This place repairs amps and other gear for companies like SIR. Do NOT take anything of personal value in, otherwise you will pick it up in pieces. The unprofessional attitude and lack of care whatsoever are mind-blowing. This repair shop is listed in the Line 6 authorized repair shop directory: 1. The workbench looks like a pigsty: stuff everywhere, cables, screws. Ever watched the show "Hoarders"? 2. The repair shop room is inside a rehearsal space that nobody guards. Anybody can just walk in and snatch your piece of gear. 3. The process is to just leave your piece of gear with a post-it note. You will not get any proper receipt. 4. After phoning and explaining the exact problem with my Line 6 processor, spending the time to bring the processor in, leaving it, I was told 4 days later that he "will pass on the repair"....it's "too much of a PITA". OHHH! AND HE ALSO STRIPPED ALL OF MY SCREWS AND DIDN'T SCREW HALF OF THEM IN PROPERLY!!! WHAT A PROFESSIONAL SHOP! So this "expert" does not know what's inside, opens it up anyway, messes everything up, and then does nothing, leaving the processor lid with half the screws sticking out. "EARS: Expert Audio Repair". What "expert"? An authorized repair shop is where you do all you pain in the rear... repairs. Don't want to do the work, then just SAY SO! Don't know what's inside the Line 6 processor? DON'T BE AN AUTHORIZED LINE 6 REPAIR SHOP! Avoid. I will personally make it a point to have Line 6 do something about this. Don't bother. Brought an old solid state Echoplex in here. Big deposit, long wait time, didn't give me any confidence in the repair. They told me for weeks it was the motor. I HELPED THEM SOURCE A MOTOR because they couldn't find one. I brought it in & they told me the old motor "just started working." And then charged me for the repair to get my piece back. Luckily, I convinced them to give me a discount for the motor I'd found. Now months later, I plug the unit in and it's dead. Also, the screws to the top plate are missing, and so is the footswitch that I never should have left with them. Quality you can't trust. read more

Also known as EARS http://earsnyc.com, there are very few places (if any) in all of New York in which you can get your vintage keyboard (Wurlitzer, Rhodes) or synthesizer (Yamaha CS-80, Roland, Oberheim, Sequential) repaired at all. That's why, when I heard about these guys, I was excited that they were a good resource for musicians here in the New York area. Unfortunately, the adage of "if something seems too good to be true, it probably is" applies here as well: they are WAY overpriced (bench rate over $90/hr) and the service is absolutely abysmal. You would think that the technician should be the customer service guy instead of the other way around in this place! Now, I'll have to ship things out of town! A travesty in a music town that New York is supposed to be. These guys will just waste your time as well. I brought in a repair in which I paid a large but fair deposit on getting an estimate (about $175 with tax). Now, it took me a while to pick it up (about five weeks) when I decided to not have it fixed by them (it was just way over the top too much--over $1000), but I DID pay for them to look at it, the least they could do was hold it until I could rent a car and pick the darn thing up. Instead, they whined and whined at least once a week. Six months later when they initially requested a $500 deposit on the unit and, after I agreed, they changed their mind, just like that, decided not to work on it! I give these guys a big 2 fingers up--read between the lines! All in All, the technician is top notch, but not worth the hassle, the WHINING and the price. read more

I brought my EBS Gorm bass amp (from the 1990s) to EARS since it wasn't working right for several years and I wanted to start using it for recordings. It was making awful buzzing and crackling noises. A few years ago, I replaced the speakers and the tweeter but this didn't solve the problem. I sent it to another repair place (recommended by EBS) but they found nothing wrong with it and so I just let it sit around without being used for a long time. I remembered EARS because I brought this amp and my other EBS equipment there for successful repairs around 15 years ago; I decided it might be worth the drive to Manhattan which is over 90 minutes away. Doug repaired the Gorm saying it was good as new, but when I tried it home, the same buzzes and crackles happened as if nothing was done to it! I recorded the noises and sent the recording to Doug so he could hear what it was doing. I brought the Gorm back to EARS again and while I was there I played my bass into it but there were no noises! Apparently, there was an intermittent connection somewhere inside because the noises only happened sometimes, inconsistently. Doug did a lot of extra digging inside and solved the very difficult, mysterious problem. Not only that, he didn't charge extra which was extremely generous of him. My EBS Gorm sounds fantastic and noise-free now. It was worth all of the driving back and forth to Manhattan. I brought in my Yamaha digital piano for repair of a broken key. The person I spoke to was Doug, and he was by far very nice and helpful. He definitely seemed to know his stuff, and has been doing repairs for a very long time. This place gave my Orange Amp Head back in the same condition I gave it to them... broken. He claimed to have done all these repairs over the course of the week. So I sat in 5 hours of traffic between NJ and NY, only to come home to a broken amp that he didn't do a damn thing to. They lied and said the problem of crackling, popping, and whistling was gone... but I came home and plugged right in and THERE IT IS. And guess what?
