Tried to spay my already spayed cat, no reimbursement. Can't get xrays of a feisty cat without fully sedating her. Different vet every visit. Cash grabby. I'm going into detail, so no one wastes time, money, or risks taking their fur babies here. I've always loved Dunckel. The last year, since they sold, all the good vets left. I've spent so much money here the last year cause the newer vets are not only inexperienced, but they don't acknowledge your pet, or even use a consistent vet to get to know your pets. My family rescued a 2nd cat (a stray) last year, and every visit since has been horrible. Issue #1.) The vet checked our stray cat, and said she needed to spayed. We paid for pre-op blood work, medications, exams, fees to walk in the door, etc. All to get a call that AFTER she'd been fully sedated and shaved, that she had a scar and was already fixed. They still charged us, and never reimbursed for the pre-op blood work. No accountability, no apology. Issue #2.) They cannot handle feisty or angry cats. I have an older, very feisty cat. The last 2 times she was taken in they were unable to treat her at all, and said she "wouldnt let them"... They prescribed a double dose (night before, day of visit) of an anxiety medication for a high price. We used that, and they still couldnt even get an xray of her back or leg. Issue #3.) They want to fully sedate my cat for an X-RAY. Not only that, but they still charged over $100 for two straight visits in where they did NOTHING. I understand my cat can be mean and difficult, but this is a vet. This is their job. She can't be the only cat that hisses and growls at the vet... Issue #4.) The vets seem to be afraid of her and don't even try to get to know her. They barely talk to my her, or acknowledge her. If they were half as kind to the pets as they are people, it'd make a difference. There are a few vet techs that are great, but that's it. The actual vets are horrible. I didn't even have to ask, the dr told us she didn't think there was any infection because she didn't see any reason for one, even though All of my cats symptoms are urinary related so she didn't see any need to give her any antibiotics, we had to leave having nothing done but lose money to have her come in and feel her guts (something we had already done multiple times) and leave sending in someone else to give us the news of how much just tests would be, she told us she "might" be diabetic. something like $470 for blood tests and $350 for x-rays just to find out? then what??? that stuff costs less for people! I went in today, with an appointment made yesterday, for a hot spot my dog had on her right hind quarter. I just noticed it yesterday and it didn't seem to bother her much, but I wanted to err on the side of caution because I love the ten year old lab mix sooo much!! Dunckel has a brand new building. First time there. Got right into the exam room...As an advanced practice RN, I immediately noted the absence of a sink/hand washing station in the exam room. I thought that odd, but figured there must be one right outside the door. Then the vet tech came in. She was very pleasant, but I didn't know who she was or her role, as she did not introduce/identify herself, so I asked, and she kindly stated her name and her role. I told her why I brought my dog in and she did a brief history and left and told me the "doctor" would be in shortly. Okay. We waited, and my dog sniffed at the urine dripping down the green wall, from the previous animal in the room. After about 10 minutes, a stern looking woman came in with the vet tech and immediately started looking at the computer. No introduction. She turned to me and said that she would "put together a treatment plan". I asked her, "Who are you?" She told me she was Dr. Pond. I found it very interesting that she was already putting together a "treatment plan" including updating my dogs vaccinations, before she even looked at my dog. She then did a brief exam of my dog and then started talking about the vaccinations again and blood work and possibility of steroids. I told her that my dog had received multiple "rounds" of vaccines throughout her life and that I was not going to give her any more. She became, seemingly, angry and told me it was a requirement. I then looked her straight in the eyes and told her my dog would not be receiving any more vaccines. I agreed to have the small hot spot cleaned, clipped and an antibiotic. Also to have a heart worm check done and then prevention. She seemed quite perturbed and left the room. I waited for the tech to come back, and she gave me a "high" and a "low" treatment plan, both with blood work, etc. The low-end plan was $399.!! I told her that I would just decline and seek care elsewhere!! She said, well, the dog had been examined and there was a fee for that!! $75!! I paid it, but will NOT be back to Dunckel. I know they have a new building to pay for! I know pushing vaccines is a big money-maker for them, but after listening to other vets describe the crazy uptick in veterinary cancers and how they believe the repeated, unnecessarily often vaccination of our pets may be a contributing factor, I don't want anymore! Three times is enough!! I don't know if any of the newer vet vaxxes are mRNA, but I would NEVER give one of these to my beloved animals! I also wonder how these veterinarians are paid. Is it salary? Hourly? Or, is it based upon a percentage of how much they bill for?? I bet it's the latter. read more

