I will continue to call out businesses that discriminate against our most vulnerable populations by refusing to take cash. What groups does this exclude most commonly? The homeless, who often have only cash, and the undocumented, who have more difficulty getting credit cards, etc. Cash is legal tender and does not expose you to fraud, and every business should accept it. They make good smoothies, I'll give them that. But every time I order it is SLOW. I've ordered both with 1-2 people ahead of me and with nobody ahead of me and regardless it takes 15-20 minutes. The people that work here are not very bright. I watch them complete 2-3 other cleaning tasks or goof around with their coworker or whatever before they even start to make my drink. I ordered today and I heard the worker actually tell a woman that attempted to order after me "just letting you know it's going to be a 15-20 minute wait, ha ha, we have like 4 smoothies to make" and she walked away. Imagine that you tried to give Earthbar your business 9 times over the course of two weeks. Here is a snapshot of my experience: 4 times = walk in to order and they are closed, though their business says "open" and their hours are advertised as open 3 times = order on Postmates, order states complete - walk in to pick up my complete order, and they are closed 1 time = success! Walk in and Earthbar was open as advertised, and they made the smoothie - yay 1 time = walk in to pick up "completed" Postmates order, and they share they never received it. Delicious flavor, disappointing texture. Ordered the Açaí Superberry bowl last time, but they were out of açaí paste so went with the PB Protein bowl (banana, peanut butter, & spinach base). Both tasted great, which especially surprised me for the latter because I'm usually not one for spinach/green drinks. However, the smoothie itself is almost soupy which makes it more of a drink with toppings than a proper smoothie bowl. It's runny and cumbersome to eat with a spoon. Nevertheless, the toppings in Superfood Crunch have a great texture and taste so definitely reccomend that for any base you pick. Really wish they had firmer smoothie bases, that's the only reason I usually end up going to Palm Açaí over here. read more

Psyched to have a smoothie bar in South Berkeley, even though it is part of Equinox. And the smoothies are great and yes, they cost $9, and that sucks, but I feel like that's the going rate these days. They have a whole menu of various smoothies, nothing to crazy, but your usual suspects - blueberry, acai, etc.. They also serve up acai bowls that I've yet to try, and have some pre-made healthy meals from quinoa bowls to soba noodles with proteins. Not an earth shattering local business, but a nice addition to an area with a dearth of food options and healthy quick ones at that. read more

They also have a loyalty program where you spend so much and they give you so much back. I also recommend the "Heat" energy drinks, pre workout! They're so on point! I had the Muscle Up smoothie and I was shocked it tasted so bad. I was thinking it would be a nice tasty banana flavored smoothie. It tasted like chalky paste. I drank about 1/2 of it and that is only because I was so hungry and needed the protein. The rest was poured down the drain. I paid $10.00 for it and I didn't get my moneys worth at all. I've had some good acai bowls here in the past, but there have been a ton of issues recently: 1. As others have noted, it's unexpectedly closed sometimes. 2. Sometimes they're open... but out of fruit. 3. The caps on the acai bowls don't fit. 4. Got frozen blueberries in my acai bowl (they weren't defrosted). This made them clump together and caused about half the bowl to be pretty much inedible. Not sure what's happened recently, but my odds of having an okay experience here went from normal (90-100%) to something like 25%. read more

This location is woefully understaffed. Even when properly staffed the employees are untrained and have no clue what they are doing. If this wasn't inside of my gym I'd avoid it at all costs. After a brunch in Berkeley Saturday morning (7/7) my friends and I were walking to the Ashby flea market when we stumbled upon equinox. We saw Earthbar from outside and although my friends were full I decided to get a smoothie. As I walked in I saw only one employee who was working near the coolers but he immediately greeted me and asked how my day was going. After talking about the world cup for awhile he explained the menu and found me the right smoothie. Blueberry Bliss. It was really tasty. I then got his name (Bryce) and told him I'd be back. It's got the usual New Age-y ingredients, vegan and otherwise, but if you're in the area and craving a protein-packed smoothie instead of a fruity sugar bomb, it's great.
