I don't know if it was just a busy weekend but the service level here was really poor. It's not cheap (given its in rural Illinois)and there were a number of examples we had where we had issues and/or the staff just appeared like they really didn't care. First, we requested a certain type of room, were told by reservations that it would be no issue and then arrived to find that it wasn't possible and the manager said there was nothing they could do. The restaurants then get pretty busy obviously right at dinner time and the staff doesn't seem to be overly concerned that they're making people wait an extended period. There's a realization that they get slammed at dinner hour (which happens to many restaurants...it's a fact of life in tbs industry) but an indication that they're at least trying to work harder to deal with the additional inflow would help rather than operating at the same pace and appearing to not really care. You almost infer here the message of "You're on our resort here here in the middle of nowhere so we can treat you however." That's fine but I can tell you we won't likely be back. read more

I came here with my mom and sister for a last minute girls weekend. We'd previously been to Kohler (in Wisconsin) and would have happily returned there, but it was all booked up. Although I remain a huge fan of that esteemed resort and spa, Eagle Ridge exceeded my expectations, and I would come again. I found a package deal on the Eagle Ridge website which included two nights in a spacious villa overlooking Lake Galena, a $75 resort credit (which we used to cover dinner at Woodlands on our first night), a large pizza and six pack of soda from Paisanos (delivered quickly and piping hot to our villa on the second night), 50 minute massages at Stonedrift Spa, and 25% off other spa services (we got mani/pedis). Accommodations: The first villa I was given had way too much pet dander for my liking (and my sister's allergies), but the front desk attendant quickly found me a pet-free villa and had someone at the door with the keys within minutes. As an aside, I've read that some of the villas and houses are nicer than others, and, having seen two of them, I would agree that's the case. When I come back, I'll request as part of the reservation process a pet-free room (I'm pretty sure all the properties are non-smoking). The wireless was free and we didn't have any issues getting on the network. The entire Eagle Ridge property is gorgeous and, although we didn't partake in any of them, there are tons of activities available - walking trails, boats, riding, golf. Food: I would recommend dinner at the Woodlands or lunch at the bar associated with it. Our meals at both were flavorful, fresh, and good. Paisanos was so-so. I liked the crust (slightly less thick than pan) and the density of the ingredients, but the flavor left something to be desired. Tip: if you're staying at a villa or a house, bring your own snacks and booze (and cooking ingredients if that's how you want to spend your time). As others have noted, there is a general store at the resort, but the mark-up on items is significant. Spa: All three of us had fantastic massages, and the nail services were good as well. The relaxation room was little more than a 10x10 room with a mini trickling rock wall (the "waterfall") and dim lighting. There were some snacks, which was nice, but the room was not able to comfortably accommodate all the people who needed to be there while waiting for treatments. The locker room facilities were clean and containing all the necessary products (lotion, soaps, razors, hairspray, etc.) but small; the steam room was great (or maybe just felt that way b/c I was the only one using it). As far as I could tell, the pool and hot tub were not connected to the spa (and there was no hot tub in the locker room). So, although our services were lovely, there is no place to relax and visit if you want to make a day of it at the spa (as we were able to at Kohler). We would have loved to have sat around in our bathrobes and had lunch while our nails dried completely, but instead we felt like we needed to get dressed and move on so that there was space for the people with appointments following ours. Staff: All of the staff I encountered were friendly and helpful, especially the person who helped me with check-in. She answered my many questions and walked me through all the components of our package. However, one challenge I experienced is that the resort accommodations are completely separate from the spa. So, when making our reservations, I was bounced from the spa (they can't put you in their system until you're in the resort system -- else there is a $20/person additional fee for non-resort guests) to the hotel and then back to the spa (at which point no one was answering the phone). I also found the website to be difficult in that it didn't provide a lot of detail (or photos) of the villas, nor did it make it easy to understand the most economical way to do what we wanted to do (three adults staying for two nights and getting massages and mani/pedis). Bonus: Galena is an incredible charming town, just 15 minutes away. We enjoyed an afternoon poking around the shops and looking at some of the historical sites. On my drive up from Chicago, I also passed through another cute looking town called Elizabeth, which is said to have a good breakfast spot called the Broken Yoke. When all is said and done, I would definitely return here. The spa isn't as nice as Kohler, but the accommodations, though a bit dated, are clean and good. The beautiful scenery and spectacular views, plus the fact that Galena is nearby make this resort a good pick. And, when we totaled everything up, the price per person was significantly less than our Kohler weekend. I think we'll be back. read more