I used to take my dog here but never again after they almost killed my cat! All they care about is selling procedures, they wanted over $450 for blood tests, $350 for x-rays not to mention $75 for the office call, they didn't even take her temperature or listen to what I was telling them was going on with her, they just wanted money, I took my cat to a different vet, it cost less than they wanted for just the bloodwork And they did blood work and x-rays even with the office call it was less than Dunckel wanted just for blood work! if I could give 0 stars, I would. I am disgusted with my experience at Dunckel. When looking for an appointment for our dog, my mom and I were calling around everywhere and the only place that had a same day appointment was here. My mom did not want to go here for our dog but he was getting very sick very fast and we decided that we would go there for the sake of our dog Balloo. Biggest mistake. Main vet examined our dog for five minutes and said he needed lab work and medication. I decided to spend the $700 ($350 for the exam alone) on our dog because he was in a lot of pain and I wanted to do everything to help. Eventually we went home and he only got worse. Our 10 year old shitzu passed away the next day and when the vet called the first thing she said was that he needed to come back for more lab work, didn't even ask how he was doing. When we told her that he had passed she insisted that he was stable when she examined him(he hadn't eaten or drank or moved for the past three days). Long story short, do not take your pets here. All they care about is the money from the scared clients that come and would rather get your hopes up about saving your pet than giving them professional medical advice and telling the truth. I and will continue to spread the word of how horrible they treated us there and hopefully nobody has to have the same experience as my family and I. read more

So in regards to what happened today at Dunkel Vet in Davison Tia was a healthy (minus her ears and allergies) not quite 2 year old dog, she developed a ears hematoma back in May and I decided to move forward with treatments at Dunkel, her first visit was the beginning of May. They numbed her ear and drained it, also gave her a steroid shot and some ear medication in both ears, 3 weeks later her ear refilled (not uncommon) and popped twice in the last few days on its own so I decided we needed to take a trip back to the vet for 1. Get her ear re drained and maybe some pain medication because it was painful and very big and then 2. Set up a surgery date (they said would guarantee it wouldn't come back) 3. Start her on some allergy medications. So we got there at noon today, acting as normal just with a very big ear hematoma, they took her back drained her ear, told me they were giving a steroid and more ointment in her ears and then brought her back to the room (last time they wrapped her ear, as shaking can cause them to refill) without any wrap on her ear, so I asked them if they could wrap it and they said they tried and the tape fell off, I then said can you go re wrap it and wrap the gauze around her head to prevent her from shaking it until I could order the $50 they recommended off Amazon (stores dont sell them) and they said yes. They took her back again, wrapped her up and brought her back with the bill. I asked for a quote for the surgery we scheduled Tuesday because they couldn't even give me a "ball park price" and they said nope were to busy we will call you later with a quote or email one to you, i said ok fine still set surgery up for Tuesday paid and left. Tia was trying to get the gauze wrap off so I decided I'd stop at the vet store and buy a cone because there way cheaper than the vet. We get to the pet store and inside and Tia started vomiting and pooping and the employee said ma'am let me carry her to your car, you need to take her right back to the vet he carries her to my car and we're leaving now as I'm calling the vet to let them know what's going on they say oh bring her back, as soon as I hung up the phone Tia took a breath and literally fell over in my back seat. I get to the vet and asked for details everything they did this time and last time to see what was different and let them know not even a half hour of leaving their office my dog is dead in the back seat, they lady at the desk looked at me and said "we didn't kill your dog and sorry about your feelings." I said well at this point I think your murdered my dog can i speak with Doctor Johnson who treated Tia today and you should be saying sorry to my dead dog in my backseat, she said I can relay a message and I dont leave my station, i said no thanks id like to speak with her she said well she's busy maybe she'll give you a call later.. so I was already bawling and needed to go bury my dog who's not even 2 and left. They never called. Showed no sympathy and was extremely rude. After my made my initial post their are so many people saying the very same thing.. left Dunkel vet with a pet who died shortly after. I should of noticed the first red flag when they had a sign on the door offering money off for good Google reviews ( I reas Google reviews all were good) Also when I compared the paper work and plans from prior to now, they didn't even numb her ear or give her the steroid injection. Gave me some prescriptions (one wasn't even correctly filled because they ran out and told they'd call me when I could pick up the rest) THE MOST FUCKED UP VET, DO NOT TAKE ANY OF YOUR ANINALS HERE. read more

