For the love of tacos. This place is great. One thing I know is Mexican food, and tacos are my go to item. I've had tacos from South American to Canada. Spending a lot of time in Mexico and growing up in Southern California. I've had the good and bad tacos. Bottom line is this place has outstanding tacos. This is not a fancy restaurant. I first walked in the shop area and the lady at the front didn't even look up to say hi or greet me at all- she was just on her phone. I found the attached restaurant and ordered two tacos. The place was not clean and didn't smell good. The chicken in the tacos was so overcooked and hard. The tortilla was also hard. The salsa bar smelled so bad that the items offered seemed like they went bad. The salsas were thick and crusty. I tried a few and they were definitely sitting for a while without being properly kept at a safe temperature. A beetle crawled on my table while I was eating and at that point I didn't want to finish my food. I just threw out the food and counted my losses haha. Yelp failed me this time ha! read more

I used to love this place, I actually gave them 5 stars! (That is what the picture is from). I am updating my review due to the recent experiences I have had here. I never really had a problem with the food, that was always reliable. But recently when I would go to get a takeout order, the (assumed) manager or owner would talk to me and engage conversation. I didn't think much of this and actually thought it was a nice gesture until he started asking me my age, where I lived, and when my birthday was.... I got an uneasy and uncomfortable feeling. Then exactly a week after that conversation I see that this same man followed me on Instagram. How he knew my first and last name a WEEK later to find my account is a mystery to me, the only thing I can think of is he looked at my credit card info from the receipt when I paid. Super legit street tacos! I had the Al Pastor tacos (of course) on corn tortillas with onions and cilantro and they were amazing! They have a salsa bar with fresh cut limes and the collocated grocery store sells baked goods.... Have been there many times, but today was the first time I gave them only a two-star rating. The prices have gone up, significantly in some cases, and my pollo asado was just not good. It's usually great. Pollo Asado was on the board as a special, but I'm wondering if they just hadn't changed the board and warmed up some dried out (near burnt) weird pieces of chicken on the plate. CA transplants found this authentic excellent Mexican food in Auburn by a gas station. Birria taco was excellent. We also ordered carne asada and carnitas tostadas, which were delicious and plenty. Their rice was good and done right. Great place to go to for delicious Mexican food, dine-in or to go, esp when you're on a budget. Their salsa bar had a nice selection of picante to mild, roasted chile con sal, etc. Restaurant is ajoined to a store that sells Latino products. Check them out. read more

They might be okay if you are dining at the restaurant, I don't know we've never dined in at the restaurant. However, when ordering to have delivered, you don't get much food for what you pay and my husband had ordered a couple of the street tacos as well. They had very little meat on them and nothing else (not even cheese!). I was looking forward to what I ordered but my order was wrong. I had to wait at least 30 minutes for my quesadillas. Luckily the cashier allowed me to customize my large quesadilla to incorporate half-pork and half-asada. There may have not been enough cheese. However, during that 30 minutes, they have a little market and grocery store-like aisles ito explore. They sell a variety of Mexican meats, produce items, little trinkets like candles and authentic imported products. I also found Luigi and Hello Kitty pinatas. The employees running the market are very friendly. The store may seem kind of dirty but the bathrooms are abnormally spotless. read more

It's somewhat hard to see from the street, so I don't know how many people are finding the place by accident. There's a dumpster not that far from the front door, so on a breezy day, the aroma of garbage juice drifts over as you enter (the smell does not enter inside). The cashier spoke Spanish only, but understood English well enough to take an order accurately. The drinks were good, though the machine made an intimidating hiss sound when dispensing horchata. The serving sizes were generous. The chile relleno was delicious, but the breading was a bit greasier than I was used to, which may suggest that the oil tempterature was a bit lower than it ought to be (or that they were frying too many things back to back without letting it get back up to temp). The carne asada had a good flavor, but had a tough and chewy consistency that suggests that it hadn't been prepared correctly. The interior is a bit dark, which I prefer. Overall the staff were friendly and I had a good time, but I don't think the place is being kept to a proud standard whether it's about the food or the experience. read more

Best tacos I've had since moving to the Georgia/Alabama area! Since my husband and I left El Paso, we've been jonsing for some good, authentic Mexican--- this is definitely it. I got the Al Pastor, Pollo, and Carnitas tacos, and he got Asada, Barbacoa, and Carnitas. All were absolutely delicious. I would have liked just a touch more sauce on the Pollo, but the flavor was still very good. Topped off the meal with a couple of Topo Chico sparkling waters and called it a day. Yum! read more

Incredible! Its in the same building as voodoo needle, just the opposite side (dean road side). It doesn't have a sign and it doesn't look like a resturant from the outside. The food is truly amazing. Its authentic Mexican, the tacos are not shells they are warm corn tortillas etc. As another reviewer stated try something new and ask questions, they speak perfect english and can tell you what you are getting into. I tried Lengua tacos for the first time here (beef tongue) and they are great! You have to try the chorizo taco, Its the best I've ever had. Will be going here often. Note- this is not a typical restaurant with waiters and margaritas, they have a good sized seating area but but you order at the counter and it is also a small store. Definitely my favorite sit-down Mexican place in Auburn. This is a great place to come, enjoy some good conversation, and enjoy some good authentic Mexican food. Big fan of the standards (Quesadillas, Tacos, Burritos, etc), but they also do a lot of the harder to find Mexican specialties that you won't find easily anywhere else. I've honestly never found the wait to be an issue (generally never in a hurry eating there), but I know they're making the meal fresh and that takes time. The only people I've ever taken there that weren't satisfied made comparisons to Taco Bell or Laredos, so you can draw your conclusions there... I felt it was similar to taking someone to a very nice steakhouse and having them complain that it isn't like Applebees... Aside from that, I've gotten to know the family from the many times I go and they're always very happy to see me and chat. Definitely a good local small business worth supporting! read more

This is my favorite restaurant in Auburn, and the best Mexican food I've found in the US. As one reviewer noted, sometimes the wait can be a bit long, but that's understandable when the place is crowded, given it's small size. Other times the food comes out quite quickly, and the staff is always very friendly. The good is fantastic and very authentic. Also, the portions are quite generous. All the meats that function as fillings are fantastic, from chicken and steak to more exotic options like lengua or cabeza. If you want authentic but not 'weird' I suggest you stay away from boring chicken and go with carnitas, chorizo, and al pastor (in fact for your first time here I'd order one taco of each of those meats). The tacos, burritos, tortas and quesadillas are all fantastic but don't be afraid to try the plates or stews either. And if you aren't sure what something is, just ask. Also make sure you try some Jaritos mexi-soda while you're waiting, and use salsa/green sauce liberally. Enjoy! read more
