We got into Boothbay a little late and tired and drove through town and happened upon Dunton's Doghouse. A little strange that they apparently are known for their hotdogs but mainly a seafood stand. Ordered a shrimp po'boy combo and some clam strips. They finished the po'boy a lot faster than the clam strips and just left the po'boy open on the counter slowly getting cold. They are a cash only business so plan accordingly. A lot of sauces and hot sauces available as well. Overall it was all tasty and would go back. Lobster roll was $36 and just could not get myself to pay that much from a roadside stand.

Side of the road snack shack with fresh seafood fries sandwiches lobster rolls poboys and more! Sit outside on a picnic table under the umbrella and enjoy a good fast meal served on the corner, literally in a shack! Delicious and fresh fast food.

We happen upon Dunton 's and decided to make that our dinner destination. Mostly because there was parking available and there was a small line, telling us that the food was good. We ordered a shrimp poor boy and the clam strips! Both were very good.

    Immediate seating was available!

If you want fresh seafood at a reasonable price and not afraid to rough it a little, as opposed to going to a more touristy overpriced place, then find this place! Saw many locals drive in to get their orders taken. I had the fried scallops basket, and the scallops were delicious and juicy. Even the Cole slaw tasted fresh. Will certainly remember this place for when I'm in the area again!

The ultimate taste of Maine in a classic form of a roadside takeout. This tidy little place is around the corner from the bustle of Boothbay Harbor but you'll know as soon as you arrive by the cars and line of people. From amazing hot dogs with a grilled bun to haddock sandwiches that will leave you craving more to oyster Po boys. Cash only but an ATM is available on site. A must try for a true Maine food lover.

The best it's that simply said. Fresh and the menu is loaded with options. The owners take great pride in their food quality

Nice little lobster shack in beautiful Boothbay Harbor. It is away from the harbor so you can't sit and look at the harbor while you dine as another review had suggested. The order taker was not particularly friendly (everyone can have a bad day!) but food came quickly and was excellent. We had the hot lobster rolls and haddock sandwich. Just as good as Red's! Finished off with a woopie pie.

I love this spot and almost never have a problem finding parking. Which is amazing, even during tourist season. It's a cute little roadside food place, very Summer. Very Maine. Offers the typical coastal stuff: fried -everything that comes out of the ocean. Plus burgers, chicken, fries, mozzarella sticks, hot dogs. Etc. two big cases of a variety of drinks. A basket full of numerous home baked goodies (I grabbed a Whoopie pie!) and two shelves full of all the condiments and toppings you could want. The folks that work here are so friendly and patient. Love their faces! Lots of seating! Even mini picnic tables for the kiddos.

One of my favorite stops on our Maine trip. We were not planning to eat here, but while passing on our way out of boothbay harbor, we saw this shack and knew that it had to be great. My wife got the shrimp basket and I got the jumbo lobster roll. Both were top quality. The lobster was so fresh and there was the perfect amount of mayo to where it cover the lobster, but did not over take it. The service was so friendly and I and so ready to be back again to order another roll.

The service was warm and friendly, with the staff making a point to greet every customer. The lobster roll may not be quite as enormous as Red's, but it was absolutely delicious--cold, sweet, succulent lobster piled onto a perfectly toasted bun and served with a side of garlic butter. Instead of the usual coleslaw, you can opt for a refreshing seaweed salad, and the generous serving of fries is another nice touch. While you won't have a waterfront view here, the quality of the food more than makes up for it. I'd happily come back for another lobster roll

You have to watch carefully or map to the location, as the passing road is fast and you can drive by it without even realizing it. It's a small building with a decent sized parking lot - maybe can fit 10 or so cars. There is a picnic area to the side of the trailer, that has several picnic tables and a couple of little ones/lower to the ground. Very cute. Some tables with umbrellas for cover from the sun and in our case that day...brief relief from the rain, until it became sideways torrential rain. Plenty of garbage and recycling containers that are easy to locate and helps keep the place neat and free from debris flying around. It's not an extensive menu, however, the items we have ordered are fresh and flavorful. Item that stood out to us, the blueberry coleslaw. It's very very refreshing. They take electronic/card payments - it looks like it's a cash only type of place, but it's not. We had ordered our food for "here" and then the rain came. We sat at the tables as long as we could until the rain was coming down in sheets. We were soaked, so we ran to our cars...the staff saw what was happening, changed our order as "to go" and the gentleman ran the bagged orders to our cars with napkins and every thing we needed to enjoy our food. Great service! My fish basked was delicious. Love the fries that come with it as well. Plenty of fish, so much so, I had to give some to my husband to finish off. I love the finishing touches...may not seem like much to some, however, they take the time to put a tiny flower on each dinner. My niece and nephew loved it!! The bathrooms are in a separate building and are really nice. I thought they might be a potty, but they are fully plumbed, running water and electricity. I definitely will stop again, if it times right with our trips to the gardens and they are open. Great staff, easy location and great food.

Finally got to the front of the line to order at 12:15 and was served my food 10 minutes later. $38 for a sandwich is steep and it's cash only so you have to carry a lot of cash if you are feeding a family/group. They were already out of the local honey soda since I guess they're getting ready to close for the season (it's mid September). The lady who took our order when we finally got to the counter was nice. After we ordered we sat down at a table to wait, it was a nice day out and you could kinds of see the water. We didn't have a problem finding a table, so there is probably the perfect amount of tables correlated to the somewhat slow single cashier ordering system. The lobster roll was piled high and delicious. The lobster is cold but tasted very fresh. Got it with some warm butter and some lemons. I prefer a warm lobster roll, but this lobster roll was just outstanding. Huge and fresh and tons of meat, including plenty of tail meat where most other places only give you mostly claw meat. It was loaded so high, I had to take like a third of the meat off just so I could fit the sandwich in my mouth, and then I ate the lobster on its own with a fork. Easily the best lobster roll I've ever had. But again, not sure if it was worth the 1.5+ hour wait. I stopped here on our way from Portland to Bar Harbor for a few days, and I actually had the opportunity to stop here again on the way back but opted not to because 90+ minutes is a long time to wait for a sandwich. I'm glad I got to try it for the experience.

The weather was a little chilly and rainy, so the line for food was pretty short and moved pretty quickly. The best part about this experience was being able to sit at a picnic bench and look out at the stunning views while enjoying the lobster (although there were some very interested bees we had to deal with). The workers were also very pleasant. I want to note first that I'm pretty sure it was slightly more expensive than the other rolls we ate this whole weekend looking at ounces, but I personally still think it's worth it to try for some of the unique flavors. On the positive, I got the curry lobster roll (4.5 ounce size) and really enjoyed it. Good, solid lobster (not the best I've ever had but no real complaints), and the sauce was awesome with some lemon added on top. You get a little side of chips, those were fine but I didn't need them. My husband got a Connecticut lobster roll (6 ounces). This should be nice and warm all around. At the window they gave him the roll and asked if he wanted the butter on it and poured for him. Very unfortunately this roll was cold all around -- cold lobster, cold butter, and my husband said it was quite unpleasant to eat as a result and he couldn't finish the roll. Afterward, we looked up reviews and noticed that others had a similar experience. Just a bummer to advertise warm buttered and serve it cold consistently. All in all, I would give this a 4 and my husband would give it a 1, so we rested on a 3 because I did really enjoy mine. As mentioned above, I'd definitely recommend trying for the more unique flavors, but for a more classic roll I'd suggest elsewhere.