From first speaking to Jenna on the phone to the staff and Dr Greiner , very friendly, honest, awsome with my dogs and also was very fair with their cost. it's taking me years to write this review. as I've had to deal with the sound my dog made while being euthanized. it was back in 2016 that I took my marybell here. At the time there was an asian doctor working there that performed the service. I can't remember her name. But one thing that I've learned is that she was supposed to put marybell to sleep first . She gave her one shot and she was screaming. I can't get the sound out of my head. I'm still wrestling with this today. Afterwards, they sent Marybell to what looked like an abandoned building to be cremated. I really don't know if she was cremated or thrown to the side of the road. read more

Sadly, we believe we lost our sweet dog to an error on our veterinarians part... While we understand that terrible accidents happen, we were not treated with the respect we deserved as great dog owners. We were not listened to when we explained to them that something else was going on besides his typical IVDD... We took our dog in on a Tuesday and was instantly given a huge amount of pain killers and told to come back in a week. Wednesday and Thursday, we noticed he was showing no signs of improvement (like he usually would with his IVDD) and actually getting worse.. to the point where he was not moving or eating/drinking anything. We set up an emergency visit that Thursday evening. They took numerous x-rays (again) and no other testing was done ... We left anxious & broke but hopeful, as we wanted to trust our vet since we have gone here for years.. Our 4 year old dachshund ended up crossing the rainbow bridge the following morning. On top of that, when I called to tell them what happened nothing was said... whoever answered just simply told me they would put him on the deceased list, said have a good day and then hung up. I don't have to words to describe how sad and unhappy I am right now. I took my cat there just over a week ago and came home with a very sick kitty but with some hope for his future. It took various tests and $400 later we were told by the vet that we had two options. Put him down or if the procedure that they had done that day worked we could return EVERY FEW WEEKS and have the same procedure performed for around $40.00 every time. Well a week or so goes by and we return... $40.00 a pop has turned into $92.00 a pop! NOW WHY WOULD YOU TELL ME THAT IF ALL GOES WELL HE HAS A CHANCE AT LIVING A GOOD LIFE BY DOING A PROCEDURE THAT WOULD NOT BE COST PROHIBITIVE? The Dr. told me straight up it would cost around $40 EACH time. And that we would probably have to cone in twice a month. She straight up lied to us! $92.00 is cost PROHIBITIVE for a bimonthly visit. read more

This place has gone down hill since Dr. Wright left. I was told they went Corporate, basically meaning it is all about money not care and helping others. Prices have skyrocketed, we are on a very fixed income and I have been using Dunckel for years and they use to let you make payments or work with you. My one Border Collie has had 4 surgeries and I have spent thousands of dollar to make sure my animals have all they need. Dunckel makes it very hard for that to happen any more. read more

