Staci at Earl's Bike Shop took great care of me today. I needed a heavy duty hitch mount bike rack on short notice, and I was afraid that I would need to mail order it and wait. I'm so glad I checked with them first, for not only did they have one in stock at a reasonable price, but they assembled it and installed it on my vehicle for no extra charge. Then provided a quick training class on how to use it. Now that is customer service at its finest! They also have a nice selection of bikes and accessories available in the store, and are conveniently located right across the street from Haggen's on Meridian. I'd go to Skagit or Vancouver before I'd spend a cent at earls. came in with an old road bike, had a loose bottom bracket. didn't have a person to tighten it up, ok. dont do loaner tools, ok. came out to put eyes on it, thank you. mentioned for a split second something about an old website for broke cyclists, with cheap parts. instantly turned sour to me and walked away mid sentence, mumbling something about being local. well, as a Bellingham local, I'm glad I've spent my money at jacks since I was a child. screw this place and the greasy haired jerks who run it. read more

Ordered a youth mtb saddle (SDG Fly Jr. in purple) to match the accent color on my 11 yo's first full suspension mtb. We got a pink one. Sent first email asking if there had a been a mistake or if maybe colors were just off (online vs in person - that's not unreasonable). No response. Tried another email. No response. Tried using their online chat service. No response. Tried calling, no answer. Maybe if you go in person they'll treat you like a business should treat a paying customer. Thanks, Earl & crew! I hadn't ridden my bike in about 7 years. With the gyms and yoga studios limited or closed, I needed to get moving. I saw good reviews and was able to contact them directly through Yelp! for an estimate and to set up a dropp off time. So, I took my dusty, crusty Cannondale and my husband's equally ignored Schwinn to Earl's for a little TLC. Dropping them off was easy - masked up employee came out to get the bike and my information. The bikes were ready in two days!!! I was expecting a week or so! Wow! Terrible customer service. The lady started out looking annoyed before I even spoke and then argued with me for 5 minutes that I didn't know what I was talking about. I did know and all I needed was about 5 pumps of air from a $30 pump. I was told that I needed to check my bike in, leave it and pay for service or purchase a pump. I would have been glad to buy the pump but I was a little shocked at how I was being treated and I certainly wasn't going go through a whole checkin process and then leave my bike for this. Even if I hadn't spent $1000 in this shop in the last month, I would still expect such a small favor to be gladly handled. Instead, I was treated rudely. They have been nice enough in the past when I am buying things but when I needed a little help (maybe 30-60 seconds of their time?), I was treated as if I was an asshole for even asking. I get no sense that they get any enjoyment in the services they provide or have any desire to be helpful or to be a part of this amazing biking community. They here to profit off of the biking community in any way they can, not be a part of it and have proven they wouldn't lift a finger to help someone in need, even if it's no sweat off their back to do so. I went up the street to another shop and had a much better experience, so I will go there from now on for everything I need. I won't even come to Earl's to take advantage of the service package on my mountain bike. I am shocked by how stupid this is. I spend a lot of money on bikes and parts. I don't get the sense they care but my money will be spent elsewhere and when I am asked for my recommendation for a bike shop, I will steer my friends away from this place. read more

I've been taking my bike there for a few years, but the service quality has really gone downhill recently. It seems like they're extra busy and are rushing things. Took my bike in for a tune up. Got it back and the dish of the rear wheel was way off, the tires weren't fully inflated, and no one mentioned it to me in person, but I read in the notes on the receipt they emailed me that the front wheel was bent. Taking it to a different shop to get the rear wheel dished and see what else was missed on the tuneup. Hope they get some more help soon so they can take the time to actually do full tune-ups properly. read more

Super stoked on the customer service here. I walked in a bit after 6pm (they're open until 7pm on week nights!) with a rear tire I had bought a couple of weeks prior. Long story short, they warrantied the tire since we were all in agreement that it was manufacturer defect (the bead was coming off after only about a month of use). In a past experience, when fixing a spoke on my commuter, they lent me a bike for a couple of days (free of charge) so I could still get around. I've been doing business with Earls almost since they opened. Two years ago I purchased an ebike (Gazelle brand) and have had two routine services on the bike. Earls provides excellent service both before and after purchase with pickup and delivery if needed. They take COVID precautions seriously to protect themselves as well as their customers. They are a family owned business and they honestly e as opposed to the larger shops in town whose main interest is in upselling and seemingly wanting to provide unneeded services. I've found that Earl's honestly appraises your needs and provides their services at very fair prices. read more

