What a gem! I love the ambiance and the service was spectacular. They make their own soda and it was good, I had the strawberry and it tasted like seltzer and grenadine. The crispy mushrooms were better than expected and the portion was huge. We had the pastrami as well. I think it was too cheesy and greasy. I wish it was just served on rye bread. But the taste was explosive, yum! The cheesesteak was a bit disappointing. I had the balboa, which is the Philly tradition. Sorry, it gets a B-. Earls is a hidden gem, a hidden gem that I recently found and I'm elated about it. We were in the mood for steak subs, but didn't want the run of the mill, usual, pizza place steak sub. I started yelping hard and found Earls within minutes. We ordered the Cheese steak w/onions, the Steak Frites sub, and some fries and onion fries. Everything was absolutely delicious. The cheese was plentiful and a great ratio to steak and bread, the flavor was delightful. The fries were perfectly cooked, golden, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The onion fries were petals of onion deep fried, you can't go wrong with that! Everyone was so kind, from the woman who took our order over the phone, to the people ringing us out when we picked up. I have to say, this is one of the most unexpected reviews I have ever posted. I had no idea that this place even existed when I was searching for a lunch option in Dover. A quick check of my yelp reviews indicated that Earl's steak sandwiches was an option worth investigating. So after a little bit of searching I found this place. A little bit out of the center of town but with plenty of parking, it was very accessible. When you walk into Earl's you are transported back to a 50s style roadside diner. I love the atmosphere and the people working there are very much invested and excited about their offerings. I found the staff to be funny, warm, and engaging. The young lady that waited on me was a pleasure. After she informed me about the specials I was compelled to order the fried chicken poutine even though that was absolutely not the reason I went to this place. If I had stopped at the fried chicken poutine, my rating would not only have been five stars but it would've been 5+ stars. This was one of the most enjoyable items I have ever had. It completely checked all my boxes. The french fries were crispy, the fried chicken was perfectly cooked and very tasty, the gravy was outstanding and not lumpy, the cheese curds melted beautifully, and the topping on this dish was the addition of several scoops of corn. Had I only known this, I most certainly would not have ordered anything else. And as you can see from the photo, there really are no additional words that need to be said. Earl should change the name of his restaurant to Earls fried chicken poutine restaurant. So the obvious question is why four stars? The name of the restaurant is Earls steak sandwiches, and I ordered a steak sandwich. Since that is the primary reason people will come here, the steak sandwich had more of an impact on my overall rating than the poutine. I am not saying the steak sandwich was bad, to the contrary, it was very good. The steak was flavorful, and certainly worth the money. But I have had five star steak subs at many places such as D'Alessandro's, Cleaver's, and John's roast pork. I know the difference between a four star and a five star steak sandwich. With just some minor changes the quality of this sandwich could improve dramatically and make Earl's a destination location. So I will be very specific. I ordered provolone cheese on my sandwich, and it was almost non-existent. There needs to be either a little bit less steak or a little bit more cheese to provide the proper balance. The steak was slightly over cooked, and just a bit dry. Having said that, the flavor was very good so just a little bit more attention will make a big difference. My last comment and probably the most important, concerns the roll. A perfect steak sub must start with a perfect roll. In Philly the best places use Amoroso rolls or they bake their own. There needs to be an element of crunch and texture with the roll. It also needs to be stable enough to absorb the juices but still maintain the ignorant integrity of the sandwich. Earl's suffers from the same problem that Bennett's sub shop has in Portsmouth. Their role is too soft and it does not provide the proper vessel for a steak sub of the highest quality. This is a pretty long review for fried chicken poutine and a cheesesteak. The reason I am doing this is because of two things. First, the chicken poutine is so freaking amazing that Earl deserves to be recognized for it. The second reason is that the staff and owners I have also put together a very high-quality steak and cheese sub that with very small adjustments could be a showstopper. I look forward to returning to Earl's and I sincerely wish them the best. They are a family owned operation that is clearly devoted to providing high-quality products and services. read more

