I wish I could leave 10 stars! I visited for the first time and fell immediately in love. The staff was super friendly, welcoming, and helpful. Menu is extremely appealing with so many delicious choices. I had a taste for brunch so went with the breakfast Reuben. INSANE. Definitely not your typical Reuben but had all the wonderful ingredients you want. I loved the smashed tots on the bottom and their sauerkraut is so sour, tangy and fresh! The poached egg on top made it brunchy and I loved it. The sourdough bread was outstanding! I got a caramel pecan cinnamon roll to go. Perfection. Cannot wait to go back. We came for the marmalade chicken biscuit sandwich and got the Parisian grilled cheese special (brie, apple and country ham on sourdough) on the recommendation of a frequent diner who was in line behind us. Also tried the cinnamon bun on his recommendation; it was fabulous and would have been even better without the cream cheese icing, which is delicious but masks the amazing bun pastry. We were stumped by the DV8 logo so a quick search of the website provide the insight we were looking for and I'm glad we did because it made the experience that much better. I visited this new location and it is a huge step up in terms of minimalistic looks. I do miss the original location but let's face it, we are here for donuts and coffee! Same great coffee, same great donuts. I can never get enough of the maple bacon donut and my favorite coffee may always be El Diablo. I just went to DV8 for the first time for lunch and had a great experience. You order up front, get a number, and then your food is brought to you. I ordered the basil chicken on a biscuit and my friend got the best burger in town. My sandwich was so thick I could barely bite into it all, but tasted great and the biscuit was soft and buttery. The burger also was amazing. We shared a chocolate chip cookie which was really chewy and had big chocolate chunks in it. I'd love to come again and try their cinnamon rolls! read more

I want to sing praises to Mr and Ms Perez for the goodness of their hearts to create DV8 Kitchen. I didn't learn about its history and business model (from local news channels and the NYTimes) until AFTER my first visit to DV8. At that time I just enjoyed the affordable and delicious food. Now knowing its significance has just made it that much more meaningful to have in the Lexington community. DV8 was opened after the couple (owners of Saul Good) came to the realization that they have lost 13 employees to addiction over 10 years. This speaks volume to substance abuse, especially opioid addiction, in KY and nationwide. DV8 was thus born to focus on substance abuse recovery and rehabilitation. I see the results of their mission in the success of the restaurant, in the delicately prepared food and baked goods, and in the eyes of the employees. They are ALWAYS enthusiastic, greeting customer in line and tending tables with a smile. They seem genuinely happy to be working in this uplifting environment. The menu is simple but still creative. Most items are based on their homemade breads and baked goods. It's the perfect place to grab a quick breakfast or lunch. Oh and they cater breakfast too! I'm a fan of the Southern Eggs Benedict. The Orange Chicken Marmalade is sweet yet savory. My only regret is that I have yet to get on the cinnamon roll ($4) train. I love everything about DV8 and what it represents -- Life changing food," indeed. Need some more convincing? I'll first say I LOVE the mission/model for this restaurant. But the Jesus music was a real turnoff for me. Due to that alone, I won't return. My chicken salad was perfectly fine; no complaints. My friend ordered the Reuben egg sandwich, with a full two minute conversation about whether the poached egg could be well done. As in firmly cooked yolk. They said yes. It was delivered to her with not even the white cooked. She broke it open and determined she couldn't eat it. They brought her back the same plate (runny yolk still on the rest of the food) with a well cooked egg this time. The service was good. Oh, and for starters, I didn't know there were two, and we both went to different places. Seems like they need to differentiate the locations, as staff said it happens all the time. I heard about DV8 awhile back, and then my friend started going and raving about it. I finally went on a trip to Lex... And I went back again on a recent lunchtime trip there. It can get a little busy, but it's GOOD!!!!!!!!! First, the mission of this place is awesome. They employee individuals in the early stage of substance abuse recovery, giving them a second chance. Major props on that. Second, the FOOD. I've had the pimento cheese chicken sandwich and the general tso's tacos, both of which were fantastic. They bake goods in house, so get your sandwiches on a biscuit, brioche bun, or croissant. I had the tots as my side both times, and I was pleased. Also, they have massive, delicious cinnamon rolls!! Even more exciting, they have special ones (I've had a cookies & cream and a salted caramel). Andddd they have other specials, so you might spice up your meal with a special. Once you order, you'll get a number, and the staff while bring food to you. Don't forget to check out the table with a loaf of bread and a variety of butters, jam, etc. It's a perfect little snack before your meal. What a fun bonus! I can't imagine not loving this place! DV8 Kitchen is the perfect quick Sunday brunch spot. They have something on the menu for everyone, including lunch and breakfast sandwiches, salads, and breakfast sweets. I recommend coming in with a friend or two and splitting your meals so you have the chance to try a few things