This is my second review. My boyfriend and I went the weekend after Valentine day. We stayed in another villa/condo from Thursday -Monday which was perfect because they were giving a presidents day special. My boyfriend wasn't happy at first because the villa we had last year was booked and we loved that room. However, we did find another room. This year's room was really nice however the bedroom could have been a little updated other then the palm tree blanket set. Also, we arrived on the day that all the cable had went out in the entire resort. But they were very accommodating. When they couldn't get our tv to work they found another one from another room that not only worked but was much larger then the one we had originally. Overall... Love this resort. We are making it out Valentine's day tradition and hopefully we get lucky and get our very first room again but it is nice to try different rooms. read more

Even though we didn't stay in their resort, i have to say its a very nice facility. We came to see the Thunder bay waterfall since we where passing in the area. We also decided to drive inside the territory just being curious. They have a nice big golf course and a gift shop where guests staying within the territory can purchase things and play some golf. read more

This review is only for the location and cabin rentals as we didn't dine at any of their restaurants & we don't play golf. The resort grounds are beautiful and extensive. Even late in the autumn season with most of the leaves gone it was very nice. Be sure to visit the lake and the waterfall while you are there. The homes to rent are fully equipped with everything you would need from plates, glasses, pans, utensils, coffee maker & coffee, DVD player, small stereo and gas grill! Bring your own food, drinks & movies if you like - but you can pick those up at the little general store if you forget something. They even have DVD rentals. Yes, the food at the general store will be overpriced, but any store in a campground or resort area will be that way. If you want to make the trek to the other side of town there is a Walmart. They also have free WiFi. The inside of the homes are furnished and decorated beautifully as well. Be advised to bring your own hairdryer, though, if needed. We would have been content to just walk the trails, grill, and relax by the fireplace the whole weekend. If you want to venture out downtown Galena has plenty of shops, historic places, restaurants, breweries and wineries to keep you occupied. Look in to what restaurants you'd like to visit ahead of time if possible as many of the good ones will be busy and reservations recommended. read more

if you like to feel like your not welcome anywhere on the resort please come play the overpriced dumpy golf courses. grounds crew will enjoy blowing grass and rocks all over you, and the rest of the staff wishes you weren't there. when you get done golfing get a crappy overpriced meal, then retire to the dump house you paid $400/night, have the ac clank, while you toss and turn in the lumpy bed! if you need to browse the internet don't bother because cell service does not exis, and the Wi-Fi doesn't work eithe, not to worry, they provide a tech support number(nobody will answer) read more

We recently stayed here for our Anniversary and we're very impressed. Staff was excellent and very knowledgeable of the area. Views were Great and the fact that they have shuttle service is a huge plus. Our Driver. Pete T was excellent and very friendly and Helpful. We asked for some places for Photos and he took us to a Beautiful Waterfall. Very Knowledgeable about the amenities available and area. We will be staying here again. Our villa had long black hair all over the downstairs area bath, Tv area. The fireplace had two match books on the floor nearby. Doritoes and popcorn crumbles. They only give 1 towel/person for our 3 night stay. Beds were comfortable. Kitchen well equipped. Master bath was nicely appointed. Lots of trails. Golfing was a challenge- got over 10,000steps with cart ( I play frequently at home). Other than cleanliness of villa. .... good get away. Came here for a work conference weekend and had a blast! We actually stayed in the hotel lodging and got a below ground room which was still pretty cozy - however they had a dehumidifier which left our room very stuffy and I kept on tossing and turning at night. The view was stunning and our patio was a nice little addition. The fact that we had free wireless added to my internet addiction. Room service was decent and the food we got was quick and affordable. However, minus one star.. they thought that we brought a pet but we didn't so they charged us and after some hassle, we finally got that fee removed. and while we were in bed, someone came into our room! Sure, they knocked and we weren't going to answer because we were in bed but they still came on in our room!! But the restaurant/catered food was good, bar was fun, staff was friendly and helpful - the shuttle service was fabulous and the activities that they offered were complimentary and lots of fun (ice skating and sledding). read more

