If only this business wouldn't permit customer's dogs to lay on top of the picnic tables behind the hot dog stand. I find dogs inside restaurants to be unacceptable from several standpoints but to allow dogs to lay across the picnic table tops is atrocious! Good food served with germs to give it taste. read more

We ate lobster rolls from Dunton's twice during our one week stay in Boohtbay Harbor. Both were very flavorful and extremely generous in the amount of lobster they contained. We tried a lobster salad at the much ballyhooed Shaw's in New Harbor and found both the flavor and amount of lobster far superior at Dunton's. I am posting Dunton's menu from September 2023 so all may see for themselves the choices. We paid $29 for the lobster rolls, a considerably better price than Shaw's or the other touted lobster roll place, Red's in Wiscasset. I also posted a photo of one of our lobster rolls. read more

Could be the Best Burger in Boothbay Harbor, but absolutely the best cheap eats! We dream of places like this. Great food from food stands at a price (Cash Only) that anyone can afford. We had the double burger, eggplant parm, fries and rings. Everything was exceptional. Burgers were juicy and flavorful on just a grilled bun. Perfection! The eggplant was only slightly breaded, then deep fried to goodness. Condiments are typical for a hot dog stand. The whoopie pies mean you can have desert too. We were too full for that. This burger is good enough to go back and see if they are as good as I remember after one day. Picnic tables out behind the stand are fine, but with so many great views within a few minutes walk, take the food out to one of those. Street side parking is limited if you drive. read more

When the cook asks permission to give a slice of bacon to a dog in line ahead of you, it's often a sign that you've found a special little place. That sort of thing, to me, signifies that the staff isn't zoned out. They're there in the moment, happy, and enjoying what they do. And that showed through in the food here. It isn't fancy. It's basic ingredients cooked on a flat top. But, of course, I wouldn't complain if Heaven turned out to be a circular stool at a counter before a talented short order cook... The griddle the kraut to top the hot dogs before slathering it atop a butter-toasted New England style frankfurter bun. That griddling is such a small touch, but it really elevates the whole thing. The fried haddock sandwich is just another nugget of proof in the great campaign to prove it is the ultimate fish sandwich. It's light and crisp and oh so juicy. It's all just very well done, and you really notice after over-eating just how not greasy it is. In short, it's everything you could ask for and more from a shack on the side of the road. read more

Great food from a neat little roadside shack by the sea in Maine! What more could you ask for? I had a foot-long hot dog, and it was great. My wife said it was like a cross between a hot dog and a sausage, in a good way. Excellent fries, too. Their menu is surprisingly broad, and has some items that made me quite curious. What, exactly, is a "Roller Girl"? I'd have asked, but the guy behind the counter was EXTREMELY busy (his shirt read "Save the issues for the tissues, and the drama for your Mama"). Just to be clear: the stand is literally on the side of the street, not far from the center of Boothbay Harbor. You park on the side street, walk over to the shack, they make your order, and hand it to you. In good weather you can eat on the picnic tables in back (they have umbrellas). Otherwise you'd be smart to get your food to go. 20-oz. drinks are available from a pair of soda machines to the right of the shack. There's a neat little store behind and to one side of the shack (I don't know if they're associated at all with Dunton's) that's worth checking out; neat knick-knacks, although some are not child-appropriate. read more

We drove up from York Beach. We are from Connecticut, and all summer watching food posts on FB for Dunton's Doghouse , they looked so delicious , we had to try it. We had the clam and scallop basket with French fries and cole slaw, it was great. So good in fact we went back for dinner. we had a fish sandwich . This place is a joke. I placed my order, which was two regular hot dogs and a large fry. As I waited for my order 3 other people ordered after me. They received their food before my order. When I asked the guy that was cooking about my order, he rudely told me that my order was after theirs and that it was hot and he was doing his job. I didn't saw another word, but then he proceeded to tell the other customers that I had ordered after the previous three people and I needed to wIt my turn. We went to Dunton's last night and I hate to say that every member of my party immediately regretted it. Of the two men working the dog house, only one was wearing a mask and neither were wearing gloves- they were handling the buns with their bare hands on the grill. I'm not sure it met cleanliness standards for normal times, let alone a pandemic. We didn't notice the state of things until we had already got our food and looked in through the back door at the "kitchen". These are served on a grilled New England style roll that were the appropriate size.