You would figure that this would be the perfect place for me to enjoy my Christmas diner. I love Steak, and I love Golf, but my experience at Eagle Ridge-Woodlands was a bit disappointing. The Woodlands Restaurant is Beautiful. It looks like a classy and elegant place. Our server did a wonderful job explaining the specials and guiding us through their vast Holiday menu. After having a hankering for a steak all day, I opted for their Blue Cheese Crusted T-Bone Steak special. To my utmost disappointment, the steak was dry and chewy on the inside. I don't know if they didn't cook it long enough or if it was just a bad piece of meat? It sure looked delicious on my plate, but looks can be deceiving. The final kick in the crotch came when I tried to pay the Bill. I gave them my card, our server brought it back and I signed it. To my surprise, she comes looking for us in the lobby and claimed that we didn't' pay. Our server told us that the slip that she gave us was not the Charge copy. What the heck does that mean? I'm going to be generous and give the Woodland three stars. It was the only place in the area that was open Christmas night and the setting was beautiful. And I will give them the benefit of the doubt regarding the rubbery cut of steak. They should really do something about their confusing procedure of paying the check. I eat out quite a bit, and I have never heard of system like this before. read more

I've stayed at Eagle Ridge probably a dozen times over the past 10 to 15 years. The resort and the surrounding area, including the nearby town of Galena, are beautiful. There's a good amount activities to do including superb golf courses, tennis, boating (in lake Galena and cruises on the Miss river), a ski hill with an alpine slide in the summer, a gambling boat in nearby Dubuque, historic sites (many of the Galena building were built in the mid-1800's, US Grant's home is also in Galena) good 'trinket'/antique shopping and restaurants in Galena, etc. Given it's a 2.5 to 3 hour drive from the Chicago area, it makes for a nice weekend getaway spot. So, I would rate the golf, the resort setting and the area at 4 to 5 stars... a solid A. My complaint is with the accommodations at Eagle Ridge. The rental villas are not at the standard for what I would expect given the price. I have two kids (ages 11 and 13) and we have rented villas on vacation all over the country. The past several stays at Eagle Ridge we had to leave the first villa we were assigned to because it was dirty and worn. Even after being reassigned to a 'better' property, we still had bathrooms with mold, worn and out of date furnishings, stained carpet, and lights that didn't work. Eagle Ridge needs establish standards for their villa owners and invest in refurbishing the villas. After tax and a ridiculous $35/night mandatory resort fee, we paid $370 for one night in a 2BR townhome. By comparison, this past June, we spent much less for a 3BR OCEANFRONT condo on Hilton Head Island. About a year ago we paid less per night for a townhome in Beaver Creek, Co. And these homes were "Platinum" rated with leather furnishings, granite counters, high-end appliances. etc. Given the poor value at Eagle Ridge Resort, I would not recommend it. The resort has the potential to be great - as it once was when I first started going there. But the villas are just too dirty for $350+/night. Eagle Ridge needs to invest some money before I will stay there again. read more

THIS REVIEW IS FOR THE GOLF ONLY. We did a golf trip and played the North and the East courses. I am not a well traveled golfer. Outside of my Chicagoland area courses I have only played in Vegas and recently in Galena. However, I must say that I really did think it was the nicest course I have played so far. The feel is very distinct between the different courses and they all play to different strengths. The East is a challenging 9 hole which forces you to play safe and in the fairway. There was a beautiful par 3 that drops almost a hundred feet and really is a fun hole to play. Really a beautifully manicured course and albeit very expensive for 9 holes it was extremely challenging for me but fun nonetheless. The North played more to my strengths and was more open and forgiving. Tight in the front but opens up in the back and lets you really swing for the fences. If I remember 15 or 16 was a "grip it and rip it" kinda hole. Very fun and the services is top caliber. I cannot comment on the dining and other amenities as we stayed in the resort area but rented a private residence and supplied our own food for the weekend. Residence DO NOT RENT FROM 3 GREENVIEW. The owner is a scam artist. The house has water leakage/sump pump issues and just water in general is an issue at this house (pressure, temp, etc). She is trying to keep our deposit for apparently no reason other than wanting to double her rental income. Shisty biz hatch. Not an awful place but the service and attitude of the renter was horrible. Stay away from 3 GREENVIEW in Galena. She gets negative scoring.... thumbs down... dislike. read more

