The food here was very good! And the drinks were also wonderful! We had gone on a Friday evening and it was nice seeing so many people come out and dress up and enjoying themselves, enjoying the foods, and just having a good time! The main thing I want to focus on is our server for the night, Skye! She was the sweetest person ever! She kept checking in on us and making sure we were comfortable and that our food was to our liking! She had helped me pick out a cocktail and after I told her my allergies, she honestly went above and beyond to make sure that none of my food or drinks would touch anything I could possibly be allergic to! She kept coming back to check in to make sure I was okay and not having an allergic reaction or anything. Brunch Review: This was our first time trying BR and initially the encounter with the young hostess at the front was a bit awkward and strange. Here's what happened. Banter Room's patio has a great brunch vibe, whereas the inside is more for evening...sort of bar, mingle and drinks feeling. Right off, she told us that inside seating was the only option, and since we arrived shortly after they opened, there was plenty of room on the patio. I asked her why we can't sit outside....and she said, "well it's because it's only for the two of you, and the larger tables are for more people." Keep in mind, that there were three other tables sitting outside that were only a party of 2. It struck me as very odd, for some reason she just didn't want to seat us outside. I asked her, "We can't sit on the patio just because we're two people? That doesn't seem right, does it?" She agreed with me and had to ask her manager, and that's when she finally sat us, but even then with attitude. The Hostess lays the foundation of whether a first-time customer will become a return customer. The food: The French Toast was quite good....very tasty with interesting pairings with walnuts, caramelized banana and strawberry. Nice. The Salmon & Avocado Benny was completely cold, which was a shame because the flavour profile was done really well. The egg was poached perfectly and everything about it hit the spot, in terms of flavour, but I only finished one of the two, just because it was entirely cold...like it had been sitting for a while....maybe even by a drafty door. The Americano was surprisingly pricey just because it looked more like an espresso shot..that's how small it was. $5. Stopped in for brunch on a whim solely based on the fact that the restaurant was relatively full, so I was hoping for a nice brunch. The food did not disappoint. My mom had the Early Riser (eggs, bacon, sausage, toast) and I had the bacon Eggs Benedict. Both meals were well portioned and delicious. I thought the Benedict dish could have used a bit more hollandaise, but it was flavorful and the bacon was thick cut and delicious! Their potatoe side dish that came with both meals was really unique and tasty. It was similar to a baked hash brown dish. I don't know how else to describe it, but it was excellent! The eggs Benedict also came with a side salad that was fresh and the dressing was light but flavorful. Service was friendly and pricing was reasonable for the location and portions. Would definitely go back for lunch or dinner. We sat inside as the patio was full, but the patio was bright and engaging. Another great Dine Out option to bookmark. We tried Banter Room during Dine Out Festival for the first time during Dine Out and for $39, you're really getting a huge bang for your buck. For just $39 we got ALL these yummy eats. First impressions, I was really impressed. They've got a nice vibe going on inside and their patio looks super cozy. JOHNNIE WALKER BLACK DUMPLINGS I'm pretty picky when it comes to dumplings and to my surprise these were actually really good. These dumplings were hot, had lots of soup and meat, and the skin wasn't too thick and neither was it too thin. The fillings consisted of pork, Johnnie Walker black whisky, green onion and sesame oil. It also came with two sauces: sriracha aioli and a sweet soy. Definitely would order this again. The green curry was soo delicious with the salmon. Only critique I had was that the salmon was slightly overcooked for me. HONEY GLAZED CHICKEN Included mash potatoes, portobello mushroom gravy, veggies and honey glazed chicken. A simple dish. It was a bit cold when it came out but we loved the gravy - it had lots of flavour. The chicken itself was juicy and sweet! NEW YORK CHEESECAKE This was so delicious. After one bite I could tell that this was homemade or made in house. The goat cheese on top really made such a nice touch and I honestly never had goat cheese on top of my cheesecake but I loved it. The strawberry compote was delicious with the cake but I wish there was more of it drizzled on top. It was a great way to end our meal nonetheless. LYCHEE MOTHAF***** I drank on a Monday again.. popped in here for lunch and it was happy hour! we decided to order a few things to share and also had the house white. The fish taco was cooke to perfection- they were flavoured and the fish wasn't too oily. The fried chicken was actually covered in cornflakes which at first i wasn't sure how it was going to taste - but it was really good. The syrup / sauce was really good - balanced the chicken itself. The hummas and pita was interesting- there was a lot more dip then there was pita and when we ordered more it was pretty expensive. The tuna was also cooked to perfection a really enjoyed the bed of kale it came on too. all in all a great experience and the happy hour menu allowed us to try more than we normally would. read more

