My sister and I and our two little cousins under the age of 10 went to Dusty's for a sweet treat and some ice cream. The place said that they opened at 12 o'clock and we saw two members of the staff walking in and out repeatedly without acknowledging us or letting us know that they would not be opening at 12. We sat outside for 30 minutes or so, without being acknowledged once; and the lady was very awkwardly just looking at us. The door was unlocked, but the place was completely closed with the lights off and nobody seemed welcoming or friendly. We came despite the rough reviews and had a totally pleasant experience. Service was prompt, they are very generous on the scoops, and the flavor selection was good. We got the mint chocolate chunk, coffee fudge, and vegan vanilla. The mint was very minty with huge dark chocolate chips, and there were rave reviews for the vegan vanilla (he went back for seconds). Went late night after mini golf at the beach. Surprisingly good. Tiny inside, a few picnic tables outside were great to sit and enjoy the ice cream. I got an açaí bowl which was really sweet, good size, and pricing was ok, but probably not something I'd get again just cause it was really really sweet. Good size scoops on the cones and cups. Servers were very nice and helpful. They sell some beach stuff there too. Parking was easy right in front and sides. Right on the way home from the beaches... Check it out for sure! read more

Meh this place was a huge letdown. We had just spent the whole day at the beach and were looking forward to some delicious ice cream. There is a big black board listing all the flavors this place offers and after a few mins, we settled on one scoop of strawberry cheesecake....sounds good right? Well right before ordering it, we asked the server if it contained chunks or pieces of actual cheesecake....to which she replied YES! Unfortunately our one scoop (priced at $4) had absolutely NO chunks, again, NOT EVEN ONE piece of cheesecake!! Ughhh... It was really just a big scoop of vanilla ice cream with strawberry swirl. Dusty's is the quintessential New England seaside general store. I'm not even sure why 'ice cream' is in the name because it's so much more than that. It sits on a stretch that looks to be straight out of the set of "American Graffiti," and whenever I'm in Westerly, I visit this shop more times than I can count; sometimes more than once a day. It's a one-stop shop that sells everything: sunscreen, ice, fireworks, candy, paraphernalia to make sand castles, freshly-brewed coffee, milk, and, as the name suggests, ice cream. In addition to all of this, it's got a little snack area in back that sells breakfast sandwiches, grinders, and other noshes. It's cheap and good. It's a true mom-and-pop establishment, and the kind of place you'll find the owner's twelve-year old daughter manning one of the registers. Everyone is friendly. Prices may not be the cheapest in the area (as there's a Walmart a few miles away), but I always shop here when I can as I much prefer spending my money in such a delightful store. Every year its new ownership and it seems to keep getting worse.. Ice cream was bad, my scoop was completely hallow. The madness and flow was all over the place and made there be a huge line. We got a hot fudge sundae and they gave us ice cream with Hershey sauce drizzled (not hot fudge). They didnt have any soft serve ice cream. I hate to give 1 star but I have to. Hubby loves chocolate soft serve cones with sprinkles. So he gets one from here and after licking off all of the sprinkles in comes the disappointment. We ordered 4 large pizzas yesterday at the drive in. We were a group of about 14 adults and were only able to eat 1 box and a half! The pizza slices are huge! We ended up giving away a box because we didn't want to throw it away. The prices are decent. $16.99 each or $19.99 if you want to add a 2 liter soda. They also sell Del's lemonade by the gallon, which was my plan for yesterday, but I totally forgot about it as I was overwhelmed with ordering 4 pizzas as we drove to the drive in. We called it in before we arrived because we were starving and once ppl start arriving at the drive in and start calling, it's impossible to get through. Last year, between my friend and I, we called them about 75 times. That is not an exaggeration. The pizza is good. We are pepperoni pizza fiends, so we are a little critical. Stopped in here on a scorcher of a day for a Milkshake at around 10:30am. The white-haired man who was preparing the milkshake told me that "the machine wasn't on yet" after he drew off the watery dregs from the soft-serve ice cream machine into my cup. After 5 minutes or so, the man delivered a thin, barely cold beverage he refrerred to as a "milkshake" for $4.25. I've never seen a milkshake prepared with anything other that hard ice cream and milk, and I was able to consume this one in under 2 minutes. To me that is an indication of a thin, watery milkshake. I paid $9.15 for a pistachio small sugar cone and a small cookie dough with hot fudge. We got approximately 97 cents worth of ice cream. The dab of pistachio on my cone was so small it actually fell inside the cone. The dab of cookie dough in the cup was so small it was hard to find. And the hot fudge wasn't hot fudge. It was brown slime. Also the place is filthy. With all the other ice cream shops in Misquamicut- AVOID THIS ONE. The only thing big here is the size of the rip off. read more

My husband and I were vacationing in Weekapaug and decided to get ice cream on our way back to the house from the beach. I ordered a peanut butter cup ice cream with extra chocolate sprinkles. I am a summer resident on nearby Breach Drive and went to Dusty's to try their lobster roll for $7.95, a bargain! Too bad I wasn't able to get served! Although there were at least 5 people working behind the ice cream counter (with no customers), I waited so long at the the deli counter for an attendent that I just about have their entire menu memorized! I finally asked the girl at the register if there was someone working behind the deli counter; she stated that she would get someone, but after waiting 3-4 minutes longer with no one in sight, I left, and walked an aditional 100 feet to the Seafood Haven , where I paid more, but at least was able to get served! I called Dusty's to complain about their lack of service, and spoke to one young employee who didn't seem to care about my bad experience but was very willing to give me the phone number for the owner, Mario. I then called Mario and explained the problem to him, but, surprisingly, he didn't seem that interested! As a business owner myself, when someone takes the time to call me and complain, I pay attention! For every one customer who calls with a complaint, there's probably a whole lot more who don't! That's lots of lost business dollars!!!! Oh, and forget their ice cream! You can do better elsewhere ( the nearby Seafood Haven also has ice cream!) The hard ice cream flavors are limited in number and there's nothing spectacular about the flavors they do offer. And they can't even make a twist cone! If you are a tourist passing along Atlantic Avenue going to or from the beaches, or are a resident of the area, don't waste your time (or money!). It's quite apparent that the new owner is only interested in ripping-off the summer residents and tourists, as the service here for sandwiches and deli items is non-existent, and there's better ice cream elsewhere! Shame on the Monday night manager for trying to prove some point and it was not "the customer is always right" nor "we are here to serve you". We placed our order and a new employee finished taking it. The manager admitted that she was new and got it wrong (not a problem) but instead of taking what we were served and turning it into what we ordered he refused.
