Great old school bbq spot. This was my second bbq stop during my visit to Amarillo and food did not disappoint my taste buds. The friendly bartender steered me in the right direction and I ended up with Dyer's Special. My plate came loaded with brisket, ribs, coleslaw and potato salad with side plate of toast and bowl of beans. The restaurant is split into a large dinning room and a good size bar with plenty of dining tables. As a side note the one of the ladies working there has a great sense of humor and helped my wife played a practical joke on me. Well done! You get 5 additional stars for that. read more

Delicious! Stopped in today for lunch. The place was quiet. Food came out fast, and the service was good. Portions were HUGE for the price. We had ribs, catfish, chicken tenders, and fried pickles. The pickles were super thin and crispy. Catfish was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Tartar sauce was more flavorful than most- an extra tang of garlic or onion. Baked beans are not baked beans, they're salty pinto beans. They come in a 4oz cup about 2/3 full. Pork for sandwiches leaves a lot to be desired and WHO puts kosher dill slices on bbq sandwiches!? I had a wonderful visit at this restaurant. I had been here once before a couple of years ago but evidently underappreciated it. It was okay but not the cheapest in town. And I'm on a budget, both the travel budget and the senior budget. But I was in the area and decided to give it another try because it was close and I hadn't been here for a while. In spite of all the social distancing due to the coronavirus I had a wonderful experience! There was a wait to get in because they could only use about 50% of their tables but once I was seated the server took care of me right away. I decided to order a beer to go with my meal and they had one that was an expensive , $2 or $3, I can't remember. I looked over the menu and chose the light plate ribs for $10.99. No offense to any of the other BBQ places but I think these might have been the best ribs that I've had since I've been in town. Of course I think I've said that before when I've gotten good ones. These really were delicious. They give you a lot of food considering it's the light plate. I was able to order two sides plus it came with bread. Everything was delicious and it was enough that I had leftovers to enjoy the next day also. The only reason for four stars rather than five is there was one time during the evening when no one came by for a very long time. I'm one of those people that doesn't usually need anything but I was told I would receive some sauce but it never did come. I mentioned it to my server at the end and she made sure to include some with my leftovers which was great. The person that delivered my food and promised the sauce was not the same person who took my order. I still tipped well and was happy with my experience. I would also like to give a shout out to the man going around clearing the tables and cleaning them. He was right on those tables the instant people got up and left, something I have not seen a lot of recently. And he didn't just give the table a quick swipe, he thoroughly wiped it down along with the chairs as well. This was some of the most thorough cleaning in a restaurant I've seen since I started going to restaurants again during the pandemic. I was highly impressed. I recommend this restaurant with no qualms and I look forward to going back read more

Ended up here as pretty much everything else I had on my list to go to in our quick stop in Amarillo was closed on Sunday. The restaurant has a very old school vibe and decor the servers and staff were pleasant. The food unfortunately was not that good. We found it amusing that pretty much everyone dining in was dressed in their Sunday best while we were just wearing our road-trip shorts and T-shirts. Then had to wait for about 10/15min to grab our waitress to ask her if it could be cooked better. Needless to say they threw bbq sauce on it put it on the grill brought it back out in like 2minutes! This is the 3rd time we've gave this place a try cause goodness the reviews all over are just raving about this place and idk why... Terrible service! Rude people! We waited over an hour and a half for our food! While people that came in and ate and left while we while we waited! We were a party of 8 with a small child that they couldn't even sit us together! They split us up! We had to ask for bbq sauce! I ordered jalapeño sausage and got plain! We stopped at Dyers on our way from CA to TN per a friend's recommendation since it's close to the hotel we stayed at in Amarillo. The bbq brisket was sooooo yummy and it came with ALL the trimmings, not a choice of one or two and the price is so reasonable! So, on our way back we made sure to stop there again and this time we ordered to go- brisket and chopped beef and they were just as delicious!