My boyfriend and I came here for my birthday and the Wine Lovers Weekend. It turns out it is a yearly event that many of the people attending had been to in previous year. The event ran Friday night to Sunday morning and included lodging and all food and wine for about $500 each. Our room was beautiful, it was in the lodge with a king sized bed and a whirlpool tub. The event started with a 10 Can Rum tasting on Friday night, then a shuttle to the Galena Wine Tasting (which had beer and liqueur at it too!) . Then dinner back at Eagle Ridge. Dinner on Friday night was amazing with a celebrity chef and hosted by a Californian winery. We actually sat with the wine maker and had a great time learning about wine with him and his wife over dinner. Saturday had a breakfast (we did not make it there, though) and classes with tastings all day. The neat thing about the classes was that there was such a range of knowledge in the guests attending that nothing was overly condescending as some wine event can be. You could ask any question and they were happy to teach. Lunch was a beer paired meal hosted by Goose Island- and possibly our favorite meal of the weekend. Dinner was Spanish themed and hosted by a Spanish winery. It was served family style which was fun. Sunday brought brunch was also great. The director or food and beverage for the hotel (I can't remember his name) organized the whole event and it was planed so well and really a great time to attend. He also remembered my birthday was Sunday and wished me a happy birthday and gave me champagne in front of all the guests during brunch. There was so much coordination between the hotel's chefs and the wineries. Apparently they start planing the next year's Wine Lovers Weekend as soon at the current year's ends. They make a point to try to have new themes each year. The only downside to the weekend (other than the fact that I drank WAY to much the first night and was kinda sick all day Saturday- but that was my fault) was that my boyfriend and I, in our mid 20s, were the youngest people there by like 15 years. As nice as all of the guests were, I would have liked to have had some people our age. read more

Let me tell you a little story about 2014. I'd thrust myself into volunteering at about a thousand different places (adopt, don't shop!) and was still adjusting to the expanded responsibilities of a big promotion at work. Husband had recently changed jobs and was drowning in web development at his big dot com gig. We never slept, we barely saw one another. By October, I was BURNED. OUT. I just wanted to get the HELL away from life. I was cranky all the time, and husband suggested we get away to Vermont. I didn't want to spend the money and searched desperately for a dog friendly compromise here. Some dog savvy friends turned me toward Eagle Ridge Resort, and I found a one-bedroom, freestanding house by which I was very intrigued. I called to inquire about it and a lovely young lady advised me it is dog friendly, quaint, and VERY secluded. House rental per night was comparable to a night in a hotel downtown Chicago. I WAS SOLD. I booked us a stay for Tuesday through Friday (I know, weird, but I wanted to be able to get back home and prepare for the week), paid the dog fees and deposit, and began to get. EXCITED. I'd never been to Galena but the 2.5ish hour drive was not unpleasant, and Eagle Ridge Resort is SO enormous, it's not hard to see that you've arrived. You drive in and weave around a long road until you get to the Inn - a big, beautiful, sprawling hotel that was going to provide us our keys to our home (and a map to get there). The staff were incredible throughout our entire stay, and husband was smart enough to order us some food from the lounge there to eat when we got to our place. Once we had everything, we headed toward the rental. When we arrived, I suddenly realized what secluded means. It was DARK and we could barely see another house in the area. We parked in one place and walked a small paved path to our tiny, strange, quaint little hexagonal cabin type home. The dogs were cautious but intrigued. When we got inside, we dropped our bags and ate (the food was decent too!) and THEN explored. The house we rented was wild. It really was hexagonally shaped, had two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room and a full kitchen. There was a spiral staircase leading to a basement that had laundry, as well as a big bin of corn we could choose to put out if we wanted to see deer and turkeys (DUH we wanted to see them!). The house had a gorgeous and warm fireplace. It was super dated but otherwise perfectly wonderful, and I would totally stay in house 509 again. We spent our days hiking the gorgeous and well kept trails with the dogs, cozying up to the fireplace, lounging on the deck, etc. We actually never saw another home renter, and we only saw housekeeping once (and they did an AMAZING job, even tidying the kitchen I'd elected to cook in!). The Eagle Ridge staff really do EVERYTHING they can to ensure you enjoy your stay and were consistently polite, professional, welcoming to our pooches, and just generally courteous. We are food from the lounge and from their higher-end restaurant, Woodstone, and also visited the gift shop before departing, and ALL of these amenities were wonderful. When we left, we were refreshed, calm, happy. It felt like we'd gotten worlds away. I want SO badly to give 5 stars, but the house was SO dated - the living room furniture was clearly from the 70s, and the master bed was SO squeaky and uncomfortable, it was almost difficult to sleep. That house, with updated furniture and a comfortable bed, would be one of my top five places on the PLANET. It just needs a bit of updating. Other than that, Eagle Ridge is absolutely amazing, and I cannot WAIT to come back! read more

