The difference between customer service on Saturday last week versus Sunday of this week is mind boggling. Last week we went in, ordered coffee and pastries from the counter where the pastries are and had a pleasant experience. Today things were wild. I was chased out of the store by an employee that couldn't understand why I was confused when I tried and order the way I did last week. My kid and I came in, no one was at the host stand so we went up to the counter where there was a lady that asked what we wanted. When I said a coffee she said I needed to order from the host stand. When I asked why I couldn't order from her she said you can't. When I said we did last weekend and I don't understand the guy behind her started in by asking what we were confused about. When I tried explaining he still didn't understand so I said, that's fine we will go somewhere else. When we walked out he proceeded to huff and complain audibly and follow me out the door wondering why I was confused. I didn't want to get into it but I also didn't want him to follow me to my car so I explained again: I went up to the counter where I ordered last week, the lady asked what I wanted and then said go order with the host. I then asked him why he was confused about my confusion with this and he grumbled and finally backed away. I really don't understand the system and I don't appreciate being harassed by staff when I finally give up to leave. I will never be back again. I guess to save you all the trouble, if you want coffee and a pastry, please wait for a host and ask what the days preference is. read more

Food was great, service attentive and friendly, atmosphere neat, and prices were reasonable. Chef came to our table to chat. Sons are sensitive to gluten, chef's husband is a celiac, so all food allergies, gluten etc are marked on menu and can be addressed. Highly recommend! read more

My experience today was so disappointing that I had to leave a review. My family went for brunch/lunch. None of us were super happy with the food, but I was especially disappointed in both the food and the service/response to my dissatisfaction. I ordered 'nova lox plate with bagel, a shmear of dill lemon crema, and pickled onions--those were the words on the menu, and my expectations accordingly. Instead I got a plate with a bagel (thumbs up!) a dollop of crema sauce in a little puddle on the plate, and a small pile of shredded baked salmon--not nova, not lox, not smoked salmon (though they did claim it was their special in house smoked salmon). I sent it back as not at all what I expected or wanted. That would have been fine and the end of it, I wasn't upset just disappointed with what they sent out. However, then the chef/owner came over to defensively, passive aggressively, and frankly quite rudely tell me that this is how they make it. Ok. That's fine but I don't want it and it's not what they describe on the menu--no need to argue about it. They offered a refund which I gladly accepted. It didn't end there. Another round of defensive justifications came our way with a second table visit. Unnecessary and aggravating. On the way out, the chef passive aggressively muttered under his breath as I walked out about that is how they make it here and something I didn't catch--unbelievable lack of hospitality, brittle and hostile reaction. Sadly it didn't end there, as on checking the refund wasn't on our card, so back we went--I believe them when they said it would show up at the end of day when they run their charges through, but did want a receipt regardless. I really didn't want to fight or further discuss it, but once again the chef wanted to argue that he is right on this--again rudely and hostile defensiveness. Completely unnecessary and unacceptable. On my way out, he shouted that we were not welcome back--as if we had any intention of ever returning after that series of offensive behaviors from him. But at least on that we were in agreement, there will never be an enticement that would ever bring me back to this horrible restaurant and to give money to that horrid man. It's sad, as the Break Room was delicious and inviting, and we love supporting local businesses and restaurants--but that place is a solid no, never again. read more
