Had the pleasure of visiting Dumpling time yesterday for my husbands & I mini date of the week. Thankfully we work close by so walking to the restaurant was a breeze. Love that this location is right next to the new chase center gives you great views while eating. We had never been to this restaurant and honestly I haven't had dim sum in a really long time. Thankfully our waiter Nicholas was fantastic. I asked so many questions on recommendations on what to order. He suggested multiple items on the menu and we ended up ordering all of his recommendations. They did absolutely not disappoint. We ordered; Chili pork dumplings Wagyu fried rice Sea food gyoza Chat-siu Bao Seared pork buns to go. Every single item we had off the menu was delicious. The wagyu steak was cooked perfect medium rare. Yes not a lot of steak on it but acceptable for the price. The chili dumplings were spicy but not overly spicy. The bbq pork buns were so good. Super soft and hot and tasty. They are not skimpy on the fillings. What stole the show for the evening was the sea food gyoza! Man oh man were those delicious that I even considered ordering a second order. They had a whole shrimp inside and the sauce that was placed with them paired so perfectly. I legit cannot say one bad thing about our food experience here. Unfortunately since we don't usually dine in the city we were unaware that if we don't have our vaccinations cards with us we would not be able to dine inside. Not to worry since it was a nice day out and the wind hadn't picked up too much that we decided to stay and eat outside in the dinning area. The waiters and servers were all amazing. The dumplings here are very good; however a bit on the higher end of the price scale. My husband and I ordered a couple dumplings to try out and we loved some and felt that maybe a dish or two could have been left out. We ordered the Pork XLB and while that was delicious, the dumpling stuck to the container that all the soup ended up spilling and wasting away. We ordered the siu mai which tasted like other siu mai, so we probably won't order that next time. Now, the lamb dumpling was very delicious and we would definitely order that again. It was a very unique dumpling that other places don't serve. Service here was very good and I liked that they were all very attentive to our table/needs. They always checked in to make sure we were happy with our order and whether we got our order. Some of the food was okay, and some was awful. The biggest thing going for this place is its location - it's right outside Chase Center so it's super easy to grab some food right before a Warriors game or a concert. I had no issues with the service, but the quality of the food they serve for the prices they charge is kind of atrocious. For the most part, I had no issues with the dim sum dishes like the siu mai, har gow, XLB, Tom Yum XLB. Those were all either good, or on par with other restaurants, albeit overpriced. The dishes I had issue with were their mains (ie. noodles/rice), which were incredibly small portioned for the high price, and just simply not good. The one dish that juts out at me was the Wagyu fried rice. First off, let's not lie to ourselves here - that beef you served me was NOT wagyu. So please don't say it is when it's on the menu. Secondly, you could at least prepare the dish so it has the illusion of being wagyu - soft, tender, and melt in your mouth beef. I would have been fine - even happy - with that, but the beef you served was overcooked, and (I'm not even joking when I say this - I wish I was...) it was like chewing through rubber. It was one of the toughest and hardest pieces of meat I've ever had to chew. It was not only not wagyu, but it was also horrendously cooked. Awful. The vegetables like the green beans were actually quite good, but that fried rice really ruined the experience. The absolute worst quality food I've ever ordered for take out (was in a bind). The shrimp inside the har gow did not have its shell removed so I crunched into each one only to spit a tail or entire shrimp out. The string beans had not been cut or prepared, were so hard that I couldn't properly chew it and also had to spit it out (the worst part was it tasted like bleach or some type of cleaning agent). In my opion, the thrive city location is definitely a lot sleeker looking and does not get as busy as the original location. However, their menu does not include everything the original location offers so keep that in mind if this is your first time trying Dumpling Time in general! We ordered the pork XLB, green tea & milk buns, egg yolk buns, shrimp har gow, chili pork dumpling, beijing noodles, and the tom tum XLB. The dessert buns and XLB are both a must try at dumpling time! But I think our meal would have been fine without the beijing noodles, not much flavor or excitement to them. We came here on Wednesday October 20th prior to the Dan + Shay concert at the Chase Center in SF. There was a wait which shouldn't be shocking considering there was an