We stayed at Eagle Ridge this past weekend, 2 couples in a 2 bedroom villa. The grounds are very extensive and maintained well, very beautiful. The actual room was a bit dated, but everything was clean so I didnt really mind. I feel like this resort is understaffed and not as crowded as it probably was years ago - a friend of mind said that golf playing is in decilne? I dont know. The villa area by us appeared to have only 3 units booked out of 10 or so, which I didnt mind but speaks to the lack of guests which probably means less staff, which leads to things being left in disrepair/poorly attended, for example the screen door to our villa fell off when I went to open it, could not open the blinds in the bedroom as they were broken, steam room in pool area out of order, air pump by the Genral store was out of order, went to spa and had to wait for the one attendent to get off the phone in order the check in so at first appeared like no one was there, in the pool area we went to get a slushy but the cabinet was locked and the woman couldnt get ahold of the person with the key. The general store was well stocked with alcohol/food/deli which was nice and unexpected. The spa was nice after I checked in - good massage, nice setting, good amenities in the relaxation room/locker room. I was disappointed there was no outdoor pool or hot tub, if you are tagging yourself as a luxury resort with acres of property I feel like this would be a no brainer, my husband asked if there was a hot tub and one employee said they are hard to maintain and unsanitary - yet the Holiday Inn Express I stayed at while on a road trip had one, they should too. Went to the woodfire pizza restaurant, was ok, the margharita pizza was a bit bland with no basil - which makes a margharita pizza. We had a groupon for $100 off the room, if we managed to get some sort of cheap deal I would stay here again, but not for full price-the 3 bedroom villas actually looked pretty nice from the outside. I am giving this place two stars only because the staff is really great. Otherwise, I would rate this one star for the price. My fiancé and I came here to get away from the city and the noise, and instead spent $300 a night to listen to a loud wedding blast music and a drunk girl stomp around above us. The room is shabby and the bathroom is the size of a broom closet. There are spiders and assorted bugs all over the room. We should have just stayed home and saved our money. read more

Our one-bedroom villa had a full kitchen, but there was leftover food in the fridge from a previous guest. Yuck! Although the grounds are beautiful, the vibe was boring. This place is more for golf-lovers, which my wife and I are not. The on-site eateries were almost too quiet. Pool was something you'd find at a Hampton Inn. We spent all of our time in downtown Galena, which was much more lively. And for the $200+ a night we paid, you could do much better closer to Galena. read more

I took my boyfriend here for his birthday weekend -- we rented one of the one bedroom town houses (allowing us to bring our dog). Although on the more expensive side, we thought it was a great choice. Having a kitchen and a family room and a full house was excellent - it allowed us to grill out one night and cook breakfast. The townhouse was certainly not our style (very country), but was fine for the weekend. The house was clean and everything worked properly. Staff at the front desk was great - very friendly and helpful. We did not eat in the restaurants -- instead we went into Galena (based on the recommendations from Yelp and friends). And - we actually didn't golf due to the weather. But - all and all, it was a nice relaxing weekend. read more

My only exposure has been on one of the four golf courses. We had a charity tournament on the north course this week. The staff was super at arranging things and the event was excellent because of their help. I cannot remember the manager's name but she was a dream. The course itself is in a splendid wooded location. When we hit the links they were in excellent shape and well cared for. The layout is amazing and fun to play. Everyone who took care of us was great to deal with and very accommodating. We finished with a cookout buffet which was enjoyed by all - what's not to enjoy with four kinds of pie. This resort benefits from being the nicest place around, but for what we are paying for the townhouse we rented, it's really just 'ok.' The amount of box elder bugs in the townhouse is laughable - to the point that I decided to write this review due to one of them walking on my arm while I'm in bed. We're here with two kids (8 and 3) for their Winter Festival for President's Weekend. Was really disappointed that their pool was SO cold - my 3 yr old was really excited to get in and more excited to get out. Had to give him a hot shower in the small changing room to stop him from shivering. I don't understand skimping on a warm pool...and the locker room could benefit from a swim suit drying machine and some plastic bags for your wet suit given how far away the rooms are from the inn. They had a bounce house set up in their ballroom with a few other activities for kids which was nice, but again, just 'ok.' All in all, this place is middle of the road and could benefit from a bit more attention to detail. read more

