I was really excited to try this place because they are one of the few restaurants around Waikoloa that offer vegan options. The reviews looked good and so we drove up to try it. They had both indoor and outdoor seating, the indoor seating looked more like a bar setting, not somewhere you would necessarily want to hang around for a while to eat. The outdoor area had more tables but was pretty bare bones. There were some TVs that looked like they were mounted but none of them were on and the one by us looked broken. My husband ordered vegan nachos which said it came with melted shredded cheese. We were extremely surprised when they came out not with shredded cheese but with grated powder parmesan cheeze (that you would sprinkle on a pasta). I honestly thought there had been a mistake but when I asked about it they said it was correct. Honestly the worst nachos we've ever had. The grated parmesan didn't melt of all of course so we paid $20 for some dry tortilla chips with dusted cheeze lol. I am baffled why they didn't use actual shredded cheese that melts, especially because I know they had it since it was on my sandwich. I got the buffalo chick'n sandwich which was ok overall. I think if they had breaded the chick'n cutlet it probably would have been a little better. Even though it did have the buffalo sauce on it I felt like it was lacking some flavor - like perhaps a coleslaw or pickled vegetables would have helped. Overall we had high hopes for this place and were disappointed. I do appreciate they made an effort with the vegan options, I'm hoping they make some adjustments to improve the dishes though. read more

Not much of a wait on a Sunday evening during the shoulder season on the Big Island. My husband reported that the beer was warm and flat. The server told us their burgers are smash burgers so we couldn't choose how we wanted them cooked but the burgers came out with 2 regular patties stacked on top of each other. No smashing. No crispy edges. This was NOT a smash burger. The wings were suppose to be a lemon pepper dry rub but still came out with a weird coating. I would steer clear of this place. read more

After a morning at the beach we decided to check out this place ans happy we did! Sat on the outdoor patio. Service is leisurely paced which is fine as it's a vacation spot and it was friendly and fun! We began with some local beers - I had an Ole Brew IPA , it was good but wish it was colder! Food was great - best edamame have had anywhere. It was perfectly cooked and seasoned! Also had the fried pickles - also great - not in the slightest bit greasy and had a great crisp to them and the Kimchi nachos were really great - light and flavorful! After finding a quick spot for dinner and drinks near our hotel, this popped up. We were met by a friendly hostess who allowed us to sit anywhere and we picked the outdoor patio area. Unfortunately the rest of the dinner wasn't that great. The server eventually came over and gave us some time to order but was not helpful in explaining much. The beers on tap are located with a QR code and I chose the hop island IPA. Unfortunately it came out flat and was not cold. There was also nothing mentioning the option to purchase a flight of up to 6 pours which I had to ask about. We ordered wings which come either in 6 or 12 and we got the lemon pepper dry rub. They were very small and we originally asked for both ranch and blue cheese but only ranch came out. The ranch was only filled a quarter way up which hardly gave us any sauce. We also ordered the buffalo blue smash burger and the all American burger protein style (lettuce wrap). The burgers were good but could have been smashed just a little bit more. The fries also had a good crunch to them. Due to the bad beer, poor customer service and prices, I old not recommend this spot unfortunately. read more

We went to this restaurant the first night we were on the big island. We were staying on the Western side of the island and food didn't seem to be amazing near our hotel so we ended up here, hungry, and a little bit jetlagged and tired. This is a great place to eat if you're looking for something close by and delicious! I was really impressed with the food for this being a taproom, but the portions were a bit too big for us and some of the veggies on the burger were not ideal. Pretty mediocre. Food wasn't very good, Paniolo burger was dry and flavorless, cooked far too long and without seasoning. Coconut shrimp seemed pretty much out of the supermarket frozen food section. The only thing I can review is their inability to serve people. It very clearly states that the restaurant closes at 9:00 on their website; however, when we arrived at 8:20 they informed us that the kitchen was already closed. They refused to seat us or serve us a full 40 minutes before they "closed." We tried calling in advance but they do not have a working phone. Thankfully a nearby restaurant that closed at 8:30 was willing to take care of us. read more

On vacation, and this place was recommended to us by locals in the area. Sat outside, shaded by a tent from the heat, which made a big difference. (My sister was obsessed with a xmas Hallmark movie playing on a TV over my shoulder, and my mom kept pointing out puppy videos playing on the other TV across from me.) Our server was energetic and genuine. Even though we were the only ones sitting outside, we didn't feel as though we were forgotten, and our service was prompt. The food was fantastic! Lots of options. Everyone will be able to find something. My family ordered breaded pickles, a salad, nachos, two orders of pulled pork, two mocktails, two cocktails, and a margarita, so there is a lot of diversity on the menu. And the food was delicious! I've missed pulled pork since I've been here. My sister has a tree nut/sesame allergy and they were very cautious and aware. Everyone finished their drinks and cleaned their plate. This is bar food bar and grill type of place in the shops area of mauna lani by the fairmont orchid. The portions are big and food is good in a bar food extra fried kind of way. We ate outdoors which is basically just seating in the outdoor shopping plaza. There were big screen tvs showing a US Canada hockey game so this could be a good spot to watch 'the game' if you're into that kind of thing. Good drink/beer selection. Good service. read more

