I acknowledge that my experience at Early Harvest Diner is atypical of the other reviews here and possibly was the result of the staff having an off day. Nonetheless, my negative experience here compels this review. I arrived at around 12:30pm on a Saturday with a party of six for brunch. Given the ambiance and the menu's boast of housemade corned beef hash, my group was excited for our meal. The first sign that something was amiss was that our iced coffees arrived in plastic soda tumblers rather than a glass. This was the case even for the Nutella iced coffee, the premium iced coffee on the menu. Taking the presentation and taste together, my companions were unimpressed. While I empathized with their plight, I was pleased that I had dodged the experience by ordering a cup of drip coffee. I was soon proved wrong when I was brought coffee with a side of unmistakably sour milk. Still hopeful, my party awaited our meals. I and my companion across from me both ordered the J's Favorite. The bacon and cheese described in the menu were barely existent on my plate and not at all on my companion's. Another companion ordered a pancake which had completely adhered to what appeared to be a wet plate. Exasperated at that point, my party quietly endured our meal. To her credit, our waitress was extremely apologetic about serving spoiled milk. However, the myriad of issues with our meal and the substantial disappointment we felt after stood in stark contrast to what is reviewed to be, and might otherwise appear to be, a promising breakfast location. read more

Being new to working in the area, my husband and I searched for a lunch place and thought we would give this place a try. Much to my satisfaction I must say. The entire staff were very friendly upon our arrival and asked if the table they choose for us was adequate. How kind and thoughtful. My husband was in the mood for breakfast and I was in the mood for a salad and luckily the menu could accommodate us both. My husband's pancakes were delicate and tasty and his western omelet according to him "some omelets are dry, but this one is packed with fillings and moist, just perfect." My chef salad was wonderful. Sprigs and veges were fresh and grilled chicken was warm. Warm pita bread on the side was a welcome surprise! The house dressing was on the side and so tasty. Used to love going here, but had a terrible experience the last time which has left me no choice to leave this place one star. Ordered the Triple Double which always came with 2 eggs, 2 strips of bacon, a side and 2 shortstack pancakes the past 3 times I ordered it. This time however, I was given one large, but sad looking pancake instead. When I asked about this, the waitress said that's how they've always served the meal - not true, then proceeds to tell me that maybe I was mistaken and ordered the meal at a different resatuarant lol. Then the owner comes out (who I've never seen before. Apparently he hides in the back and doesn't greet customers.) and tells me he made the menu himself 2.5 years ago and that maybe there was typo. If that was the case, that should have been explained when I ordered. He made no attempt to make things right, and just walked away. Needless to say, I won't be back, which is dissappointing because I used to really enjoy coming here. read more

I never would have thought to put those ingredients together and it is incredible. I of course had to start with a grilled muffin. Mmmmm. I have been asked to edit my scalding review of the EHD due to some complaints, so I shall stick to the facts: My husbands bank card was left behind after purchasing three meals at said diner. The next morning at 9am. the owner attempted to use my husbands card to purchase restaurant supplies in the amount of one thousand dollars. Later that same day, my husband called to inquire if the card was left behind, but nobody could confirm or deny because the owner was out of office. A return call was made by an employee letting us know the card was safe and secure. At no time was there any mention of the (failed) attempt to use the card. Our bank's fraud department informed us and after obtaining proof from the bank, we called the police who went to the establishment. The owner said it was an error, but to date has made no effort no contact us to discuss or apologize. My review was too hurtful and negative, but him trying to use our bank card was OK. I'm a sucker for a killer eggs benny. Came here with an acquaintance. She got the corned beef eggs benny and I got the ham eggs benny. The ham was quality ham! Not the kind you find in the supermarket. The plates were pretty sizable too, I was stuffed after finishing my meal. One thing I didn't like was how the eggs were poached. I thought they were a bit too cooked for my liking (I like my yolk really runny on my eggs benny). And the hollandaise sauce was different than what I expected. It wasn't as flavorful and creamy. It seemed like it was just a yolk based sauce over the eggs benny. The home fries were good, nothing amazing. However, the service is really good! Our waitress was so sweet. I pretty much agree with Roby. The place looked modern and nice, I dug the vibe when we walked in. It wasn't a bad experience, but the looks were a bit deceiving. Food was average and service not so good. Asked waitress "What's the vegetable of the day?" she answers "I don't know, I haven't asked" and just stands there. Beyond the fact that she should have gone and asked... how does she not know this? She took a long time to take our drink order and a long time to bring the coffee. They had sugar packets not a sugar shaker. They had maple syrup on the table but not ketchup, mustard, or hot sauce; our food sat for a few minutes while the busboy went and got some. Maybe its just the NY Jew in me but a diner should have this stuff at the table. I had spinach & feta omelette, lots of spinach but not much feta and totally flat, not really an omelette. The woman had J's Favorite, found she it pretty average. The home fries had good flavor but skins/edges were mushy rather than crispy. Toast came amply pre-buttered which I loved but probably most do not. The music was 70s-90s rock ballads. And although the entryway, counter area, and full wall chalkboard was all hipstered out, the seats, chairs, booths, were all "classic fake leather diner" type stuff. All together it was kinda disjointed and odd, like 3 or 4 people with different ideas of what a diner was put it together. Met one of the owners, seems like a very nice guy. Quality and service has gone down, and boy do I wish the prices would as well. BF and I grabbed some breakfast the other day and it was disappointing, especially for a place that I used to love. We were seated after waiting half an hour and someone came by to grab our order rather quickly, but that was where the swiftness stopped. I have to imagine it was our waitress that caused the timing issue, as people around us, who sat after us received their food before we did. Annoying. I ordered a waffle with fruit and he ordered a triple double, which I suggest people avoiding. First off, the substitutions you can make are really silly. Instead of home fries you can either have spinach, avocado or fruit and thats it. No beans, no toast, no french fries, nothing else that other places might offer. When our food came out, we were somewhat disappointed. His 3 eggs scrambled really only looked like two eggs, and they seemed flat, cold and lifeless almost like they were pre-made. The bacon? Sad, small, cold, and not crispy. The only things he liked were the giant pancake and the fruit. My waffle? Just ok, seemed really dark, kind of cold and had no fluff, all crunch. I didn't have the patience to ask for a new one since I had to leave for work, so we just ate it and left. Overall our meal was $30, and for that price, I expect so much better. We also waited 40 minutes for our food. So, ya, quality dropped, and so did their service. Sad. read more