Just returned from a 3-day weekend where the hubs and I and our 3 children rented a 2-bed villa. I don't know, I feel like for the high prices we paid, the villa should have been spectacular. It was just OK. It had a beige berber carpet throughout, and in spots, it was quite dirty. We also had the box elder bug problem, but that was mainly near the windows. Housekeeping came each day, but all they really did was make the beds and collect towels from the bathrooms. Didn't appear that they vacummed at all. Also, we made coffee the first morning, and as we packed to checkout on the 3rd day, the coffee pot still had not been emptied or cleaned since we made that original pot. The pool was OK, except for those nasty box elders again ! Also, the windows in the indoor pool area were filthy - no other way to describe them. Sat night, there was a large and loud wedding at the Inn. When we returned to the villa from dinner at around 9:00, there was nowhere to park our car ! All the spots for our villa had been taken ! We called the front desk, and they asked about our parking permit. We had not been given a parking permit when we checked in ! The front desk sent someone over, but there was really nothing they could do. We ended up having to park on the street, which I was not crazy about. It is pitch black there at night and I was afraid our car would be hit by a wedding guest. This did not happen, and the car was not damaged. The food was pretty good at Paisano's and also the Woodlands restaurant, though it was horribly expensive. $7 for a simple bowl of oatmeal. Wifi was awful in the villa. Couldnt get connected to save my life, although it was fine in the lobby of the Inn. Finally, on our last morning, we decided to rent a pontoon boat. I had called Recreation the day before, and they said the boat house opens at 9 AM. We arrived at 9:50 AM, not a soul in sight. We ended up waiting 35 minutes, and made 2 calls to the front desk. They finally sent down a housekeeper to help us ! The housekeeper was nice enough I suppose, but she didn't know if there were any safety rules we should be aware of. She was also grumbling that she didn't know if there were any reservations on these boats, meaning she didn't know if she should give one to us. I countered with, if someone had a reservation, wouldn't they be here already ?!? I don't think I would go back to Eagle Ridge again. read more

When we wanted a 5 day Galena getaway back in July we chose Eagle Ridge because of the website description but what we should have paid attention to were the reviews. From the time you hit the front doors the lobby and courtyard rooms have a funky musty mildew smell. The AC cools but never takes the humidity out of the room so everything feels damp and the towels never dry. We chose courtyard specifically for the balcony but it was overun with spiders and webs that we decided against it. Since housekeeping wasn't entering rooms we had no garbage removal, clean towel drop off or coffee packs and cups replenished. It was our responsibility to call front desk for that. Speaking of the front desk only one person was doing check in and answering phones so we were rushed thru it and handed the keys. Also, there was no welcome greeting just a "can I help you?" without even looking up. Never a smile and lots of attitude to the point where we'd be afraid to ask them for anything else. In fact, I don't think we saw one employee smile the whole time. The buffet was nice but if you're a small eater they say they'll charge you ala carte but there's no menu to see the actual prices. Our last morning there was a Sunday and we needed to have made reservations or wait for breakfast if we wanted to eat. No mention of that the whole time we were there even when half the tables were empty. The food at the restaurant can't be approved by the owners but if it has been then they have not had the pleasure of eating it. Word of warning, don't get the sausage. The property is beautiful with many golf courses and the plethora of middle age men relieving themselves in full view. Nature it's a beautiful thing! From now one we'll look at the reviews before we book a stay. This might have been a great place years ago but it definitely needs an update. Not worth the money we spent on the place. read more

This is an actual resort not like those places to claim to be but are just hotels. It's puppy dog friendly. You have to pay a fee for it but it's so worth it. I would totally come back. My puppie babies were so happy to greet everyone as we walked around in the lobby. They didn't restrict them like some places that you pay a fee to have your dog but they are only allowed in the outside on the sand(wisconsin dells hotel). The rooms did not smell like dogs and it did not feel like they gave us the junk room because we had dogs. The outside is beautiful! It's not walking distance from the Main Street. It is huge. I would totally recommend this to everyone especially if you're taking your dogs and don't want to be treated like you have monsters or like they're doing you a favor. The staff was super nice to my babies and gave them treats. read more