The BEST cornbread I have ever had, I always make sure to take some home because it's just as good cold. I typically order the fried pickles and they are good but this Sunday they were the BEST I have ever had anywhere. I either get the pastrami Reuben or the pastrami sandwich, both never disappoint. Harmony and I returned two weeks after our first visit as I was eager to try their pastrami, and she was craving an Italian. Again, we were NOT disappointed. The pastrami was excellent in every way.. fresh, tender and a generous portion. My only complaint - a very minor one that was probably my fault - was that it came as a "sandwich"... I would have preferred a sub. (I need to read the menu more closely.) But it was still super good and I totally enjoyed it. Harmony loved her Italian as well. She said it ranked near - or even AT - the top of her list... even better than Moe's (and for her, that's saying a lot!) Again the service was efficient and pleasant. I told the lady that they really need to open another location closer to us! Had Earl's steaks last night. Ordered the "Balboa", "Steak Fries", Roast Pork, and griddle cakes. Balboa and roast pork were both delicious. My wife's steak frites sandwich was unfortunately missing the cheese curds and the scallions. Griddle cakes were really good. I enjoyed the sandwiches but overall I'd say the place was a little too much $$$. A $14 sandwich better be one of the best I've ever had and they weren't. I'd go back for the Balboa and griddle cakes but I'm not in a rush. That said, I hope they do well as I'm a proponent of local small businesses. read more

There was only one front of house worker and she killed it. Super friendly and handled everything and everyone quickly and with a warm smile. I felt very welcome. The atmosphere was very homestyle. This place feels like a great spot to refuel when you're hungry after a long day or just to come hang with friends to grab a beer and a bite to eat. You feel like you are being well taken care of at Earls. I cannot stress enough how good the food was. It surpassed my expectations. Places like this seem to be able to get away with serving mediocre dishes to people who couldn't care less but Earl's doesn't fall into that category. They serve quality meals made with love. Everyone keeps saying it, and it's true. Earls is a hidden gem. Tucked back on a side road in a little diner style spot. The fried chicken nuggets have to be the best I have ever had. Large chunks of white meat SO FRESH. The cheesesteaks are a good size, not overwhelming. The homemade cornbread melts in your mouth. I don't even like coleslaw and the coleslaw was great. Been here twice so far. Once for takeout and once for dine in. Food was excellent on both occasions. Their wings and sauce combos are spot on. I prefer the murder hornet sauce, spicy and sweet. Meal portions are just right, not huge but prices are appropriate for the size. My wife had shrimp tacos and loved them. My two year old who never finishes a meal, ate all of her chicken fingers. New, locally owned, family Restaurant in Dover (a little out of town). Tried their new Sunday (only) Brunch and the food is delicious. Service was great. Menu is diverse with many options (including Keto friendly). Everything is made fresh to order and daily. Had tried them for a Gourmet Steak sandwich earlier in the week and had to try their breakfast today. As for lunch, the Queso Fundito Steak Sub is literally to die for. Oh my this was a great place. Very unique. My Philly Cheese Steak was better than what I had in Philadelphia. Their onion petals were AMAZING. Fun place off the beaten path in Dover! We've wanted to come here for a while but haven't gotten the chance until today- it did NOT disappoint!!! Food was above average, but the experience overall was poor. Took about 20 minutes just to get a coke and a water. Place wasn't really very busy, and it took about an hour to receive our food order which was just a burger, a sub, and fries. Earl's in Dover NH is a must visit steak sandwich spot on Oak Street in Dover NH. Coming from Boston I haven't found a better steak sub in the area. I've now tried several of their sandwiches and they were consistent every single time. I've had the Cheese Steak, The MPO and the Balboa. All amazing! The ratio of steak to sub roll is right on target, while other area sub shops give you bulky sub rolls. I also tried their famous corn bread...WOW! it's right near/behind Mr. Mike's and Philbrick's.