on the menu. I tried the burger and huevos rancheros. The burger was a generous size and was delicious with the egg, bacon, and lettuce on top. I like my patty to be seasoned a little bit more, but overall I'd give it a 4/5 stars. The huevos rancheros can be served on bread or on a southern biscuit, but I highly recommend the southern biscuit. It complements the egg, cheese, and chorizo mixture just perfectly. The cheese used on this sandwich might have been my favorite part. It was perfectly melted and you got a taste of it in every bite. I also ordered a side of tater tots, and to my surprise they were shaped like Tetris blocks! They were nice and crispy, but again could have used a little more seasoning. The food came out extremely fast (within 5 minutes of ordering), and was nice and hot when it was brought to our table. They also have a "bread bar" where you can grab a slice of homemade bread and top it with honey butter, apple butter, orange marmalade, or strawberry jam while you wait. Absolutely Fabulous spot for Breakfast in Lexington! We visited on a Sunday morning and if you can get there on the earlier side you will miss the larger crowds (basically before 10 or 11 counts as early near a college campus). Busy but service was great. Order at the counter and they will bring it to your table. There is a station with a loaf of fresh bread that you can cut a piece and smother in some honey butter or strawberry jam or apple butter. I couldn't choose so I went half and half. Bread is delicious and this can take the edge off the hunger while you wait. There is normally a special on some type of Avocado toast, which my daughter ordered. Came with bacon too and it was great! I ordered the Breakfast Tacos: Chorizo, scrambled eggs, salsa, fresh jalapeño, tortilla strips, cilantro cream on corn tortillas. Such great flavors and a huge serving! I also got a cinnamon roll to go. The tip is to give this a little zip in the microwave when you are ready to eat, and presto caramel oozes over the roll. It made a great lunch! They had some terrific looking bakery items, so many choices! I give 5 Stars for the restaurant service and food. As others have mentioned, the mission is a great add-on to what makes this place special. I got the Basil Chicken sandwich and it was very good. Creamy sauce with very good basil flavor. Cinnamon roll w/ caramel and pecans is great. Pecans taste fresh and I can tell it's from a bakery. All the bread here is better than usual, since they are a bakery. After you order, you can get fresh slices of bread for yourself while you wait for your food to come out. They have apple butter, strawberry jam, and regular butter to put on it. The apple butter was my favorite. My brother got breakfast tacos he thought were ok, next time he will get a sandwich. His wife got chicken noodle soup special. She thought it was the best. Very salty though so if you like that. As we're passing through Lexington driving from Columbus to Bowling Green, my wife suggested we try DV8. The reviews looked cool, and it's a local place with a philosophy we support, so we decided to give it a go. I'll definitely stop again when passing through! Because of the traffic on Broadway, it was a little difficult to get into the plaza where the restaurant is located. But after waging war on a couple of speed demons trying to block our entrance, we made it in. It's in a plaza with a few other small restaurants -- a sandwich shop and a pizzeria -- and next to a few other businesses. It's slightly tucked in, so look hard (or follow the line of cars going in). The inside is an open concept, with large tables in the middle and a few booths along the side. The order line starts at the back of the restaurant. If you need a restroom, they're at the very back, down a hallway to the left. As you stand in line, watch the bakers behind the glass concoct some delicious bread! I had the breakfast Reuben, which is sold all day, and my wife had the basil chicken sandwich. We both thought our food was good. She was satisfied but thought the sandwich lack a little something to give it the basil and aioli kick that she was hoping for. I thought mine was delicious -- you would not think of it as a Reuben just by looking at it, and if I were to close my eyes and taste, I would still not consider it a Reuben just by tasting it. Nonetheless, it was delicious, and I would gladly order it again any day. Based on the number of people there and the comments that I overheard others say about their food, it seems this place is doing very good business. It has good food, it is clean, and the people who work there are attentive and nice. There is ample seating inside and outside. Even the restroom was attractive and clean. Arrived on Sunday a.m. and looks like we may have beat the Sunday church rush. Order came timely. Didn't get the chance to take a pic but there is a little station next to the self serve beverage that offers patrons the opportunity to cut themselves a slice of fresh bread and choose from a variety of spreads to enjoy. Loved this! The cinnamon rolls are like a combo of a croissant and a traditional cinnamon roll. The cream cheese is well balanced...not too sweet and not too rich. The PSL cream cheese does have a hint of pumpkin in the flavor. It could've had a tad bit more for a decent pumpkin kick. Still enjoyed every bite and wished I had a couple more bites of bread to go with the slight bit of cream cheese I had left. Coffee was good and there were syrups available to choose to your liking. They even offer almond milk as an option for your creamer. If they decide to ever expand in the Elizabethtown area, they've got a future frequent guest ready and waiting.