The room we got was straight out of a Pottery Barn catalog (my dream!) and was a treat to stay in. Loved the resort, it was beautiful (when it stopped raining!). We went to the Eagle Ridge resort for wine lovers weekend and some shopping in downtown Galena. We arrived early in afternoon and our room was ready. The check-in process was very good, the hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. When we got to the room I was unimpressed, the room smelled musty and was outdated. We left for the rest of the day and did our shopping and dinner in Galena. Upon our return, the room was still musty with a touch of sewage smell as our friend stated. The room did have a great view but other then the view it was not worth the money. We did have a Group for our stay, so we did not pay full retail price. With my experience with the room, I would not pay full retail price for a stay at this location. We did not partake in much of the resort other then the room. Our group was going to go to the pool but they were showing a movie and people were floating in the pool watching Boxtrolls. The pool area had no hot tub, so couldn't even enjoy that are at all. We did visit the coffee shop in the morning, it features Starbucks coffee and its pricing. The selection is very good and our order was completed promptly and tasted great! Upon check out my wife informed the hotel staff of the smell and let them know the little smelly thing plugged into the outlet wasn't enough to overcome the musty smell of the room. They were not apologetic at all! I guess friendly and helpfulness of the staff is gone at checkout, it's a we don't want to be bothered now that your out of here! We will not return to this location, I will not give a positive or negative review to anyone that asks me, I will tell them how it is and let them decide if they'd like to stay oat this location. If hotel staff were to ask me about their resort I would tell them their resort needs some updating! read more

My family use to take a yearly summer visit to Galena for the Bears Training Camp some 17 years ago. Its been over a decade since my last visit. This time my husband surprised me with a weekend stay at Eagle Ridge and stayed in a cottage by the woods. We spent a relaxing weekend away from the city, driving around Galena, Christmas and antique shopping, playing card games, watching a movie and eating s'mores by the fire place. I will always associate Galena and Eagle Ridge with pleasant childhood memories and hope to share this experience with my future children some day. read more

Having recently moved to the Galena Territories, The General Store has become my daily stop for coffee and a paper. The associates - Linda and Mary especially, are incredibly friendly and helpful. Great stop for" that "last minute" meal prep item; wine; or just the daily baked bread and pastry. The Woodlands bar with particularly the bartender Bryson, are worth the visit. He had us convinced that the dark beer on tap had less calories! Gotta go to Woodstones for their oven baked baked pizza too. read more

The doorman is the main reason I'm writing a review. He was an older gentleman and he was genuine,caring and friendly. We instantly felt welcome here. At one point he said "thank you for your smile." The staff at the lobby were also very friendly. We were in a king size bed room in the courtyard. I thought the price of 219 was too much for the room. Great views and great trails. It was very convenient to galena. The beds were comfy but they didn't restock the sugar for the coffee. The bathroom was super tiny. read more

Service was impeccable. The room (double queen) was dated, but the bed was comfortable, and the water pressure was good. The Woodlands restaurant was mediocre. The waitstaff was good, but the food was bland (veal tenderloin) and undercooked (filet mignon). The room was outrageously priced ($300/night). It was nice to have a Starbucks on site, however the pastry were picked over by mid-am. The General Store was fully stocked and a nice touch if you were to purchase items for a picnic lunch. A gas pump with air station was a nice convenience, and gas was reasonably priced. It was virtually impossible to get internet on my iPhone in the room, although I had no problems while in the lobby. We only stayed for a weekend and did not have a chance to partake in all the accomodations, but it was HUGE, BEAUTIFUL, and we got a GREAT DEAL on a villa. If you happen to visit, definitely grab a group and visit the villa! There were two private bedrooms, a kitchen, a living room, an extra seating area, and a patio with a grill. This afternoon, October 28, 2017, I witnessed the worst customer service by a resort employee in my life. But not just any employee, it was General Manager Thomas Ruhs. While at the Woodlands Lounge watching the Florida v. Georgia football game on the large screen, an unidentified man with a Michigan State hat on began changing the channel to the Michigan State v. Northwestern game. When a large group sitting directly in front of the TV objected, the man stated "this is Big Ten country" and continued. This group was obviously there to watch that game. When they and others in the bar, including myself, objected louder he became more defiant and condecending. When the group asked for the manager, he proclaimed that he was the General Manager of the resort. Everyone was astonished that this man was the general manager. When staff confirmed it, the group and most of the other patrons began to leave. He treated this group terribly. I have seen my share of TV arguments in bars before but it was always management that settled the disput, not start it. When I left, Ruhs was at the bar by himself. This person has no business in the hospitality industry. Karma sucks... Northwestern beat Michigan State. read more

