Better than solano junction hands down. Unassuming, basic breakfast place. Delish flavors even in the hash browns which you know are generally boring potatoes. Idk it's just tasty af. Duo Grill is a gem. My favorite is the salmon BLT with fries. Salmon is always cooked to perfection and is great when you're super hungry, generous portions. They have a great salmon entree with mashed potatoes and the salad is delicious. Breakfast is great as well, the duo combo is my go-to with a little of everything. The bread pudding is really tasty, not overly sweet and comes warm with ice cream. Can't go wrong! Highly recommend getting the lemonade (sweetened with honey). read more

We wanted steak yesterday. We got it. Arriving a bit before noon, we noticed a couple other tables occupied, but after about 12:10 the place began filling up. Our servers were great, gracious and helpful; husband had NY Strip Steak and Eggs, I had NY Strip Steak with potatoes and vegetables. The food didn't take long and it was delicious. The cuts of meat were tasty and cooked appropriately, and my potatoes (red, mashed) were wonderful! My veggies, broccoli and round carrot slices, were tender. I also got some very yummy toast points: sourdough with garlic and cheese. Some customers seemed to be regulars; one woman who sat after us was asked by her server "Coffee." She said yes, and the server guessed no cream or sugar--yes again. A regular. The ambience was comfortable Albany neighborhood friendliness. I felt myself really relaxing, and the music--although there was a commercial here and there--was actually soft and good (good jazz). We went last Sunday to have brunch. It's a family-run business (you could see the entire family working the floor). They were super accommodating with the orders. My son ordered the 3-stack pancakes, and he asked each pancake to be different (Choco chips, blueberry, and plain) and he loved them. My husband tried the salmon Benedict and he enjoyed the surprising combination of eggs and fish, it was fresh and delicious. I asked for the Monte Cristo sandwich, which has been retired from the menu, but they were happy to oblige. The Monte Cristo brought me back memories of my mom's "emparedado" and it made me travel in space and time. I couldn't ask for a better meal. The side of fruit was total perfection, the fruit was fresh, it was clear that they got those fruits that very same morning and they cut them for my order (they weren't canned fruit or a languishing fruit salad). First time here and this spot did not disappoint. This is a new restaurant as they have only been open 2 months but if the service and food continues, this will be a bustling business in no time. Nice size restaurant, clean and again as they were new, not very many people inside. Boo ordered Salmon which came with mashed potatoes and salad. The salmon was really good and my love enjoyed his entire. I had the portobello mushroom burger no bun and they prepared it EXACTLY the way I requested. They added onion and tomato as I requested and it was super juicy and super delicious. Came in yesterday for the first time after seeing the fine reviews on Yelp. The food was great, service prompt and friendly. Can't ask for much more than that in these times. Menu is huge but I narrowed it down to breakfast. Sampled the breakfast sausage, egg and cheese sandwich on sourdough dough. Yum! Flavors melded well on the thin nicely toasted bread. Then ordered the French toast. Most places in the East Bay gravitate towards thick Challah for this dish. I personally enjoy a thinner slice which is what they offer here. Duo offers both indoor and outdoor dining options and while many restaurants are doing this now, very few are able to successfully provide effective and consistent service to both. Duo does not disappoint and takes great pride in their customer service and it's evident that they care about each table and their customers' dining experience. They've been open for two years and my family and I just started dining out again earlier this year and we've already been back three more times! We're actually annoyed we didn't visit sooner! My extended family come here often to meet for lunch or brunch because the service is unintrusive and excellent and because everything here is so good! The breakfasts have crispy potatoes and delicious eggs. I especially love the Hash Brown Hill, but everything I've tried has been top notch. The sandwiches are great, too. We ordered the duo burger (fantastic and juicy), eggs Benedict, and chicken and waffles (for the toddler). I also ate all the fries off my husband's plate. I've been here a few times now and ethically could not walk away this last time without talking about the eggs Benedict. The eggs were poached to perfection, the whites so light and airy that they could have been mistaken for whipped cream. No weird "boiled egg" taste either - it was like eating a cloud. This provided the perfect medium for the hollandaise sauce, which was also delicate and not overly eggy. Ultimately, nobody was stealing the show from the perfectly runny-but-not-too-runny yolk. A hidden treasure on Solano Avenue that even many Albany and Berkeley folks don't know about. I first came here for lunch, outdoors, when the pandemic was still running strong. The crab sandwich was great, fresh and flavorful. A couple of weeks later, the family ordered takeout for dinner. It was delicious. Soon after, I returned for breakfast, or brunch, my favorite meal of all at Duo. I've had a couple of different things but Hash Brown Hill is my favorite. A mound of perfectly prepared has browns -- not at all mushy, crispy but not burnt -- with bacon mixed inside and with eggs (any style) on top along with sour cream and any hot sauce you'd like to add. Duo has an excellent menu with both traditional American and Mexican breakfasts, lunches and dinners. It's a family run place and service is friendly and efficient. It's a fairly big place, so I've never had to wait for a seat. I haven't tried all of the menu but I particularly like the Hashbrown Hill, the smoked salmon scrambler and the green chilaquiles for breakfast, the crab sandwich and blackened salmon salad and several of the Mexican entrees for dinner. I'd like to try the rest of the menu but my favorites are such a draw I may never get to them. But that's a good thing. Try Duo if you haven't already. read more

My family and I stopped in after mani and pedi from a few doors down . A cozy and warm place with great service. They were very patient with my pregnant cousin and slightly picky mother. This is a great place that does brunch all day! I woke up late, so I was happy that I could find a brunch spot that was still serving Eggs Benny @ 4 pm. I ordered a soft scramble w cheddar, bacon & avocado w a side of extra crispy hash browns, while my boyfriend got an Eggs Benny bacon & tomatoes & a side or Parmesan Potatoes. I really love this neighborhood gem. The owner brings a friendly welcoming attitude to everything they do. The food is very good. They've recently expanded the menu to include a host of Mexican foods and I had to try some. The shrimp burrito was outstanding. Excellent shrimp cooked just right - tender and tasty. The vegan retried beans were delicious. My dining companions each had lunch - a huge chicken sandwich and a beautiful burger with crispy fries covered in garlic. We've had excellent brunches as well with a wide variety of options to meet everyone's taste. One of the highlights is the Parmesan potatoes. They're memorable. Overall really terrific restaurant with excellent service and great food and wide variety. And as a family owned business it's added satisfaction in supporting a neighborhood business. read more

Delicious breakfast! In town for a tournament and grabbed takeout for hungry wrestlers and families. Chilaquiles were delicious (loved the green sauce!). Coaches loved the breakfast burritos (huge portion) and the bacon avocado bagel was a hit too. I appreciated that everything was securely packed and all condiments and utensils included, made it much easier to get back to everyone with food intact. Easy to find and good location with street parking. Parking could be a challenge (tho this is not the restaurant's fault) during busy times but I had no problem finding a decent space on a Friday late morning. Will be back! read more

This area is thick with good and great restaurants, so a new restaurant has to offer something special to survive. So I asked the waiter for their most special dishes. We tried the 2 he recommended. Dungeness crab sandwich had some not so fresh crab smothered in grease on a thin slice of ordinary white bread toast. Fettuccine and chicken was even worse with virtually unseasoned chicken in an utterly tasteless white sauce. This kind of fare may be ok in smalltown USA or some suburban mall, but it just won't cut it in the Bay Area. From the other reviews, it seems like breakfast is a better choice here. But breakfast doesn't take much skill, and I think it takes more than breakfast to survive. I hope they understand this and can do better. read more
