The boiled spicy fish was also good, it wasn't too spicy, and the fish was juicy and used a good quality fish that wasn't tilapia. My mother in law didn't want anything too spicy so we chose sweet and sour fish and it was two large fillets of sole. We ordered a variety of soup dumpings to try. I am not a big fan of them but they were very good. The dough wasn't too thick. You can watch the lady make them in the back of the restaurant. The Siu Mai were very tasty and reminded me of my mom's. The house special lo mein was very good as well. We enjoyed the meal and would definitely come back. Our kids took us there for dinner on Christmas Eve and we can't get enough. It gets full very quickly so recommend call ahead or reservations which may, or may not, provide a faster sitting. Food is all over the place Asian. I don't know but everything that we have had is / was good. There were 8 of us and they sat us at a big round table and brought everything out and placed it on a lazy Susan and we just had some of everything and passed it around. A bit noisy but it's a happy place to eat. Lots of SCAN students and younger people. We were the oldest in the building at 70 years old. Watch out for the parking. This place is in a small "L" shaped strip mall shopping center right in the corner of the "L". Whoever designed the parking thought everyone rode in a Rick Shaw or a bicycle. If you have a large SUV or Truck, you are going to have problems so park on the street or take an Uber. read more

I'm a soup dumpling fan. My favorite is the shrimp soup dumpling. Six little broth-filled orbs to an order will run you $10. They are worth it. The dumplings are made in house on the far end of the bar. The broth inside is extremely hot, so follow the suggestions: place the dumpling in a soup spoon. Puncture the dumpling and let the soup fill the spoon. Sip the soup, then, eat the dumpling. Dress the dumpling with a few drops of black rice vinegar, if you'd like. Just magical! The people I I've dined with who have ordered as though they were at Chinese carryout have been disappointed. The General Tso's chicken and fried chicken wings are fine, but I encourage you to scour the extensive menu and order something that sounds good. And even if you are not a vegetarian, don't sleep on the veg based dishes. My go-to is the tomato and scrambled egg entrée. I ate it everytime I could when I visited China many years ago, and I understand that it is a comfort food to some first and second generation, Chinese people. In summertime, when tomatoes are at their best, they get saucy, and the acidity cuts the richness of the eggs. Maybe there's garlic in it and white pepper. Some recipes I've seen have ginger. Served with rice, it is a delicious, comforting meal served in generous portions. I've never eaten any of the dishes in one sitting. Lately they've started serving it with sugar, inexplicably. Once when I ordered it, I was asked whether I wanted it sweet or salty. The next time I ordered it it was just sent to me sweet. I had to send it back. Another dish that hits above its weight class is the stir fried noodles and cabbage. The thin glass noodles are soft with the right amount of toothsomeness, while the cooked cabbage provides crunch. The eggplant with garlic sauce got raves from my sister, and she's pickier than I am. If you love soft and silky eggplant, you'll like this dish. She also loves the dumplings. Oh, and one more thing. The big parking lot out front is often full, and the cars are a little too close for my comfort. So I suggest using the back entrance. There are two steps, but often times you can park a few yards away from the back door, making it an easier entry and if you have to park on the far side of the parking lot, then reverse the atrium. And I've never had to pay to park. Make a night of it. Grab some friends, snag a big, round table with the lazy Susan in the middle and try a bunch of stuff. Amazing Shanghai style Chinese food. The only comparable restaurants in the Eastern timezone are in Toronto Canada. This place is much better than most in the DC Metro. Was there with friends on Christmas night. had a text confirmation of reservation-I was not in their computer. hostess was absolutely frazzled by the huge crowd. Finally found table. the place was greatly understaffed and it took forever to get service,to get a spoon, water,food-especially our food . Once we asked for the check it took over a half an hour to get it to us. For the inconvenience they took 20% off tab. We had to get our own to go containers. The line to pick up takeout orders was 15-20 people long for the full 3 hours we were there.kitchen seem to prioritize the takeout because they were constantly calling out names. My dish arrived 15 minutes before my friends so I ate alone . Food was just OK, which is subpar for this restaurant. we watched as other people got up and left due to the poor service. I know this because they were sitting right next to us. The next couple at that table got up and left as well. never again on a holiday. INCREDIBLE! This is what Chinese food should taste like. Atmosphere- the restaurant is tucked in the corner of the strip mall, making it a little difficult to find. You have to be looking for it because the signage certainly doesn't catch your attention. The restaurant itself is comfortable, clean and inviting. It seems like it may be family run- all the servers were high school/college students, they were very polite but also typical kids playing on their phones and joking around. You order through a QR code on the table but do not pay to the end- making it easy ordering but difficult if you have questions, as there are no explanations included on the online menu. Also of note- gratuity is included so pay attention to your bill. Food: Hot and sour soup: WOW. I don't