Amazing! Best way to put it. This place is beautiful. What a magical getaway. And who knew it was so close to the city. The rental was huge, all of the bedrooms (all of the rooms in general) were immaculate, the kitchen amenities were right on point, and the view was breathtaking. It did take us about 30-45 minutes driving in circles to find the place, but I can't blame the resort on my lack of GPS capabilities. I would definitely go here again for a relaxing weekend away. read more

Loved the service we received from the staff. We didn't pass one of them without getting a friendly hello. We stayed in Room 403, and it was clean and comfortable. They offer a different array of activities for the family which include free bike rentals and movie for kids in the swimming pool area. The food at the lounge was also surprisingly good. I booked two nights at Eagle ridge for a grand total of nearly $700. When my wife and I checked in, we were told we needed reservations for breakfast even. I was disturbed because we're on vacation and we have to schedule when to have breakfast? When we walked into our room, it was even more shocking, there was a great big square part on the ceiling where there had clearly been a leak. The paint was chipping off and it looked horrible. Our room was small, undecorated and very boring. Keep in mind the two night price point. While the view out the window was fantastic, we have stayed in more luxurious Holiday Inn rooms. It went downhill from there. We went up to one of the restaurants to have dinner and it was a glorified sports bar. It was loud and had nice things on the menu however my steak was burnt, my baked potato was cold to the point where the butter would not melt and it was hard as a rock. My husband ordered the salmon and it was barely edible. It was such a disappointment. Having spent our wedding anniversary there 35 years ago we were looking for a memory. What we have is a memory of 35 years ago and a really bad experience for a high-end resort that should raise its standards rapidly. The resort feels crowded, overrun and impersonal. We remember beautiful and peaceful. You sacrificed quality over how many tiny rooms you could squeeze in. Oh and A/C in the hallways would be a nice feature instead of stifling heat. read more

We spent several days here for our 30th anniversary. Our room was a King Courtyard room on the first level. The room itself was fine. The price was high. The view was nice; the outdoor patio was nice. The toilet/bath was a bit tight; the room desk was a knee-buster (could have been higher). I do think the resort needs to replace the windows in the room. The view is marred by a whitish haze on the interior of the glass. The windows must have been sealed at one time, but now, when light hits, all one sees is a hazy view towards a beautiful lake. The housekeeping people did a decent job of maintaining the room and were responsive to requests to replace partially filled bottles of shampoo that should not have been removed and to replace light bulbs that have burnt out. The restaurants: The Woodlands Restaurant, the Woodlands Lounge, Spikes and many more according to the Web site. We ate at Spikes (reviewed separately), the main Woodlands Restaurant and the Woodlands Lounge. Woodlands Restaurant - Breakfast buffet includes eggs and omelets cooked to order any way you want, bins of bacon, sausage, potatoes, French toast the days we were there, and a few other breakfast foods. The buffet rates 3 1/2 stars just because it did not include waffles or pancakes. Woodlands Restaurant - Saturday night prime rib special was good. The potato was a bit underdone. I was surprised that there were no other veggies for the prime rib - I like peas with it. The price was fair. Other dinner menu items are high priced, but I guess reasonable for a pricey resort such as Eagle Ridge. We only had dinner in this restaurant the one night. The menu is a bit fancier than I prefer. Woodlands Lounge - Great burgers, great pizza, good Scottish salmon, good everything. The price was even reasonable. Overall, the resort is best for those that golf or bike or hike or fish or canoe. It is a pleasant and relaxing. read more

I had a great time this past weekend at this resort. The staff was way too nice and helpful even when I asked to change rooms because the first one smelled a little humid. The food is great, the ESCAPE package is very worth it, and the town of Galena which is about 5 miles away is so pretty. I read reviews in which they criticize the staff but my experience was wonderful. I hope to repeat it soon. AND, I have to add I'm very, very picky when it comes to service. read more

I recently held my wedding here. Everyone is so nice and helpful. Made my day even more special knowing my guest were being treated with kindness. Any little thing I needed they got for me. The rooms are very clean and comfortable. Only negative thing I can say is it is a little pricey. Overall beautiful place to hold a wedding or just get away. read more

