On our journey from Arizona to Oklahoma City and back in freezing temperatures and snow here in Amarillo Texas in February I was hungry for what Texans claim to be the best BBQ in the United States. Our options were not very big given it was only 5 degrees out and snow up to my thighs I decided I wanted to try Dyer's BBQ and I'm glad I did. This place is cute and cozy inside on a cold snowy day decorated with the Texan charm we all come to know and love. We ordered some spicy german sausage that will definitely light up the taste buds, brisket that's smoky and tender, mashed potatoes and gravy the meal came with pinto beans, coleslaw that was super good, Texas toast, potatoes salad and some apricots. Everything was very good we had to get our order to go since it was well below freezing and snowing outside and we weren't able to leave our fur babies in the truck. Was on a road trip and had to stop for some BBQ when crossing Texas so we chose Dyer's. Oh man the rib plate was pretty good value but everything tasted amazing. Onion rings were nice and crispy, potato salad was a little sweet which I love, coleslaw wasn't too wet, and the ribs were super moist and slipped right off the bone. Would certainly come back here for the ribs alone. Beans and toast also came with the plate but I didn't really enjoy those all that much as they were the most plain thing we tried. read more

The service was quick and friendly. The atmosphere is your typical red and white picnic table cloths with wooden chairs. The food was outstanding. I ordered the rib basket for $9.99. Comes with three tender juicy ribs. They don't slide off the bone, but they sure are soft. Add some of their award winning secret BBQ sauce and you got yourself a winner ! Husband and I stopped here on the way back from to CA from Missouri. Admittedly, our first choice was Tyler's bbq, as we had stopped there on the way to Missouri but they are apparently closed on mondays. We ordered the pulled pork sandwich and beans, the brisket sandwich and beans and a peach and blackberry cobbler. When we picked up the food, I accidentally dropped my container all over the floorboard. Normally, I would just scoop it and still eat it, but our drive from Missouri caused tons of dirt on the floorboard. I called back and spoke to Jennifer and ordered another sandwich, fully expecting to pay for it and she gave it to me for free and was so sweet! Minus one star for the cobbler because IMO I thought it to be more like a pie. Otherwise, sandwiches were great! Brisket had a nice Smokey flavor and the bbq sauce and slaw was excellent! Great stop for some TX BBQ! We're traveling cross country and this was the perfect pit stop. Not too far off I-40, ample parking for our moving truck/trailer. The BBQ is pretty good- normally our favorite in Amarillo, although they often run out of their delicious brisket. Taking off a star since some of the employees not masked during this COVID-19 pandemic. I asked an unmasked employee if they were required to wear a mask and he said he didn't know. Whuh? Pretty disappointing since the Governor has required in public spaces since June, 2 months ago. Lots of customers going in & out of the restaurant also unmasked. This is some good Q at a reasonable price. Im a native Texan that unfortunatley lives in Wichita Kansas the last 2 years. I was passing through Amirillo on a business trip and knew I needed some good bbq because Kansas especially Wichita doesnt cut it. Dyer's has good food, and good service. However, and it is unfortunate to have to include a however, be VERY wary of what constitutes a "special"... I chose this restaurant because of their advertised "special" of prime rib, which began after 5pm on Friday & Saturday. I was pleased to see this wasn't only a billboard, but on their "Specials" board as you walk into the lobby. Imagine my confusion that occurred when looking at the bill and noticing that the charge for the "special" was the total price in the menu. I went and asked, "isn't the Prime Rib on special?" The answer I received, "... oh, that means we are serving prime rib, not that there is a special price for it." Hey Dyer's? That's not how a "special" works. If it's on your menu, and it states on your menu the price for that item, in the restaurant industry the term "special" denotes a price reduction, the same way "on sale" is supposed to mean the same in other retail businesses. read more

The service was good but I was disappointed with the meat. I ordered the two meat plate. The sides were the best part. I loved the potato salad and the appetizer (pictured). Jalapeños stiffed with creamed corn and topped with bacon. The brisket was lean and not fresh or tender at all. The pork rib was also tough and I was completely disappointed by that. Stopped here on a Sunday night while driving cross country. First off they were open. Second, they had great carryout service so we could take along to our hotel in elk city, ok. If they're out of jarred bbq sauce, it's worth it to ask for a pint with your order. Only one kind, and it was delicious. Big tasty ribs, the best brisket sandwich and a good blackberry cobbler. Super nice carry out guy and a nice waiting area too. Really not sure why they don't have more stars, but if its a Sunday night in Amarillo Texas and you want to pick up some BBQ for your road trip, this is a must stop. Just stick with the basics. May I start with- the service & food are outstanding! What may keep us from returning are the men who are the "regulars". My husband & I visit y'all about once/ week & we enjoy sitting ay the bar. Tonight was a bit too much however. We have grown tired of these regulars acting as if WE are intruding on their territory. They throw the f****** & the gd****, and tell their stories as if we care how ***** mad they are about something. We have dealt with it because we love your bartenders, their service & your food, but tonight, my son & I were all but pushed aside as we were leaving because "they" needed our chairs. This place can get busy and the wait can be long but it's definitely worth the wait. I had the bbq rib plate with coleslaw and side salad. The ribs are very meaty and tender. My family had the brisket and he said it was very juicy and tender as well. The onion rings are the bomb! We are new to the area and this was our first Amarillo BBQ experience. Unfortunately, we were not impressed. From the front door, to the floors and menus....it was DIRTY!!!! The atmosphere is filled with dingy decor/food splattered walls and is in need of a facelift. The server was slow and unpersonable. Regardless, I was not able to enjoy my meal because I was turned off by how dirty the restaurant was. This place is a great family owned find in Amarillo. As bbq enthusiasts it's hard to find decent if not good bbq places. Dyers was delicious. I got a lite plate with jalapeño sausage and brisket. My husband got the large size chicken fried steak (typically he gets brisket but it's been so long since he has had a good fried steak). We each got potato salad and cole slaw. The potato salad was a mustard based. It was your normal potato salad. The coleslaw was excellent. I would get that side next time. Most sides are made in house. Then my plate also came with pinto bean "soup". It was bland and Luke warm. Nothing to write home about. Now let's get to the meats!!! The brisket was good but not very juicy. The jalapeño sausage was very good and had a great kick at the back of the throat on the end. Then there is the chicken fried steak! Wow. This is a must get. Soooo good. If I were to eat there again (as we passed through town) I would get the chicken fried steak, cole slaw and French fries. For our drinks my husband got sweet tea. It needed more sugar.