Great staff! Resort/hotel room fair. I'm giving our stay a 4 star only due to the staff. Linda at the front desk, Jack the restaurant manager, and Madison our server made our weekend. We received excellent customer service from all three. As for the room, lets just say it was clean. Per the website, the photos make the $200/night room look luxurious. Our room had older 80's furniture, the fixtures were old, the only bathroom sink is in the living/bedroom, 80's floor & wall tiling in the bathroom, and the bottom of the bathtub was dark and worn. I understand you have to prioritize remodels and your main lodge should be number one. As I stated at the start of this review, your staff saved this review from a 2 or 3-star rating because it definitely was not the quality of the resort's conditions. read more

Absolutely unacceptable experience. 8 of us arrived for 4pm check in on NYE, after we called and confirmed check in time. Our 4 bedroom cabin wasn't cleaned or ready for us so we stood outside with 3 dogs for an hour. They finally allowed us to bring our dogs in the lobby where we waited for another hour. They let us go to our cabin before it had been cleaned. They sent two people to clean our entire cabin. It was "cleaned" in less than an hour...how is a cabin this large cleaning this quickly? It can't be. The staff were not wearing masks, and when we asked them to they lashed out at us. One of the showers didn't work, we didn't have soap, we found a dead mouse in the hall (see pic below) and the hot tub we paid extra for didn't work!!! The dishes had lipstick stains. Bathrooms had facial hair. They only vacuumed one bedroom. This has been a terrible experience. Especially knowing that they rushed to clean our cabin during COVID when extra precautions should be implemented, makes me feel uncomfortable. We didn't get to truly start unpacking and enjoying our New Year's Eve until 8pm. They did allow us late check out and took off some fees, but overall we were very disappointed with our experience here. read more

I have been coming here for the past ten years. Besides summer, my favorite time to visit is during Christmas! They have always made a HUGE, life size, gingerbread house to greet guests in the front of the lobby during the holiday season. I rate HIGHLY because of past experiences, my most recent visit a month ago, lost them a star... Word is, new owners are the reason the front lobby now resembles, a couch sale, that exploded in a living room. I am not a fan of that new addition to the Eagle scene. Must I mention, they put an office as the first thing you see and moved the coffee shop/Starbucks to the back. Fine, draw peoples attention to the back of the main floor to 'check out the place' but did they have to crowd the front way with TWO offices? Not a good visual introduction to entering the hotel lobby, as it once was so charming and warming, the ambiance has changed in the front. The warm greeting, vanished in office papers. read more

We had a disappointing experience at the Eagle Ridge Resort. As others have mentioned the photos on the website make the rooms look luxurious and you get the feeling that the rooms are all part of one large building, but most of the rooms are actually entered from outside. There are a few reasons this is important to note, one would be safety reasons. We were two women staying for three nights. Our room was steps away from the driveway. Cars and trucks were going by at all hours. we were always looking over our shoulders as we entered or left our room and never felt totally safe doing either. We stayed in November which this year was quite cold and with a room that had an outside door you had ice cold air coming into the room each time the door opened. So not only did we not feel particularly safe in the room, the room was difficult to keep warm. We also had an issue with the charges both for our room and for services we received at the spa. At the spa although two of us had the exact same service when it came time to check out our bills were twenty dollars different and over thirty dollars more than the advertised price. Although we were able to get this issue resolved it took a considerable amount of time and indicated to us that the person at the desk was not aware of the promotions being offered and or had trouble working the computer. The resort was offering two special events on what was suppose to be the last day of our stay. These were canceled so we decided to check out early. Even though we were checking out early due to the Resort cancelling activities, we were charged an early check out fee. Eagle Ridge can afford to treat their customers well. The should know how to provide good customer service. We found them lacking. read more

We stayed at the resort for a wedding. The venue is beautiful. Our room was on the first floor and was marginally clean. The room smelled like it had been in a flood and the carpet was not changed. It had an overpowering musty smell. It was awful. If you do stay here check out your room first and avoid the first 2 floors. We were there for a wedding and everyone had the same complaint. Our room happened to be the worst so avoid room 101!!! Management needs to step up and replace the carpet. read more

