I really wanted to like this place. I'd read the reviews, the pictures looked delicious, and I was excited to eat some sandwich goodness. And yet it was a disappointment. I stopped by Earl's around 12:30 today and wasn't surprised that the tiny little sandwich shop was busy, it being lunchtime and all. The line wasn't too long though and soon enough the perky girl at the register was taking my order. I decided on their French dip because I loooooove French dip sandwiches. I try one wherever I go, along with Reuben's which Earl didn't have. The price was a little shocking. $9.50 seems a bit steep for bread stuffed with meat that gets dipped in broth, but I took it to mean their sandwich must be phenomenal. Alas, it was not. For me, a F Dip has three key elements that have to work together or else it's a dud: Bread, meat, au jus. The bread was ok, a baguette that was nicely toasted. But smeared with a LOT of Dijon. Dijon has a pretty strong taste, and I wouldn't go liberal with it on a sandwich that has simple flavors. Like a French dip. The meat was tender but under seasoned, and there wasn't a lot of it. There was however a LOT of onion jam. The onion was extremely overpowering. So much so that it tasted like I had ordered an onion and Dijon sandwich. Lastly their au jus tasted bland. No depth of flavor I come to expect, and it tasted like it was beef broth from a can. There was also a small piece of melted cheese in there, but there wasn't enough to taste and be graded upon. All in all one of the worse French Dips I've ever had. I'm pissed that I wasted $10 on it. The only reason this review gets two stars is the staff was super friendly and the service was very quick. Looking for a chicken caesar salad tonite so I pulled up a few spots on the phone. Decided to try EARL for the first time so I stopped in and ordered the Pesto Salad. Ended up with a few substitutions like spinach and turkey but I can definitely understand why. First of all, it's a tiny spot with a few seats, which is okay by me. It was easy to get to and clean inside. Two gents (Tom and Noah) were hard at work with some nice music bumping in the background - cool. But I believe the real reason I had to sub out some salad ingredients is because the food is prepared to well that they run out. My salad was delicious. The ingredients were fresh - spinach, avocado, pesto, turkey, caesar dressing, parmesan cheese, cucumber, and croutons and the serving was generous, not to mention reasonably priced. This is the first time I've ever finished a salad that size. No doubt I will make this a regular eat spot and I recommend it to anyone. Thanks fellas! read more

Was planning on eating elsewhere this afternoon, but it seemed like all the restaurants around teamed up and decided to be closed for Monday's lunch! This place and we were on the fortunate end of the situation! The place is small, with only a few counter seats. We ate there, but might get it to go next time as the only star off was for it being too hot with no air circulation (they need more than 1 ceiling fan!). The staff was welcoming and friendly, eager to give recommendations and describe what made each sandwich special. I was impressed not only by the cashier's knowledge of what went into each item, but by his genuine enthusiasm for the food. We went with his suggestions, ordering the French Dip, Turkey Jam Sam, and the Avocado Toast. With drinks it came to just over $26. The French Dip was definitely the star. i could eat that every day. Wonderful combination of flavors that took what could easily be a tasty but boring sandwich up several notches. It had a spot of horseradish in the dijon, which balanced beautifully with a hint of sweetness from a light layer of marmalade. The Turkey Jam Sam had Bacon Jam as it's special something, and it was something special. I was mentally expecting deli turkey, but the turkey salad was, I quickly realized, a better choice as it allowed the bacon jam to mingle with the turkey flavor instead of remaining separate in your mouth. The avacado toast had a glorious amount of perfectly ripe avocado on it, and was deliciously seasoned. The bread in all three was as much the star as what went inside - warm, crisp only on the outside, soft without being overly chewy on the inside. Delicious! read more

Finally got to try this place. Small cozy hole-in-the-wall. It's in the same parking lot as Happy Days Chinese Restaurant and Top of the Hill. Heard their daily specials are good, so I tried the meatball sliders. Those were okay - made with mayo, mustard, pickle and tomato (a little spicy from the mayo). Also had the Turkey Jam, which has tomato, pickle, arugula and BACON JAM. That jam was bomb!! Overall, good place to grab lunch. Not very much seating, so you can always take your order to-go. This is a small little hole in the wall, easily missed if you're not specifically looking for it. I've heard of this restaurant and have seen in in several cities on the mainland. I think I may have gone in with a little higher expectation than normal. Just ordered a French Dip to go. The gals there were very friendly and it's a quaint little place with a few a few seats. Little too claustrophobic for me. The sandwich was good, but I was just expecting a stand out sandwich, which I did not experience. It might have been better if I ate it hot or if I ate a different sandwich. It's a good sandwich but not one that would make me drive over from Kaneohe. You know how someone posts a picture of something that just looks so incredibly