Note that you (family members) get free food the first week of your relatives' stay. Then you have to buy a food ticked at the front desk. It's not located in a sketchy part of Escondido, but it's also next to a busy street. Staff members seem to know everyone's name by heart.

During that time she was fed home made food and was really shown a lot of love by the staff. Last year Mom turned 105 years old. Yes, 105 is not a misprint. Maria put together a party for my mom which I will never forget. If you are looking for a truly superior environment for your loved one to spend their remaining years, this is as good as it gets.

The amazing views, even from her small, but very comfortable private room, were spectacular, and with gracious covered patios on three sides of the home, she spent a great deal of time out in the fresh air, watching all the birds that flocked to the many bird feeders, enjoying the vast vistas (you can see for 20 miles in every direction), and doing activities on the large outdoor table. Maria and her staff always celebrated birthdays and holidays with lots of fanfare, and my mom received personal attention, like getting her nails painted or makeup done. Visiting her there was always comfortable and inviting. We were very lucky to find such a loving and beautiful place for my mother, once we could no longer care for her ourselves.

Needless to say, she did not really want to move from her home that she's been in for a very long time. I've contacted and visited 6 places and Atria meets all of her needs. Her memory is not as good as it used to be and she needs extra help. This location has services that allow her to remain if her memory continues to diminish. Atria's staff has been wonderful, patient and caring. I've been trying to convince my mom to move for the past 4 years and she literally told me today that she is so happy she made the move. These are words that I thought I'd never hear from her. Thank you to everyone at Atria for making my mom feel at home and removing all her anxiety over making the move.

And then moving your loved one, in our case, our Mom did not want to go and was very difficult. However, Atria could not have been more helpful. The entire staff aided in the transition, Glen, Darla, Sophia and Kimi. And now, Mom is happy and we feel comforted knowing she has care 24/7 if needed. I recently spent 3 days at Atria sitting with my Mom for 4-5 hours each day and was able to see how the staff interacts with all residents. They have so much patience and always a kind word but also are obviously well schooled in the services they provided. Our family is devastated by the care--or lack of care--my 75-year-old mother received while she was…read moreat this rehabilitation facility. My mom was elderly, immunocompromised, and recovering from surgery. During her stay, she developed an infection and was clearly becoming increasingly ill. Despite her worsening condition, we felt that her decline was not taken seriously enough and that there was a lack of urgency in getting her the medical attention she needed. When her surgeon identified an infection at her post-op appointment, my mom was sent back to rehab rather than immediately being transferred to the ER. She then had to wait more than a week for a CT scan to determine what was causing the infection. During that time, we watched her health deteriorate drastically. We repeatedly witnessed how sick and weak she was becoming, and as her family, we felt helpless. She needed someone to recognize how serious her condition was and advocate for her before she became even more critically ill. My mom ultimately passed away. There are no words to describe how heartbreaking it is to know that someone you love was so sick and vulnerable, yet you felt like the urgency of her condition wasn't recognized or acted upon quickly enough. We trusted this facility to care for my mom when she was at one of the most vulnerable points in her life, and we feel that she deserved a much higher level of attention, monitoring, communication, and advocacy. She was placed in a wheel chair to receive a CT scan the morning I came to pick her up. Couldn't open her eyes, barely communicate, and the nurse said nothing to me. Just went about things like nothing was wrong with my mom. Our family will live with this loss forever. We only wish that our concerns had been taken more seriously and that more had been done when there was still time.

Emeritus at Escondido is a wonderful home for our mother!…read more My sister and I searched for an affordable assisted living environment that would take our mother and her cat. It was important that she have nutritious meals that taste good, a nurse who would be in charge of her medication and a loving environment that would invite my mom out of her room to participate in activities. We found this at Emeritus Escondido! Paul, the manager runs a happy staff who seem to know everyone by name. They plan free bus tours to the flower fields, the local shopping mall or just about anywhere you want to go. Weekly events are planned in the game room like Bingo, cards or Wi bowling (my kids favorite). The Emeritus bus driver takes my mom to her doctors appointments for free within 10 miles, the nurse lets us know when our mom is running low on medication and the staff cleans her room every week --including her laundry. She has it made! The down sides to Emeritus is that the waiters/waitresses offer all the food you want with 2nd or 3rd helpings so my mom has a bit of a muffin top, the activities are fun my children would rather go play at Emeritus than see their own friends and worse, my mom has made so many friends it's almost annoying to walk with her down the hall because she has to stop and talk to each person as they walk by. Our mother is so very happy at Emeritus Escondido that my sister and I could not be more grateful. Please trust me when I tell you that this is a wonderful home away from home. You would be lucky if there is any availability.
