I have said it before and can say it again, one door is closed find the one that is open. It was not our intention to have breakfast here. We are so glad we did! The portions were plentiful that we manage to have a little leftover for our breakfast the next morning before we left for home! The service was great! Loved the decor with all the cookie jars. Really like the burgers and fried okra. Fried okra was crispy. I know on the past there have been issues but not since the last few times I have eaten here. The fries are homemade. My favorite place to have breakfast in the morning. I love their coffee and it's $1 a cup!! I'm a sucker for breakfast, just a good ol' American breakfast, and they do it right. I've also had their meatloaf which I enjoyed, it was moist and hearty. Their hamburgers are delicious, it's one of my favorite items. Their chicken strips are deliciously seasoned so you don't even need sauce with them, but I love their white (country) gravy with them. Now if you're in the mood for something smothered in gravy get their open faced roast beef sandwich, it's so DELICIOUS! My favorite item on their menu. As far as service goes, they have some of the nicest waitresses in town. They are friendly and attentive. If you're passing through or vacationing in our beautiful town, breakfast, lunch, or dinner here won't disappoint. They also have various dessert items that will satisfy any sweet tooth. read more

In New Mexico, it's all about the green chiles, so don't skip out The kids enjoyed a Paddington boot, with a side order of eggs. I ordered the lumberjack, which is there version of a biscuits and gravy griddle. I recommend the western potatoes. The portion was filling and then some. BEST Breakfast in Cloudcroft! Everything is cooked to order, fair prices and huge portions. My favorite thing to order is the Hiking Boot Omelette and add swiss cheese on top. OMG this omelette is amazing. 3 egg omelette with sauteed mushrooms, zucchini, squash, spinach, tomatoes and onions. Keep in mind these vegetables are fresh and sauteed al dente, which contribute significantly to the flavor and texture. Personally I think the swiss cheese takes it over the top. Service is iffy. One time it's great, the next time a different waitress has a terrible attitude. You never know what the visit will bring. Same with food, some days it's good other times it's not all that great. We get this is a small community but that's no excuse for crappy attitudes and burnt bacon and raw eggs. read more

Small town country charm serving up a world-class dining experience. We ended up here just by chance and can't believe our good fortune. Super friendly and helpful staff serving up great food. Best chicken fried steak I've ever had, and the eggs were perfect. The highlight was the German food served on Friday and Saturday nights. The Schnitzel was the best I've ever had! Perfect in every way. The meatballs and potatoes were incredible, as well. I cannot give a higher recommendation to any restaurant near or far. This place is worth traveling for. After spending a couple of hours touring the Solar Observatory in Sunspot, NM, we drove back into Cloudcroft, NM where we were spending the night. Since we were hungry, we decided to eat a late lunch/early dinner at the Dusty Boots Cafe. My wife had a sloppy joe with sweet potato fries and a salad. I had the meatloaf with mashed potatoes and pinto beans. Both of our meals were very good. Service was outstanding. Staying at the motel we thought we would try the cafe and are glad we did. We had dinner our first night. I had a burger and fries and my wife had a chicken salad. They were both delicious. Our last day we also had breakfast. Again our meal was great and reasonably priced. We would definitely recommend the cafe. Both times the servers were attentive and friendly. The cafe was clean and decorated similar the the motel rooms, quaint antique. In the winter I can imagine the cafe would be warm and cozy. read more

It won't allow me to respond to Dustin's comment on the review for some reason so, I'll give this 5 stars as to not to unfairly bring down your numbers just to reply: - We were there probably about 11:30ish - and if the place had been busy/crowded or had a wait, we'd totally understand not sitting us at a larger table but, there was no crowd and plenty of tables. The server was not too tall, short, black hair, fair skinned - and just seemed altogether disgruntled. The small table was just more rectangle than square - Also, I did not mention that the table was dirty - had not been wiped down - and when I got up to leave, my pant butt/leg had a big wet spot on it - apparently there was some sort of liquid in the chair. But, that's easily overlooked - it was the attitude that was uncalled for. So, hey, if you don't want us there, we'll leave. So, we did. read more

Wow! This family owned motel really has it going on. My fiancé and I were in desperate need of a place to stay while driving through Cloudcroft and we just happened to see the vacancy sign. We are sure glad we did. The staff was really friendly all around, welcoming us with open arms. We went to the cafe in the morning and our waitress, Athie, was amazing!! She really brightened our mood for the day. The cafe itself was also lovely with all of the personal touches on the shelves and walls. We also received complimentary banana bread for booking! Upon checkout we were offered a lovely tour by Hudson of all of the vacant rooms each having their own theme. We could tell a lot of thought and creativity went into fixing up each of these rooms, and we're so glad Hudson was able to tell us the meaning/history behind most of them. It really complimented the experience! I have already recommended this motel to some friends of mine who will be passing through in February so hopefully they can have a similar experience. If we are ever passing through Cloudcroft again we will be sure to seek Dusty Boots out. Unfortunately we missed out on meeting/thanking the owners but we can tell they take pride in their business. This was my first time in Cloudcroft and we were headed to Ruidoso but went this route and decided to have a late breakfast. We simply spotted the diner/motel and got off. Soooo glad we did (I actually didn't do Yelp research haha) because the food was great! Sorry for only posting the breakfast menu but look at those prices! The portions are huge and very filling. We ordered the Dusty Boot (2 eggs 2 meats and hash or western potatoes ). I got my potatoes western and they were delicious. I opted for a pancake vs toast or biscuit and I'm glad I did. The pancake was huge but so yummy! The only thing for me is that the coffee was very weak, watery(?)...I love my coffee strong so it could very well be just right for those with a different caffeine liking. I saw other tables with skillets and they looked amazing! I'd love to try their lunch menu one day. read more

My husband, 18 month old, and I ate here 3/4 mornings of our trip to Cloudcroft and every morning we left fat and happy. The food was always great, service was fast and friendly, and it has the feel of a cute mountain town mom and pops cafe. The meal portions are huge too. My order was a Lumberjack Boot - a skillet dish - 2 halved biscuits topped with white gravy, 2 medium eggs, and crumbled bacon and sausage. This quaint little restaurant in Cloudcroft New Mexico has charming decor and good food! They have cookie jars of all types lining shelves around the restaurant with themes in groupings. They have specials on Friday night -I believe it is catfish, and on Saturday night is German food. We went Saturday early evening, it wasn't too crowded and the German food was very good! I had the bratwurst, you could taste that it was made with beer, the German potato salad and cucumber salads and homemade rolls were very good. I tried the schnitzel and it was VERY good as well. Could not have had a better experience at this homey little cafe! The food was delicious and a generous portion, the coffee "a buck a cup" with free refills (unheard of in this century...), and the service was beyond stellar. Our waitress, Athie, moved through the cafe with efficiently and laughter, her good cheer liberally sprinkled throughout the cafe until everyone seemed to be smiling. Certainly our spirits were lifted, and they needed lifting after a car break-in in Espanola, where we lost a trunkful of ham radio equipment, our camera and GPS, and worst, our beloved dog's ashes. Athie's genuine happiness was contagious, and we left smiling for the first time in days. We were expecting a good breakfast (and got it), but got much more that morning.
