Another local coffee shop that gets confused when I order straight espresso. A lot of the time they are confused by the order and ask me to explain it to them. Often a different price is charged each time. The management of this place needs to explain straight espresso to the baristas, and figure out what to charge for what was the first and most basic espresso drink. read more

It was more crowded than we thought it'd be on a Monday around 9:30am but there was still plenty of seating. We each ordered one of the sausage and egg biscuits and I had the nitro cold brew to accompany mine. Both were heavenly and I could not have been happier with the biscuit. ​The reason why I gave it four stars is because the main part of the shop is small, it's usually already taken when I've been there, and that's the prettiest and nicest part. They have a back room, but that side is not inspiring at all and it's kind of blah. The employees are absolutely amazing!! They do know what Customer Service is all about!! Well we will not be returning to this place. The girl taking orders could not be less interested in being friendly or actually listening to your order. I had to repeat my order multiple times and it was still wrong. Not only was it wrong but when we received our order and it was incorrect there was no apology or anything. We were missing a sandwich and one of the coffees was wrong. When we got home one of the other sandwiches was wrong too. Our order wasn't complicated. The coffee is not even coffee. We got a cold brew with some cream and I would say it was half coffee and half cream. I didn't want a milkshake. I wanted a cold brew. This place is also expensive. Great coffee and great service. However, I have witnessed an employee - the guy with the long, purple hair - not wearing a mask (despite CDC guidelines and the worldwide pandemic). I also witnessed him walk in from outside and start making a beverage, without even washing his hands! I think this is unacceptable. Traveling and found this place on yelp. I was looking for a local coffee shop that also prepared some good food for a late brunch. That's exactly what I got! I ordered their famous Nirvana drink on ice and I'm not one for cold brews but I loved it. They have a lot of choices for food. I ordered a breakfast bagel which was really good, maybe a little dry for my taste but still good. My boyfriend got a berry smoothie and their Naan pizza. He loved it. I have been going to Dunn brothers for years... And I must say that when I went inside to the new location and ordered sandwiches they came out fairly quickly and were DELICIOUS. But I went through the drive-through the other day and I will never do that again. Service was atrocious and it took 14 minutes to get a piece of toast with Nutella and bananas on it... I came in on a Saturday and it was extremely busy. I had a breve latte and it was very well balanced. Really courteous staff, and that I cannot say enough. It was absolutely slammed, and there were only 3 people working, the 3 young folks behind the counter were working their tails off and were very nice and professional. My family and I have really enjoyed going there but today when we went through the drive-through, the employee at the window and the two others I saw attending the counter inside were all wearing their masks hanging from their ears. No only was it disappointing, but I felt the fact they had them hanging from their ears was doubly offensive. I missed my morning stop for coffee and Dunn Bros was suggested by many for great coffee and a special cinnamon coffee cake. They might have good coffee but their espresso sucked. My latte was not good at all. Also they didn't have any of the coffee cake. The staff told me it comes in a few times a week and they didn't get a shipment today. Hmmm...shipment? We we're super excited to try this place but left disappointed. We ordered 2 chai teas, which on a cold rainy day seemed perfect, along with the apple honey toast. The chai was so watery and lacked any real flavor. And what flavor there was tasted like it came out of an envelope. The apple honey toast looked delicious and overall was delicious except was missing an important part of the item..toast. The bread was cold and didn't seem toasted at all. However, the cream cheese, apples, and honey made the overall dish acceptable(and the reason for 2 stars instead of 1). We won't be back again as there are too many other coffee options in Rapid City to waste time and money here. read more

I really want to like Dunn Bros because they roast their beans in house and they have a parking lot so I don't have to move my car every 2 hours, BUT.. The coffee is just ok, drinkable but there is definitely better coffee in town. I haven't tried the espresso like the other reviewer, but already knowing how the coffee is I probably wouldn't. Also it both baffles me AND drives me insane that they have an entire staff of baristas and it seems as though not a single one of them knows how to use an espresso machine steam wand properly, so if you're planning on sticking around be prepared to hear the repeated high volume/pitch screeching of incorrectly steamed milk as well as the staff YELLING over the noise. I also wouldn't order a latte based on the educated guess that nobody really knows what's going on with that espresso machine. The food is really not even worth discussing. In fact it seems like food was just an afterthought from corporate to bring up the sales. It is all prepackaged microwaved nastiness. I haven't tried the baked goods because I don't really see a point. None of it is made in house. I've actually bought a breakfast sandwich from the drive through and had to throw it away and go somewhere else because it was so gross. AND I was hungover which means it must have been REALLY gross to warrant that kind of effort. That said, it's a big place with lots of room to do homework and the baristas are always nice. read more

I agree that they could do more with the pastries (sometimes they heat them sometimes they don't, sometimes they overheat them), but the reason I'm giving a 5 star review is because Dunn Bros has consistently been a reliable work space for me for many years. Since 2003 maybe? And their coffee has depth without being overly pretentious. I've also had their tea and hot chocolate and those are pretty delicious. The hot chocolate isn't too too sweet, which I appreciate. The drive through is actually a fun experience sometimes and has enough space for multiple cars. They also have some of the same staff this year that they had last year. All food service and coffee service places will have turnover, but this place has less turnover than most shops I've been to. There are a couple of fun guys who work there currently (guy with the beard), Jesse Daniel, and there was another blonde guy who used to work there who was very intelligent and impressive. It's not like all employees are going to put in extra effort to make your day or will be overbright (fake nice), but more often than not, especially on the off hours, their quirkiness and kindness shines through. They are engaged coffee people for the most part and I love going there for the coffee and workspace, but it's also nice to see familiar faces! Usually good place to go till today, I asked for a couple pistachio muffins the lady told me that what was in the case what she could sell and when I went around to get my coffee as in there is other pistachio muffins on the rack in the back and asked her if those were already paid for and she didn't say anything just proceeded to take the bag that had the muffins I head back there and switch them out for that. Then as I'm sitting there about to leave the drinks weren't even marked so I guess were taste testing. Usually our overall good experience maybe they're just having an off day. read more

I loved coming here when I lived in SD, I would always get a London Fog with Lavender in it. Their pastries and savories were gigantic and tasty, and the decor was pleasant and staff was always kind. I go to Dunns most every morning. Great service! Good coffee. Way better then Charbucks! I usually stick to a medium or light roast. I love a little cinnamon sprinkled in. Smells and tastes great. Cold press iced on a hot day is awesome. Bonus is they have Colonial house Carmel rolls. Hands down the best ones on the planet. read more
