I was hot and tired from a long hike I did and it was really hard for me to cool down in the room and get a nap in unfortunately. The good news is that the room cools off as soon as the sun moves behind the cabin. The studio suite I was in was pretty well equipped. Keep in mind they ask you to not rely on housekeeping to take care of any messes you might make while you are there. Sometimes when you go on vacation you sometimes want to leave the chores at home but this lodge asks that you haul out your trash and respectfully clean all the dishes used for coffee, etc. I was fine with that but just something you should be aware of when about to check out. Also read the literature they give you at check in thoroughly . I didn't realize I needed to hang a parking sign on my parked car until I read the brochure at 5am the next day but lucky for me my car was still there. Also reading the literature in the envelope they mentioned check out was at 11 but the introductory email I was sent said 10, so there was that indecision as to how late I should sleep in to but I just decided to check out at 7 instead and save any headache and also get a jump on the crowds at Grizzly Manor Diner. Great place for families tho, lots of space to run around outside, bikes to ride around, campfires to sit around, and bring your swimming trunks too. Taking a dip in their pool is the instant solution to the air conditioning dilemma besides taking a cold shower. I'd give Noon Lodge 4.5 stars w the opportunity for 5 if they had some AC, but like I said, check the temps ahead of time and probably stay here if it doesn't get above 80 the days you come.

Then upstairs, a loft with a twin over full bunk bed, then another bathroom with shower and a large bedroom with queen bed and a balcony overlooking the lake. There was a nice size pool with loungers, a few fire pits with chairs around, picnic tables, cute lighting, soft music. Games here and there like cornhole. Towels provided at the pool. Canoes that you can use. Just make sure to sign the waiver. We used the canoes everyday. No extra cost. Jesus was so helpful! Texted him a couple of times and immediately was there to help (like get the stuff for the canoe and turn on the fire pit, not any problems.) yeah the place is a little older but All of big bear is. The "drive way" is a much like a trail path w a very good incline and lots of roots, rocks and a dip or two along the way. Once at the cabin, there is a flat area for parking, about 3 cars fit. Cabin - Absolutely stunning! A old-time cabin that was been updated with a modern flare inside. Full bathroom with a barefoot claw tub (great for soaking)! The towel rack is a heated on so your towel will be dry in no time. The unit has a full kitchen, dishwasher, gas grill and a multi unit washer/ dryer combo inside. The living room has a full size leather sofa, round ottoman and chase, very inviting! There's a queen size bed in the unit with windows that will over look your car. Total privacy - you wont see any neighbors and they wont see you. CAUTION - What you will hear is bears or raccoons scratching on the unit in the am! They should consider doing a few upgrades, though (hopefully without having to raise their rates!) PET PARENTS: Dogs are allowed but there is a fee. (I believe it was $35/night.) I had 9 separate cabins rented from June 15th to 21st for a family reunion vacation. We have been…read morerenting in Big Bear for over 50 years and this was our 2nd stay at Shore Acres Lodge. Our next trip will likely require 10 to 14 cabins. We love the rustic casual aspect of Shore Acres for our quickly expanding extended family. If a place is too nice, we worry about all the children running around. That being said, there are some clear maintenance issues that need to be addressed. There were issues with the plumbing. Shower heads that were split and sprayed out the side. Or the rain shower heads that are designed for higher water pressure, so they weren't very efficient. My personal cabin, 110 Lakefront needs new faucet canisters in the shower. It was nearly impossible to get a reasonable temperature. You had to tap the cold faucet in order to change the temp one way or another. It was too sensitive to turn. Many of the windows in various units didn't open at all or wouldn't stay open. Or the screens were damaged, allowing insects to fly in. This made it difficult to cool off the cabins in the evenings. 109 lakeside had a mini split A/C that didn't even work. The coffee maker in our unit 110 lakfront had not been cleaned and was full of old coffee. The new ceiling fans with lights have a setting that turns the lights on and off randomly. It's called an away setting for security purposes. The problem though is the remote isn't clear on how this is turned off and on. So, the lights were constantly turning on and off randomly forcing us to just not use the fan and light. The grassy area in front of 110 lakefront is the area where we like to all put out our chairs to relax together and look out at the lake while the kids play. This area has some deep ruts and trenches from vehicles driving through in the mud. It's since hardened causing a dangerous tripping hazard for everyone, especially the elderly. It needs to be tilled up and leveled or filled in with dirt. Some of these issues were addressed by maintenance, and some we just dealt with as we wanted to relax and not be inconvenient with maintenance. We also had a few nights where the swimming pool, and community barbeque area were taken over by employees and their families. I appreciate a company that values their employees. Though we were a large paying group and shouldn't be competing for space with the employees. For the most part our group is pretty chill, and we would have just accepted it for what it was. Though how the trip finished is really what has left a sour taste and moved me to leave this review. The power went out about 9pm the night before we checked out. The reason is totally understandable and acceptable. But the fact that Big Bear Vacation Rentals was aware of this before it happened and did not notify us so we could be prepared is not acceptable. Just having the chance to charge our phones before it went out. We had 36 people there with a lot of small children that were scared. And we had to pack up and get out that next morning without any power. I was asking about a later checkout with no responses. In fact, the responses I was getting were not even relevant to the questions I was asking. I have saved the whole text thread. Lastly, we had some family members who had forgotten items in three different cabins. This is ultimately their fault. Though it was very difficult to get through to anyone to report it. When I did get through, I was assured that items are always turned in by housekeeping and we would be notified. But days went by with no response. I had to keep asking about it. Ultimately I was just informed that nothing was found. I can see where one lost item didn't turn up, but 4 items just vanished? Where did they go? Ultimately, we love this location for our large family trips. But I'm stuck in the middle of upset family members who are now pressing me to find a different location. I'm hoping they calm down by the time I start to book again as I do love it there. I will say that the gentleman on location there during our stay was very friendly and helpful, though I can't recall his name. This Review was posted directly to Big Bear vacations, which responded in a very generic way. Were now approaching 3 weeks away and nobody has responded further. Since my future business isn't important enough to even warrant a phone call from management with an attempt to rectify these issues my family has urged me to take this public to inform others of potential issues they may incur.