event there at Chase that night. There's 2 options, this place, or Stu-Gott's Roadside Burgers. We still got seat pretty quickly. We went in and got a 2 seater table where you have 1 on bench & 1 chair seat. They get a good amount of people in here as the tables were close together. You could hear conversations between both tables on each side of you which I wasn't a huge fan of. The food & pricing however were excellent, they also had a few unique options on the menu for sure. I prefer eating at Dumpling Time before a Warriors game. Go way before game time so you don't have to wait too long for a table. We arrived 2 hours before game and there was a line for a table but no line to eat at the bar. Food arrives quickly after you order. We've been wanting to try this place since it opened up. We decided to go on a Saturday after running some errands. Service: It wasn't clear where we meet the host because there was a rope outside with a little bar. So we walked through the door to go inside. Someone greeted us and asked how many people in our party. Just two of us. The host didn't really look at us in the eye though when she greeted us so that didn't feel welcoming. We chose to sit inside. But we were placed in a cramped spot with a table of four split into two. We should've sat outside inside. We got water from one person, menus by another. We didn't know who our waiter/waitress was. We finally got approached by a waitress. Placed our order and waited. We got served by multiple people that we didn't know who was really helping us. They all seemed rushed and moody. We didn't get a friendly vibe here. It felt like they were trying to just get people in, serve, have you pay, and on to the next person. Food: We ordered 1 of the following to try: Crispy vegetable spring rolls Shrimp and pork siu mai Maine lobster siu mai Seared bbq pork bao Har gow Seafood gyoza Wagyu beef gyoza The food came out one by one with pauses in between. We didn't get it all right away. It was like here's the first dish. Eat. Wait. Next dish. Not sure if that's what they intended to do. Har gow, Seared bbq pork bao, and seafood gyoza were the best dishes. The har gow was maybe one of the best we've had compared to other places in SF. It had really good flavor. The seared bbq pork bao was a petite size but had so much flavor and it wasn't dry! It was good so definitely try it. The seafood gyoza was packed with flavor and seafood. It was perfectly crisp and not oily. The crispy vegetable spring rolls were alright. They were plain, crispy, and not greasy. If you like veggies and like simple flavors, then try this otherwise if you're a meat loving spring roll person, probably skip on this. The shrimp and pork siu mai was good but we've had better in other dumpling places. The upside was that it was $9.50 compared to $17 for the Maine lobster siu mai, which lacked flavor. It was underwhelming and it left us wanting more flavor. I didn't taste the lobster really or the white truffle oil. For the price of the lobster siu mai, just get two orders of the regular siu mai. The wagyu beef gyoza was so disappointing. We expected more out of this one. It lacked seasoning all the way. It tasted incredibly bland. The beef tasted like imitation beef and had a weird stale after taste. Was it crispy? Yes but no flavor whatsoever. I would say skip on this and get the regular gyozas or something else on the menu. It's not worth it. Ambiance: The place is loud but not too loud that you're shouting at each other. It is cramped so if you want your personal bubble not to be popped, maybe sit outside or go when right when opens and definitely not on a game night. The bathrooms were incredible disgusting. All the stalls had toilet paper and left over things if you know what I mean. The sink is outside and even that was dirty. It was really gross to think that the bathroom is this dirty and gross. Please clean the restrooms. At the end, we weren't given an itemized bill. We were just told by another random new waitress what our total was. We got our itemized bill AFTER paying which is something we didn't like. You should show your customers what they're paying for first. We probably wouldn't come back to this place. First off , Omg the place is so nice! And we were able to be seated immediately. They have patio seating but sadly no heat lamps so dress warm if you plan to sit outside in cold weather! The menu items are overpriced as expected of guests visiting the famous SF Warriors' eating hub. Sadly the rice was lacking flavor. -|Soupy shrimp dumpling|- This dumpling surely lives up to its name as being "soupy". I would say this was my second favorite item. -|Lamb Dumpling with chili peppers|- This was my first experience eating lamb in a dumpling form and was blown away with the perfect flavor! I usually do not eat spicy foods but enjoyed this dish soooo much! We got a bowl of dry noodles (the texture was meh) with tiny bits of meat and very little flavor. The wagyu beef gyoza was decent, but again, the filling texture