E-tang is delicious!!! Everything I had was a standout!!! I loved the flavored sake and especially the shrimp dumplings!!! The service is fine, they take care of you and keep your water full. The restaurant can feel a bit crowded but it's worth it for the food! We went on a Saturday night and had to wait for our table even though we had a reservation, but like I said it was still worth it for the food! The food is all shareable and the table spins so you can easily share with your friends and family. I didn't enjoy that it was crowded but just to reiterate, it was all worth it for the food! We spent 2 nights in Savannah and decided to move away from Southern cuisine and tried E Tang. My girlfriend is Chinese and she wanted her comfort food and I discovered E Tang while searching YELP and read the reviews and decided to surprise her. E Tang did not disappoint. We enjoyed authentic Asian cuisine served in a very comfortable and tastefully decorated interior. It is inside the small strip mall and there is parking available in the small parking lot. Our servers were friendly and my girlfriend was most happy to converse in Chinese about the menu and confirm her choices. We enjoyed our dinner so much we returned for lunch before we left two days later. My girlfriend gave it a 4.8 out of 5. If you like authentic Chinese food, home made dumplings and wonderfully prepared dinners (spicy and not spicy), be sure to visit E Tang. It was a 15 minute walk from our Bay Street hotel. read more

Ordered the spicy chicken and extra spicy and the dish was bland and tasteless with just the hint of maybe cumin which is weird because it is not cumin chicken. The combo green bean/eggplant was also tasteless and the heat on the wok wasn't hot enough so the whole dish lacked any kind of aroma. I don't think I've ever given a Chinese restaurant that isn't an American Chinese restaurant 2 stars before but this one earned it. Giving it a 2 stars because the wait help was nice. If you are looking for authentic spicy western Chinese food, this is not the place for you. read more

My friend recommended this Chinese spot for authentic Chinese food and I have to say it's good. The plain looking shopping center is deceiving for how good the food is here. E-Tang serves a variety of Chinese dishes ranging from cold noodles to Mapo Tofu. Note that the Mapo Tofu is very NUMBINGLY spicy which I enjoy. We ordered quite a bit and it was refreshing having some variety of good Chinese options here. White rice is complimentary and free. Mapo Tofu: Literally fire. Love how spicy this gets. Can't complain at all because this is the exact flavor that I'm looking for. Dan Dan Noodles: These are the wheat noodles topped with pork bits, and I enjoyed this carb-loaded option because it's nice on a cold day. The warm noodles go down well when adding anything like meat or tofu in it. Cold spicy chicken: very authentic, it's not for everyone if you don't want cold chicken but nice to add to your noodles. If you like some tongue tingling, lip numbing mapo tofu, this is the place for you! It was heavy on Sichuan peppercorns. We also ordered spicy crunchy chicken and the plate had more dried red chillies than chicken. Food was not bad but I docked off a star bc of the service. We came on Xmas day so I expected some chaos but figured since we had made reservations it wouldn't be too bad. They had make shift tables set up outside and asked us to sit there. Had I known we would have been forgotten out there I would have declined sitting outside. There was a party of 4 that had reservations 15 mins after us that got sat inside. After an hour of waiting for our food I went inside and saw that party already had their food and was eating. This is when I knew they just completely forgot about us since we were outside. I was pretty annoyed since we had just flown in that day and our kids were tired and hungry. So if they try to sit you outside the restaurant just say no because they will completely forget about you. read more

Observed build-up on shelving around the facility and on shelving in walk-in cooler. Observed build-up of food debris inside reach-in coolers and freezers. I've had a lot better Chinese food. The food was just okay. We got the spicy chicken and the Mongolian beef. Be mindful of the sichuan peppercorns used in the spicy chicken, it has the mouth numbing sensation that some people like- I am not too keen on that. The Mongolian beef was more sauce-y than sticky, and I think I prefer my Mongolian beef with a sticky glaze than a liquid sauce. The flavor was really good though! The portions are huge, and it does get a little busy on Friday evenings. May go back again to try the soup dumplings and have more of the plum wine. read more

The most incredible Chinese food I've had in my entire life. I will be thinking about this meal for lo no time. This restaurant alone could make me want to move to Savannah. Food: Chicken soup dumplings - the reason I came. Fresh, hot, flavorful and paired well with the chili oil on every table. This was perfect dish for a chilly night. Chicken lo mein - truly the best I've ever had. Savory, rich flavor with crisp vegatables, tender chicken, and thick noodles. My friend and I were definitely starting to fight over this. Crispy spicy chicken - when I ordered this, the server warned me it was really spicy. It is indeed really spicy which I enjoyed but if you aren't comfortable with heat I'd avoid. The chicken was really crispy yet moist. Pan fried pork dumplings - the came out hot and crispy. The flavor was great but I would have appreciated a larger portion of the dipping sauce. Beef bao - this was a bit of a let down. The bao dough had a really great texture but the beef itself lacked flavor. It was much improved by soy sauce and chili crisp but I wouldn't order again. Service: We came in on a Tuesday night in January. I expected it to be busy based on reviews. We waited about 10 minutes before being seated. Our server delivered our menus and quickly took our drink orders. He was very friendly and attentivecl considering how busy they were. Ambiance: The best thing about this place is the smell. We choose to eat early on Christmas Evening. Had a 5:30 reservation. We were seated at 6;00 but not served until 7:30 and one of our 4 entrees never came. It was the worst service I have ever experienced. It was not our server's fault. The kitchen was clearly overwhelmed . AND there were 25 people in a take out line. They were being served before in house guests. The management clearly needs to rethink how to improve service on such a holiday. I will never go there again!!!! read more

