My partner went in and ordered food to go, asked for the bbq sandwich with slaw and pickles on it as shown on their website and didn't receive it so he went back in to ask for it, the girl at the front (didn't catch her name) had a sh*t attitude when he asked for the pickles and slaw, so we bought it because the manager/owner didn't ring it up. His reason was "that picture was from a previous restaurant and he wished they still made cabbage slaw". They have brussel sprout slaw. Truthfully the pork was dry, the sides were good. I just feel like either way the sandwich should have been originally rang up with slaw and pickles regardless the type of slaw and all of it would have been avoided. And having an employee quick to have an attitude instead of listening to understand and resolve the issue is piss poor on managements part. read more

Holy Smokes is right! This place smelled so good upon walking in the door. Minimal decor but it's not needed when the food speaks for itself and the staff were so friendly. He ordered the loaded smoked baked potato with the pulled pork and I ordered the loaded BBQ Mac and cheese with pulled pork and O M G was is good. low-key, family friendly environment. order at the front kind of place. The owners have so much integrity in their food and I have been happy by how delicious everything is every time we go here. (except the Mac N Cheese, I took off a star cuz the Mac n cheese isn't worth trying) The fries are cooked in beef tallow.... To die for. All the meets are smoked to perfection and seasoned well. We're on a tour so we tried to rely on the restaurant sheet the hotel gave us. After 2 horrible meals with high prices, we yelped & tried Holy Sm-oaks on Main St. This is a BBQ place run by a young couple. We had ribs & brisket. The brisket was melt-in-your-mouth delicious as were the meaty ribs. The servings were generous & the sides were also big & yummy. We have BBQ back home quite a bit but this was much better. Prices are very reasonable. You won't be disappointed. read more

Visted this establishment for a last minute dinner and it smelled amazing outside. We didn't get a greeting of any sort nor a smile. We looked up at the screen you see once through the front door and immediately heard, "That's not the menu! It's for catering."*long pause* "The menu is up here." We took that to mean towards the back of the restaurant where she was standing and made our way towards her. She made a gesture towards the menus on the counter and then just stood there looking at me. We immediately felt unwelcome and when asking questions about getting the meat on the side of the mac n cheese, she made us feel even more unwelcome and gave short clipped answers. Honestly, she looked annoyed that we were even there. Not once did we get a smile or any indication that our business was wanted. We quickly ordered and left and my older daughter quickly commented on the lack of friendliness and I agreed. I am very disappointed with the service we "received" as I have tried their brisket sandwich from the food truck and the gentleman there was friendly and informative. My 10 year old was unimpressed with the mac n cheese and said she'll stick to the Kraft in a box. I tried the pulled pork mac n cheese and found the PULLED PORK IS DELICIOUS, TENDER AND FLAVORFUL The mac n cheese, not so much. It is so great to have true barbecue in this area. I spent most of my adult life in the Austin area where I was a huge barbecue fan. It's like having one of the classic places right here in Rapid City. All six of the sauces are top notch. The smoke meets are very, very good. And the smoked turkey... Simple but cool interior decor; counter service barbecue. The sliced brisket, sliced turkey, and spare ribs were tasty and juicy; though the ribs were a little saltier than we like. The sausage was only ok. Broccoli slaw and Mac & Cheese were good. Fried okra was nicely coated and cooked properly, but lacked flavor. It would do well to be drenched in sauce, but none of the sauces had much flavor either which was disappointing. I saw another review say the meat was juicy but we just experienced "greasy." Ate there today as we was participating in car show outside.... I'm from the South and was disappointed. My family is from both Oklahoma and Tennessee so I know both styles. Meat....tasted electric/pellet smoked, aka no real smoke flavor/smoke ring. We had turkey, pork and sausage, wasn't bad just not what we was expecting. Smoked mac & cheese was seriously canned cheese sauce, not smoked and a disgrace to southern mac & cheese. Greens...not bad, but no "pot likker" (iykyk)...was basically salt water, but greens was washed proper so no dirt taste, but not tender, still tasted raw. Potato salad...absolutely no taste...beyond plain canned potatoes. Cheese grits...not bad, except for the pre-shredded cheese on top...cheap and terrible...in south, we shred fresh for best flavor. Over all...wasnt worst but wasnt worth the Ala Cart high price. Honestly....JR's BBq in Black Hawk is way better, and cheaper and is smoked on site with real wood smokers. read more

What a great place with great food! It is one of those places with great food, hospitality, and local feel without that touristy vibe. I had the brisket sandwich and when the owner came around he asked what our favorite sauce was. I just tried the original but he suggested the Texas Coffee and WOW... it was delish!