was almost like sliced beef, and chewy. Right now, this is the place to eat at, especially if you hate crowds. With social distancing, the Saturday was a bit slow which makes for a great dining experience in SF if you want space, parking close by and one on one service. Once things pick up, this place will be lines out the door so I strongly recommend you check this place out. This is just like the other Dumpling time in SF on Division but much more spacious and brand new. This place is adjacent to the Chase Center and we even had a view of the gorgeous Warriors girls practicing one of their dances just outside!! For the food, it's a little pricey but worth it. The XLB's were excellent as always. The shrimp toast is good but I recommend that you do not order it unless sharing with 3 other people as it comes with eight pieces and two are enough, otherwise it is too filling. My favorite dish was the Wagyu fried rice. Just very good texture & flavor. For a final dish, try the cucumbers w/sesame dressing and maybe also an order of any of the shu-mais which are excellent. Obviously the location is ideal when you're going to the Warriors game or just hanging out in Thrive City. Been to the other location so we were excited to see this open here. When we went there wasn't a game so there was plenty of seating during lunchtime on a weekend. Service was attentive and quick. We ordered a lot of food... way more than we needed. I have mixed feelings about this establishment. To put it simply, the experience was pleasant but with a hefty price tag. The highlights of this restaurant include decent service, a clean and modern environment, and aesthetically welcoming food. The food is okay, but didn't particularly stand out to me given the price point. That said, there are certainly items I would be hesitant to order again such as the BBQ Pork Baos which are pricey. The regular XLBs were average, but the Tom Yum XLBs were unique and enjoyable. For dinner we ordered Xlb Tom yum, cha sui pork ribs, Beijing noodles, seafood gyoza, and the bun trio. Also we tried their new drink Toki highball. Their Tom yum Xlb were and always delicious. The seafood gyoza was yummy. It had the right amount of crips, seafood and the wrapping of the gyoza was perfect. The Beijing noodles and cha sui pork ribs I was disappointed. The noodles were bland. I had to add their house made garlic chili oil and left over soy sauce from the gyoza to enhance the flavor. The cha sui was dry and way too sticky. Every bite you had to clean your teeth. Lol I would pass on those two. The trio of buns were good. My favorite out of the three was the egg custard bun. My cocktail (toki highball) was lacking the whiskey. It was mostly carbonated soda. I've been to this Thrive City location almost 10 times . I've also been to their first location (Design District) 5 times. The menus of Design and Thrive aren't exactly the same. Thrive has sticky ribs while Design doesn't. Design has KING DUM (the giant XLB with the straw), sesame balls, mango pudding while Thrive doesn't. The customer service I've received at Design has always been consistent and great. However, the customer service I received at Thrive has been dwindling down. I have been dining at Thrive lately because of the events I am attending and the servers seem so short staffed on these event days. My most recent visit was at the Tree Lighting. The hostess was also a server and cleaning tables. I remember on Halloween too they seemed soo short staffed. The host/server was obviously so over the night , no smiles, motioned like a robot. Places your order on the ipad like you are being rushed and never even asked for drinks and walked away. The wait for a table was already long on this type of event day that I didn't even want to bother and ask for drinks or dessert. I think I'm done visiting this Thrive location for awhile. But alas, COVID-19 hit, and Thrive City is a relative ghost town. As I was walking back home from the newly opened Crane Cove Park, I took notice that this spot was accepting takeout orders. Chances are you're here because you're waiting for a Warrior's game or some type of concert so you're already parked and ready to eat. GREAT CHOICE! The food was all great and perfect for the cold SF nighttime weather! We recently visited the OG location as well as this location in Thrive City and are happy to report that the Thrive City location has the same great quality and flavors as the original. The service was super fast and we left super satisfied. They even gave us an xlb on the house when it was incorrectly delivered to our table! An automatic 6% "SF mandated" surcharge deserves an automatic 1 star. It is not mandated by SF that the patron pay this. The business is forcing this. Just a cheap tactic to get a customer to pay 26% more for his meal including tips. Sure, I want the employees taken care of, but by the business hiring them. Else, shouldn't the business also charge the patron for the employee's minimum hourly wage as well? read more

