Yesterday I went to DL because I am building a fence and needed expert advice on a tricky fence connection. (Ha!) Bryan was sooooo helpful with a solid solution. I knew DL had experts but I was surprised by the prices- lower than the box stores! And their wood quality was better too. No wonder the place was packed with professional builders. This is one of the main places I get wood supplies for my house. After many years remodeling our house, my husband and I realized the quality of the wood Dunn Lumber offers is much higher than other popular places. We don't need to spend hours looking for a wood board that is not bent. Of course, it comes to a price. Since the quality of the materials are usually higher, the price is also higher than other similar stores. But in my opinion it is totally worthy it. Services are also better than other bigger stores. We got a more customized services and people are usually very knowledgeable about the products the store offers. I definitely recommend this place to anyone who cares about higher quality materials and great customer services. read more

We we all know Dunn can be a bit pricey and average prices be 15-20% more than competing stores or online (amazon or elsewhere), BUT, I have always loved to shop here because of their great staff and great selection. That changed today. Mr. Rich at the sales/customer service was not just unhelpful, but snarky, entitled and rude. I got to Mr. Rich's counter and asked him about a speciality external siding product Dunn sells in store. Specifically I asked if there are other sizes available and his response, I kid you not, was "You can do that online and check for yourself". Uh, ok. I said I can do everything online but I wanted to shop local (hint: I am making proactive choice to give you my business). Okay maybe he was having a bad day and was in no mood to help. Thinking nothing of it, I asked if there were other products that could be used as external siding that they have here [at Dunn]. He said "You should first do your own research, I am not gonna do that". Uhh..? I am literally asking if there are products at Dunn that would fit my requirements so that I can buy some. But nope, apparently you must do it online (or be made to feel as you are a dumb bloke asking dumb questions at a hardware store). Rich, I will also order it online from HD or elsewhere buddy. Thanks, you just saved me time, money and coronavirus because you do not even know how to wear a mask over your nose. BTW, I did do my research beforehand and exactly know the options. It was probably too much to go to a local store and seek expert advise. Unfortunately your entitlement got in the way of helping a customer and making a sale. Gonna stick to doing my research AND shopping online. In sum, why bother to get treated like crap and pay more? Dunn Lumber has been around in metro Seattle for ages, and unlike most of the old-fashioned hardware stores staffed by old guys who know everything about every tool or bolt in the store, this place is still in business. But I'm kind of generalizing about the whole Dunn chain, when I'm only actually familiar with thisone store. The people here don't necessarily know everything about everything in the store, like at the old-fashioned, one-of-a-kind hardware stores, but they're pretty good here. What about selection? Since "lumber" is in the name, it's no surprise that they excel at lumber. They're particularly good for selection of plywood. You can get ordinary ugly construction grade plywood anywhere, but if you want pretty, furniture grade plywood for something like indoor cabinets, forget the box stores; even if they have the wood you want, the quality will be more consistent here. They also have a decent selection of indoor grade solid wood. I got a really nice piece of solid oak that was ideal for a repair to an oak veneer cabinet. They have a tremendous selection of things like baseboard trim, doorway trim, window trim, crown moldings, and similar stuff that I'd have to look up to know what it's called. Some of my baseboard trim looks pretty shabby, and I've browsed it here enough to know that if I get tired of the old stuff, I'll buy the replacement trim here. There is a custom cabinet department. I haven't tried to work with them, because I know that even a spectacular bid would still be more than I want to spend to replace my kitchen cabinets. They also have a modest selection of cabinet hardware, but it doesn't cover everything. I already have a pretty sweet deck, and deck engineering is beyond my do-it-myself skill levels anyway. But this place is a great place to go for deck supplies too, either for hardcore do-it-yourselfers or people who buy the supplies and hire the labor. (I'm not writing this for contractors; they probably already know who they like to buy from.) A small fun thing about the place is that they have a little wagon by the door with free wood for kids. What better way to get rid of scraps of trim that are too small to sell? So why not five stars, if everything I've written is positive? I have no complaints; it just doesn't quite reach a "wow!" for me. read more

Even at Dunn lumbering sources could be 25-20% higher priced, I still recommend Dunn if there's molded or damaged wood pieces on the shed. Never run an empty trip in their store as I find better replacement for my used ones. The employees are the shiny part, too. 110% shout out for the team. very helpful, even though they are busy, willing to take time helping you out. They indeed let customer leave with satisfaction. Only reason I erased 1 star off of them,is because return&exchange department could be a little hassle to deal with. read more