The first time I went into Earl's 10 years ago, I had literally dig a rear rack out of the lawn of a rental. I cleaned it off, and I needed some mounting hardware for it. They dug around and handed me the screws, and said - "go ahead and have them, just remember us." Since then, I've purchased five new bikes and one consignment bike from Earl's. They worked on my 30-year-old Bridgestone commuter to keep it running and were always sensitive to price and quality - never trying to sell me on anything - in fact, usually the opposite: more of a what do you really need not what-new-shiny-do-you-want or what-should-you-have. They make sure you've got lights and helmets! They care about your safety. Super knowledgable - always have great advice about anything from bikes, to accessories, but also groups to ride with, the local scene - even changes to the cycling infrastructure in town. Writing this as a young female bike commuter‍. I had heard a bunch of great buzz around this place but everyone working here is super rude and condescending to non-cyclists/biker bros. Take your money elsewhere where you will be treated with respect. While inquiring about the used bikes, staff kept telling me I didn't fit any of the bikes I was looking at (I'm a short gal) and talked down to me like I didn't know anything about bikes or biking. My chain broke at Cornwall park, just down the street from this shop. A driver saw me flummoxed, holding my chain, pulled over and pointed me towards Earl's, much appreciation to her. I walked my bike to the shop and explained my predicament, asked if they had time to check the spacing and overall condition of the chain, cassette and rings. Turns out every stand was full and they're booked out three weeks. So they offered to take my bike in and send me home with a loaner --total overkill for a broken chain, so I declined. I suggested they just sell me a chain, help me get home, which they obliged, $17, but then refused to help me put it on. "There's just so many variables," he said. What? So I turned my bike over on the sidewalk in front of the shop and pulled up a youtube video on chain installation, feeling awkward and stunned to be in that position. I was having a hard time figuring out how to route the chain around the derailleur, especially with the sun glare on my phone and finally asked a mechanic who'd come out to test ride a bike that a lady had just dropped off, no appointment, for help (she'd purchased her bike from their shop so I get the special priority but really, no regard for a broke down biker?). Took him all of 15 seconds, yes 15 seconds of pointing and directing and whala! I snapped my chain into place--Thank You Cyrus!!! But really Earl's? What have I learned? -Carry a spare chain and instructions on how to install it -I can't really count on Earl's bike shop when I'm on the road in a jam. I've toured thousands of miles with the support of numerous local shops and never imagined I'd have this experience with one, polar opposite. Local trappings with corporate service. Sticking with Jack's from here on out. I'd rather bus home than end up here again. read more

So happy with this shop, First; the hours, open till seven on weekdays! Stellar! Literally 99% of the reason I even walked in the shop at 6:30... because it was open! Huge deal for a guy who works later than normal. Second; the service, top notch, they heard me and did what was agreed upon and delivered the bike on the day they said they would. Third; craftsmanship , had brake levers and calipers installed on a fixed gear bicycle and the flip flop switched to freewheel as well as maintenance on the bottom bracket, all of it is on point and operates as it should without any kind of variance. 1,2,3 check check and check Oh wait! Price I certainly feel I got my dollar's worth. I'm not from the area but I know that Bellingham is lucky to have a quality bike shop like Earl's Ima go ride now. read more

for my brother: I recommend that nobody EVER go to this sh*t-shop of an establishment! I went there to remedy my pedal falling off my bike and was treated as if I had Leprosy! I was sold a bolt ($3.50) and I asked if I could use an allen wrench to attach the bolt. I was told "we don't lend tools". OK, fair enough. My bike was right outside the door so I asked "How much would you charge me for you to tighten up the bolt?" and was told, "we're booked solid for three weeks"! I then asked if I could please get some kind of assistance because I am a cyclist in need of help. "We only help people with flat tires"! Now I'm IRATE!. I walk out the door to see that I needed a nut, not a bolt. I went back inside to give back the $3.50 bolt and get a (probably) $.50 nut. No adjustment was offered for the price difference and I asked if I could get a receipt? I was then told that I don't need a receipt! I hand tightened the nut and made it to a friends house to properly fasten the nut. I can't ever remember being treated with such disdain in my life and I am 60 years old. BOYCOTT this place!!! There are plenty other bike shops in Bellingham and Fairhaven to go to and know how to treat people with respect and can help a broken down cyclist! read more

As a female on the shorter side who knows very little about bikes, they treated me with respect and enthusiasm. They brought several bikes to my house to do a practice commute with to make sure it would do the trick. They even rode with me to help me figure things out. When I finally made a decision they delivered it to me and picked up my old bike for consignment. All on top of their already busy schedules. And always with a smile. I entered the shop and noticed the salesperson was busy with a customer. I glanced about and was pleasantly surprised to get a greeting from said salesperson. I just got a Specialized Sirrus 4.0 from Earl's and I am really happy. Months ago I contacted them about availability of fitness bikes and when one became available, Kara contacted me. No other bike shop that I contacted kept me in mind like they did. She handled my purchase from start to finish and was terrific. We went for a short ride and she set the bike up for me, made sure that I was comfortable and taught me about technology that I wasn't familiar with. The store used to be great. The new owner has kept it going but killed the vibe of the place. The new owner is a bit overbearing and controlling with a harsh attitude. Still got great bikes and mechanics but has seen better days and there are far better places in town with top notch customer service, no need to slum it. Looking at other recent reviews it would appear I am not alone in this conclusion. Check out the Hub if you want to buy used from a shop with quality mechanics. Check out Fanatik, Kona, and Lost for great new bikes with decent to great service. As always shop around online too, it is best to support local shops but online research is important. read more
