best to have your selections and backups before hand so you don't hold up the line.
Was craving to go Dim Sum in Chinatown and landed on Good Mong Kok Bakery and was extremely satisfied. We came on a Monday at around 1pm, and there was about a 15 person line, but by the time we left it almost doubled that. We did come while the World Cup was happening, so I'm assuming a large chunk of that were tourists. We got the Pork Siu Mai, Shrimp Dumpling and Sesame Balls, and they're as good as I've had at restaurants, maybe even better! I definitely recommend the sesame balls, they were the perfect sweet treat! We were also hoping to get pot stickers but were told they were all out. Be patient and be ready to wait. Expect no frills, cheap eats and good food. Luckily, they accept apple pay as a good portion of places in Chinatown are cash only. Will definitely be back if I'm in the area!
It was crazy busy on Saturday around 1:30 PM. Unfortunately, a lot of items were already sold out, but we managed to get the last BBQ pork pineapple bun. It was delicious the crispy topping gave it a different texture compared to a regular BBQ pork bun. The place is small, crowded, but the service was fast, and the line wasn't too long of a wait despite how busy it was. I'll definitely come earlier next time so I can try more of their items!

This place is famous for their dim sum and their prices especially in one of the most expensive city in Cali. The line and following is no joke. We waited in line for about 30 minutes, and the line was considered short. They accept credit card for a small fee (3%) but prefer cash. The ladies serving are typical Chinese customer service, meaning you are a bother to them and why the hell did you come here? And the award of RBF goes to them. We got all their dim sum, har gow, shui mai, steamed bbq bun, baked bbq bun, egg rolls (3) and egg tart. Yes the price is right! The dim sums were humongous compared to restaurants, however, they were extremely salty. We took the food to the nearby park and were not impressed. The best thing was the baked bbq bun, but dim itself was alright. Probably more popular for the affordable price versus taste.
A regular trek to the city was in order where a stop to China Town on the list. We do something unusual when in China Town, we go to several food establishments and purchase a couple of pork buns to compare with others. It's been a fun family tradition for years. Today we visited Good Ming Kok Bakery. The shop is small and crowded with cookware and patrons. The order board is on the wall with corresponding numbers to make it go quicker. It's a walk in, order and walk out establishment. Be prepared...there is a line. The ladies working are not personable and act as if they are doing us a favor. Very stern faced. (Service 1/5) The buns (5/5) were very tasty, light and full of meat. Definitely will keep this one on our radar when the kids come for a visit.
04/18/26 Was in downtown San Francisco for a work event. On our last day, my sis-in-law and I wanted to grab something different to eat for breakfast other than bacon and eggs. We found this place on Yelp and it was about a 10 minute walk from where we were staying. Arrived before 9am and there was already a line formed. It's a tiny place so be prepared to grab and go. And you better know your order before you get to the counter because these boss ladies behind the counter work quick! Here's what I ordered and my rating: 1 baked bbq pork bun - perfectly baked but it lacked filling. I probably got one of those one offs. Taste was on point. Sweet and saucy. Would order again for sure. 1 steamed bbq pork bun - the filling was amazing. Perfect amount and same as above with the taste. The bun itself was slightly more starchy/bready than chewy/gummy, if that makes any sense. Everyone has a preference and I like mine a little chewy. I still would've ordered 3 more of these lol 1 order pork shumai - comes with 3 pieces per order - I don't usually rave about these. They never impressed me much. I'd never reach for more than one. But this one here.... This one has so much flavor. My eyes lit up after I took my first bite. 100/10 for this. Overall, 8/10. The food was delicious and service is what you can expect from a small yet busy and fast-paced establishment. One less star because I got more baked bread than meat filling. *sigh* I guess I gotta go back so I can make sure I get a perfectly filled baked bun.