Lifelong DYI guy here. After reading the horror stories on attempting to purchase kitchen cabinets from the various home centers, we decided to keep it local and work through the Dunn Lumber cabinet desk in Bellevue. As an added benefit the cabinets offered are manufactured by Canyon Creek right up the road in Monroe, WA. The project couldn't have gone better. Provide accurate dimensions, have some idea of your design preferences and Randy S. will dial you into the Canyon Creek product line, with full 2D and 3D renderings. Quotes, design refinement, order placement, scheduling, delivery, etc. it all went smoothly. I had to replace a couple of my kitchen cabinet doors. I was recommended Dunn Lumber as they are a dealer for my cabinet door company, Canyon creek. I worked with Randy Schultz to get the replacement doors. He was super responsive and helpful, guiding me through the process of finding the original order number from 2003, obtaining the measurements and getting a sample for color matching. Went to this business this morning looking for deck wood. Walked in and asked person behind counter if we could get help with the different forms of deck wood. She basically pointed and said deck wood is back in corner. Did not offer to have somebody to help us out. Nobody came to help us at all. Ended up leaving this business and then went to cedar and lumber in issaquah . They were so helpful and really cared about the customer. Did get deck wood ordered. read more

Despite one small issue, I would use Dunn's again. I had a small project - needed some shelves cut to size for kitchen cabinets, along with mounting pins. PROS: - The (4) service counter individuals who worked with me during each of my three visits were very helpful and attentive. In particular, the first person presented some options that would meet my needs and explained them well. When I called the next day with some additional questions and changed my option, he took care of it. - The first person I dealt with called me after I had picked up all my items to ensure that I was satisfied. Great service; if not for this call I would have given Dunn's 3 stars. (I also explained my below CON to him, and he apologized profusely.) - The quality of the work was good. The shelves were cut to specification from laminated plywood, and my significant other was very happy (which made me happy). CONS - Not a big deal, but irritating. The person(s) who greet one upon entering, and who act as cashiers when you are simply picking up from a shelf (and not consulting with the service counter people), know how to tell you to "take a number". But they could be more customer-focused. When picking up some pins that were sent from another location, I took a number to wait for an available service counter person. After a few minutes, I had my pins. All fine to this point. After getting in my car, I removed the extensive packaging and checked the pins. Wrong color. So, I went back in and explained to the greeter. Her response: "Take a number". Wrong color was not my error, but ok I'll wait in line again. After waiting a few minutes I went back to the 2 greeters and asked if I could just go myself and exchange the pins for another color. They said No, because the service counter folks need to restock the item. Finally I get to a service person and have to re-explain the whole series of events surrounding the pins, because now I was working with a different person. This persons was great as he grasped the issue quickly and just had me go exchange the pins myself. I grabbed a few extra, and paid for them back at the cashier (store greeter) desk. No smile, no sorry for my trouble from her. But I admit she was very adept at ringing up the extra pins. read more

Before you had to take a number and wait to be able to pay for your merchandise. They carry better quality items than you can find at the big box stores. The service wasn't super special, but I did like some things. When I got in I was surprised to be instructed to grab a number. I had a request so I took a number and waited a few minutes before I was called. I explained my need (I simply needed some screws and one piece of plywood cut). The sales associate who was assisting me grabbed me the screws I needed and rang up my order quickly. It took about 15 minutes for someone to come help with my plywood, and another 5 to wait for it to be cut. The man who cut my wood did kindly bring it out to my car, but I had to wait a while for the help. The staff was pretty friendly. The visit took longer than I would have liked (almost 30 minutes) for a few screws and one sheet of plywood, which is why I cannot give it 5 stars. They may have had other orders they were working on in the shop but it was still unpleasant to have to wait so long. read more

