I was not thrilled with the food. Pricing wasn't bad but for the quality and taste of the food it wasn't worth it. Meatballs tasted like they came out of a soup can for kids and the pasta sauce was watery. The seafood itself was good and the amount given in the bowl was great. Desert was not good. Cheesecake or lava cake. Lava cake was dry and wasn't a real lava cake. Bottom line: 2 hours, no food, no social distancing in takeout. Small room with no ventilation. Not limiting the number of people who can be inside pickup area at once. Picked up an order for chicken parm., seafood rodizio, cavatelli & broccoli, chicken noodle soup, flounder on Thursday, 9/3/20. Had not had E&V for awhile and was looking forward to it. So disappointed. Rodizio was over-cooked; like mush, soup was so salty I discarded it. On a good note the chicken parm., cavatelli and flounder were all good. Also, the portions are great. A friend told me about this restaurant before so I finally decided to try it after seeing the excellent reviews on Yelp. I decided to go with take-out and would possibly take my family if I loved it. Well, I ordered a side of meatballs with penne vodka. Wow I really didn't expect to find a maggot in my vodka sauce. I was absolutely disgusted. I ordered late - about 9:00 PM and by the time I got home...sat and ate it was already after 10:00 PM. The reviews were 100% right about the portions. I got a huge portion of disgusting-ness. 4.5 Stars If you're looking for classic NJ Italian; look no further. The portions are huge and the service is welcoming. Every meal starts with warm, fresh bread and unfortunately cold hard butter. (Hint: Want that 5th star E&V???) Any of the antipasti, shellfish, and anchovies (that's right) make great appetizers to share. The prosciotto and fresh mozzerella isn't the best you can find but it's still good and again they don't skimp on the portions. All of the salads are well dressed which is hard to say for most places. I usually get the Veal/Chicken parm as an entree with linguini. Every component is great here: crispy edged, pan fried Veal/Chicken cutlets; "just chunky enough" red sauce, which isn't over/under seasoned; good quality mozzerella (not fresh mozz here); and lastly al dente pasta, TOSSED NOT TOPPED with red sauce. My only knock is on my most recent visit there was a good deal of watery sauce in my linguini (which comes on the side so no harm). It was a quick fix for the kitchen and waitstaff to handle. I've been coming to this place for over 25 years and I have not lived in Jersey for over 20 years! It is a MUST stop in and eat type of place for me and my sister who now live in Florida. The staff has been there forever and even remember me. I craved it so bad during a pregnancy 16 years ago that one of my sister's went to them over 16 years ago and explained how much I wanted their chicken park that the lady who helped her sent everything wrapped separately so that my sister could travel with it and keep it fresh for me!! My family and I have been going to this place for years. The food is absolutely phenomenal every time we go. The fried calamari and chicken parmigiana are my favorites. We recently had relatives over and we got a few things catered: eggplant rollatini, chicken marsala, tilapia francese, and penne vodka. Everyone raved about it. The service there is also great. Herman and Eddie are some of the most friendly servers/people you will ever meet. Only a couple times throught the 20 years we have been going there has our food been a little bland. When you go to any restaurant for that long, you are bound to get a dish that could use a litte more seasoning. But if you are anywhere near this establishment, you have to give it a try. read more

This place is definitely outdated but that's not what attracts me to a restaurant. The servers were extremely warm and friendly. For starters I had the filet bruschetta I must say that the salad was better than the steak. For dinner I had chicken & shrimp parm & it was perfectly cooked. The shrimps were huge & crisp. I went for a birthday party with my family of 16. The hostess was extremely rude and so was our old waitress. The bus boy was very kind and helpful. The food is overrated and the establishment very small and outdated. I will never go there again. I can be treated badly for a lot less money. Definitely NOT worth my time. Where to start with E and V. I have been coming here for the past twelve years. I have never had a bad experience here. The place is small but has old world charm. Waiters Herman and Eddie always take care of us and do a great job. Only these guys have waited on us. Its a casual place. A pair of jeans and a nice polo are fine. The food , I highly doubt that you will find much fault in any of the dishes prepared and as as portions are concerned this place is it. Large almost family style sizes. My usual order. The fried calamari along with the stuffed mushrooms. Calamari is cooked well, not chewy . one order is enough for four. The stuffed mushrooms. one of the best mushrooms i have had and i do try them everywhere, they are done perfect. 8 - 15 mushrooms. My entree of choice is the Veal modenese. I rarely do not order this when i come here. Four to five large pieces of lightly breaded veal topped with prosciutto and fresh mozzarella in a marsala wine reduction. Comes with a side of pasta or salad. I always choose the penne with vodka sauce, think the sauce is a dollar up charge but come on really? Pay for it , totally worth it. Always order house merlot full carafe. When all is said and one its time for the dessert. There are plenty of choices but i opt for the cannoli and cappuccino. The way i have finished meals here forever. I recommend this place to everybody. Always on point . Your not going to have to worry about consistency here. My family and I have eaten at this restaurant for years. It used to be hands down the best Italian restaurant we'd ever been to. It has declined a bit in the last few years but its still much better than your average fare. Still, it is the best value for money around. We get take-out usually and 2 dishes are enough to feed a family of 4 small Asian people. Sometimes they throw in extras like a free salad. Prices are extremely reasonable and food great. This is a childhood favorite, and because of that it almost doesn't even matter what I eat- its always good. I love the gnocchi, but more than that I love the true Italian feel... and the fact that this place has been there forever. This place was great 20 years ago, however nowadays it's really REALLY bad, I had the eggplant rollatini and it was honestly inedible. I tried everyones food on the table and there was only one good plate and it was chicken Parm... which to me is impossible to mess up.. my mother had some kind of shrimp plate which tasted like poop I swear to god it tasted like shit it was horrible... we were told a couple days later that the restraraunt has been losing a lot of money so they have been getting poor quality food which makes so much sense.. do yourself a favor SAVE YOUR MONEY DO NOT COME HERE read more
