1 star because no star isn't a choice. This Dunkin' keeps you running alright...running away! The girls behind the counter could not have cared any less to wait on anyone. I felt like I was inconveniencing them by ordering a simple coffee. My coffee was cold. The girl said it was because of the cream put in it- no Dear, it's because the coffee was old and cold. Funny, because she said she needed to make a new pot. Cold & old coffee at a Dunkin' Donuts? WHAT? The service is only half the problem. The store was a mess. It looked like it had been ransacked. Paper hanging out of the baskets. I guess fixing it to look nice was just too hard for the girls behind the counter. Wouldn't have taken but 5 seconds to wipe down the counter by the register. And a used glove hanging over a box with other trash? I mean, damn.Take the extra time and $ and go someplace else.

I finally found my go-to Dunkin' order & I'm so happy. The gentlemen who took my order this morning was very kind and patient while I was figuring out my order and both of my coffees were made to literal perfection. I unfortunately didn't get his name but he was the one with gorgeous locs. Thank you so much for making my morning!

I stopped in twice during the same day--once for a morning cup and again in the afternoon--and both visits left a strong impression. The shop itself is absolutely adorable. It has an eclectic personality with interesting décor and a welcoming atmosphere that makes you want to linger. Coffee enthusiasts will appreciate the variety of brewing methods on display, suggesting they take their craft seriously. While they offer plenty of specialty options, I kept it simple both times with a Shot in the Dark: a cup of coffee with two shots of espresso and a splash of heavy whipping cream. The coffee was phenomenal. The first thing that hits your palate is a slightly acidic citrus note, almost wine-like in character. That bright opening quickly settles into a rich, robust coffee flavor. The real star, however, is the finish. The lingering aftertaste is remarkable--a citrus-forward profile layered with velvety nuttiness and hints of burnt vanilla or browned butter. Not burnt in a negative sense, but in the way a perfectly browned dessert develops depth and complexity. It was one of the more memorable cups of coffee I've had in quite some time. My guess is that the espresso contributed heavily to that exceptional finish, and on my next visit I'll be asking what beans they're using. The staff were friendly, attentive, and willing to engage in small talk. They never came across as cold, rushed, or pretentious, which unfortunately can sometimes happen in specialty coffee shops. Both baristas made the experience enjoyable and welcoming. The only issue I encountered involved pricing consistency. I ordered the exact same drink both times, yet the afternoon cup cost about a dollar less than the morning cup. Looking at the receipts, the morning barista charged an additional fee for the heavy whipping cream under a "special milk" charge, while the afternoon barista did not. The difference isn't significant financially, but consistency matters. If heavy cream carries an upcharge, that's perfectly reasonable--just make sure it's applied consistently. If it doesn't, then it shouldn't appear on some orders and not others. When customers become regulars, consistency in both product and pricing is important. Beyond the coffee, I noticed an appealing selection of pastries, sweets, and what appeared to be a few food options in the display case. I'll likely explore those on a future visit. Overall, The Complex Bean delivers excellent coffee, a charming atmosphere, and friendly service. Aside from a minor pricing inconsistency, the experience was outstanding. The next time I'm in Wilmington, I'll be making a point to stop by for another cup. If the goal of a coffee shop is to leave customers thinking about that next visit before they've even left town, The Complex Bean succeeded.

Most of the time the service is quick and professional. But they have one employee who has an attitude issue and every time she takes my order, I get the wrong thing. I just got a cappuccino and a mocha. I asked for foam on top of the mocha. She said that the mochas don't come with foam or whipped cream. I know this, I make my own cappuccinos and mochas at home. I was asking for vanilla foam on top of the mocha. Maybe I didn't word it correctly, but the attitude from this young woman can be felt from 50 feet away from her. Everyone else who works there is super friendly. I just wish they would move the angry employee's shift towards later in the day because it's not very fun getting unnecessary attitude from someone, most likely based on my physical appearance, first thing in the morning. The coffee is OK, the selection is limited, and most of the drinks are way too sugary for my tastes. But the basics are decent. I highly recommend ordering your drink at 50% sweetness unless you really love sugar more than coffee. I would rate the quality of their coffee at about 2 1/2 to 3 stars, and I would give their menu 1.5 stars. Typically, service is about 3 1/2 to 4 stars, but today it was just one star. I don't usually leave negative reviews on yelp, but actions have consequences. If you don't like customers, please don't work in customer service. And if you don't like the way people look, maybe work in a different area. Or maybe recognize your prejudice and work on that.

There is no indoor seating, indoors is just for ordering and is very tiny and cramped, with excessively loud dance music playing for the club vibe. Not what I want from a coffee place tbh, but everything looks nice. It's dinosaur themed by the way. Again, line is out the door and we waited probably 20min before we could order. Outdoor patio is very beautiful though, I'll give them that. It's multi level, very green, lots of small pretty tables, and has a wooden deck. Most of the area is shaded or partially shaded. I ordered one of the signature cold brews and I liked it, cold brew is very soft/mild and enjoyable, and the cold foam wasn't too sweet and overpowering which I like. We did come here on a hot sunny 95F day, and honestly as much as we liked the outdoor "oasis" seating area, it was very hot. I probably wouldn't recommend coming here on a scorching hot day. You'll wait outside in line forever and you'll have to sip on your drink - you guessed it - outside. Share helps but not much. On a nice 70F day I can see myself spending here a couple hours easily though!