even like hot and sour soup but I realized that's probably because everyone's doing it wrong. This had fresh and dynamic flavors with just the right thickness in texture. It included a variety of mushrooms and crunchy scallions. It was quite frankly life changing. Beef soup: the beef was so tender you can it's just been taking on flavors for hours. The broth itself has a ton of ginger and garlic- making it the perfect feel better fast bowl of happiness. Fried rice: not even the tiniest bit greasy. It was perfectly wok'Ed and the perfect combo of soft yet crunchy. Soup dumplings: little fluffy pillows of juicy goodness. These are by far the highlight of this place. They brought me pure delicious joy. I believe they are steamed to order and brought to the table In the appropriate Bamboo basket. They do not serve alcohol at this point- but plan on receiving their license in January/February. Tip: check out their live menu online before you go-it'll let you know if they are out of soup dumplings. I've been looking for a reliable Chinese food place in Savannah for the past 7 years and I think I finally found it. We were staying overnight in Savannah on our way from NC to Florida and picked up dinner from here. Omg everything was delicious!! My son loved the chicken dumplings and we all enjoyed the chicken fried rice. Husband and I had the crispy spicy chicken and pork with tofu. Everything was mind-blowing and so good!! The ordering system was very straight forward and worked well, which I have not noticed being a common thing with most online ordering. Wow- very authentic excellent Chinese. Chinese in the South has always been a disappointment until today. My husband ordered the griddle cooked shrimp- it was amazing. He had never had that dish and will now order that wherever we go and tell me it wasn't even close to as good as E-tang. The crispy potatoes in it were fantastic. I had the crispy spicy chicken - also great but if I had known it was without sauce I would hv chosen something else. It does hold that if you see Chinese patrons it must be good. Very surprised to have authentic Szechuan in Savannah. Very similar tastes to the best Chinese chef in the US, Peter Chang (up in Richmond`, Atlanta). Tried many dishes as we were a large group and all were extremely authentic and well done. Why only 4 stars?---couple dishes like the Mongolian beef were sooo over salted and I normally like a lot of salt. Lunchtime it was fairly empty but maybe cause it is still fairly new. We were on our way home from the beach so we had our car full of stuff and was able to park our back in the paid spots and watch the car while eating. Service was great as the server was very helpful in suggestions. We got the cumin lamb, spicy crispy chicken were the best. Kids liked the orange chicken as it was fresh lg chicken pieces. Finally made it into Etang for some take out last evening. Glad I didn't wait too long. It was terrific! Big points, up front for eschewing styrofoam that is so prevalent around here. Their containers were compostable and recyclable. Great start right out of the bag!! The quality of ingredients they are using, and their cooking skills really allowed for both pronounced and subtle flavors to pop. I asked what type of fish they were using for the stir fry fish fillet. Fully expecting it to be tilapia, and was pleasantly surprised to find out it is flounder. The hostess didn't know the English translation, but was curious so she Googled it! Points for extra effort and customer sat. OK, so here's the run down of what we got and my impressions. - The aforementioned Stir Fry Fish Fillet. Tender white fish, very lightly breaded with subtle spices I like very much but can't put my finger on. The fish is a bit lonely as it really only comes w/ a few pieces of broccoli. The name is a bit off, as it is not my impression of a stir fry. 4 Stars. - Ma Yi Shangshu (a classic Sichuan dish consisting of glass noodles in a delicious sauce with ground pork). Great flavors. A bit of heat. Very light on the meat, would have liked more. The pork was a bit hard to find. 4 Stars. - House Special Fried Rice a good amount of beef, chicken and shrimp. Not much in the way of egg. But nice white onion flavors. 4 Stars. - Stir Fried Cabbage. There is a clear opportunity for more green vegetables on the menu in general. Lacking that we selected this dish. It was a huge winner. Great in depth of flavors, with a slight bit of heat. 4.5 Stars. - House Special Cold Noodles. This was the one disappointment of the meal. Partially because of a preconceived notion on my part of what Cold Sesame Noodles should taste like. These were everywhere in New York City in the '80's and '90's and they were fantastic, all around. They had a very predominant flavor of peanut butter, which is really just the sesame coming through. These noodles at Etang were good, kind of sweet. But didn't check off the box for me. 3.5 Stars. - Hot and Sour Soup. I am not that biggest fan of Hot and Sour Soup in general. More of a Wonton or Egg drop kind of guy. My wife is a huge fan of HS Soup. This version I really liked. As it was not a vinegar bomb! Its subtle and rich flavors came through with a good amount of mushrooms, fungi and other stuff. I'd give this version 4 Stars, my wife would say 3.5 Stars. So in my opinion this is a stand out establishment and will be our go to for elevated Chinese/Asian fare. This is a great start for them. They will need to get some English descriptions onto the menu as a good amount of the names are in Chinese, causing you to have to Google them. Which is kind of fun! But some might not find it so. If you're not familiar with Asian cuisine they do provide pictures, and the servers are very helpful and efficient. You HAVE to try the house beef noodle soup, and the chicken soup dumplings.
