Love this local Korean spot close by to me. Very consistent in the food quality. Pretty spacious and does not get too loud. I love to order the yukgaejang when I come here. The stew has glass noodles and also comes with bowl of signature purple rice. So delicious and a great deal. And of course there are fresh tasting banchan. I've asked for banchan refills before and the staff is friendly and will provide it free of charge. I always leave happy and full. Great food! We had the sizzling stone bibimbap and the "iron works" and enjoyed it all. I would recommend the spicy pork for flavor (it's not super spicy, don't worry). Purple Rice has been one of my favorite restaurants for delivery on DoorDash and Uber Eats. My favorite item is the Bibimbap with Spicy Pork and Purple Rice, which they call "The Works" ($21). (Don't bother paying $2 extra for the Sizzling works if you're getting delivery, it's certainly not sizzling by the time it arrives. It's filled with vegetables and is relatively healthy. They include a small serving of banchan (Korean appetizers like kimchi and pickled daikon), and the entire set is packaged nicely in a purpose-made paper bowl with divider between rice/meat/egg and the vegetables and sauce. Delivery can be slow and often misses the DoorDash estimate, so I recommend ordering earlier than expected. (I've never eaten inside, so can't comment on service or ambience.) read more

I order Purple Rice via DoorDash regularly, but I have never visited in person. Whenever I'm craving Korean and something hearty/filling/healthy, this is my go-to delivery spot. I also appreciate how their food is always well-packaged and arrives piping hot. My go-to orders (each order comes with a small container of banchan): 1. "The Works" (aka bibimbap) with purple rice and thinly sliced beef (bulgogi). It comes with 10 types of vegetables and a sunny-side up egg, all made with super fresh ingredients. Their beef also deserves five stars for being well-marinated, tasty, AND clean. I tried ordering the "Sizzling Works" once (via DoorDash delivery), but honestly couldn't tell much of a difference between the two since the rice wasn't particularly crispy. You might have a different experience dining in since it's served in a hot stone bowl. 2. Veggie Soft Tofu Soup. I consider myself to have moderate spice tolerance, and I always order this mild. This always hits the spot on a chilly day in SF. This soup is so satisfying that I can't help myself but gobble up the whole tub in one sitting every time. 3. Kimchi Stew. As a non-Korean, to me this soup base tastes fairly similar to the Veggie Soft Tofu Soup, just with a stronger kimchi taste and less tofu, but with more other ingredients (e.g., glass noodles, zucchini, and rice cakes). When I want to switch things up a bit, I order this instead of the Veggie Soft Tofu Soup. The only item that I probably wouldn't order again is the "Kimchi Iron Works" with purple rice. To be fair, there's nothing at all wrong with this dish. It's just that if you're expecting a classic kimchi fried rice with all its salty/oily goodness, this is going to taste like a super duper healthy version. And if I'm feeling healthy, I'd rather go for "The Works" than this. read more