This is the FIRST TIME I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED BLATANT RACISM and DISCRIMINATION. My friends and I came to Banter Room on a Saturday night. We were a group of 11 girls celebrating a 30th birthday and excited to check out Banter Room after our a nice dinner down the street. Here is what happened: Entrance: We arrived at 12:30 am and ready to provide our IDs to the bouncer since there was no one in line. We were immediately told that they could not accommodate our group. Our group was told that our group was too big due to the bar requiring a seat for each individual to meet capacity regulations. This is absolutely understandable but we were confused at the reasoning for our particular party because the tables that they pointed out to us were empty. The bouncer explained that they couldn't seat us (even though the atmosphere was clearly a standing area) and nobody else was sitting at tables. A second BR employee told us that they were also at capacity and couldn't allow anyone in. Mid-conversation, a group of 9 guys arrived up to the front of the line and we're immediately let in. This was meanwhile we were being told that our group couldn't be accommodated due to being at "max capacity". My girlfriends and I were left shocked. We immediately left because it was clear that they did not want us to come in. We felt discriminated against as a group and we're left confused. We were extremely concerned at how we were being treated but felt like it wasn't worth our energy to reason or question their actions as it was clear the establishment did not want our business and had no practice in equal treatment. I never ever write bad reviews for businesses because it's important for me to not bash establishments for mistakes that can be corrected. This experience left us shaken by the feeling of being discrimination against as we were a large minority group and our birthday girl extremely disappointed. Multiple conversations with multiple employees with conflicting reasons why they wouldn't let us inside. I hope this review helps BR reviews their branding and customer practices. read more

UPDATED REVIEW! Banter Room is my new fave go-to place for Happy Hour! Their HH menu is not only affordable and extensive but the portions are nice too. My friend and I came in last minute because we wanted to grab a quick bite, we sat outside and it was so warm as they had these plastic insulators and heating. The hostess and servers are all so nice and friendly and very accommodating. From the HH menu, I decided to get the wagyu beef slider ($5), fish taco ($5) and the cajun waffle fries ($5). My friend ordered off the regular menu and got the creamy tomato soup ($6) and the steak and soba noodle salad ($16). The food came out fairly quickly and I was really surprised at how large the HH plates were, the wagyu slider I expected to be a mini one but it was actually the same size as a mcchicken which was not bad at all, there were tons of beef inside and it had crunchy onions and a really nice sauce. The fish taco was also really good, the veggies were super fresh and the fish was lightly fried and had a nice creamy sauce too. The cajun waffle fries were soo delish as well, it was a nice sharing portion for the two of us and it came with a side of ranch dipping sauce. My friend really enjoyed the creamy tomato soup, she said it had a kick to it. She said the soba noodle salad was okay once the dressing got all mixed in. Like most places in Yaletown, it's a bit on the pricier end. So if you're looking for cheap eats, this isn't the place for you. But if you want a damn good meal, some delicious cocktails, or a good brunch, then they are definitely worth checking out! I've visited the Banter Room a handful of times now, each for a different occasion, and all visits have been wonderful. The only time I haven't visited BR is for their brunch, so I can't speak on behalf of that, but I can talk about their awesome happy hour, cocktail, and dinner menus. A couple different things I've tried and loved from their dinner menu: + Jassy's Chopped Salad (my fave!) + Strawberry & Goat Cheese Salad + Creamy Tomato Soup (so creamy, so delicious) + Mac & Cheese Skillet (a must try!) + Zucchini Noodle Pescatore (another top choice!) + Spicy Chicken Sandwich (I'm a fan of anything spicy chicken, so this was already a win in my book) Their portions are fairly large for what you get, so I don't mind paying a few extra $$ if I'm getting good quality food and a large portion of it. Also, their double caesars on special for $7 on Sunday - perfect hangover special if you ask me! The service has always been top notch too - friendly servers, food and drinks come out quickly, which is always appreciated, especially when they're super busy on a Friday and Saturday night. Dropped in to grab a light dinner at someplace new. The inside of the restaurant is really adorable. Very trendy, with a lot of hard wood and the outdoor seating was 'garden party' inspired with an Alice in wonderland theme. I was disappointed by some of the food and drinks. The gnocchi was good and the superfood salad was fresh with tender chicken but the flat-bread appetizer was not something I'd recommend. It is soggy untoasted flat bread topped with hummus and basically salad on top. The drinks are pricey for what they are- $24 a shot. Red flag - They didn't ID. My first drink was watery and weak and when I asked to send it back they wouldn't and instead sent the bartender to hand deliver a second drink (which they charged me for). After that they changed my tables waitress. I was kinda confused by this whole dramatic situation over a returned drink and felt unwelcome so my partner and I left. read more