Quick summary: The golf is a 9 out of 10. the lodging and restaurants are a 4 out of 10. Brought the wife for a long golf weekend. The "upscale" restaurant was not impressive by any means. I would avoid it. The restaurant at The General was also mediocre at best. We rented a room that someone owned and rented out based on the view (well, kind of a view). It was decorated by someone who could've been my grandmother. **Review for Woodlands Restaurant** Saturday night prime rib buffet with salad and potato bar - simply amazing! We made the mistake of ordering an appetizer - the lobster beggar's purses - which were way too salty. Dessert was also a bit of a let-down as they creme brulee was pretty cold and without much flavor but upon request they added the champagne grapes on the side and those were divine! Great stay at the Eagle Ridge Resort & Spa! My group of 10 stayed at one of the "Distinctive Homes" last weekend while were were in Galena for a triathlon. I have to say that the home was really comfortable and had all the amenities we could have asked for. There were flat screens in each room, a pool table, a jacuzzi, bar-b-que grill and bathrooms for each room. We also visited the restaurant at the main lodge and had a great all-you-can-eat pasta dinner the night before the race for $17.95! A total steal. I would definitely recommend this place and wish I could have stayed longer! :) read more

I really love coming to Eagle Ridge Resort. We visit annually with a large group during winter ski season. We're a bit too loud sometimes, but the kind Eagle Ridge staff are still service us well and give us top-notch treatment. We left some items behind and the staff found them in our room and made sure friends picked them up before they checked out. The food is delicious - even the pizza place! For our large group, the service can be slow in main dining room (as a former server, I understand how difficult large groups can be). Still, the dining room seemed understaffed on a big weekend. Eagle Ridge visits are a tradition for our family. We will continue coming! read more

This resort is in beautiful location, great golf courses and a handful of friendly and helpful staff. The bartender and waitress in the bar we had on a couple nights were excellent. Unfortunately, my room was in very poor condition, full of spiders my entire stay (11 that I saw), and the wait staff in the restaurant was indifferent to my being there. One thing that really didn't sit well was when I went to check out really early, there were 6 or 7 patrol cars blocking the front drive. There was obviously an issue as none of the officers who were standing both inside and outside the lobby would even make eye contact with me. When I asked the front desk what was going on, I received a flippant "just a misunderstanding." Now I get it they really couldn't go into detail, but some reassurance that there was nothing to worry about, would have been nice. In this day and age hotel staff really should understand this. And if it was just a misunderstanding, they could have given me a little help in either allowing me to pull my car up to the drive to load my luggage, or a little assistance with my multiple bags. My experience would lead me not to return for a personal trip, but I get it that it is the only game in town for a large conference, and it was not bad enough for me to stay offsite. Now I say this only because the resort is so expansive, the closest other hotel is over a 15 minute drive away. For anyone staying here, I would advise doing a sweep of your room for spiders upon arrival and demand assistance in spraying your room if needed. It's in a wooded area so there will be bugs and wildlife, but you shouldn't be forced to sleep with too many of them. read more

