Appetizer: Cigar Börek - Crispy phyllo rolls stuffed with cheese and parsley, served with garlic sauce. Absolutely dynamite!!! Crispy, cheesy, and addictive. My dish: Alinazik Kebab - Grilled lamb over sauced grilled eggplant and yogurt, served with salad and bread. The lamb was insanely flavourful and delicious. I wasn't a fan of the mashed eggplant though (which surprised me because I usually love eggplant). It was okay, just not my thing this time. My husband's dish: Ground Beef Pide - Savoury flatbread topped with seasoned ground beef, fresh herbs, and sesame seeds. This was excellent -- super tasty and satisfying. My son's drink: Ayran - A traditional salty yogurt drink with mint. Not a hit with him Too salty and sour for his taste, but we appreciated the experience of trying something new. The servers kindly brought him a Coke instead and didn't charge us, which was really nice. My son's dinner: Adana Kebab (spicy) - Skewered spicy ground beef with rice, bulgur, salad, and bread. We came here on a Saturday night with reservations. They have a big screen as well as a live music later in the night. Dolma and borek - both were pretty standard and not bad. But I wouldn't get it again next time Urfa kebab - this was my favourite. The beef is super flavourful and soft. I love both rices in all of the dishes. The bread was also strangely addicting. Would DEFINITELY recommend this dish Lamb sis kebab - the lamb wasn't super lamby which is good for people who are scared of the lamb flavoyr. It was a bit chewy and dry. Ordered the spicy beef Adana ($24)which was really good! Comes with 2 flavourful and juicy kebabs with a huge portion of rice (I barely ate half). The bread was HARD though. Could barely stab it with a fork. Shared a Kunefe ($16) as well, which was on the small side. Served warm, could've been a bit crispier. Huge restaurant, looks like they host wedding/event from looking at the other reviews. On a Thursday night, only 3 tables were filled, so majority of the restaurant is empty. I came here on a Sunday for the Turkish breakfast which spanned several variations of eggs and simit ranging from $14-$18 (the main part of the dish is the simit bread and I would've liked some more vegetables in the meal). The decor was quaint and I liked that some tables had floor cushion seating! For me, what stood out was the cheese borek which was exceeded my expectations in cheesiness, the kunefe dessert also followed a similar style except also being covered in pistachios and a sweet syrup. I also liked the dish ware the Turkish tea was served in! The server was kind and answered all our questions though once it got busier, having only one server to manage all the tables wasn't enough. Reading the good reviews online a group of us went to Saray. The first disconnect was our group reservation was missing. A flurry of discussion and a table was eventually found. The floor was littered with food and the table had sticky residue which had not been cleaned. The ambiance was dark and gloomy and the furniture definitely substandard. The food was served promptly and was enjoyed by all. A visit to the washroom in this restaurant was an eye opener. They say you can judge a restaurant by the condition of the washrooms. For the prices they charge and the experience, one would wonder about the hygiene in the kitchen after seeing the washrooms. Not going back there for sure. read more

I was impressed with the platter and appies she ordered so I decided to introduce this place to my friends and we went to dine in. Big mistake! Upon walking in, you'll notice the restaurant is dark and gloomy. The female servers didn't acknowledge us but the male host was friendly enough and brought us to a table in the corner and gave us menus. After that they completely forgot about us. It took me way too much effort to get the server's attention, and when she finally came to take our order, she didn't write it down, which always worries me. We ordered 3 mains, 2 appies and drinks, and of course 1 of our appies never came. manti: I really liked this appie. The dumplings were very light and I liked the yogurt-butter-garlic sauce. cigar borek: comes with a blob of garlic butter to dip the cigar in. It was nice to try, but it was plain and I would not order it again. platter: the mix platter (Saray special for 4) is great for sharing and the meat had a lot of flavour. It came with an assortment of meat, rice, salad, a grilled tomato and bread. lamb chop: comes with 6 pieces of lamb and is on the pricier side, but the lamb is cooked to perfection. beef kebab: like all their plates, it comes with rice, bread and salad. The beef was a bit too chewy and wasn't as flavourful as the other meat dishes we ordered. chicken donair on rice: a deconstructed donair. Looks like the old Socrates (Greek place; they've now moved near Hastings & Willingdon) is now a Turkish place. Parking is available on Hastings, as well as the side streets. The inside looks a bit like a rug store, with the fancy colourful patterns. Certain parts of it still look Greek from the past incarnation, but whatever. There are some speakers and a few large TVs near the back. Guessing this is for karaoke nights. Most of the seating is the conventional type, but there are some traditional style booths (floor cushions and low tables) as well. Staff were friendly. The mixed platter donair platter contains both shredded beef and chicken. Comes with a piece of bread (bun?), a blob of garlic butter, some (tomato based?) diping sauce, a grilled tomato, and some salad. Ordered joojeh from Non and Reynoon, take out only operating out of Saray, it's an Iranian catering available only during the afternoon. I was nearby at Burnaby Mountain Park. It comes with rice w/ a touch of saffron, grilled tomato, raw onions, lemon slice and mint. The chicken was grilled but slightly overcooked and dry, not as juicy but enjoy supporting local places. I've been looking for joojeh replacement since Zeitoon closed but Burnaby is far from me. They charged $0.50 for a brown paper bag as one gets charged when you order through a delivery app, even though I had my own bag but it helped to keep the foil platter horizontal. The joojeh was priced well for the quantity of food, as had leftovers and had it with yogurt to digest it. If I lived closer, would order again. read more

