I goofed and hit my garage which knocked the bottom roller off the track. I tried fixing it myself and made it worst to where my garage was stuck. At 7:30AM I called Tomys Garage Door and they had a technician swing by at 9AM. The technician, David, was very thorough and managed to put the roller back onto the track in a few minutes. He also replaced 2 garage door struts with new door brackets. In total, the David was at my place for around 30 minutes. He also was very informative and educating me about the garage. Apparently my effort to fix the garage myself could have been very bad, so I recommend to let the professionals handle this. David also applied Garage Door Lube free of charge and taught me how to do it (which is pretty easy). Now my garage opens/closes much quieter due to the lube. My garage door lock broke. I checked yelp for a 5 star company, selected Tomys and received a promise to be out the next day despite that being Sun. When nobody showed, I called and was told their repair van was down for service but they would be out Mon. The technician arrived at the end of the 2 hour appt window. He replaced the broken lock. I asked him to adjust the spring tension as the door had been increasingly hard to open. He said the springs were old and He would adjust them but they would likely break within a year. I saw no obvious wear but deferred to his professional judgement. He put on the springs but then pointed out the rod has some rust and he said I needed to replace that or it could break. I agreed to his putting in a new rod. I had been given an estimate of $250 for a new lock. The technician punched various items into his device and blithely stated I owed him $1200. His card reader wasn't working so I would have to pay in cash or with a check. He said they would send an itemized receipt to my email. I was wondering if I had been scammed into unnecessary, over priced repairs. I never received an email copy for the work and its charges. I reached out to Tomys this morning leaving a message that I was displeased with their service and would be writing a negative review. My call was ignored. My conclusion is my suspicion that I was the victim of a disreputable technician was justified. I strongly recommend anyone checking reviews before hiring look further. He was late due to traffic but still arrived during the time of day I had requested - wasn't a huge deal for me. He fixed a broken garage spring and a functional spring I felt was probably in need or replacement as well. Probably took 40 minutes and everything was working again. Very nice guy.
