I've had this service since June of 2021, my family and I have had nothing but problems day in day out. Week after week. My kids sometimes have to use the internet for school when they're out and the connection wouldn't connect to anything. I've called so many times and they say that they run a check to see what the problem is but nothings changed. It came to me getting another internet service line in the place just so they can keep up and not be behind and THAT service (T-Mobile) is better. 5g and can hook up how many devices you want to. I was foolish enough to signed contract to find out they raise the rates after 6 months into the contract. And you can do nothing about it. The only reason i put one star is bc i had to to post this.. I rarely do reviews on a company but this company is ridiculous i paid my bill on the 16 of January and still to this day have no services and i have called 12 times gotten hung up on and called back just to be told we can your money but the back office cant restore your services it will be another 24 to 48 hours i have been told that 9 times since the 16 of January this and there customer service sucks they have no manners and there attitudes are horrific.. Charter customer of Earthlink when they started in Pasadena, CA... Just today, and only because none of my websites parked at EL would come up, did I call customer service. After fruitless wait times on hold, asking for a US based CSR, I started Googling "earthlink complaints." Lo and behold, within minutes, did I see that Earthlink was bought in 2016 by a firm that then sold the consumer assets/accounts to Trive Capital, Dallas, earlier this year 2019. Now I'm reading consumer complaints from similar long time subscribers like me. If you're in the same boat, I believe there may be enough here for a class action law suit. All of my website property access has been removed, and I have no access. From others I've found out that this has happened to other long time accounts. While I didn't change from Earthlink when I did have other personal email options, I'm realizing there's no reason to continue paying for a service I don't have. Horrible, just horrible. My router can't find the internet (an Earthlink router). Service is awful, so many "I'm sorry". If they are sorry why can't they fix it. I have been an Earthlink subscriber since the 90's and the main office was in Pasadena. I guess management doesn't care about the reviews. I am tired of a guy named "Fred" who is not "Fred". Very disappointed in this service provider we had service for 3 months and called in twice for issues and having to reconnect the internet to every device every time we used it and the lady said that she fixed it but lied then never made a note on the account so when we called to cancel service because of the problem they offered a month of free crappy service and then charged us 200 dollars because we canceled due to the bad service and lack of help and refused to refund us because of their techs neglected issue to put notes on the account to prove anything was said! I signed up with Earthlink on November 10, 2020, withTyran, who told me I was calling Florida. Tyran assured me that I could purchase my own equipment at Walmart and to get the type I would need by calling the installer. Well on November 12, 2020, after they took out $79.95 from my checking account,I was told that the installer would put his equipment in and not mine. It was at that point that I decided to cancel my order. A woman named Patience helped me reassuring me that they would refund my money into my checking account. I called again on November 17th because I've never received the credit, and Chris helped me. I was on hold for over one hour and then was disconnected. I called back the following day November 18, 2020, and was helped by Pete. He told me that they would send me an email showing that they had given me a refund. I called again today November 23, 2020 and James helped me. He actually admitted to me that Earthlink put the credit back into my checking account but then removed it. I called second time on Monday November 23, 2020 and spoke with Vivivegan. He told me to write an email to Earthlinkdr@earthlink.net. I did write a detailed email to them. In the meantime I actually drove over to my credit union where my checking account exists. Mimi Garcia at the credit union told me that they have no record whatsoever of Earthlink issuing me a credit. I have to tell you that every time I called Earthlink the person answering would read off of their script trying over and over and over again to get me to sign up for Earthlink I want my refund and again notice that James at Earthlink admitted that they credited my account with my refund but then removed it. Liars! When I set up services I told them that I travel for work and asked how that would work. I was told that if I move and they don't provide internet at my new location there would be no charge because "it would not be your fault if we don't service the area". I was told if my new location did allow services to continue and I chose not to transfer services that there would be a $200 disconnection fee....well 2 months later as I said, I had to move...then while on the call the person says there will be an $80 connection fee if my new home was serviced by then, I was never told this and said well lets hope not so I can be done with this company....after putting me on hold and disconnecting my call, I had to call back three times to be told I would be charged the $200 disconnect fee....I asked that they pull the recorded conversation and of course they don't record their sales calls, because they lie to get you started and then blame you for believing them! So for starters when I initially applied they tried to sign me up for the package they were pushing even though i told them i wanted a higher package. So I had to be transferred to another agent. Both agents tried to push their cyber security package multiple times each. I'm completely dissatisfied with the service its slow and i barely use it my phones data is faster and more reliable which is saying something. So I called to try and cancel, when I'm told that i have a 12 month contract and thus there is a termination fee of 200$. This is the first I've heard of this. I cant afford that i only receive ssi that's a quarter of my income for the month. I ask what's going on and they tell me i agreed to it that the sales associate should have not only explained but i should have gotten and email and a piece of snail mail. not only did both associates who handled my sale not tell me that i was agreeing to a contract by having their service installed. that if i didn't cancel in the first 30 days i was locked into a 12 month contract. i didn't get an email seeing as they didn't put in my full email and i never received a letter usps is spotty about when they actually deliver things but that's neither here nor there. so their contract wasn't explained to me in any method. so I'm being locked into using a service that i no longer want by a contract I didn't agree to. If you could give negative stars, this company more than deserves it. My service was supposed to be, $39.95 a month. They charged my accound, $395.95, which put me in a horrible financial situation. I called, and asked for them to reverse their mistake immediately. They told me it would be 4 to 6 weeks to correct their mistake, and basically to deal with it. My bank went after the money, and got it back in 3 days, (Chase thank God), and I closed my account, opening a new one, so they couldn't take any more out, "Mistakenly." I have been a customer of Earthlink since 2000, yes fifteen years. I originally relied on them for internet access and also email. As technology evolved I ultimately dropped my internet service but continued using them for email. I have been paying $7.95 per month for some time now and realized that the service really wasn't worth that much to me any more. On the web site it states to downgrade or cancel your service call their toll free number. To find the right department via the automated phone service was a nightmare but after multiple calls and about 20 minutes I finally got hold of Dave Torres who said he could help. He looked up my account and thanked me profusely for being a customer for 15 years. He said that that was unusual (you're about to learn why!). I asked Dave to downgrade my account from the Premium email service. He asked why and I said it was because it was not worth $7.95 per month to me. He put me on hold and then came back to tell me that there were no less expensive options available to me. I then told him that in that case I wished to cancel. He informed me of all the bad things that would happen if I canceled; like "losing all your information." I said please cancel the account. He put me on hold and then came back to offer me a $2 discount because I have been such a loyal customer. I told him that if he valued loyal customers then he should have offered the $2 discount before I said I wanted to cancel. I told him that I don't like to do business with companies that don't value my patronage until I'm ready to leave. I asked him to please cancel my account. The guy continued tirelessly to get me to accept the lower rate. I asked him to please cancel the account multiple times. We were stuck in a loop. It wasn't until I threatened to write a complaint about Earthlink and about him personally that he conceded to cancelling my account. Gang, if this is how they treat a customer of FIFTEEN years then you do not want to do business with them. Good riddance!!! read more