There's a dance floor and a stage for entertainment. Staff were friendly and food was amazing. The beef was tender, juicy and tasty. A bit of pricey and was surprised they charge $15 per person as Music fee. I would like to give special thanks to our head hostess, Ms. Mina, who was very kind to us, and also to all the staff at the restaurant who treated us with kindness, warmth, and patience. I would also like to give special thanks to the restaurant's amazing musician, Mr. Cener (I hope I spelled his name correctly), who, on a holiday, performed 80s and 90s songs for us, making our night unforgettable. The Music is good and food is reasonably priced but the service is leaving miles to be desired. They ignored our table for an extended amount of time after we were sat at our reservation, then asked our daughter to get off the dance floor when she was enjoying and respecting the space. We joined this restaurant for the New Year Dinner and were told to pay a flat fee of $110 each. We had absolutely no extras, but the total bill before tips came to $253. This restaurant has poor quality food, sub-standard service and and worse of all they rip you off with illegal charges such PST on food (I see other reviews also complain about the same thing but the management is not doing anything about it). Even their name on the invoice does not match the restaurant's name. Our invoice says Tulipa Club Turkish Restaurant but the restaurant is called Saray (what would be the reason for such an obvious and important discrepancy?). Really great take out! We ordered through door dash and were extremely satisfied with our large order, which included the meze platter, saray for 4 platter, boreks, and pide. The grilled meats had good flavour and everything seemed fresh and carefully prepared. The meze platter was my favourite - so many different tastes and textures. Below you will find a great read about a very negative experience I had and posted on Google reviews and tripadvisor, followed up with the owners ignorance and defamation of character towards my girlfriend from the Google review posted. I'm not sure how the owner can state she knows the cover charge price is $10 and not $5 like the menu says when SHE HAD NEVER BEEN THERE BEFORE!! FIRST TIME!!! Also he argues $10 is nothing to talk about as per his comment at end of story. It is when they state $5 on the menu and then charge $10 per person and argue that that's what your going to pay, that's theft. Also the liqour and Tabacco board is involved for the vaping allowed at tables, and your own outside liqour brought in to consume at your table, they were very curious to hear this. Consumer review: I joined the girlfriend and her siblings for her brothers birthday at this location, never again for any occasion. Our server brought us to our table for four guests, there were only three chairs, to me that says very unprepared and unprofessional with the solution provided to us... steal one from another reserved table and we will fix that table later, in which they didn't, I watched the next group of gentlemen have the same issue I did at the table I was directed to take a chair from. We sat for 20 minutes before we had to wave our server down to ask for drink orders. And when she did bring the drinks, she forgot one of the beers which isn't hard when only 2 drinks are ordered LMAO. Also, again... we had to wave her down for every drink refill, waited almost an hour before asking if the four of us can order food now. Now the real let down in today's customer service, they charge what there menu states on back cover of menu... $5 for entertainment fee per person which isn't a bad COVER CHARGE for the entertainment provided, even though you couldn't hear yourself think let alone talk to anyone at your table, but when the bill comes, they charge an extra $10 per person. I approached our server with the discrepancy and her answer was "hehe its an old menu" soooo that $10 per person is what you have to pay. I tried having the introductory level of "customer service conversation" with her but she was still insisting on making there mistake and misinformation the customers problem. With no wiggle room from there staff, we were all left no choice to pay this unexpected larger fee which the server can use for her tip as she was not allotted any more than what the bill noted. One of the worst dining experiences I've had in a very long time. We came to celebrate a friends birthday. It was a large group and I felt bad for the server who should have been helped by the manager who just stood at the front most of the time. The service was quite slow and food was bland and the dolmas were the saltiest I've ever tasted. We had 4 tables and the food came out 45 minutes apart. One person at our table had to cancel the order because we had finished our meals before hers was even served. We asked for ice on several occasions and were told there was none. We were also informed that we had 1 choice for beer or white or red wine. We noticed martini glasses hanging at the bar but they must just be for decoration. There were no options or prices listed on the menu for the liquor. I was quite shocked to find out that the sub-par wine that we ordered was $15 glass. Saray Turkish Cuisine is not some 5 star restaurant in Yaletown - at least you know what you're getting when you go there and you have options. When I spoke to manager asking about the wine price he claimed it was imported from Turkey and refused to show the bottle that they poured from. The manager was quite condescending and patronizing. There are far better Turkish restaurants in the lower mainland and they will have my business. As for the entertainment, we were told there would be belly dancers but there were none. There was a singer and she was good but it was extremely loud. We couldn't even hear each other speak, even though we were sitting inches from each other. My partner has worked in the hospitality industry for 15 years and neither one of us have experience such poor management and execution for a restaurant such as this. We love supporting local mom and pop shops and restaurants but the level of service we received was disgraceful. read more

We were there on a Saturday night and about 15min before we were finished an accordionists took the stage. Was a nice way to finish the meal despite a Turkish player, in a Turkish restaurant playing Russian music. The real disappointment was when we received our bill. Must to our surprise our party of 3 was charged $5 per person "music fee." When we inquired about this we were told because they provided music on Fri and Sat night. The server then explained when they have their liquor licence it would make more sense. This charge is not explained anywhere. It was not posted, was not explained when we sat down or on their menu. This charge is more of a cover charge than a fee. It is unethical and a bad business model. Entertainment should bring new customers in. Not do what it has, prevented us from going back! read more

Food is so-so. The Humus and Haydari appetizers were tasty. For dinner, we ordered the Saray platter for four. The pictures of the platter on their website look delicious, but the food was dry and lukewarm. For example, the platter arrived on a large cookie sheet that they were able to place right on top of the plastic tablecloth. The skewers and doner were dry and disappointing! I think they might have the platters sitting around in the kitchen just waiting to go out. If you go on a Friday or Saturday night, you get a surprise $5 per head charge for entertainment (accordion player and a singer). The $5 is not posted on their menu or mentioned in the restaurant.