Came here on a Friday night and it was not a good experience. Was greeted by a hostess that was eating and unprofessional. Server came off as someone that just wanted to clock out. Ordered 2 drinks and 2 appetizers and ran up a $60 bill. Never again. read more

Dumpling Time's second Dumpling Time in Thrive city suffers from the same problems that the original in the Design District suffers, but also costing 5-10% more with less soul and heart than the original. I would say my feelings on this Dumpling Time is the same as the first: "Overall, my impression of the place is that it's largely unimpressive, trying to "reinvent" and "modernize" the dumpling." While not too bad if you're looking to get dinner outside the Chase Center before a game or concert, it's generally not impressive. read more

Located right by chase center. I love how this place is decorated. A lot of cute neon signs and modern vibes. Great food and service. The chili dumplings and Beijing noodles were the best. I loved the chili oil sauce. The cucumber salad was refreshing, but kind of sour. Overall, nice food spot and would recommend. read more

Ordered from here for our office for CNY and they were able to get our food ready and delivered in about 30 minutes! They try to be innovative with the traditional Chinese dumplings, but be prepared to pay a premium for it. Chili pork dumplings (8): Nice hearty dumpling filled with pork and cabbage. Just a hint of spiciness that lingers with each bite. Shrimp toast: One of their most unique items on their menu. Essentially, it's a Youtiao, aka Chinese Donut, with shrimp and spicy mayo. It's just an explosion of umami flavors. I had to take one point off as the youtiao was soft by the time it was delivered, but still delicious. Highly recommend eating right when it's hot so you get it to enjoy it when it's nice & crispy. I think Dumpling Time does a good job appealing to the mass and will satisfy even Traditional Dumpling Loyalists. Personally, I'd prefer going to a low-key Chinese diner for dumplings and save a few $$. However, their shrimp toast is great and is something I would order again and again! read more

Dumpling Time never disappoints! We got the shrimp toast, XLB, and chili dumplings. Just left Ong you know that the chili dumplings are 麻辣 (numbing spicy) so if you don't like that then don't order this dish. I loved everything we tried, and I'm planning on getting the Tom Yum soup dumplings and some gyoza on my next visit :-) read more

Went in two hours before Queen's concert, waited in line for a bit but not for ridiculously long! The waitress was super attentive, frequently checking in with us to see which dishes were still missing. Loved the shrimp toast and the lamb dumplings (flavorful and creative), not so much the crispy vegetable rolls and the trio of buns. Came here a while back with my mom and aunt. Tried out the different buns. I liked the taro buns, not too sweet. We also ordered the shrimp har gow (not pictured) and I liked that better than the savory buns. Also burned my tongue because I didn't wait for it to cool down. I had the shrimp cake stir fry rice noodles. It was different but good. My mom ordered the American wagyu fried rice (not pictured) and that was also good. Saw people ordering the shrimp cake so we also ordered it. The shrimp cake was different. All in all, nice place. Our server was dope too. read more

Gave this place a try with a friend since I live nearby. Not usually really into Asian fusion kind of food and there's clearly a reason. Food here is overpriced probably because rent is at the Chase Center, the everything we ordered was just meh flavor wise. We ordered Xiao Long Bao Dumplings (3/5), the Sweet Bao Trio (2/5), and Shrimp Garlic Noodles (3/5). I'd say the bao trio is the most experimental thing we ordered because the other two were just pretty straightforward dishes, and we couldn't quite figure out which bao was which based on their flavor because there wasn't much to work with. The place looks like it could be a lively place to come by before a game, but even though there was one on a Wednesday night, there weren't many people eating here. read more

I was seated right away on a Saturday around 11:45. We got shrimp toast, pork XLB, shrimp garlic noodles, and har gow. Shrimp toast is always a 10/10. The har gow was also good, and the green sauce with it is really unique - I've never had a cilantro sauce with dumplings before. Pork XLB was pretty good (8/10). Shrimp noodles were pretty underwhelming - the noodles were a bit soft/squishy and the flavor was lacking. read more

The atmosphere and their delicious food makes this restaurant one of my favorites in San Francisco. We have only heard great reviews about Dumpling Time so we decided to make a visit. When I say don't walk, run to this place do it ASAP. We ordered the Shrimp and Pork Siu Mai, American Wagyu Fried Rice, Shrimp Garlic Noodles, Lobster Siu Mai and Pork XLB. The fried rice was cooked fantastically and paired excellent with the wagyu. The Siu-Mai's were stuffed with flavors that made me want to order more before my wife told me no! The shrimp garlic noodles are a must get and a recommendation from our waiter. Everyone their was so friendly and I can't imagine this place when the Warriors are playing. I wish we had this restaurant in STL. We will come back here every time we visit SF! read more