All about the money I will never take another pet to this place. My beagle suffered for an extra 20 days on November 8th they said that It was arthritis in fact it was kidney failure. They charged me well over 400 dollars and our beagle was in horrible pain. Terrible place. Had to put him to sleep on November 28 he had lost 3 lbs in between October 30 and November 8th. No phone call not one ounce of sympathy, after charging me well over $800 plus telling me all they saw was arthritis in his hips. It was renal failure. Had to have him put to sleep ,the emergency vet said it would be possible to prolong his life BUT the out come would be the same. We decided not to prolong his pain. Find ANY other veterinarian, they are also extremely expensive all for nothing, my beloved Beagle is still gone and they never even sent a card, or pretended to care. Drs didnt call no follow up, when i called to tell them they said yeah we know emergency vet told us! Wow & you didnt care enough to call?? I took my two kittens here to be declawed and whatnot. I did not know what to expect because I had simply seen them driving by. First off, their office is huge. Secondly, the place is immaculately clean. Third, the staff is fabulous (just watch out for the receptionists, they are strictly business only). They communicate via email, if desired, and have a web based chart system for your pets, so you can log on to their website and see everything related to your pet and even send notes to the doctor asking questions. Very cool! They also offer grooming and other services, but having cats I don't use any of those. Their prices seemed reasonable to me. The owner is a graduate of the MSU Vet School. I've had about an hour to calm down enough to write this. I've also spent the past hour praying I somehow find out the identity of the woman who answered the phone and treated me the way that she did. My small dog was bitten by a neighbor dog ( playing) but it was a much larger dog and mine was injured. So much so that she had puncture in her body and was bleeding from the open wound. I rushed to Dunckel and called from the car. The woman answered the phone and immediately put me on hold. Came back acting completely bothered and asked me why I was calling. I began to explain only to be interrupted and she said she would refer me to Genesee ( who was about to close) and I told her I was in the parking lot outside her door. She then put me on hold again and when she finally came back "still bothered " she said that they could charge me $100 but couldn't treat her and they would refer me out? So basically charge me to say "yep she's bleeding " and do nothing.... Absolutely the worst experience I've ever had from a local Davison business!!! I live in Rivershyre and I know that Dunckel sold the business to someone but you would think they would be more careful about who they hire to speak to customers. My pets aren't "like" family they ARE family and this may as well been one of my kids bleeding in my car only to be refused to be seen. I'm still pretty hot about this.. I have been playing scenes in my mind walking up to a burning vehicle with this woman trapped inside so that I could "refer" her to the closest Walmart where she may find a fire extinguisher... then walk away !!!! Their prices have skyrocketed, they are always pushing for services you don't want or need , they use to know all my dogs now I don't recognize anyone that works her anymore other than Chris up front. One of the only vets to go to that is knowledgeable on rabbit medical care. I agree with some of the other reviews that they are a bit pricey and can go overboard on occasion with tests but they have always taken great care of my guys and have ALWAYS made time for us in an emergency. Great if you're looking for a rabbit vet in a pinch. read more

Horrible place. I sent my dwarf rabbit (my baby) to get fixed and they accidentally gave her to much anesthetic and killed her. I still had to pay a $200 bill or I couldn't even get my dead rabbit. And then after paying the bill I was asked "do you even want her?". Screw this place. The vet Sara doesn't know how to distribute medicine properly. The first time I took my rabbit to her she gave me too small of an amount of medicine for my bunny's snuffles. She had to go back and redo it. This time she gave my bunny too much medicine and it killed her, I still had to pay a $169 bill. But I'm sure they're so very sorry. X read more

I scheduled an appointment to have my cats tooth removed. I was happy at first because the facility booked me in to see the vet right away. However, my experience quickly went downhill. Due to COVID-19, the facility is only performing curbside appointments. They took my cat into the office and called me from inside the facility. Without being able to seeing my cats condition, they started to tell me that my animal needed x-rays, blood work, and ultrasounds. Again, I originally took my cat in for a loose tooth that needed to be pulled. Of course, I was concerned for my animal and told them to perform the tests. Which turned out to cost over 400 dollars. Then they called me again and told me that they could not do anything about the tooth because they found some obscure illness that was wrong with my cat. After six hours of waiting, I finally took my cat home in the same condition that I brought her in for. Then, I waited two days to hear back about her bloodwork, when they told me that the vet would be calling me. I had to personally pick up the blood test results and drive them to another vet to have them read the results because the vet from Dunckel never contacted me. I took my cat to another vet that told me, she had no clue why they ran all the tests that they did. And then simply pulled my cats tooth and sent me on my way for only 40 dollars. I called Dunckel to speak to a manager to voice my concerns about service that they claimed they provided, charged me for, and services that I did not receive. I had to leave a message and after a week, I have still not heard back from anyone at the facility. I am extremely disappointed and disgusted that Dunckel would pray on people's concerns for their animals health to just get more money out of them. read more

I agree with Sarah P and Leah D. This place is a rip off, and not only that you have to wait forever to be seen. We have never ever been seen on time; I would say the least amount of time we had to wait was a 1/2 hour but 9 out of 10 times it was at least an hour, if not longer. We took our dog in 2 weeks ago for an infection, she finished her antibiotics this past Monday and now she is having the same problem as before. I called Dunckel last night and the receptionist said that "because it has been so long she would need to come back in." SERIOUSLY!!! Less than 2 weeks is a long time??!!! I can guarantee that I will not step another foot in Dunckel Veterinary Hospital again. I read a post from somebody else about how they sent a sympathy card when her cat died; hate to be a "spoil sport" but EVERY vet does that! read more