My family and friends are frequent vactioners at Eagle Ridge Resort. Over the years I've stayed in an array of villas from 1 bedroom to 5 bedrooms, during both winter and summer seasons, but have yet to stay in the main lodge. Just 2hrs and 45min away from Chicago, it's a nice country getaway. The majority of my visits have been with large groups of people. Eagle Ridge offers both private and public rental villas. During the summer if you're able to rent a private home on the territory try and ask for the members club pass to the members only pool because that pool is much nicer than the main lodge pool. The club pool is outdoors and has a scenic view of Galena's rolling hills. The resort also offers seasonal hot air balloon rides and horse back riding! My most recent stay was this past February for a couples Valentine's weekend getaway with 14 people. Going in winter is my favorite time of year to visit. Some winter activities offered are: downhill and cross country skiing, ice skating, and sledding. However, skiing isn't on the resort's property so you have to be sure to sign up for the shuttle that will take you on a 45min ride to Chestnut Mountain Resort. Chestnut Mountain is another review in it's self! But I will prefaces by saying that if you're a beginner, good luck starting off on those slopes because I thought the courses were at the intermediate and skilled levels. Our home had 5 bedrooms (master included a jacuzzi tub), 6 bathrooms (5 adjoining to the bedrooms), fully stocked kitchen (including rice cooker, juicer, baking essentials, coffee maker), two living rooms, sound system, free wifi, 2 fire places, wet bar, pool table, women's powder room, laundry room, a huge wrap around balcony, and an outdoor fire pit. I have to say, we were living the life styles of the rich and famous in this villa and the nicest one out of all of my experiences! The interior design was beautiful, furniture plush, and the appliances top of the line. One thing to note is that if you choose to rent a villa with an outdoor hot tub there is an additional $100 per night fee. Towels are provided and so are complimentary toiletries, as well as, pre chopped firewood for the bonfire. Should you run out of anything you can call the concierge and ask for more supplies. The villa also comes with an air mattress. If your property needs to be shoveled form a heavy snowfall, you can ask the concierge to send maintenance to plow. The best part of all, is that even though you will most likely bring copious amounts food to cook while during your stay, you can still order room service to the villa! It's really amazing! Across from our villa were the horse stables and we had a breathtaking view of all of the horses roaming the field. When there's time for the town, I highly suggest going to a restaurant called Fried Green Tomatoes.It is an Italian steak house and everything on their menu is really delicious. I recommend the filet mignon and stuffed shrimp. What's also convenient is that for only $140 dollars including gratuity we were able to book a private shuttle bus and it picked us up on our doorstep. One thing to know about driving in Galena on the country roads, is that their winding, scary, and pitch black because there are no street lights. The shuttle bus was a life saver for a group of our size, added to the luxurious amenities of our stay, and everyone had a great time on it! Be sure to book well in advance because it's highly probably the bus will be making multiple pick ups throughout the night and locations in the country are very dispersed. Galena is a town rich in history with lots to tour, taste, and shop so be sure to check out Main Street! Lastly, I'd like to inform that there are a few restaurants and a bar on the resort. Sunday brunch buffet at the main lodge is quite nice. Also, there is a general store on the property if you need to pick anything up. Furthermore, the resort territory is so massive, it will take a 5-10min drive from the entrance to the main lodge, and up to 20-25 min from the farthest point, back out of the resort. In sum, to really experience this resort I believe the best way to do so is during winter while animal foot prints are still visibly intact and by renting a villa rather than lodge room. This is not a nice place to stay. Our room just stunk of mildew. There was a dehumidifier under the desk that I emptied 6 times in 2 days due to the moisture in our room. Not very clean at all and very run down. We were with a large group and one of our families had to leave in the middle of the night after finding bed bugs in their room. I had to wash literally everything in our suitcases when we came home due to the musty odor on our clothes. Would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

