    xiao long bao

Spacious, neighborhood dumpling restaurant with excellent service and yummy Chinese food. I got the seaweed salad, wagyu dumplings and xiao long bao. The seaweed salad had the perfect amount of sesame oil and crunchiness- super satisfying to eat. I loved the wagyu dumplings! The meat was fantastic and the dumplings were fresh, steamy and chewy. The xiao long bao stole the show- the broth was savory and the meat filling was compacted with flavor.

The place has a good amount of seating and is fairly clean. The service was also very friendly and attentive. However the food was a miss. There are so many better dumpling spots in SF with better tasting and more value dishes. The portions were smaller for what you pay for and the flavors were all over the place. We were in intrigued by the mapo tofu dumplings but it was not executed well. The noodles were also lacked flavor. Overall, pretty disappointed. Not worth trying, there are so many better dumpling places in the city.

Great dumpling place! Loved everything we ordered. Quite a few unique options like tom yum xioa kong bao and mini potstickers. The har gao were huge and delish!

The sad irony about being a solitary diner having dim sum on your own is that you can't have much variety. Maybe like one basket. Seems lonely, doesn't it? It's like reading the cooking directions for Soup for One. "Heat it up. Don't heat it up. Who cares? You live alone." That was kinda how I felt randomly walking into this corner spot in the Lower Haight. The menu had a page and a half of dim sum choices. None of them were too adventurous. Presented in sets of eight, six, and four. I decided to go for the $9 Classic Siu Mai because it represented a steamer basket of four stuffed with minced pork, shiitake mushrooms, and shrimp (photo: https://yelp.to/AlATEH7R7q). Pretty yummy since I hadn't had any sort of dumplings since my late fall trip to Hong Kong. Of course that wasn't enough for my ample appetite. You knew it. I knew it. We all knew it. So I ordered the $13 Beef Fried Rice (photo: https://yelp.to/PACsSfG3Wk). Simple. Good. Packed with homestyle flavor with beef, carrot, peas, carrots, corn, green onion, egg, and lettuce. Dare I say it was more satisfying than the siu mai. I'd definitely order it again. There were plenty other temptations, some predictable (Kung Pao Chicken), others less expected (Korean BBQ Beef Ribs). FOOD - 4 stars...dim sum for one is possible, but the beef fried rice was the scene stealer AMBIANCE - 4 stars...more room than you'd expect SERVICE - 4 stars...pretty quick TOTAL - 4 stars...not just a dumpling house RELATED - Exploring the Haight? My party of 3 went on a Sunday afternoon around 1:30pm and were seated immediately! There seemed plenty of space, and they also have an upstairs dining area. The service was friendly and attentive. The vibe is friendly and casual. The combination XLB was tasty! I think my favorite was the tom yum. I thought the pan friend dumpling had a nice crunch. The Dan Dan noodles were super chewy.

i came in around 1pm to order a takeout order & it was ready within 10-15 minutes! - chicken dumpling: has corn in it which adds a nice texture variety without being excessively "crunchy" - sichuan spicy dumpling: same concept/dish as "chili wontons" and is just as good!! note that it does have peanuts though - three flavor dumpling: i loved that in each dumpling you actually got a bite of shrimp in each one. cooked to perfection. this one was my favorite! overall, i loved how each dumpling had a lot of filling inside so you got what you were paying for. the sauces were also a good additional note of flavor to have.

Solid neighborhood dumpling spot with efficient staff The dumplings and pot stickers were tasty. The noodles were average so I wouldn't go out of my way to order again (not much meat or flavor) Mini potstickers had great flavor, juicy interior with the pan fried bottoms. Pork dumplings were classic and had nice texture too. Went well with the house chili sauce

Came here with a friend and had a reservation and got seated immediately. Good: - The ordering experience was all digital so it was easy to place and order and get the food to your table - I liked the beef noodle soup a lot, the noodles were very chewy and also the flavor of the soup was good and not too salty - The XLB assorted variety was so fun - I liked each one including the spicy one, it wasn't too spicy - The mapo tofu was a surprise hit! I liked how we paired it with rice and how savory it was. - The inside is like a nightclub mixed with a casual diner, it's pretty unique Bad: - Hard to get the servers to come to you, we had to flag them each time to get us something Overall this was a fun casual Chinese dimsum experience, but overall felt like I wouldn't come again since it's pretty far from my stomping grounds and a bit of a journey and trek to get normal food.

