There's Dun; and then there's Dunrite. Steve and his crew took care of us on a full two unit replacement and adding extra supply vents. He was the only one who did the proper load calculation and figured out the original builder units were actually reversed! 3.5 ton upstairs and 4 ton downstairs instead of the reverse. Install was smooth, techs took their time and were gentle in removing my old units from the attic. After install they took care of a whistling issue on the downstairs return by replacing it with a high airflow vent. I would highly recommend this company if you're looking for a system replacement. read more

This company came out for maintenance. I was told I needed a capacitor. I felt like it was too expensive so I reached out to another company. The other company showed up and changed it at a lower cost. He also showed me how dirty it was and how a maintenance visit should have cleaned it . There was spider webs and everything. I almost signed for new ducts and maintenance package and I'm so happy I didn't! On top of that customer service sucks they just tell you to do everything online. read more

Important note: This company bought Nick's Air Service. Sadly, the owner of Nick's passed away and this company is now owned by Dunrite. I called this company based on the reviews of Nick's Heating & Air, but their services has definitely NOT been the same as mentioned on this profile. In summary, Dunrite is moderately expensive, can make improper recommendations, and the office is very difficult to get anyone to call you back. I absolutely would not use them again in the future and - had I read their Yelp profile for Dunrite Heating & Cooling initially - would never have called them in the first place. My experience: My air conditioning due to leaked refrigerant due to another HVAC technician not correct. Nick's/Dunrite came out during the same day and quickly identified the problem. There was a leak on the schrader valve. They got us back to running - for nearly $200/per pound of refrigerant. 5 lbs = about $1,000. Wow, but we had no choice as my original installer was not available. Our unit has not been keeping up with the 90s for the past two months and the technician recommended 3 different options. I chose 2 of the 3 options: a larger return air duct AND repairing the plenum. I was anxious to get the work scheduled and it took me hounding them to get them to schedule the work. Communicating with this office was very painful. I would never get calls back and would just get a text message indicating when they had scheduled the appointment. Their front desk support was exceedingly helpful but not empowered to do anything besides schedule appointments and pass along info. I finally had the appointment and the technician went to the wrong address. I got a call from them saying they had been at my house and then they proceeded to the next job. I spoke to them and learned they were at the wrong house, but could not turn around to go back to my house. I had to wait until the following week to get the appointment rescheduled. What a disaster. It got worse. The work was finally done - the return air duct and the plenum. I waited a couple of days, but there was NO change in the air conditioning. I called them back again and they scheduled another technician to come out. The second technician came out, a more senior technician, who confirmed that the unit was undersized and "working as it was designed" to cool at 75-76. I don't know a single person who is comfortable with 75-76 in the house when the outside is in the 90s. I called customer service again. When I finally got someone, I got a call from William, who is their most senior technician (an older guys in his late-50s probably). He came out with the original technical and instructed him how to properly do a heat load calculation. They determined indeed the unit is undersized and I needed a 3 ton. I called back the customer service asking for a refund to the work. I've called at least 3-4 times, each time speaking with a very nice person. However, I've still not been called back. What a disaster. I've finally had to resort to filing a complaint with my credit card and disputing it through them. It's unfortunate and I didn't want to have to do this, but - when no one will call you back - it's very very hard to trust this company to make things right. read more

Very disappointed and feel ripped off. I called them to come out to my house for an issue. They sent a tech who gave me a quote to fix the issue. I paid half of the cost that day and he said they'd call me to schedule the actual work. No call received, I had to call them to schedule (after a week of no calls). They finally send out 2 techs to do the work. They do it, take pictures, say its all done, charge me the second half of the cost and say they will email me the photos (never received). Two weeks go by and the issue recurs so I call to have them come back out to check the work they had previously done. I was then told they'd likely charge to do that... I asked them to waive the fee because its work that I had already paid for previously. They say they'll check with their service manager and get back. They then say ok, no charge and someone will be out that day at 4:30.. No one ever showed. At 5:30 that day, I call, no answer and leave a voicemail. They return the call the next day and say they will get back to me later after checking again with their service manager. So far, no response at the end of day. I paid $1900 for this service and am being given a run around now that they have my cash. Beware.. read more