It was to culminate with going to Oak Knoll Lodge, our family's traditional vacation spot when we grew up. We used to spend a week there swimming in the pool with a slide, playing shuffleboard, horseshoes, ping pong and going into town for some shopping and hiking. We booked the entire lodge for 3 nights including one night free for booking 2 nights. We were excited to experience the Oak Knoll Lodge with our children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. I should have known there was a problem when I tried to confirm the booking a month in advance and the phone number on the website was not answered with no mailbox having been set up. After many attempts I finally got thru to someone who was representing the new owner. They told me our reservation was there, but only for 2 nights so I added the 3rd night for an increased cost. I paid over $5,000 for the 50% deposit. On the day of arrival some of my family members got there early but could not check in without me or my brother being there. Then my daughter called to tell me the pool was empty and there was nobody in the lodge, just a sign to call a different lodge to check in at. I was upset, because with the temperatures topping at 80 degrees the pool was essential for a good time. I called the phone number, and the representative could not give me any information other than the pool was not available. She refused to give me the name or number of the owner and only the first name of the manager, no number to call. She did have the manager call me and then he had the owner call me who said the pool had an issue 3 days ago. I asked why I wasn't told about this, and he said it wasn't his fault it was not working. He then wouldn't let my people check in without us first making payment in full. I eventually got him to let my people check in and he agreed to give me a 25% discount and the use of another pool at another lodge. When my family finally checked in, there were no amenities. No shuffleboard, no horseshoes, no pool and the only ping pong table was in the office that had nobody working there. Many of the cabins were dirty without working stoves, microwaves or refrigerators. There were even mouse droppings in the beds, bowls and flooring. Some of the cabins were missing bedding, pillows, utensils... Because of the missing amenities, unsanitary condition and poor maintenance of the cabins we refused to pay the balance of what we owed and the owner, Ken, then refused to let us use the ping pong table or main lodge area during our stay. The pool he promised to let us use at a lodge over a mile away was small, no slide, dirty, seating for only 5 people and no water in it. The pool at Oak Knoll Lodge, we later found out, had not been used or working for a long time. When I told Ken about all the problems and our unwillingness to pay the balance, I never heard back from him, the manager or the check in person although someone did send a person to clean the rat droppings. We ended up having to pay an extra $4,000 to give my family other activities to do which included the Alpine Slide entertainment area and the Lodge at Big Bear with a working pool that would keep them cool and have fun to finish what was supposed to be our first ever epic reunion. The reunion ended up great no thanks to the poorly managed and laughably inadequate accommodations at the Oak Knoll Lodge. If you decide to go there, you best check it out first as it was clearly not what was represented on the website.

This cabin is situated in a great little spot. Pretty private, with space for the dogs. The fire pit is so awesome, easy to use and they supply you with all that you need to start it and roast some yummy smores. CONS: There are lots of flies and tiny bugs (obviously because you're in nature)- but it would be handy to have thought to bring the anti-bug coils/repellants. The bed is comfortable to some I'm sure- but we are picky and it wasn't amazing for us. There's only ONE standard plug in power outlet & 2 usb (not mini!) by the door/table. Nothing near the bed or in the kitchen area- so plan accordingly. Also, there was no mirror anywhere in the cabin- and I only realized this once I went to take my contacts out for the night. So if you wear contacts or like to put on a splash of makeup before, heading into the little town... Bring your own! Overall, I'd give this place an eight out of 10. Super cute...