Very authentic sichuan cuisine. The chef is from Chengdu. All flavors are reminiscent of those you'd find throughout Sichuan province, although not as spicy. Parking is easy and abundant. There are several cozy and quiet booths. Service is very laid back. You can order by scanning a QR code and choosing dishes. Food here is authentic and amazing. They have a wide variety of options for everyone. Service was also great and the food all came out quickly and hot. I'm a sucker for a good soup dumpling and these were delicious! The garlic cucumber were refreshing and good addition to any meal. The bao buns had a good sear on the bottom that added to the flavor. My friend, who is Chinese and from Beijing and in Savannah as a student at SCAD, recommended this restaurant highly so we tried it out and I'm very glad we did. The food is quite authentic Sichuan cuisine and served in an informal but becoming atmosphere with a touch of nostalgia with its classic Chinese lanterns, abundant use of red, and comfy booths. The location may be slightly hard to find by the way: it's inside the same plaza as Screamin' Mimi's but back in the center portion of it. I didn't even realize this, but in the center of this tiny shopping plaza is a door that leads to an interior atrium and off that there are four or five businesses with E-Tang being in the very rear. So you have to pay attention, it would be easy to miss its location. We had cold cucumber salad, eggplant in garlic sauce, a chicken dish (I forget its name), and cumin beef. The cumin beef was my favorite but really, everything was delicious and again, my friend is actually from China and felt the same. He and I both cook a great deal too, and mostly Asian cuisines so we're much more harsh in our critiques of restaurants than I suspect are most customers, yet here we were extremely impressed. Is the diversity of dishes as broad as you'd find in China? No, and they expectedly and understandably do focus very much on standard ones, but everything we had was first-rate. My husband and I came here for some delicious food and we were not disappointed! We were lucky to get a parking spot in the parking lot and we're very happy we didn't have to park on the street! It is located in a shopping center and when you go through the doors it is like a little area with doors to other businesses and you just need to go to the door with E-Tang on it. We were seated quickly and we absolutely loved the decor inside. We decided to have the shrimp soup dumplings and they were amazingly good! My husband got the chicken lo mein and I got the broccoli chicken and we absolutely loved our dishes! They are big enough to share and take home leftovers! We are their very first customers! It's their soft opening day. I'm thrilled that Savannah finally has a pretty authentic Sichuan restaurant. I love the whole fish dish--whole fish is one of the golden standards to measure a Chinese restaurant chef's skills. They aced it. The vegetable dish we ordered--cabbage with clear noodle--is better than expected. Its subtle savory flavor well balances other spicier dishes. The cold noodle is average mainly due to its texture--a bit too soft, but the flavor is spot on. The beef with bamboo shoots is a surprise. If you want something that looks spicy but not spicy at all, try this one! Overall, my first impression of this place is very good. I especially like the inside decor. When I walked in, it was a nice surrounding, not too lit, but it gave you a comfortable feeling. The parking can be a little iffy though. There is a parking lot off of Price street you can go to or drive down Houston Street and park on right side of road. I took my order to go for 3 people. Still have a ton left over for tonight and tomorrow. I had braised pork, prawns with walnut and coconut sauce, and a bunch of different dumplings so we can figure out for next time what we liked best. 3 problems! Number 1), I chose to order take-out and was handed a menu. Upon receipt of my bill I saw both the appetizers I ordered I was charged $1.00 more per item than on the order form. Secondly they allowed a dog in the restaurant when I'm pretty sure Savannah prohibits dogs inside restaurants. Admittedly since a recent incident in a restaurant in the Orlando area where a "service" dog pooped on the floor the next table over has greatly influenced my feelings about dogs INSIDE restaurants. (For those of you about to post negative comments, I am an animal lover, responsible pet owner and support actual trained service dogs to have full access to public areas.) Finally my food was good, however none of it tasted fresh. I believe it was bulk frozen products prepared in the restaurant. I'm certain this is quite common nowadays at many restaurants but detracts from the experience for me. Fast, fresh and friendly. Loved the pan fried dumplings and (spicy!) bok choy. Located slightly off the beaten path it may not look like much from the outside but when you get in you see it is not a secret to locals and tourists as the place was busy. Will definitely return. read more
