I went to Gruno's for a simple battery replacement on a dress watch that has sat in my desk drawer for 5 years. Never have I been treated so respectfully and graciously at a jewelry store as I have here. The people at Gruno's took their time while they worked on my watch to show me various items they had in stock, despite not being in the market for a purchase. Laurel and Meagan (hopefully spelling is correct) took their time to show me several watches across multiple styles and price ranges, as well as men's bracelets made from dinosaur bones (?!?) and gentlemen's knives. It's obvious to me that their customer service, attention to detail, and genuine kindness are the drivers for their business. I would not hesitate to return. Stopped in to Grunos to try on a couple of GMT Master IIs last Saturday. I must say, their display models were FAR more expansive than I had expected. Each and every model I hoped to try on was there and available to try. Jason, our sales associate, was so helpful. As a watch nerd, it goes a long way to get to enjoy looking at pieces with someone who shares my enthusiasm. He walked me through a few models and told me some little facts that I had never known about the brands they offer and their respective histories. The model I was after on the Rolex side was not up for sale just yet, but this Hamilton had been on my list for awhile so I left with that instead. I've been on a list for Rolex at Gruno's Diamonds for almost a year, not one call on anything. Being the only Rolex AD in madison this is extremely disappointing. I've had better luck walking into watches of Switzerland at both Vegas and mall of America locations. I have found my new go-to place for all things watch and jewelry: Gruno's Diamonds. Their people and service are wonderful. First, the back story: A month ago, I took my Seiko Perpetual Calendar wristwatch to Dykman's to get the battery replaced and the calendar reset. Dykman's had my watch for a week or so, and charged me approximately $60. After leaving their shop I noticed the calendar was out of sync. (Perpetual calendar functions are tricky to set, and require tools I don't have, so I brought it right back to Dykman's.) The woman at Dykman's apologized, and kept it for another week. She said there would be no additional charge, because it should have been done the first time. When I came to pick it up again, I checked the date before leaving their store. I immediately saw the date was still wrong. I showed the woman, who looked irritated. She took the watch into the back room (I presume to where the repair person was). She came back out 30 seconds later, handed me the watch, and said the repair person followed Seiko's specs to the letter, so the watch must be broken. (No refund was offered, and I didn't ask for one.) Frankly, my confidence in Dykman's was severely damaged so when I drove by Gruno's this morning, I figured I'd get a second opinion. Brian and the rest of the folks at Gruno's were a breath of fresh air! Gruno's watch smith (who previously was an instructor at Rolex!) opened up my Seiko and immediately recognized the problem: the person who had changed the battery had inadvertently damaged the circuit board with his/her tweezers. (Evidently this is a common mistake, and he has seen it frequently.) The bad news is if I want this fixed, I'll need to send the watch to Seiko, and it will cost as much as $300. As you might imagine, I'm a little upset that I took a watch that was working perfectly to Dykman's for a new battery, paid them $60, and received this expensive headache. The silver lining to this experience is that I've found a shop that is trustworthy and competent: Gruno's. The folks there are very kind; they didn't even charge me for opening the watch, identifying the issue, and cleaning he inside thoroughly. (I probably shouldn't have been surprised that Dykman's didn't even blow the dust out.) TL;DR summary: Gruno's Diamonds is outstanding. I'd been eyeing up a Submariner for a couple years. Finally got the courage to go look and try them on. Brad was very helpful, was straight with me that there usually is quite a wait and gave me realistic expectations that it could be several months. This was in January so I was ready to be patient for up to a year. March comes and Brad calls saying they got the model in I was looking for and I could pick it up. I took my heirloom wedding rings (which were soldered together) to Gruno's Diamonds to be resized and repaired after the doctor cut them off when my fingers swelled over the summer. I was referred to Gruno's by my nephew who had the same thing happen to him over the summer. He took his wedding ring to Gruno's and they did a great job repair and resizing his ring. My nephew worked with Brad at Gruno's so he suggested I go there. I had already been to two other jewelers who said they could not resize my rings because they were old and the gold was too thin. So I went to Gruno's and asked for Brad. The entire staff at Gruno's was great, Brad in particular. He scrutinized the ring and said he was sure they could resize it. Within a week, my rings were done. They went above and beyond by adding gold to thicken the shank and built up the gold on all the prongs and channels so no diamonds would be loose or lost. Interesting how Gruno's had no issue with my rings while two other jewelers claimed they could not resize my rings. How very strange. Gruno's saved the day for me. I have my rings back in better shape than ever. I cannot say enough great things about them. Gruno's is our jeweler from now on. We won't go anywhere else now. read more

WHAT A NIGHTMARE!! I was recently engaged for one week and my ring was about a half a size too big. I was looking for a place that sizes rings in house but I did not want to mail it somewhere. I stopped into the grunos on the west side of madison just to ask and get an estimate and WOW. The woman working was EXTREMELY RUDE. One woman said they couldn't size my ring because of the design and this lady yelled at her to get away and then took over and said they could. By then I was checked out because I already didn't trust them with my ring. She asked me where I got it and scolded me for not getting it with them WHEN IT WAS MY FIANCE WHO GOT THE RING WHY THE HECK WOULD I HAVE A SAY IN THIS?!?!? (no wonder he didn't get it from here). She blamed MY FIANCE for not having the right size... WAS HE GOING TO CHOP MY HAND OFF AND BRING IT IN SOMEWHERE??? She then yelled at me because "if I would have come in a hour earlier they could have done it" and I told her it's fine I'm not in a rush I've only been engaged a week and still have people to tell and would come back. meanwhile she kept yelling at her Co worker and being super rude to her Co worker who actually was nice to me and wasn't doing anything wrong. She kept blabbing and I told her I couldn't come in the times she was suggesting. (like most people, I have a job too). She got so mad about this for some reason and was throwing her hands across the counter at me because I didn't want to leave my ring with her. Some other person was looking at it and I had to ask 6 times to get my ring back. I finally got it and i told her she was a maniac and that I will GLADLY take my money ANYWHERE BUT HERE. BEWARE PEOPLE!!! DO NOT SHOP HERE OR GET SERVICES HERE!!! they not only are inconsistent with what they tell you from one person to another, but they are in a quick rush to make someone who got newly engaged cry their way out the store!!