We ended up choosing A'A, a local micro brew IPA. The bartender was spot on and was a great host. We ordered some kahlua pork nachos that were late in coming and our bartender comp'd us a beer because of the delay. Nachos were good and filled us up. Pleasantly surprised by the Taproom, one of the few poppin places in the shopping center and makes sense since they are relatively new and good. On the better end of bar food. The spinach artichoke dip was delicious, definitely my favorite and the service was great! Probably the best spinach artichoke dip I've had. It was so cheesy, had plenty of chips, and the spinach and artichoke tasted not too soft. We had alot of fried food, so definitely getting a salad helped. We had the breaded pickles, lemon pepper wings ( bonus they let you sub out the ranch sauce) summer salad, and the spinach artichoke dip. The list of their tap originally brought me in and the skillet cookie. Unfortunately, I was too full for the cookie so next time. Main point of my review is the server. We were there on Monday but I forget his name. He was AMAZING. The only one waiting tables and he worked it! I've never seen such a great waiter. He seated tables, took orders, delivered and cleared plates. Everything came out 100% accurate. He was helpful with a great attitude. They're lucky to have such a cool employee. I got the k-nachos and really enjoyed them. They offer to add meat but I didn't do that and they were still so amazing. Def need to enjoy a bit of spice and Korean flavor though. read more

We just left our dinner here. Our waiter was Daniel. The bus person was extremely anxious to take our plates and Daniel was extremely anxious to get paid but wasn't anxious to check on the table. I was finishing my food which included chips and salsa. Then the salsa disappeared! I asked the bus person why she took the salsa while I was still eating and she said oh I don't know what happened to it. I had already paid and tipped $25 for minimal service and when I found Daniel he just kept walking and said ok she took your salsa. I would in normal circumstances expect when I said I was still eating for maybe an oh shoot sorry I took that let me get you another 25 cents worth of salsa. Wow. Talk about rude. We popped in for lunch on 12/7/24. They have indoor/outdoor seating and a small bar in the restaurant. Good place to watch sports with televisions visible from most seating areas. Service was great and the beer selection was first class. I counted over 50 fifty beer tap choices on the menu. With all of those choices my wife and I ordered our own six sampler taster so we could savor twelve of the fifty choices. They also have good options for non-beer drinkers as well; hard Juice & seltzers, hard ciders, craft cocktails and several wine choices. Pints are $8-$13. Here were some of our favorite beers: Pineapple Mana Wheat Froot Lupes IPA Dragonfruit Lychee Milkshake IPA Nitro Rubaeus Raspberry Ale Kewalos Cream Ale Da Hazy Light The food in a nutshell is what I would call standard pub offerings with a Hawaiian twist. I had the Kimchi Bacon burger and my wife had the El Scorcho Burger and we split the parmesan fries. Both were excellent burgers made with quality ingredients. We will be back next year for sure. Lunch for two people with a couple of beers and tip is going to be about $100. Great value. read more

We did have appetizer tots, wow huge portion, so better suited for 4+ or be prepared for leftovers if you also ordered dinner. (which isn't a bad thing either) We had a burger and pork sandwich and decided to go with both, fries and waffle fries. Man, they sure know how to fry... both the waffle and regular fries were delicious. The burger was the better choice, the pork sandwich was underseasoned, but the pork was super tender. I always start with food because to me that should always be the focus of the review. Had the burgers and for all I know these could have been cooked in a microwave. Salad had the dressing slopped into the bottom of bowl. Hostess not friendly. And here's a message for management that will probably not read this review; get your servers some help. There was one server, and she did a great job, but was clearly had too many customers and was the bartender. Good beer list. It was our last night of vacation and looking for a sit down dinner restaurant close to the Waikoloa Village where we were staying. The service here was excellent and the server so helpful in guiding us on the menu. The restaurant is located in an open air shopping center and we sat outside the restaurant in the main shopping cooridor. Inside ambience was typical for a bar and grill, lighting on the brighter side. Food overall was solid. The highlight for me was the onion rings. I liked the crispy batter and they had good flavor. I was excited to visit island hopper after having a great experience a few years back. My most recent visit left me wanting more.. the nachos were underwhelming, the cheese was hardly melted, there were some gnarly pieces of chicken, and I didn't love the mango in the pico de gallo. Another member of my group tried the teriyaki burger and enjoyed this option. It was close to closing, service was a little slow. There is seating both inside and outside, it was pretty windy in the evening so you may want to opt to sit inside to avoid things blowing off your table/food cooling down quicker than normal. I'd be open to returning and trying a few different menu items as I see other reviews speak highly of their offerings. Stop in and give them a try for yourself. read more
