Once upon a time it was a lovely, decadent little shop and we looked forward to indulging in chocolates for our Tanglewood visit. Not anymore. For the last 4 years, the service has been poor and they are out of chocolates on a regular basis. A true patriot goes to Jake's Java…read more Memorial Day is important, but remembering our fallen shouldn't be limited to one day a year. I was interested in visiting Jake's Java after learning Jake was serving in the U.S. Air Force when his aircraft crashed during a training exercise, claiming the lives of all eight crew members on board. As a combat veteran myself, I wanted to support a local business that honors service and sacrifice. This was my first visit to Jake's, and I'm so glad I stopped by. Not only was the food excellent, but it was clearly made with love. In fact, that describes the entire atmosphere. The owner, Jake's mother Kim, is a wonderful woman, and if you stop by, you won't regret taking a moment to say hello. I highly recommend coming by for a cup of coffee, a sandwich, or simply to pay your respects. Outside, you'll find eight beautifully crafted picnic tables, each dedicated to one of the fallen service members. Take a seat, enjoy the moment, and spend some time reflecting on the heroes whose legacy lives on here. Jake's Java is more than a coffee shop--it's a tribute, a gathering place, and a reminder that our fallen heroes should never be forgotten.

They market side of the business stocks hyper-local produce & products from arugula to heirloom tomatoes to ceramic mugs to creamed honey. We picked out two perfectly ripe peaches & a bundle of garlic scapes to take home. The cafe portion has options galore. We couldn't believe our eyes when we saw a gluten-free fried chicken sandwich on the menu. The very sweet cafe worker told us that it was the best fried chicken sandwich she's ever had, gluten-free or otherwise. So we had absolutely no choice but to order two sandwiches, for science. I also ordered an iced latte with oat milk. While we waited for our order, we sat inside at one of the tables by the window. This allowed us some time to appreciate the vibe of Random Harvest. We were sitting, essentially, right in the produce section of the market, but it was still comfortable & warm (literally & figuratively.) I noticed quite a few posters on the bulletin board for upcoming events, local artists, local music, etc. It seems like there's a really great community there. When our sandwiches arrived, we had to snap a few photos. It all just looked so good - & it was! The latte was smooth & balanced. The sandwich was delectable. The pickle was the perfect touch. It seems like a very random place for such a cool business to be situated (perhaps the reason for the name) & I'm so glad we stopped. If we're ever in the area again, we will absolutely be back for another gluten-free fried chicken sandwich! Also - I sautéed the garlic scapes at home a few days later in butter, salt, & pepper.
