Groovy Tardis w/new glow in the dark hands hangs from wire fastened on the back.

I was dang diddly frustrated after getting a pricey Dr Who clock that was broken. It took forever to find replacement hands. Then I clumsily tried to put them on and hang the awkwardly built piece. The Ace on University wouldn't help me and others referred me there. The woman at Dykemans took the time to fix everything! Charged almost nothing and gave me tips about the hands and hanging the piece. She did it all while I waited. And they had WiFi. Finally the Tardis hangs proudly on my growing clock wall letting everyone know what a geek I am.

    Ticking on time. Thanks Dykman's.

They fixed my watches quickly while I waited, but kept me (and their staff) safe during the process. Awesome service.

I absolutely loved this store. I had no idea why everyone was complaining about "rude owners." Now I understand. Let's just put it this way. I've bought three different clocks from this store. Two out of the three broke within four months I'd purchase. The first one that broke, they fixed it no questions asked and did not charge me. This was about seven or eight years ago. That is what prompted me to write such a glowing review. I came back because I wanted a grandfather clock for my new place. Found a nice 6 foot grandfather clock made in 1911 that fit my budget and looked all original. I paid about $1000 for it, which in retrospect was WAY too much. But the gentleman who sold it to me told me he guarantees every one of his clocks for at least one year. I figured it was better buying a clock from a reputable store that I already knew and trusted versus trying to buy another clock on Craigslist or an antique store. Boy what a mistake. One night while I was winding it, the chain completely broke, sending both weights crashing down through the floor of the clock. Now mind you, I'm extremely OCD and very careful with my antiques. I've been collecting antiques since I was 10 years old going to garage sales and I know how to be careful around fragile things. I was winding the clock exactly how the gentleman at the store showed me how to wind it. I took it back to the store and he told me that this happens all of the time. The chains get weak over time and can often break without warning. He assured me that I was doing nothing wrong and stood by his guarantee that he'd warranty the clock for a year. I was ecstatic. Fast forward about two months. I finally get a postcard in the mail saying my clock was ready and that it's cost me $89.68 for the repairs. I was a little confused at first but thought maybe this was an honest mistake. Maybe they forgot it was warranty work - no biggie. After renting another uhaul and driving it to the shop, I saw the clock had been repaired and it was ready to go. He led me to the counter and asked me to pay the $89 for the repair. I reminded him that I bought this clock less than a year ago and was told they would guarantee it. Suddenly his tone changed and I saw his true colors. He told me that "the warranty covers a lot - sometimes $300-400 of work" but that he wasn't going to cover it because the of what I had "done to it" claiming the clock was "abused." He claimed that I had "yanked on the chain too hard" which caused the chain to break. Wow. Wow. Wrong choice of words sir. I had NOT abused the clock. I was very careful when winding it, making sure to follow every single instruction they gave me to ensure the clock would stay in its original condition. I'm very careful with my old things and I spent over a grand on that clock and treasured it. For him to come to me and tell me I abused the clock? But when I assured him I did not abuse the clock, he replied "I've been repairing clocks for 51 years and I know when a clocks been abused. I cautioned him that his store has countless negative reviews online and that he should consider changing his attitude. He simply replied "well I'm already so busy with the business I'm getting so I don't really need any more business." Fine. I came back the next day to talk it over with him once more. Once again, he was rude, patronizing, straight up called me an idiot for not knowing how to wind the clock properly. I asked him why this wasn't explained to me when I bought the clock, he insinuated that I lacked common sense and intelligence. He claimed I "threatened him" and kept talking as if he believed I was going to take him to court. I told him I'd just get my clock repaired over at Brumley's from now on. He bad mouthed that business and seems to think he's a god when it comes to clock repair. He said this is basically a hobby for him and that he doesn't care how he treats customers. I won't be returning ever again. I hope this place rots to the ground. There are FAR better places to get clocks repaired. In terms of purchasing them, buy at your own risk. You may end up with a lemon that has not been cared for while it's been withering away in this dusty old shop. There are other places to get clocks - even if you have to drive to another city. It's worth it to avoid the headache I've been put through.

We originally came here four years ago for my engagement ring and had a good experience, but this…read morereview is about my service and repairs recently. I went to the store with a broken watch (unknown problem), a ring to be resized larger, and my engagement ring for cleaning and inspection. I worked with Raymond who made the whole experience so lovely. He fixed my watch in 5 minutes, inspected my ring and put it in the cleaner right away, then helped me to place a resize order and everything was so efficient, I was stunned. The battery repair in the watch was so fast! Then he said I could get the ring within 24 hours?? We also looked at settings for a loose stone I have and I had a lovely time in the store. It's a great shopping and customer experience at this location. Highly recommend!

So, we trekked across the street to Jared, and let's just say that the grass is definitely greener on the other side. (: The customer service at Jared is fantastic. As soon as we walked through the door (which is actually quite intimidating, given the scale of the store), we were greeted by one of the employees. I wish I remembered her name, because she was fabulous! She patiently waded through an entire selection of diamond bands with us...and then put up with our girly squealing over how great our new baubles looked! :D She also offered great suggestions in terms of sizing/styles/etc of the pieces we were considering. Additionally, I love that they do ring-sizing in-store. My friend and I both needed our rings re-sized, and we were able to pick up our rings in the SAME day - after only putting in the re-sizing request 3 hours prior. HOW AWESOME IS THAT?? All in all, Madison's Jared branch is great! It also helps that they have a refreshment corner where they offer coffee, tea, and hot cocoa. It makes jewelry shopping that much better when you have something warm sloshing around in your belly. (: I don't have any qualms about purchasing another piece of jewelry from Jared, and I'm hoping to put my $100 reward in to good use before February!!