Let me start by saying that their *competition* PROPERLY diagnosed and fixed the issue in ONE HOUR. The backstory is that Dun-Rite are inept and badly managed. It's been four months and they misdiagnosed twice, requested assistance moving the appliance, and wanted to take the appliance back to their place without providing a reason, or a time-frame, or a replacement. A complete disaster. Stay away and spend your money with a firm that has properly trained techs. It looks like they're buying up smaller firms in a bid to expand and maybe they're not vetting their hires? In any case, you won't get updates, you won't get call backs, you won't get responses to emails, and if you do get any communication - it'll be incomplete. No accountability. I posted a review a couple of days ago after receiving five phone calls from a T-Mobile cellphone registered with Lindley Home Services. Someone from a McKinney phone number called five times between 10:30 and 11:30am three days ago but did not leave a message. An internet search linked the phone number calling me being associated with Dunrite HVAC in McKinney, Texas. The scam shield app on my phone blocked all the repeated call attempts marking all the calls as spam. So if my phone provider has marked this company's numbers as spam, I am not the only one continually being harassed by Shelby, Emily and Ashley, all calling repeatedly from a number in Rhome, Texas. I have talked to Shelby and told her who I am and expressed my dissatisfaction with being harassed repeatedly by this company. I also talked to someone yesterday who I believe was named Jackie. I told her in a very discouraging tone that she needed to stop this harassment. The last post I made got a reply from someone claiming to be the owner. He made it clear he takes no responsibility for the problems caused, or more importantly, the problems not fixed but paid for by me and claimed that the people that came to my home to do AC work were not his employees. This is because the work was done BEFORE he acquired Southwest Comfort. Just so you know, it is your company now. So that means it is now your problem. I will never do business with Dunrite. There are dozens and dozens of reviews (not just on this app) about your work being overpriced and when you do the work, you never return the calls from people having problems AFTER YOUR EMPLOYEES completed the work and it was not done correctly. You want to have employees that take pride in their work, then show some accountability and respect for the poor work you did in the past and improve on it. Show your subordinates that you must have accountability. Your response to my first review has none of that. You point fingers and never solve problems. read more

Blower motor had stopped, so phoned our local HVAC experts who we have used for years, to find out they were bought by Dunrite. Engineer was still local and was great and honest. Dunrite however tried to absolutely fleece us on an under warranty part, and told us it was nowhere to be found in the country. This was a complete lie. I talked with another company, who allowed me to listen to the call with Lennox who can have the part with them in 3 working days. The price of this part was also $367. Dunrite quoted me $1100 for the part(under warranty), and $1700 to install it at some point in the future. I am having it installed in 3 working days for under $500 from a competitor. I had originally booked Nick's HVAC, but it looks like Dunrite took them over or rebranded or something. I think the crew is very nice, professional, responsive. But I think they overcharge quite a bit - they charge over $500 to replace a capacitor (part runs for like $50-75) and the job is ~30-45 min from arrival to departure for the tech, including the actual replacement, as well as inspection of system and discussion of pricing. read more

Very disappointed in the service I received from this company. I was sold a preventive maintenance plan and a technician or "salesman" came out and said I needed $3000 in preventive care on two systems. He called his office and then came back with a price of $1500 and said it was a major cleaning of the system and it would take 5-6 hours to do the job. Next day two guys showed up and did the cleaning in less than an hour and cost was $1500...not one part replaced! I've asked for an itemized statement to which they said they do not provide those. Ive called several times to discuss this issue with someone and have been told I would get a call back, but I have not received one call back. I have used Dunrite for years. When Steve owned it, I was very pleased with their service and repairs. I bought two Trane top of the line units from them 7 years ago. Now the new owner's people came for a preventive maintenance appointment and at the end I was told that I had refrigerant leaks and needed a new coil in the air handler. The price that was quoted was $2,200. I decided to have another company check it. The new company found that the refrigerant was fine and that the unit was performing as intended. Came out for a free quote within two days and gave me a verbal quote on the spot that was very reasonable and written the next day. Dun-rite did wrong by us in the hottest days of the year! FRIDAY: sent someone out immediately to assess what what going on. Diagnosed (compressor) and said someone would come out that weekend. SATURDAY: no call, no show house was 98 degrees inside SUNDAY: no call, no show house still 98 inside - we called and they apologized and said they would put us on the board for first thing on Monday. MONDAY: no call, finally at lunch time we called them to find out when someone would show up (kept expecting them each day). After several back/forth calls a manager called back and said she could get compressor until the end of the week and it would be $7,900! We called PROSPER AIR immediately...they found compressor and install done for $2,495 within 24 hrs. HUGE difference in every area of service! They failed in the service, price, communication, and all around! We called them first since they were installs on the ac unit. DUNN-RITE was a huge fail and really didn't care, they kept putting us off knowing the extremely high temps. read more

Dunrite calmed the storm during a stressful time. August in Texas is no time to have your A/C stop working. The unit was already just barely hanging on. When it went down we started shopping. There are at least 5 AC companies that I always hear advertising for on the radio so I gave some of them a call and I called Dunrite. When the other companies came by they charged a service call even though we new we just needed a quote for a new system. When the owner Steve came by, not only did he not charge us but he brought a portable AC unit for us to use in the house. That brought the temperature down inside significantly. He told us to hold onto the unit until we make our final decision and that we weren't required to go with them just because of the loaner. Ultimately we did go with Dunrite. The process for financing was done through their web page and the unit is so efficient that our power bill has been reduced the same amount that we pay each month. read more

When I needed someone to come service my HVAC, I immediately called Dunrite who came highly recommended to me. They got to me that same day, and Kevin was very thorough, efficient, and fixed the problem quickly. A few months later I had another issue and this time the repairs were much more extensive. It was an unexpected cost and Steve was so understanding and worked with me so that I could get the repairs I needed while staying in my budget. Even when they encountered additional problems while fixing my unit, they only charged me the original quote. I have never had a service company do that before.