Really great food. Very friendly service. The menu is an extensive list of comfort food - just what you want from a diner - without being overbearing. They also don't put advertisements in the menu (I'm looking at you, North Ave Diner). The best part is that they elevate the experience with things like fresh squeezed juice, real maple syrup, and locally-sourced ingredients. The end result is that it's an authentic diner experience, but you don't walk away feeling greasy and bloated. And I like that the servers' uniforms are local Wakefield sports teams. There is a definite sense of class here (as far as diners go), with nice booths, lamps and overall decor - though a couple small aesthetic improvements would finish the job. For example, while I like the chalk diagram of massachusetts inside, it could be better drawn, and just feels a little dusty and sloppy. It's a great idea, but it would look even better in paint. (I do like the ever-changing chalkboard wall on the "waiting area" side - though I wouldn't want to brush up against it!). The interior lighting feels too bright and stark, dim those suckers and/or get softer bulbs! I also wish they'd get rid of the tacky backlit sign outside - something wood would be much nicer. Anyways, clearly I'm nitpicking, and probably being a snob. Certain restaurants (like Zuzu's, or The Porch on tuttle street) really go 110% and make the town a nicer place to be with great signage and curb appeal. Early Harvest Diner doesn't QUITE reach that point (hopefully they will with time as they become more established! Business seems to be booming). I am only even saying these things because, with their numerous other classy touches, you can tell the place WANTS to be at that level... it just needs a few hints for the finishing touches. But hey, at least the food, service, and menu is great! That gives them a 5/5 for me. read more

Went there today and got the ultimate veggie omelette which was giant and delicious: All if the food here is so good and they've really done an excellent job with the outside seating during the pandemic. Service is still surprisingly fast and I everyone is so nice. All food containers / silverware is disposable which I appreciate as it adds a level of security. If you are on the fence you should check this place out. You should also tip them more than 20% as this is a weird time and they are essentially risking their lives to give you some great food and normalcy. read more

I wanted so much to like this place. The ambiance and the crowd are pleasant. Couples, families on a weekend brunch. The decor is relatively stylish and everything looks clean. The food, however, was very disappointing. My pancakes were okay but my husband's eggs benedict were HORRIBLE. They were extremely sour. I was trying to figure out what happened, was it too much lemon in the hollandaise sauce? Oh wait, that's vinegar. So maybe they used pure vinegar to poach the eggs in? Or both? It was almost unedible. I ended up picking the corned beef hash from it since my husband has started eating my pancakes. He was hungrier than I was. Also, the coffee was too acidic :( I couldn't be brave enough to order more. I couldn't complain either. Our server was nice. I am sorry to be writing this about them. My friend and I randomly stumbled upon this place because we were looking for somewhere to meet in between where we each live. We have now been twice and we both really like it! Must have: Nutella iced coffee...so good! Also, probably you should get a grilled corn muffin as an appetizer. Totally worth it. We have tried the waffles and an omelet and both are really good. It is the best corn beef hash I've ever had, just a note it is made there and it is real so it isn't like the canned stuff. The fresh squeezed orange juice was amazing.