4 stars for the resort, negative stars for my experience with their Director of Golf Micheal! We rented a 3 bed room home for 3 days (July 3-6) and really enjoyed the professional and friendly staff, but Director of Golf Michael did not represent the classy professional customers service the resort provided otherwise. Director of Golf "Micheal" while I played the South Course said "you can leave" yesterday if I wanted to bring small cooler w/ water on 100+ deg day & no cart girl until #14 hole. I was allowed to bring on cooler at 3 other of their courses 2 days prior. I understand that there is a policy against coolers I was unaware of, but considering the weather, no cart girl and I was the 1st tee time (6:50 AM), felt he was extremely rude on how he handled this issue and I will not return! We initially had to move houses due to a bug infestation we discovered in the basement due to the unusual hot weather. They were very quick to move us to an nice 4 bedroom which was great. read more

My family rented a townhouse for the weekend. We enjoyed our stay. Service at the resort was excellent. The kids enjoyed the activities the resort had planned throughout the weekend. My only (minor) complaint is the beer tasting that was advertised. We drove to Spikes for the tasting only to find out it was a 2 oz tasting of one beer! It was free so again the complaint is minor. Overall we enjoyed our stay and will be returning in the future. read more

I'm torn about this place as I was here 50% for business, 50% for pleasure, and have mixed feelings about the whole experience. Our company had rented one of the "Distinctive Homes" for a board meeting and cocktail reception; this "home" had about 6 bedrooms (I lost track of them), with large beds and private bathrooms in each room, a rec room in the basement that was more like a sports pub, pool table room, two refrigerators, a meeting room, hot tub, large deck outside; it was more like a mini hotel than a big house. But the fancy electronics equipment in each main room was impossible to operate. Why spend so much money on fancy gizmos when we can't do something as basic as turn the TV on? Or get the music playing? We ended up using a few laptops to play music.....and then there were the flies. Someone apparently had left the front door open of the house, allowing a swarm of flies to enter the house. They stayed with us the entire visit. Despite a few prompt trips by the exterminators to get rid of them. Flies are like mini Terminators; impossible to kill. That aside, the resort is great - three golf courses, including one world-renowned one ("The General"). A General Store on the property, with all of the supplies you'll need, including a decent wine and beer selection. Two restaurants, (one open year round, the other seasonal, "Spikes," with a terrific view of the course and the hot air balloons that launch each night, weather permitting). The main lodge seemed rustic and cozy, although we didn't stay there. Pedal boat and canoe rentals for the lake are free to guests for the first two hours, and if you stay a little longer they normally don't charge you. The staff was beyond friendly - although they could use another "General Store," as the one on the property gets really busy and people shopping there are in no hurry to get going (okay, my east coast impatience came out a few times.....) If I could give this place three and a half stars, I would - not quite four, due to the aforementioned problems with the TVs, stereos, and flies. read more

Nice place with great scenery. The staff was very nice. It is a bit pricey and there were some hiccups: the wifi is very poor, the temperature in the room was hard to control, and the walls are quite thin. If you can get a discount somehow, it might be worth the money. read more

Had probably the best weekends staying here. I was so impressed with exterior and interior of the hotel. Simply beautiful! The staff was also so nice and welcoming! I wish I could leave zero or negative stars because one doesn't do justice for how I feel about this place! My family and I were having dinner at their restaurant on NEW YEARS EVE, and we ordered a variety of items off of the their menus (both kids and adult). I ordered the seared salmon, my cousin ordered a burger off the kids menu (and specifically asked for it to not be pink) and my sister ordered the 25 dollar chicken quarters. Once the food arrived, we noticed the burger was super pink right away. My sister had already started eating her food when she cut the second piece of chicken down the middle and RAW BLOOD AND FLESH spilled out of the chicken!!!!!! We were absolutely disgusted, the blood even ran down the plate!! The waitress looked over at our table when we were calling her over (Laura) but instead of coming to our table she proceeded to take another table's order. Once she got to our table, she noticed the chicken and said "oh it looks a little pink" ?!?!?! There was little blood everywhere and it was very red. She asked if we would like it cooked longer and then whether or not we ate any of it, and my sister said she did. Laura never apologized and took care of the situation very poorly for a place that sells such expensive food. She said she would talk to her manager and see if they could take it off the bill.... she never followed up about it. Never eating here again. read more
