    Shawarma Bowl
    Clare C.

I really enjoyed our visit here! Came around 11:15ish on a Saturday. We were luckily able to get a parking spot in the lot. The line was pretty long when we got there and waited around 15 minutes to order. Workers were all very kind. The menu has a variety of breakfast options, pizzas, sandwiches, and different bowls. It's hard to choose with all the options. Also lots of pastries and bread options that look delicious. The inside is kinda small with some seating and nice outdoor seating along the water. I ordered the sweet corn risotto balls and shawarma bowl. Both were very good. I was very hungry so it hit the spot. The risotto balls were nice and crispy with good flavor. The relish was a little spicy. The shawarma bowl was a good size with fresh vegetables. The chicken was cooked well. I thought the prices were very fair. I would definitely come back!

Though we were initially planning on Mystic Pizza, enough locals said don't bother that we decided to find another (better) place to satisfy our pizza craving. Nana's had great ratings and some interesting options so we gave it a go. Parking was easy. Though the place is small, they had tables so we were able to order at the counter and enjoy a nice dinner and not be bothered by the bitter cold outside. We got their clam pizza and the bolognese and both were incredible. So flavorful, so fresh. There was lots of moaning and chair dancing. The red wine was a perfect accompaniment as was the donut holes on the way out. If I live nearby, this place would be dangerous.

Could not recommend more. The place is small but soooo cute. Outdoor and indoor seating and bathroom available. Homemade bread and baked goods and everything is locally sourced. The spicy ceasar is the best, but you gotta pair it with a pizza! This is the butter chicken pizza- amazing. The staff always gives good recommendations as well. LOVE IT!

We had dinner here tonight after visiting Mystic Village and it was SO delicious. Standouts were the New England pizza, tom kha Kai, mezcal mocktail, and fudgy brownie. I was tempted to get a rotisserie chicken and sauce to go but will save it for next visit. Definitely recommend!

Sautéed green beens with salsa macha, crispy kale and sliced almonds

In theory sounds delicious. In reality... not so much. Sautéed green beans were not sautéed....or even cooked for that matter. Crispy kale was soggy. I could live with that if it tasted good. But it didn't, no flavor and very bland. Drove 20 minutes home to be disappointed.

We were visiting Conn College and one of the girls recommended this place for matcha. I asked for recs and she suggested below: We had mint chip matcha and Earl Grey matcha..delicious!!! My husband ordered the mocha! All Amazing. We also ordered the pizza. Bolognese and sweet potato pizza she recommended . Both were the best I've ever had! I recommend the sweet potato pizza if you're curious. You can't go wrong with any flavor!!! The sourdough crust was beyond amazing! The crunch did it for me! A gem of a place! We sat outside and enjoyed every minute while We were there. Of course the weather was gorgeous outside! Chilly but sunny!! Highly recommend the brownie too!!!

I mean I just love Nana's! We were driving through Mystic and I was pleasantly surprised to find this Nana's location on Yelp! It's behind an autoshop and I definitely had to circle twice to find it. Basically just park at the front of the auto shop and it's in the right back corner. I ordered the Life on Marzipan latte and it was delicious. I also enjoyed a peppermint cupcake. And I still stand strong with the statement that the Nana salad is the best salad out there. So delicious. We were here in winter so it was tight inside. Would love to come back when it's nice out and sit outside. The rotisserie chicken "bathed" in sauce is definitely on my to try list.

Miso caramel and crunchy spiced oats sourdoughnut

A delightful assortment of specialty lattes, donuts, and sandwiches/salads and located right by the water. Highlights include: - Any of their sandwiches. The chicken salad sandwich was light, with the mayo, but hearty enough with the toasted sourdough, which was really good. - Miso caramel coconut syrup. The extra $1 is worth it. The caramelized coconut is prominent. - Banana latte, if you want a subtle banana flavor but something still espresso forward. I opted to add the caramel syrup in there. - Pizza: they had a spicy Italian pizza, which was thin crust and had mortadella and spicy sausage with arugula on top. - Miso caramel donut - very soft. I'm usually not a fan (I prefer an old-fashioned donut), but I would get this again. Get the Cacio e Pepe donut if you want something different (it doesn't taste very cheesy)