Rented 2 movies for the DVD player, got back to the cabin and to our surprise, no remote anywhere in the cabin that would allow us to use it! Wow TVS in the bedrooms, 1 I believe was a computer monitor, geez couldn't you have at else provided 32 in? And batteries for the remote? The game room? Why bother to put a tv up there, it's so small and not even a new model. Wow 3 bedrooms and 2 rolls of toilet paper other places we have stayed had at least 2 rolls per bathroom. Granted we know we need to buy extra. Let's discuss the kitchen. Please replace the kitchen stove. The money we paid would easily allow you to purchase a new one. Just plan on eating g out or grilling! Because the stove terrible. I see the cabin is rented... so dined some money and fix it up. We have stayed at Eagle Ridge many times because of the location...but you could not get me to try this one for $49 a night Ever again. These folks are pocketing the money and doing nothing! The problem came when we tried to find gluten free options at the in house restaurant. Most of the staff had no clue what gluten was and just handed my wife a menu and said take a look and see if she could eat anything. I mean not to have one knowledgeable person who can answer questions about sauces and how good is prepared is not a lot to ask. My fiancee and I recently attended a good friend's wedding here. For months we had heard nothing but great things from family and friends that have stayed here in the past, so naturally we were very excited. First off, upon arrival prior to the check-in time, we requested an early check-in without providing any prior notice. To our luck, there was a room ready! And this is where it turned south...We stayed in the courtyard attached to the main lodge, for reference. Upon entering the room, we were immediately hit by a wall of musty, stale odor. My fiancee and I noticed right away the out-of-date feel to the room and bathroom. Extremely poor quality for the cost. After setting down our bags, killing several spiders, and inspecting the room, we noticed a large wet spot on the carpet. Turns out it was URINE! And in a room that was "clean" and ready to use no less. The staff was notified immediately, and we were moved to a different room, again in the courtyard. Again, this room was EXTREMELY humid and musty, all while having the AC running nonstop. Also came to find out, I was billed for both the new and old rooms... With the issues with the rooms, and outdated nature of the room quality, we were beyond disappointed in the experience. For having a minimum of two nights stay, at more than $200 per night, this is an extreme let down. Aside from the terrible room, the staff of the resort are extremely friendly and helpful. The amenities on site, including attached bar, coffee shop, pizza shop, and reception ballrooms are excellent. I would also greatly suggest golfing here if you can afford it and have the chance. Easily one of the most beautiful courses you'll see. (I played the North Course). All in all, if you comfortable paying waaaaaayy too much for a sub-par room, but are into all of the extra possibilities on site, this may be an OK spot for you. Went here for a wedding. Beautiful grounds. Good food. STAFF = TOTAL DICKS FOR NO APPARENT REASON. Granted, the couple of times we had occasion to stop by Spike's, it was absolutely just fine, and they were friendly, but the banquet staff behaved as though they were sullen 13 year olds who were only at the resort because their mom said they had to and she is SO LAME AND OMG I HATE HER SO MUCH. Have you ever rather timidly asked for more water from someone whose job it is to do things like make sure you have water, because your glass has been empty for a solid hour, and had a grown woman not very subtly roll her eyes at you and then turn up about 15 minutes later, sigh audibly, and fill your glass halfway? This review is for the Woodlands restaurant only. If you are in Galena and it happens to be Christmas Day, Eagle Ridge is the only place within a 30 mile (or more, I didn't search any further) radius open for dinner. And this is important to know because you will need to travel here, regardless of weather, if you want anything more to eat than the old, stale granola bar you found in your car's glove compartment. When they say "everything is closed" on Christmas in Galena, you can bet your life on it. So, we were in the middle of a nice little snow/sleet/ice storm that conveniently peaked in ferocity at 6pm, just when we needed to drive for a 6:30 reservation. So even though other reviewers say this place is easy to find...well maybe on a nice, bright summers day, but we had a bit of trouble this night! However, we managed in the end and were greeted by a warm, wood paneled entrance & restaurant which seemed very 1920's Lodge - like to me. I ordered the Lobster Vol au Vent to start and was a little disappointed that it arrived lukewarm. The pastry shell was not heated at all - but at least the filling had big chunks of lobster and was tasty. For the entree I had the Chamomile Salmon, which was a Jasmine and Chamomile seared salmon with sweet corn, asparagus and tomato stew, Riesling and cream reduction and Parisian potatoes. The veggies were small and tasteless, the salmon just a hair overcooked. Andy M had a special, which was a blue cheese crusted steak, and that looked amazing. I think he won in the ordering department that evening. We then settled up with the waitress, left, and while Andy was in the restroom, I strolled around the lobby. Suddenly our waitress appears out of nowhere and says that we didnt pay! Apparently, when she gives you the bill, you give her the credit card and another slip of paper arrives...which isnt the charge receipt. We still dont know what that paper was supposed to be, but it was really weird and the waitress said it happens to people "all the time". Well, maybe you would like to revamp your process if thats the case! Had I not lingered in the lobby we would have left without paying! yikes! Like I said, considering you dont even have a choice of ramen soup from the corner store on Christmas Day around here the Woodlands is a 5 star extravaganza. I have been going to Eagle Ridge since I was a child. We always rented a house in the territory! So much fun. We enjoy all the restaurants - especially Woodlands. Since the house has a full kitchen, we tried to cook most of our meals. Lots of great memories in Galena. The pool with the retractable roof is awesome! Clean fitness center as well. Love the hiking trails and my dad loves The General golf course! Something for everyone at Eagle Ridge. You can rent boats by the hour too! I have never stayed in the actual inn, so not sure how to describe or rate that part. Check out the General Store while you're there too. They have a great seafood pasta (cold side dish) as well as steaks and snickerdoodle cookies! read more

