This restaurant served a variety of food. It even had a salad. It has fried food, Italian dishes, soup, sandwiches, and a list goes on. I don't know how often they get new people entry this establishment. We walked in and the whole place seems to stop and looked. It appeared just one person was handling all aspects of the restaurant she was our hostess. She was our server and our cashier. For what she handled , she did an amazing job. But people did have to wait. The restaurant looked its age. But it certainly came across as family dining. They just do each other and we were welcome as well. A very laid back dinning experience. Don't go if you're in a rush. We couldn't resist the seafood plates. Stuffed flounder was ok, the fried flounder and shrimp was mushy. However, the price was very good. We kinda paid for what we got. Next time I would get the country cooking. The service was great. Prices great as well. Excellent prices, food srved hot and fresh. Great prices, average meal under $10, not including drink ( I hate paying over $2 for a glass of iced tea which cost less than $0.04 to make). The meal I had what's 6 chicken strips fried okra macaroni and cheese and fried zucchini with enough left over to take home because the serving size was so large. Service well what can I say if you see the previous reviews I agree the girls are not very friendly and really just don't seem to want to be there which is a shame because this is a great local restaurant for the Duncan area. read more

A special little place located in Duncan, SC just a little ways off of I-85. A glorified diner with real home country cooking is right up my alley. Ordered a 4-piece chicken dinner with 3 sides and some cobbler and paid $14.00. The food was the bomb! I will be going again. Funny side note: I was going to Game Time BBQ when traffic was backed up so bad it forced me to Duncan Family Restaurant. I'm really glad it did. We've eaten here many times. I feel the quality of the food has gone way down. Perhaps they got a new chef. I had fried chicken. It was cooked well but lacked flavor. My wife had a chicken gyro. She also said the chicken lacked flavor. Also the tzatziki sauce was awful. This restaurant I thought was owned by a Greek family. You would think they would know how to make tzatziki. We ate at this restaurant 3 times already. Service is always pleasant and place is favored by locals. First time for lunch we had the fisherman's platter with perfectly cooked fish, shrimps, baked potato and a side dish. The lasagna was good, nice sauce, not bad considering it is not an Italian restaurant. Our second time we had dinner. Ordered the roast Turkey with stuffing and mashed potatoes. The Turkey had the texture of a reconstituted cold cut and sliced like such. The roast beef was not good, covered in lots of salty gravy with a weird consistency not enjoyable. We thought we were just unlucky on our last visit and returned for breakfast. The pancakes were a bit elastic, not fluffy, the bacon was very crunchy deep fried, even after I asked waiter that I would order bacon only if it was not deep fried. I was looking for a mom and pop type place for breakfast while staying in my hotel. No crowd, but a friendly welcome. Pretty basic breakfast fare here, but that's what I was after. I appreciated they had real homefries. While somewhat bland, they weren't previously frozen and cubed from a bag. A little disappointed they didn't offer Heinz ketchup, but hey....I wanted a hot cooked breakfast and that's what I got...and at a reasonable price. read more

I have driven by this place several times as it is only about 20 minutes from my residence. I went there for lunch and as I entered the establishment, I could tell it was very outdated. The woman that approached us at the door didn't seem very friendly but wasn't rude either. Our waitress was just OK she did make a suggestion to my coworker as to what she would suggest to eat for lunch there. They claim to have a salad bar however that too is outdated and I personally would not use it. There was nothing special about the food at all it tasted like all frozen food cooked to order. It's unfortunate as it is not that far from my house but I will not be returning to this place. Lastly cleanliness was not very good. As I approached our table I could see crumbs on the seat and crumbs and water stains on the table. Also the bathroom had a foul smell musty and was not very clean. read more

Super awkward setting. We were the only ones In there for at least 10 min. No music playing. Waitress was strange and didn't know how to talk to people. I got a size salad and it was full of water. Great place. I have eaten here twice in two years while passing through town. The menu is large, portions large, and prices are great. Arrived around 11:30 and there were only a few people there at the time, although it pretty busy when we left an hour later. We were seated and drink orders were taken. We then ordered. We never saw our server again. Someone else brought out our food and left the bill then. We had to ask three times for a drink refill. We never received any bread while the table beside us got copious amounts. When we finished the meal, my husband grew weary of waiting to ask anyone passing for boxes and cups, and got up, went to the back and got them himself. No one else ever came. I finally stopped another waitress and asked for the manager. Ten minutes later I asked for the manager again. A lady in a soiled apron came over and was extremely rude to us. I I asked for consideration on the bill and she finally gave us $2 off, a $1 a piece. The food was only edible and not much more. read more

I'd been to this restaurant in the past but never written a review of this place. Considering that I'm southern, I know a little about southern cuisine. I had the pleasure of going there yesterday afternoon. The service was very friendly and welcoming. Our waitress was very nice and helpful. I had the chicken liver plate with pinto beans, yam soufflé, rice and gravy. I was astonished by how well the chicken livers were cooked. They were outstanding. My only problem would be that the pinto beans weren't what I expected. They had a vinegary taste to them. Other than that, my experience at this restaurant was very pleasing. The salad bar, while not huge - is perfect and something I crave now in pregnancy. We brought my in-laws here, and now it's a must every time they visit. This restaurant had the best meatloaf I have ever eaten. If fried green tornadoes are on the menu, do not pass them up. You will not be sorry. I received a small sliver of extremely dried out meatloaf, one ice cream scoop of instant mashed potatoes (with gravy on the side for some strange reason) and a small bowl of fried okra. This was the nastiest food I have ever put into my mouth, and should not even be qualified as food. The food was old, overly priced for the portion you got and tasteless.
