Where do I start?…read more WOW! I think that's a good place to start. My mother came to visit me from the states, and my husband and I wanted to take her to dinner. We decided on Cactus Club Cafe because of the menu. We walked in -- no reservations -- and were sat down almost immediately. Our waiter was super attentive. My mom ordered the salmon, I ordered the baja fish tacos and my husband ordered the bacon cheeseburger. The food was amazing. He asked if we were celebrating anything, and we kinda were, but that was not the reason for eating out. My mother was seeing me after a year. My PR had gone through this past December. My husband and I celebrated our first year of marriage on the eighth! We told him those were not the reasons for eating there though, but he gave us free desserts all the same, and while the dessert was too rich for me, my husband and mother devoured them, it was still so good!

I ordered Steak Frites, i swapped out regular fries for Truffle fries, i requested medium rare closer to rare and they did not disappoint. Had to be healthy and wash everything down with hot water and lemon. Love this location because it's very lively and service is always amazing! All the staff are incredibly bubbly and conversational. Easy to get seats, make resos online or walk in. Free parking available .. restaurant is always super clean and ambiance has just the right amount of light and decor in my opinion. I often solo dine here when i finish errands or the gym. Super introvert friendly. Think this place suits any occasion really

Good thing the table came with salt and pepper so I could season my own food, which I will say that after seasoning it myself (a lot) it was actually quite delicious. I had the Miso & Spiced Honey Glazed Black Cod and the fish and vegetables were cooked well. Overall I enjoyed my dish BUT only after seasining it a ton myself, which in a relatively upscale restaursnt such as this I really shouldn't have to. So overall, 3/5. It wasn't terrible, but to be honest I think there are better options in the area for food that I don't need to season myself to enjoy.

I don't know if its the batter or how they did it, but they were super crispy, not soggy, flavourful, and the truffle dip was delicious as well. 12/10 for the fries alone! For my 3 course menu, I chose the mussels (excellent, 5/5) beef short rib (tender, 5/5) and key lime pie (crust was a bit soggy, 4/5). Overall the portion sizes were very generous and the food was served at a reasonable pace. I would return for the fries alone! Presentation was beautiful. Happy to have found a new spot for happy hour or a date night :)

The first time was amazing--the portion was generous and the steak was cooked really well. The second time wasn't quite as impressive, but still enjoyable. This time, however, the Tomahawk was noticeably below the standard I had experienced before. What I found particularly strange was the way the steak was presented this time. Normally, a Tomahawk has the meat on one side of the bone, but this one seemed to have the meat separated into two sections, almost as if it had been cut through the middle of the steak. It just didn't feel like the Tomahawk I was used to having here. The steak also cooled down very quickly, and once it got cold, the texture became noticeably tougher and less enjoyable. The service was also particularly slow this time. We were seated around 7:30 PM and placed our food and drink orders within about 30 minutes. The drinks came out within roughly 20 minutes, which was reasonable, but we waited almost an hour before the first appetizer finally arrived. Considering it wasn't an especially busy evening, the wait felt quite long. That said, the other dishes were still pretty good. I especially enjoyed the Stuffed Squid appetizer. Overall, I still think Alta is a nice option for a small gathering or dinner with friends. I've enjoyed my previous visits, which is why I keep coming back. I just really hope the Tomahawk can return to the quality it had on my first visit.

we visited earls kitchen + bar station square to celebrate mother's day and three may birthdays after an unexpected invitation from manager matt to return. i want to be clear from the start that we were not expecting the outreach at all. it came completely out of the blue, and it genuinely left us feeling grateful before we even walked through the door. it was a thoughtful gesture, especially considering it wasn't something they had to do, and it set a very positive tone for the evening. earls has always been one of our family's go to rotation restaurants for a few simple reasons: the location is convenient, the three hour parking makes things easy, the menu is great for sharing, and there are reliable plant based options that actually feel considered rather than an afterthought. it's been a steady, comfortable choice for us over time, which made this invitation feel even more meaningful in context. when we arrived, there was a bit of a wait after our 4:30 reservation, but it wasn't an issue and service recovered quickly once we were seated. the overall atmosphere was warm and relaxed, and the evening unfolded at a good pace without feeling rushed. our server, bien-sa, deserves a specific mention here because she really elevated the experience. she was friendly, attentive, and very organized without ever crossing into that overly check in heavy or intrusive style of service. everything felt smooth and well looked after, and she made the table feel comfortable right away. she also casually mentioned that happy hour had been extended until 6 pm, which was a huge bonus that added to the mood of the evening. matt arranged a selection of complimentary appetizers for the table, which we genuinely appreciated. we ordered a mix of familiar dishes and a few things we don't always go for. the calamari came out crispy and tender, the salt and pepper wings were hot and well seasoned, and the margherita pizza on thin crust was light, balanced, and not greasy. the crispy chili tofu and fries were also a hit with the vegan diners at the table, which is not always easy to do in a mixed group. there were a couple of small issues during the meal, but nothing that meaningfully impacted the night. a beer arrived in a chipped glass, which was immediately replaced and comped without hesitation, which we appreciated. one of the soft drinks was a bit flat, and the steak in the mini steak frites was slightly tougher than expected. these were all minor in the context of everything else and were handled or absorbed without stress. for mains, we had the chicken and ribs, grilled garlic chicken caesar salad, vegan pizza with kale and mushrooms, and the mini steak frites, along with truffle fries for the table. overall, everything was solid and consistent with what we've come to expect here. to finish the evening, we were surprised with three chocolate cakes, vanilla ice cream, and candles for the birthdays. it was a thoughtful touch and a nice way to close out the night without feeling staged or excessive. overall, the evening wasn't perfect, but it didn't need to be. what stood out most was the combination of genuine hospitality and effort from both matt and especially bien-sa. there was a level of care throughout the evening that felt sincere rather than performative, and that made a real difference in how the night came together. i also want to acknowledge something more personal here: i tend to be quite reserved in situations like this and often default to saying everything is fine even when small things could be better. because of that, i really notice when service feels naturally attentive without me needing to ask for anything. that was very much the case here. we left feeling well looked after, not because everything was flawless, but because the team clearly cared. we've been coming to earls for a long time, and this experience only reinforced why. we'll continue to return, and this visit will be a memorable one for all the right reasons. read more