delicious, you think that it MUST be fake? Well that was me, when I had seen pictures of Earl Sandwich's instagram account. I had kept seeing these wonderful pictures of juicy looking sandwiches pop up on my feed and I immediately searched for this sandwich heaven on yelp and bookmarked it. I kept awaiting the day when I would finally be able to go and taste one of these magical sandwiches, and that day had come some time last week when I had found myself outside of a closed eatery with hungry coworkers awaiting lunch back at work. Yelp loyally reminded me of Earl and told me that I was nearby so I booked it to Earl. Now its important to note that you wont be able to see Earl Sandwich from the street (dont make the same mistake that I did; i drove around the block multiple times -___-). So I called and was informed that they are located kind of next to Big City Diner, but was INSIDE the parking lot. Well damn. Gotta pay for parking, you say? But its totally worth it. Pay that 75 cents, because you will want to make your way there, trust me. Like their pictures and others have indicated, their place is very small, only having room for about 7 people to sit at a counter with limited space. Although they have a small menu compared to others, it seems that each item is pretty tasty. I opted for the Brisket sandwich, and my coworker had gotten the sandwich with the mushrooms and goat cheese (ughhh I forgot the name!) with their infamous bacon jam. I also ordered a side of the Avocado toast, and we got a couple of iced teas as well. Although there was a line, the orders were taken promptly, but the waiting game began. But like I said guys...totally worth it. Overall: The Good!: -The FOOD: UGHHHH when i bit into that heavenly sandwich, I was amazed at just how much taste was packed into that brisket, and how tender it was as well! Since we were busy at work, I ended up having to take it home for dinner, but even then...it STILL tasted delicious, even though it wasnt fresh! My coworker also enjoyed her sandwich, saying that it was really tasty. The avocado toast was just okay for me. Yelp 100 Challenge #57/100 After reading the reviews about Earl Sandwich I had to come down here. I actually thought it was the Earl of Sandwich chain franchise when I first saw it and was really excited. But, I found out it wasn't. Not a problem because after reading the reviews I was excited as well. When I first walked in it was about 10:53 am and they were already opened. Sweet! They open at 11:00 am so I was happy to get down to business and try one of these sandwiches. Then we were greeted by Alea. She was very friendly and personable. I went in here on a mission to order the goat cheese, but then after reading that the Jamestown is like Thanksgiving in a sandwich I was torn. But, Emi's review on the goat cheese sandwich swayed me to try it. I asked Alea if they could cut the sandwich not in half, but make one a little bigger and another smaller since I wanted to share with my son, and he already had a snack before coming here. As soon as we placed our order I saw our sandwich become alive by one of the owners. I found out later it was Justin who is the son and the father's name is Jose. About no more than 3 minutes later our sandwich came out. I took my first bite and it was an explosion of happiness in my mouth that went down to my tummy. Boy oh boy! That goat cheese with the balsamic vinegar, asparagus, and tomatoes all melded together to create the (In move trailer voice) "The Awesome Goat Cheese Sandwich from Earl of Sandwich." It was so good and I could eat that all day! By the time I looked back to see how my son was doing, he was halfway done and said how good it was. This is a good way to get your kids to have some veggies. While we were enjoying our sandwich Justin came by and offered us two sliders of the day to try. That was so very nice of him. The sliders of the day were, homemade meatball, lettuce, tomato, sharp cheddar cheese, and sweet herb mayo. I believe the slider was in a sweet roll. I tried it and the meatball tasted very home made and was seasoned great. It was good and they make different sliders everyday, which I thought was just awesome. Again I looked back at the little guy and he devoured his. Must have been good. Justin definitely has a passion for what he is doing and it shows in his food. Also, I checked in and they had a special to get a free drink. We got the hawaiian sun juice and my son did his happy dance. One more thing I noticed is that Alea was asking other folks if it was there first time here and she told them what is their more popular sandwiches and what they were. I always thought of sandwiches as a school lunch or a light snack...until I tried Earl Sandwich. I've tried every single one of these yummy sandwiches on the menu, and it is impossible to pick just one favorite because I honestly LOVE them all. Each sandwich has special, unique flavors and you can tell a lot of thought and effort went into creating each of them. In any given sandwich, you can taste each of the ingredients as well as the overall meshed flavor. It's like a symphony...each ingredient shines like a solo performer, yet when they all come together, it becomes a beautiful sandwich much like a symphony orchestra. This only comes from quality ingredients, superb sauces, and a masterful chef skills. Like I said, it's difficult to pick just one. But if I was faced with a life-or-death ultimatum, I would go with the Goat Cheese with Bacon Jam added. It's honestly heaven on earth. I