I went here for the first time today and it was so cute. They weren't serving breakfast anymore as it was 11:20 AM on a Saturday. So that was a little sad, but we got grilled cheese and some french fries. I asked for no onions, which they accidentally forgot, but it was still good. They have very few tables, but we ended up snagging them. The hot chocolate was so good and the food ended up being really good. Their ingredients taste very fresh and next time I will try the pizza.

    life on marzipan latte ($5.50)

#29 in my NEW ENGLAND & NY COFFEE SHOP SERIES This place has been on my list for donuts and coffee! Unfortunately when I went it was 5pm and they were all out of donuts (as expected), but I did still get a coffee. I decided to get the life on marzipan latte ($5.50) which was surprisingly really good! I would definitely get it again. They also have some Spanish inspired drinks as well as many classic coffee drinks. In addition to bevs, they also have a huge food list. People typically like to get their flatbreads/pizzas! Inside is a little small, just 4 tables, but they have outdoor seating with a wonderful view which I recommend. Overall, I would come here again if I was in the area.

Beautiful bakery & pizza spot with indoor and outdoor seating. Friendly staff, fresh sourdough bread and donuts made to order. Their matcha was delicious and I was also very impressed with their carefully curated lunch menu!

Ordering was very easy online, even though the prices seemed a bit high. We ordered $109 worth of food...Arancini ($16), garlic bread with cheese($16), Penne al Vodka with sautéed chicken($32), and the Alfredo with chicken cutlet($38). I was expecting a lot for prices like these. The Arancini were 5 pieces the size of golf balls and the flavor was ok, not worth $16, out garlic bread with cheese ($16) was left out of our order, the penne vodka with sautéed chicken ($32) was dry and there were 5 small pieces of chicken, and the baked penne chicken Alfredo had broken sauce, full of grease and almost inedible...I threw out most of it. I expected so much more from this establishment. The parking lot was packed and parking just to get takeout was challenging, but the food and prices were amazingly disappointing. We may try their pizza to see if that is any better, but I would not recommend the pasta dishes. I can see charging g prices like that if the pasta was homemade, but even that is a stretch. 3 stars is generous

It was founded by culinary couple Johan Jensen and Abbey Hemmann. Johan is a native of Denmark while Abbey is a Connecticut native. The two met in Cape Cod and eventually got married on White Crest Beach in Wellfleet. In July 2019, the couple opened their first restaurant, Whitecrest Eatery, at the Velvet Mill in Stonington. The historic building was originally home to the American Velvet Company, which operated from 1892 to 1996. Today it is a multipurpose building that is home to a thriving community of small businesses and artist studios. The American bistro with a weekly-changing menu soon won numerous awards and accolades. By 2024, the couple opened a new restaurant in the Velvet Mill. This time they would focus on artisanal wood-fired sourdough pizza as well as sandwiches, salads, and other delicious treats. Named for the "back door" of the Velvet Mill, the pizzeria soon won its own accolades. My sons and I recently had lunch at Back Door. I've visited the Velvet Mill numerous times, but this was my first visit since Back Door opened. After looking of the menu, we all decided to order and share the "Margherita" (fresh mozzarella, basil, tomato sauce, EVOO) and the "CBR" (house ranch, bacon, chicken, mozzarella, cherry tomatoes, everything spice, lemon, dill). After ordering, we picked a table right by the pick-up window so we could watch the kitchen crew at work. Both pizzas had great crust that was crispy on the outside and yet chewy on the inside. The fresh ingredients gave the pies some rich flavors with a nice smoky finish. I really liked the "Margherita", but it was the topping combo on the "CBR" that left me really impressed. I washed everything down with a bottle of locally-produced Hosmer Mountain Birch Beer. We were all very happy with our lunch. Before leaving, my younger son had a delicious "Sea Salt Chocolate Chip Cookie". He was nice enough to offer me and my older son a bite. We were impressed with Back Door and hope to return in the future!