We finally got to try his dumpling restaurant on Saturday. I was surprise to find it empty during lunch. There were another couple at a table across the room and the upstairs dining area was closed. We were welcomed in and sat down right away. What we ordered: -Cucumber Salad - very fresh, tasty and love that sesame flavor. -Stir fried green beans - the flavors were good, but I would have loved it even better if it was cooked more and a little charred. It was a little undercooked. -Shrimp Toast - love a good shrimp toast on a doughnut. It was satisfying, but a little too rich. -Mushroom and Fish Dumpling - we got it boiled and wow, we loved it. It was tasty and chewy, not fishy at all. Overall experience was great. Staff were attentive, the restaurant was clean, but maybe next time try not to spray those cleaners near people while they're eating. Would love to come back and try the rest of the items menu and dumplings.

veggie potstickers, thai tom yum xlb, and crystal shrimp dumpling

Cosy date night spot or friend catchup - on a midweek cold sf wintery evening we were able to get a seat easily- sat at the balcony area upstairs as it was a little busy and loud downstairs. Casual spot- plenty of seating in a big open spot- open kitchen were they make the dumplings from scratch also (we could see the happenings from our spot at the balcony area) The order service is ordered through phone via barcode and the food comes to your table. Dumplings are always a hit here- we got the veggie potstickers, thai tom yum xlb, and crystal shrimp dumpling, as well as the vegetable egg fried rice. All dishes are great for sharing, quick service once ordered. My favorites were the thai tom yum and crystal shrimp- the fried rice was surprisingly good too for something simple- a good amount of vegetables in it and good portion size. All dumplings filled to brim- not skimpy of fillings. A good weeknight spot to get some warm comforting food. Service was a little less personal- they seemed very busy so don't check in on the table that often, but not really complaining about it- meant no disruptions during our meal and let us sit and chat at the table for a few hours. Good dumplings and a variety on the menu for a good price.

2.5/5 A cute place for more American-style Chinese food! They surprisingly have a lot of space with a 2nd level. Service was nice as well and attentive. My friend and I came on a Wednesday night around 7PM and got seated upstairs immediately. We had the entire 2nd level to ourselves and were pretty happy about it since downstairs had the door open + it was a chilly SF night. You can order via their site. We got: Pan Fried Wagyu Dumplings (2/5) - The wrapping was way too much and there were bits that were too hard. Combination XLB (Original 3/5, Spicy 2/5, Tom Yum 1.5/5) - I was intrigued by the different colored XLBs. The original was best tasting but still objectively, a mid XLB. For the Spicy and Tom Yum, the flavor was just off like the Tom Yum did not taste like Tom Yum at all and there was no spiciness in the Spicy XLBs. SiChuan Dan Dan Noodles (3/5) - The best thing that we got! I really enjoyed the noodles itself because some places just give spaghetti but the actual flavor was ok. For sauces, the options were vinegar, soy sauce, and chili oil which is pretty standard and shouldn't be hard to mess up but it just didn't hit like the flavors of each thing just didn't match up with the dumplings. Overall, flavor was lacking for me and I would not come back.

THE BIG: Dumpling Union but now in the Lower Haight area of SF! 2 story place, although no one eats upstairs with cutesy decor. Street parking available. THE BLACK AND WHITE: We at here with a couple of friends who we were staying with in SF. The line wasn't bad and managed to snag a booth table. For food, we got the combination xiao long bao, sichuan dan dan noodles, mapo tofu dumplings, string beans, and mini potstickers. The XLBs were great, however the mapo tofu dumplings didn't hit. The tofu was very stringy and was a weird mouth feel. The mini pot stickers were great. Reminded me of meatballs but with starch. We washed it all down with a bottle of soju which was yogurt flavor yumm. THE FINAL BAMBOO: Overall the damage done was around $98 for everything. Food came out fast and is a nice addition to the Lower Haight area of SF!

It was chewy and tasted uncooked. I began to lose my appetite... Sesame Chicken 0/5 - it was all batter, little to NO meat inside whatsoever. Saucy but it was very clumpy. I was so disappointed with this one. It was literally just eating fried batter in sesame sauce with sesame seeds thrown on top. Braised String Beans - 2.5/5. They were fine, flavored enough with the grilled onions and garlic other than that, not impressive at all. I had really high hopes for this place/order. I had been craving Chinese food for so long and was going to order from my typical place but decided to give this one a try. I definitely should have stuck to what I know would have hit the spot. The siu mai was fairly big and I liked that the order came with a bunch of sauces- chili oil, soy sauce, and a hot sauce. As a big sauce fan, I appreciated the selection! I'll be back to try most of their selection.

I've only ordered dim sum from here through Too Good to Go (2g2g). Like their Chinatown location,…read moreI find the dim sum to be oily. But overall, it's good. The baked bbq pork buns are sweet with a decent amount of filling. The deep fried dumpling is plump, juicy, and crunchy. The shrimp and chive dumplings are my favorite. It's full of shrimp with a slightly thicker skin, which I think adds a nice chewiness. The veggie egg rolls were okay. I personally wouldn't order those, even if I was craving them. The spare ribs had a really nice savory flavor from the sauce. The egg tarts were okay. I need to note that these bags are leftovers from the day, so they're not as fresh. But they held up the next day so I was able to stretch 2 meals out of them. I can't comment on service since these bags are only for pick up. But they quickly provide the bags once the window open. And it's a small space, with maybe 2 tables. So this place is probably best for to-go orders. Their 2g2g bags have more variety than their Chinatown location. Not sure how many dim sum options there are in the Mission, but I would go here if I was in the area and craving a shrimp and chive dumpling.