also love Turkey Jam Sam with Avocado added. Everything is better with avocado. And if you're in the mood for something else, definitely try the Sliders of the Day. They're meatball sliders with different flavors depending on the day. The caprese appetizer was better, with a zing to it, but nothing that people who don't appreciate HOT, spicy food can't handle! EARL has one of the best creative iterations of a Cuban sandwich I have ever tasted. I am Cuban. My extended family lives in West Tampa. I have eaten a lot of Cuban sandwiches. This place nails it. The pork is beautifully cooked, the cheese melted, the perfect addition of bacon, the in-house pickles and the unbelievable bread. Every change from the original adds to the level of this sandwich. I want to try every single item on the menu. I could eat at this place every day of the week and still get excited to eat another one of their sandwiches. All the ingredients are tasty and service is excellent. Drinks are refreshing but on the pricey side but worth it. They have one Vegi Sub and a salad, but try the meats. It's good. So Parking. It's in the Kaimuki parking lot and sometimes the machines work and sometimes you won't find parking (weekends meal time), but if you go during off hours and you are in-n-out you won't have to pay. Beef braised beef is 3 stars because it's very greasy and bland, onions and cheese was spread unevenly. French dip is 4 stars. It's flavorful and we like the dipping juice. We ordered the lunch box sets (mini sandwich, chips, cookies, and amazing potato salad) - $12/ea and its all pre-bagged & ready to go. The staff at Earl are friendly and accommodating. There was a miscommunication on my end but they were more than willing to help and rushed it out so I could get it to my office (I also came a bit earlier). My co-workers loved the food and we'll all be back to try more things on the menu! We're excited for the Kakaako location to open :) read more

I don't normally spend that much for a deli style sandwich, but to be honest they do pile on the toppings and the sandwiches are VERY tasty! One sandwich can easily be shared between two people. VERY SMALL space (counter top seating that fits maybe 5 or more?). So best to grab and go, unless you don't mind a line of people standing so close to you they can almost take a bite of your sandwich. **Sign up for their email and receive discounts like $2.00 off. I recently visited the Earl Sandwich during lunch time and had a somewhat hard time finding this location. I was thinking that Earl Sandwich would be a bigger location since my girlfriend was raving about this place. I tend to use Waze to find my parking location which they are spot on, but this is usual for that app. I came here around lunchtime. Parking at the Kaimuki Munipcal (I hope that's it) was packed, so my girlfriend and I had to walk couple blocks to reach the location which is no problem. The reason why this plays into the review is that this location is a "hole in the wall" not figuratively but quite literally since it's a small restaurant. It was very hot inside, so I did take out after looking at the VERY friendly cashier dude have beads of sweat on his forehead. My girlfriend ordered the BEER BRAISED BRISKET, and I ordered the CHORIZO BLT which she ordered the meal which came with a drink and some chips (nothing special about the chips but most locations do this). The price I thought was on the high side since it was 12 dollars for a sandwich which wasn't very big but ill dig into that later. I went to the coffee location down the little building and came back since you can't wait inside unless you can pick up the four seats in the location. Beer braised brisket: The sandwich was 12 dollars and wasn't that big, but it did pack some flavor with it being stuffed with meat. I liked how they didn't use the same generic bread for both the sandwiches we ordered. I felt like they used a harder bread for the Beer Braised Brisket versus the Chorizo BLT which was great since you have a dipping sauce to get some of the juices in the sandwich. The sandwich was little on the high side in price wise, but I felt like it was well worth it with the flavor and I felt full from this sandwich Chorizo BLT: This sandwich was again at 12.50 dollars and was the same size as the Beer Braised Brisket with a softer bread (maybe not bread.. could be how they toasted the bread), but the Chorizo was filling compared to the Beef Braised Brisket. I had no issues with finishing it, but I was full for several hours after the meal. This sandwich had to be my favorite out of the two sandwiches since it packed so much flavor with the basil mayo and chorizo meat. The Avocado and Tomato were needed so you wouldn't get that over greasy taste... (you know the one that causes you to rethink your eating choices, and somehow your running shoes come on) TL;DR - Earl Sandwich was somewhat hard to find, but my good ole trusty Waze app helped me out. Earl Sandwich is a small location near Big City Diner. The sandwiches aren't the cheapest ones in the market, but the flavor and friendliness of the staff set this place apart from other sandwich locations (you know the fastish food chain). I will definitely come back to this location and try the other sandwiches that they have to offer, but I wouldn't recommend eating inside the restaurant unless you have business to attend in the location read more