Service: It's Chinatown, so if you don't speak the language, no worries--they have a simple English menu with numbered items that makes ordering easy for everyone. It's a cool cultural vibe for sure! We had a massive order (feeding a party of 8), but they were still kind, patient, and efficient. Helpful tip: When lining up, be mindful of neighboring businesses. The owner next door did ask the line to shift away from her entrance, which was totally understandable. BONUS: They accept Apple Pay. We will absolutely return on our next trip. If you're visiting the area, we parked at Chinatown Parking for a very reasonable price, and it was an easy walk to all the restaurants we wanted to try. Pro tip: Make an afternoon of it. Grab your food and enjoy it at the local park just south of the restaurant.
No dine in seating but the dim sum is good. Shiu Mai, Shrimp Dumpling, egg tarts and bbq pork buns are made fresh all day. The egg starts are exceptional good, crust is flaky. The egg custard is light and creamy. Everything I try was really good and prices you can't beat.
I've been coming here for a very long time, maybe almost 20 years. This is a SF institution. Everything they have is very good! Everything is cooked/baked the day of sale and it's all to go. There's nowhere for you to eat onsite. Find a park nearby and eat there! Or just eat standing on the sidewalk! Depending on who you get, the service varies. They sometimes yell at you. The woman that helped me today was yelling at me. I think it's not meant to be rude, or so I keep telling myself. Ha ha. I used to work nearby so it was very easy to grab takeout for lunch or to bring home. it's hard to know how much things cost, all you have is the big sign on the wall. We found this place because of the reviews, and I'd say they were right! Get there early if you want egg rolls or pineapple pork buns because they do run out! The line was around the corner when we got there, but service moves fast. It's the perfect little hole-in-the-wall spot you hope to find in Chinatown, and SO cheap. The baked BBQ pork bun was delicious, but the vegetable and pork steamed buns were just as good, maybe even better. The chow mein needed a little extra soy sauce, but they give you packets and for $4, it's a steal. We also tried the pork shumai and honestly, everything was great. I heard this is a great place to get dim sum in China town. It was a bit of a line and busy so it was chaotic to order due to translation and orders being taken at the same time as others. I personally thought the rude staff influenced the experience. While ordering, they completely cut us off and asked the couple behind us what they want instead and let them go in front of us. Yes we were ordering a lot due to us ordering ahead for a larger group of people. We tried ordering 3 two pound containers of noodles and the woman said that's too much so we ordered 2 two pound containers instead. We ate at a bar near by. While eating I found a lot of fatty pieces in all the of the dim sum which was not my favorites although some people prefer it that way. The noodles were pretty good too but very dry, needs siracha or some type of sauce. Wish they had chopsticks too but they only had forks. read more

Got their deep fried meat(number 44). I think in Cantonese it's ham sui gok, but I have no idea, I just know I love it and I ate it a lot as a kid. Also got an egg tart and number 11, which is the soy sauce lo mein. The portion is huge for the soy sauce lo mein. Definitely worth $4! Service was okay, could've been better, but there was only one lady working the register and filling orders and you could definitely tell she was exhausted. There was also a line out the door, so one person handling ordering and filling the orders all day sounds exhausting. The food was good though! No seating, order, pay, and leave. It's a small hole in the wall place. You order and you leave. Typical little Asian market. My nephew loves their green onion buns hence why I was here on this visit. I also ordered the sesame balls which were warm. I enjoyed that. But it was lacking in the red bean filling. Good little gem! read more
Tried to grab an egg tart from another spot, but they were closed for vacation... ended up stumbling on Good Mongkok Bakery after noticing a line of locals out front. Always a good sign. Grabbed this $1.80 egg tart to go and wow. Flaky, buttery crust with that perfectly silky, just-sweet-enough custard. Simple, fresh, and honestly way better than expected for the price. read more

I'd love to say how amazing it was to visit this place after seeing the "snacksensai" recommended it on Instagram... ok, now the dumplings were delicious and so was the pork bao, but I asked for baked not steamed, language was a definite hurdle, but not impossible, what I really didn't appreciate was the attitude of the woman who was serving. She was likely tired, so I'm not going to kill my review cause the food we got was good, the location was busy, and I also didn't appreciate the old lady cutting infront of everyone in line and she did get a smile with her service. Will I be back? Probably, but only if other places are not available. The food was good, but not worth standing in the line for 30 minutes to be served with attitudes and seeing how obvious they were with service to other Asian folks as opposed to brown folks. There are lots of other bakeries on Stockton Blvd that I'd recommend visit before settling on this place. read more
Got some cha siu bao because I needed to try them after hearing over the years about them. Long line, be sure to not block the entire sidewalk or their neighbors' doorway. Get there early because they sell out of things. As for the bao we came there to get, they were good. I can't say they were the best ones ever, but they were solid. The ratio of bun to meat wasn't as great as I wanted, there was a tad bit more bun to meat than I would have liked. The bun itself was good, just a bit too dense/thick. The filling itself was solid. It all added to a good bao, but not the best ever. I'd go back, and give it another shot. I wonder if it was a bad batch I got and I'd like to try more of the offerings. read more