From allergy requirements, to down-right ridiculousness, Earl's was a hit! Made resos' for 3 with a couple girl friends thanksgiving weekend, received excellent booth for us 3. Our server (Isabelle) was a great sport, even made light of my celiac disease and joked with us regarding suitable dishes. She was Johnny-on-the-spot with every question, even confirmed with kitchen staff before serving me a solid thanksgiving meal - celiac approved. (minus stuffing of course) After a half dozen drinks + shots, and ample 90's R&B discussion, we made the request to hear No Diggity (or anything similar) over the restaurants Sat. radio; Manager Marlo arrived at our table to comedically diffuse our request, citing diplomatic red-tape, but made good by providing another round of shots. True hero material. After a great night of hanging out, incredible service, and laughers by all, something was missing. Yet still an incomplete evening, and upon a small amount of encouragement, we seen 2 of the serving/hosting staff arm-wrestle. So, I popped into the new Earls joint at Metrotown, Burnaby, and it was my first time checking out this spot. I'm low-key missing the vibe of the old place where I used to clock in, you know? The new digs look good, but brace yourself--it's a madhouse, especially being in the hustle and bustle of Metrotown. Definitely worth snagging a reso to dodge the chaos. Props to the staff, though - they had their A-game on, managing the crowd like champs. It's a busy spot, no doubt, but they kept it real by organizing the waiting area so we didn't feel like sardines in a can. Now, about my Cajun chicken saga - asked for no potato salad and extra coleslaw, but it seemed like they missed the memo. Despite that little slip, still vibed with the overall experience. Just so you know, I'm an Earls Restaurant regular, and despite the Metrotown madness, they managed to keep the good times rolling. I went for dinner with a friend around 5pm on April 8th. I seldom write reviews and do not have accounts with Gmail so using my brother's account, reason why I took so long. DYLAN was our server. From my understanding, he had just started working for Earl's and my friend and I were totally surprised. His attention to detail and kindness, even surpassed the food, Prawn Rolls and Santa Fe Salad, we had. The rolls were just okay, yet the salad was delicious. I would definitely come back just for Dylan (reason why I'm giving it 5 stars). Thank you Earls and especial shout out once again to DYLAN! Second-to-none service and wishing him a great summer! We dined in on Friday last week. There was a 30 minute wait but the host at the door said she would do her best to get us in before. We ended up waiting close to 25 minutes which isn't bad compared to other fridays we've seen. Our server Emma was very nice and attentive and there was also a hostess Karen that brought our food and the bill who was very sweet as well. We wanted to note that the restaurant was very clean, we asked Karen about the new measures they are taking to ensure a safe visit and she told us that they sanitize the restaurant every 15 minutes along with a lot of other things. Phenomenal time! I went last night with some friends for a Christmas dinner and it could not have been a better experience! I have some fairly severe food allergies and usually don't go out but decided I would considering the occasion. The manager Brett took care of us because of my food allergies and went to the back to personally make my food and ensure it was safe for me to eat. The mushrooms were yum and the prawns added to the flavor - I found that the perfect bite consisted of a fork-full of one tortellini, one prawn, one piece of mushroom, and one veggie piece. Sooo good! Prior to receiving our entrees, I fell in love with the calamari appetizer we ordered for the table, especially the dipping sauce it came with (I would come back again and devour an entire order on my own). The calamari wasn't too thick or difficult to chew, like some calamari orders elsewhere might be, and the sauce was flavorful. Chicken wings were well seasoned and tender, you can tell that they are freshly made. We then each ordered some steak. I had the black truffle butter steak 6 oz, medium rare. I gotta say, the steak was cooked just right, not over, not under. I was impressed with the flavor. The side dishes is on the carb heavy side. It's got the mash potatoes, but also had sliced pumpkin. To me, pumpkin is considered carb, not veggies. I wish we could have something different. We ended up not able to finish all because it was too heavy. Other than that, everything was great. Our server gave us space and time to decide on what we wanted. She was professional yet friendly. I'll have to go back and try something else.

We were lucky enough to get a comfortable booth in the lounge, where we could relax, enjoy some great food, watch a little baseball, and most importantly, spend some quality time together. The service was excellent, the food was outstanding, and we never once felt rushed. It was exactly the kind of relaxed, enjoyable evening we were hoping for.
