Jude did an excellent job on my NAD 3020 integrated amp. It had always sounded good but had idiosyncrasies that I accepted as typical of a vintage audio component from eBay. It worked well enough for my purposes, I told myself. The built-in phono stage wasn't exactly usable, but I had my own external preamp that I liked, and there were times the sound would cut out if something got ever-so-slightly jostled, but then it stopped producing sound from the left channel altogether and the quirks stopped seeming so cute. I called Jude and described the problem. He picked the amp up and returned it sounding better than ever. I now have a restored amp that sounds great for less than I paid for it in its rusty, loose condition years ago. I would note that the quoted time frame was the Sunday following a Wednesday pickup, and it did take some phone tag to get the unit back, which ended up being two weeks after I first handed it off. My guess is that because we live in totally different parts of the city, Jude was trying to time the repair relative to when he could feasibly come my way, and from what he told me, the repair was somewhat more complicated than expected once he got around to it. Notably, this was during the stretch of winter when there were the two huge storms within a couple of weeks of each other, so that didn't help either. Delays like this obviously seem inherent to a one-person home operation, and I wouldn't have expected such a quick turnaround if not for the original quote (and other reviews mentioning quick turnarounds). He was always friendly and polite on the phone even as I worried I was pestering him. Overall, I felt the service lived up to my expectations. Given that he's a genuinely nice person providing a specialized service for reasonable prices and will pick up and drop off your gear for you (even if you don't live anywhere near Flatbush), I can't complain--just unfortunate timing that I found myself without a working stereo system out during a period when I was barely going outside. Still, I have a feeling it'll be sounding great for many seasons to come. read more

Jude picked up and dropped off my 25 year old Creek 5350SE Amplifier and did a great job alleviating the amp of the crackling on both the input selector and the volume control, which is typical of this amp after a few years. He came and tested the input impedence of my speakers and made sure the cabling back to my speakers was working and waited until we could confirm everything was working as close to spec as possible. We've gone months without music because something was wrong with the volume output of our receiver. After trying the basic and cheap options first and failing, it was put on the back burner My girlfriend's birthday was coming up and she was out of town, and I found Pro Audio and Jude The Electronics Wizard off of a Reddit post. The TL;DR summary is this: Jude will go above and beyond for you. I paid him (a very reasonable $100 including pickup and delivery/return) to do a cartridge upgrade on my turntable. When it turned out that said turntable was on its last legs (kids, avoid turntables with important plastic parts, because they won't last) to the point that moving it around (for Jude to pick it up, bring it back to his place, work on it, bring it back to me, etc.) caused the damn to break, he pledged that he'd do everything he could to make me/it whole for no extra charge. Trying to fix it with replacement parts? No extra charge. Moving the cartridge to a new turntable? No extra charge. A friend of mine was responsible for me finding out about Jude and Pro Audio Repair, something I have already thanked him for. Jude is a person one is only rarely fortunate enough to run into in today's world. He is a genuinely warm and friendly soul, who is not driven by attempting to maximize his financial gain in every transaction. From what I had read, I was lucky that he picked up the phone when I first called, as he apparently doesn't always do so, given what others have written. I described what it was that I needed - to have a 1980s vintage Luxman Equalizer inspected and brought back up to spec if necessary. I was ready to meet him at his listed address, but, as others have written, he came to my address, picked the unit up, and ultimately, brought it back to me repaired. And, as he had said at the outset, there was no bench fee charged. While I wouldn't say his fee was inexpensive, I don't think it was unreasonable either. And, when you figure in pickup and delivery, indeed, it was quite reasonable! And, on top of his skill in working on our electronics, he is possibly one of the more enjoyable individuals any of us will have the pleasure of doing business with in our day to day interactions. My experience with Jude and Pro Audio Repair was absolutely exceptional. While my 70s-era HH Scott A437 Amplifier still worked, it had been cranky for years, with a volume knob that had to be futzed with constantly or else the sound would drop out. It was crackly, and certain inputs and settings simply didn't work. I called Jude, and a little more than 24 hours later I had a fully serviced and repaired amp that sounds better than it probably has in 30 years. It doesn't crackle at all, every input works, and the volume adjusts perfectly. I couldn't believe how good it sounded when I played an album for the first time (the first song I played on it was King Crimson's "Lizard"). After calling and describing my amp, he had me send over a few photos. He was able to quickly provide me a quote (which proved accurate, and that he stuck to), and then came and picked up my amp from in front of my apartment building. After he picked up my amp, he texted me that same evening to tell me that it was serviceable and when he could have it back to me. The next night, he returned it. There was a $40 pick-up and delivery fee, which was well worth the convenience. Jude is great, because not only is he an expert, but he's easy to talk to, knowledgeable, and just plain friendly. I really appreciated the tips he gave me about protecting the fuses from power surges, and it was convenient to be able to call or text him. We had a vintage stereophonic receiver that took a spill shortly after it was gifted this past Christmas, and while the audio components survived we lost all of the lights on the front panel. I took a cursory glance under the hood and realized that none of the bulbs had broken, and this was more likely a cracked board or power supply issue. Definitely past my skill level to fix, especially considering how complex the build for this particular piece was. My awesome, 1990s JVC receiver--after decades of flawless service--started to cut in and out. JVC won't support anything prior to 2010, so I started search for help, and came across Pro Audio Repair. I called at 8 pm expecting to leave a message, and Jude picked up. He told me to send him a photo of the front and back of the receiver, but first to check the speaker wires to make sure none were touching. Sure enough, one of the wires had slipped out. I trimmed and re-stripped all the ends, and it's sounding as good as it did 30 years ago. Jude could have told me to drop off the receiver and charge me a minimum fee, as many places do.