This place has been on my wishlist for so long and finally decided to join the queue when I was in town to run some errands. The line was long but moved rather fast. Their prices are decent and portion are huge compared to most dim sum places. It was a tiny takeout only spot, not a dine in place. They do accept credit card (including Discover thank goodness) for a small 3% fee. I tried a whole bunch of their fried stuff and only realized I forgot to order Dim Sum like Siu Mai etc when I got home lol, will have to go back for those. So far I tried and loved their Sticky Rice with Pork in Bamboo Leaf (wish there's more pork though but still yummy), Sesame Ball (it's almost the size of a fist!!), Chinese Donut, Pork Cookies and Sweet Melon Cake. Pan Fried Scallion Cake on the other hand wasn't for me but it was huge as well. read more
Super popular dim sum place so expect a line for at least 20-30 minutes if you're coming on a weekend. Very small store with no indoor seating so plan ahead of time. The dim sum is very cheap and large in size so you don't have to worry about being hungry. However, the flavor of the dim sum itself is a little questionable. The siu mai and har gow are huge but oddly quite dry especially the har gow. The skin was very thick but each and every one was punctured and was very dry. The rest of the dim sum was pretty standard. read more

Famous for take out dim sum portion with affordable price but unbearable waiting in line with China town street food service and noisy ambiance. Parking is horrible but that is SF China town or anywhere China town. If you have time to kill over chit chat with your friends waiting in line, try them. Anyway, you're in San Francisco read more
found this place via an influencer and yelp q&a section. I guess my expectations were really high going here, with people raving about how good it is online. And once we got there, there was a line so i was like what is the hype about? It must be good if people are lining up for it. But once we started eating, it was a huge disappointment!! :( I only ate through some of them because I was so hungry. I kept the leftovers with me until the end of the day but ended up tossing them because I knew i wasn't gonna enjoy them. It's definitely over-hyped and it's better to just find a sit-down place and i think there are better options available too without the line. read more
Checked out this spot to get some dim sum to go! There was a line out the door, but it moves pretty quickly. We tried their top-rated items like the har gow, baked bbq pork buns, and shui mai. Everything was already steamed or baked, so you just order and pay. There is not place to sit, so you'll have to walk around Chinatown to enjoy these. read more
Always a great meal when you buy dumplings from Good Mong Kok! The hargow is my personal favorite steamed order, and the deep fried meat dumpling is my favorite fried order! Both are definitely 5/5 quality dishes. The scallion bun is ok (3/5 rating) as it can be dry and without an outstanding flavor. The line can either be very long or very short, so I would keep in mind the peak times while planning to visit this place in Chinatown! There is also a small discount if you pay cash so bring that too! There aren't places to sit and eat so everything is to-go. read more

The Food is 5/5, the Service is 1/5. I have mixed feelings about this spot. On one hand, the shrimp dumplings are absolutely amazing--definitely my favorite! The prices are very decent, and they conveniently take both Cash and Apple Pay. If you do need cash, there's a Wells Fargo and Bank of America right nearby. On the other hand, the customer service was pretty disappointing. As a first-timer, I found the staff to be quite rude and unwelcoming. The shop is very tiny and a bit messy, and you definitely need to know exactly what you want before you walk in. They don't seem to have much patience for questions. I'd come back for the food, but I'll make sure to have my order ready to go next time! read more
One of my favorite bakeries in SF Chinatown! The baked goods and dim sum are delicious! There's usually a line for this place, however it moves quickly! Cash preferred or card. There is extra 3% surcharge. My favorite items are: - baked and steamed char siu bao! - pork siu mai. They also have seafood and chicken ones. - shrimp hao gow - porridge is delicious! Comes in small or large size containers Strictly to go places, seating. The place is pretty small. read more

Arrived in the morning around 10 am. We had a variety of items and all were available and hot...straight from the steamers. We did not ask for soy sauce, mustard or chili sauce, but I don't see why they wouldn't have it. Everything is to go so eat…
How long does the line usually take? I want to go back on my lunch break
Weekdays are usually 10-15 minutes. Weekends are longer. Closed on Tuesdays. Some of the best dim sum in SF. Reasonably priced. Parking is very challenging.

Are the hours posted on Yelp accurate? If I come around 7:15am on a Tuesday, will there be dim sum available for purchase?
I got there at 6:45 am and they opened at 7 am and had dim sum and then some ready to go.

Its not Cash Only. They take credit cards also. So you would need to run the debit card as a CC.

They are always open. They were closed only on LNY day.

Is any food here gluten-free?
Yes. The steamed bbq pork and steamed chicken buns. Also the shrimp dumplings and the chive dumplings. All are made with rice flour.
Do any of the dishes contain peanuts or nuts? I'm very allergic. More specifically the lo mai gai.
Yes, some of the dumplings contain nuts.
Which items are vegetarian or atleast non pork!?
I don't have a full list, but some items should be pineapple buns, scallion cakes, sesame balls, rice cakes, and any other sweet bun
We have family coming into town and would love to try your restaurant on a Sunday. Would it be possible to get a table for 9 or is it just to go food?