Finally! A year ago, I kept driving around and couldn't find this place. And now I realize that you have to just park in the parking lot and pay for parking. The sandwiches are so so good. I saw a pregnant woman asking if the meats were safe and they totally are because they make and slice all of them there--there are no pre-purchased deli meats. The size of the sandwiches can vary; the French dip was smaller than the Drew (pastrami). The Drew was loaded with tons of meat. Both sandwiches had the perfect mix of meat, sauce, and fixings. The au jus for the French dip was rich... I ended up dipping the Drew into it too. You really can't go wrong with whatever you pick. Well EARL did that for me. I had a large order for an event and the staff was a hustling when I came a little early to pick up the order. They were super friendly and the sandwiches were a hit! Lots of inquiries after. I also did a separate order for myself and a coworker. We had the Turkey Sam Jam and The Drew. Both were really good but volume of the drew was way more than the Drew so we planned to split it. However she told me after the purchase that her husband was picking her up for lunch. So left me in the lurch with two sandwiches. And so did I wallow in self pity and lose my appetite?! Hell no! I ate both sandwiches over the course of two days. Both were the bomb! She missed out! Wanted to try Earl shop in Kaimuki. Reviewed their menu online and it all looked delicious. Asked which sandwiches were their most popular. They said the Fried Chicken PoBoy and the French Dip. Ordered both with a side of Jalapeño fries. OMG the sandwiches were amazing. The fries put the experience over the top. The fries had a homemade cheese sauce on the top and the bottom with a sprinkling of pickled Jalapeños on top (awesome sauce). Earl Sandwich was delicious! I heard good things, and took a very long time to try it. I shouldn't have waited so long. I had the Italian sandwich. The sandwich had a lot of meat in it and was so savory. The ingredients went very well together. luckily they cut it in half because there was no way I was going to be able to eat the whole thing. It's located in one of the mini kaimuki shopping strip, I forget what the name of it is, but it has Happy days at the corner on Waialae Avenue. Depending on when you go, there is a lot of paid parking. I would suggest not going during peak hours like dinner, or to call in your order. I went on a weekend day for lunch and there were a lot of people waiting for sandwiches. The service is good. We ordered right away, despite the number of people waiting for sandwiches. The wait didn't seem very long since I went shopping at other smaller places in the same area. I will definitely visit again. I ordered a spicy chicken club and jalapeño fries and it tasted amazing! We got our sandwiches pretty quick and has nice bar seating.

I really enjoy getting sammies from here!!!! The standing menu is always delicious, but their specials are REALLY special!!!! My favorite is the peanut butter mustard pastrami sandwich. The crunchy peanut butter goes perfect with the mustard and the spicy pickles and pepperoncini add the crunch and extra flavor that I have come to enjoy from Earl's. There is a lot of parking in the gated lot and pretty cheap as well!!!! Earl's is in a small corner of the building that also has Seed in it. They have a couple cool Coke bottle cap stools and two lovely wood counters that you can sit at and dine in. Their avocado toast is so yummo!!! A little sweet, a little spicy and the avocado is always fresh and creamy. Their french dip is my all time fave!!!! Oh Earl Sandwich. Where do I begin? It all started with the "what do you want to eat?"-"it doesn't matter" debacle between me and the fiance. He loves sandwiches. So when we pulled up the Earl Sandwich (he's been talking about it for forever) I was like, "uh..." but I couldn't say anything because I said it didn't matter, right? Well thank goodness, because I L.O.V.E-d my pastrami sandwich. I actually preferred the taste of the Cubano, but both were spectacular. I felt like I got a decent amount of meat in my sandwich. I couldn't finish it in one sitting. So delicious. Everything was tasty. Lots of different flavors but it wasn't too salty. Actual shop is teeny tiny (leave the stroller in the car, sorry). There are a few seats up against the window, but taking your sandwiches to-go may be your best bet. Service was awesome despite how busy it was getting. I can't wait to eat at EARL again. Been here a few times but only had the French Dip.. I was about to order another one but they were out today. Fortunately this gave me an opportunity to try something new. So I had the Beer Braised Brisket that came with a stout au jus.. Just be aware they make these when you order so it may take up to 10 minutes. I assure you it's worth the wait. I definitely like this over their French Dip. This is is my new favorite dipping sandwich. Well no, it would be a tie with Livestock Tavern's braised beef tongue.. It's a really small shop so kind of hard to eat inside but the food is really good!!! The sandwiches are a little on the small side which is the only downside to me because they taste great! And the staff is amazing too! The guy that was working the cash register today was really nice and very helpful explaining everything to us. I think the tea and lemonades are the most worth it because most places charge way more than $3 for a lemonade especially for how big it is. The sandwiches aren't too expensive considering how good they are. I would recommend getting take out though cause it is quite hot inside the shop. read more