I went to Dunn Lumber Bellevue last week for a small yard project that I was not sure about. From the minute I walked into the store, everyone was very nice -- from the greeting lady to the gentlemen at the desk and to the one at the warehouse. The experience was much better than what I had at Home Depot. People at Dunn Lumber showed they truly care about customer service, and they gave you the RIGHT advice for your project. It took a while for them to find the actual product only because it had just come in that day, like an hour before I got down there. No fault of theirs, these things take time. After today, I will always go to Dunn Lumber before even considering Home Depot. Chris greeted me as soon as I walked in and started looking at finishing products, and asked if he could help me find anything. He was incredibly helpful, showing me various options for the different kinds of trim I needed after we recently replaced a few windows in our home. He explained the pros and cons of each trim product. It was so pleasant talking with him about that project, that I brought up two more involving bathroom caulking and replacing exterior cedar trim, and he helped me find everything I needed. (Their wood is full of knots, it's curvy not straight, etc.) Dunn has consistently high-quality lumber. Staff is friendly and helpful. I bought a few different baseboard styles and took them home to decide which looked best in my house. When I made a decision on the one I wanted; I brought back a sample size of the one I wanted. There was a mix up in the order delivery order, I got the wrong size. It set my painters back a day because of the mix up. The good thing was that the next business day my initial order of baseboards were picked up and my correct baseboards were delivered. read more

I keep trying to like this place but unless you're one of their buddies the customer service is horrendous. They spend a lot of time chatting up their friends which leaves you standing in line waiting sometimes 30 minutes just to checkout. I am sure if you are a contractor this is a great place. If you are home owner trying to get a project done on Saturday don't come here. If you have to shop here do yourself a favor and grab a ticket when you walk in so that by the time you're done shopping you may be halfway through waiting in line. read more

A few weeks ago my husband and I took our grandson to Dunn Lumber to purchase supplies so our grandson could build a bird house with grandpa. We were so lucky to have Gunther (sp) help us. I think he must have spent at least 30 minutes helping our 6 year old grandson bring his vision to paper so we could purchase the right supplies. He was so nice, so patient and was generally interested in helping this six year old with his project. Words may not express my gratitude for your kindness and all for maybe a $10 purchase. After my scathing review posted on yelp the store manager reached out to me to better understand how things went so sideways on such a simple order. They also offered to refund me $300 for my trouble. It seams like at least management is sensitive to how their business is perceived and tried to right things. Changing out our trim is just one of the many projects we are tackling and the one we needed the most help with. He was super helpful, patient and kind with all of our questions. They have some pretty specific wood that they stock and are able to get their hands on. They are a great supply store for your higher end wood needs. And they treat their wood fairly well. The customer service isn't phenomenal, but it's not bad. You just have to be assertive with them. read more

Selection of more than just lumber. Unfortunately, employees seem to find it difficult to decide between processing paperwork and checking out people who have merchandise in their hands. We asked one clerk if he was free and after he said no, followed by a long pause and then, "sorry", we continud to wait. And wait. We waited 10 minutes before giving up and leaving our stuff behind. Sadly, with Fred Meyer, Lowe's, and Ace hardware all in such close proximity, we don't need mediocre customer service. read more

As good as it gets... Used them to supply my fencing materials and put in a new deck for my wife. Ryan Jory was great though he seemed unimpressed with my elaborate design drawings... made me laugh as he responded with only, 'We build a lot of decks'. Few moments with his calculator and computer and he had my whole lumber supply list being delivered. He got it perfect... right down the last joist hanger. I have done two one hundred thousand dollar plus remodels over the last six years. I got to say it seems like I have lived in Dunn Lumber. I have used \ Seattle (Latona ave.) and Bellevue- a few trips to Kirkland. They are really, really good. It seems like all the folks know what they are talking about (with a few exceptions). Great assortment of lumber, doors and cabinets. I bought several vanities from them, they purchase through Canyon Creek and are competitive in price. I really like the service 5 star for sure. I felt I owed them a review since quality and service has always been 5 stars. You pay just a bit more (not a lot more) but worth the cost for sure. read more

Purchased composite decking from Paul, who was knowledgeable and low pressure. A few weeks later, we had to order some extra decking boards. I was able to call up and order over the phone and it was supposed to be delivered two days later. The day of the delivery, at 3pm, I called, as it hadn't showed up yet. There had obviously been a mistake, but Nick fixed it right away and had it delivered to our house within the hour. Even got a call from the driver that he was on his way. Bought cabinetry from Ron--a true professional. He tolerated my crazy logistics and my demanding style while clearly communicating every piece of information that I needed. He was constantly checking and double checking to make sure that everything would go together perfectly. We installed our own cabinets and it all went together as planned.