The Eagle Ridge Resort & Spa is an absolutely great place to go on a family vacation. We rented one of their houses (610) that sleeps 10 and every minute of it has been amazing. We checked into the lodge and then had to drive another 20 minutes to the house but the drive was beautiful along the way. As soon as we walked into the house we were all very pleasantly suprised. You walk into the door and there is a very large living room, dining room, and kitchen with large ceilings giving the house a very open and warm feeling. There is the master king bedroom on the main floor but if you go to the basement there is another three bedrooms perfect for large groups. Today we went into town because it was rather cloudy out. The shops were adorable, exactly the kind of shops you want when you walking around a small town exploring. As soon as we got home the sun came out and it was 90 degrees so we all rushed to the pool which was only a 5 minute drive to lay out. Tonight we will be eating at Green Fried Tomatoes which has gotten rave reviews! We are all very excited! read more

I was treated to a getaway here... Galena is nice but I'd avoid Eagle Ridge. We got a package deal (well I didn't pay), and it was insane how much they charged... (I think it was around $500 for a night in a villa, a bottle of Champagne at welcome, breakfast, and dinner at their restaurant). Also my sister had called and put money on our account for a spa treatment. When I went to the spa, the workers were extremely rude and acted like I was disturbing them by walking in. They didn't know anything about the money on my account. I would've just paid, but the workers were so rude that I ended up going down the street to the Irish Cottage for a very nice massage there instead (the hotel itself looked very cool, too). Now... back to the villa. The villa itself was OK. It had a fireplace and was well stocked with fire wood. They didn't really say what kind of Champagne it would be given, but I assume there was an assumption that it would be something halfway OK given that for the package price was pretty hefty. It was a bottle of $5 grocery store Totts. ...Breakfast was supposed to be delivered to our villa, and we were told to call in the morning when we were ready. The problem, though, is there is no cell phone reception there. The villa had a phone line, but it was out of service for some reason. (It was supposed to be working and wasn't). So we had to get in our car and drive to the main lodge to tell them we wanted breakfast, drive back, and wait for them to deliver it. Completely silly. Dinner was atrocious. The service had the vibe of a Denny's. The food was actually worse than any Denny's I've ever been to. The house wine they served tasted like Kool-aid. We mentioned all of the problems at checkout but they didn't seem to care. All was in place for a nice weekend, but they let down in so many ways. We won't be going back here. read more

This is the third time I have stayed here. The first two were in the hotel. This time we had a gold villa. This is a true resort with a ton of amenities beyond their giant golf course. The spa has all of the treatments you could want. They seem to be in the process of a remodel with the villas. At this point ours was a nice space with outdated but clean furniture. read more

The villa we stayed in was filthy. Insects, caked on dust on window blinds and decor, rust, hand rails black from dirty hands, greasy finger prints on sliding glass door, rusty corrugated metal covering firewood. I could go on and on. Never again. read more

**Review for a villa townhome** The location and setting of Eagle Ridge is a perfect weekend getaway from Chicago. However, I had higher expectations for the $350/night that we paid for a villa. I visited with 3 friends for our annual girls getaway - we like to rent homes rather than hotels so we can relax, cook and not worry about being too loud. The villa was great for that. My complaint is the 70's decor - everything was very run down and not of the quality I was expecting for the price we paid. The towels were thin, sheets and pillows of low quality and the screen door had a huge gash which let bugs in. I'm not a high maintenance person, but for high prices, I have higher expectations. If you can get a good deal on a villa, go for it, but if you're paying full price, you can probably do better elsewhere. read more

Excellent service, which for me, is bottom line. As a woman traveling solo I could not have been helped to feel more comfortable or at ease. The friendliness of each staff member far exceeded my expectations. I stayed in the main lodge with beautiful views from my room. The pub room was inviting and Kai, behind the bar is a true professional. Dinner was superb and coffee in the cozy rocker near the fireplace provided the reflective time I was in search of. Next time will include a spa day! read more