Have been an EarthLink customer since 2001! I am an email only customer & subscribe & pay on an annual basis! They have billed me 3 times for my service this year! Dealing with their billing department is like dealing with aliens from another galaxy! After dealing with them for a full week it looks like an almost worthless pursuit! Make that MINUS 2 stars. Story update. Because I was a fool with a stored credit card to pay my bill, EarthFINK decided to ding me for a "reactiviation" charge 3 days after I canceled. After causing near financial ruin with the unexpected $95.00 fee, and over an hour of "chatting" with the "Support Specialist" online I was able to convince them of their error and have the charge reversed. If you are stuck with this crappy service, so sorry for you. One bit of advice though- do not use the phone support. It will raise your blood pressure and you run the risk of scaring everyone within earshot. Hop online- provided you have an actual connection- and try the chat support. This group seems to at least had access to a clue- after you wear your fingers out trying to show them their errors. By far the WORST company I've EVER done business with. read more

If I could leave a minus count on the stars I would. Earthlink Accounting lost our business hosting account for them. We received a vicious letter on the 15th of January stating we were two (2) months (December 2020 and January 2021) past due and if not paid in full immediately the account would be closed and referred to collections. THE FACTS: We have been with Earthlink since 2008 (13 years!) and during that time we have NEVER been in arrears. The December 2020 Invoice was due on December 29, 2020. We mailed a company check on December 17, 2020. Earthlink cashed that check on January 19, 2021. The January 2021 Invoice was due on January 29, 2021. As of the date of Earthlink's nastygram we had yet to receive the January 2021 Invoice. There were TWO WEEKS left prior to the January 2021 being due but we were being advised that it was PAST DUE. The combination of the December 2020 Invoice (for which we had sent payment that took them a month to cash) and the January 2021 Invoice (which was not due for another two weeks) resulted in the ugly past due notice and collections threat. That same day we called Earthlink. There was not a soul available who would agree that being hit with a past due and collections notice on these two Invoices was unacceptable. We paid the total amount over the telephone; the December Invoice for which we had sent a check several weeks prior to their notice (and on time) and the January Invoice which was not due for another two weeks. This was done solely to keep the account active as we were advised service would be cut if we did not pay. Fast forward to today January 25, 2021 -- we are in receipt of a FINAL NOTICE from Earthlink for the entire amount we paid ten (10) days ago. Another call was placed to Earthlink. The first representative advised me we owed one month's charges. The second representative advised us there was a check in the mail refunding the entire amount. The third representative advised us there was a one month's credit on the account. These three people were consulted in the never ending battle to find someone who knew what they were doing. (Spoiler alert -- there is no one who knows what they are doing, not even on the supervisory level.) While on hold with the third person the line went dead and then switched over to a satisfaction survey. They will regret that move! Our IT people are working on moving the account to another provider now. Earthlink obviously has no concept of customer loyalty. They do not need to kick us to the curb after thirteen years of business; under the circumstances we will gladly step over that curb and move on. read more

Dreadful, even unethical behavior in my opinion related to 4g service. They cut off service quickly and add surcharges for data to reestablish data, but cannot provide any evidence of usage. India call center is really bad. They try to pump up level of service but cannot respond to requests for information on activity/usage to justify the charges. Repeated attempts to acquire detailed usage information. It was even very hard to cancel service. This may be worse than Comcast, which is quite a statement! (should be libel/slander to say 'worse than Comcast.'). Systems and customer support are not well integrated, training is poor, policies are poor... read more

I called EarthLink to get internet in the rural area where I live. Because I no one I'd contacted prior could provide service, I questioned the sales rep over and over about their ability to provide service to my location. I was assured that it would not be an issue. I agreed to the service and paid the installation fee. I gave them my debit card number to pay the fee, but they could not get the charge to go through. I gave them another debit card and again the charge would not go through. Because I had just moved, I had a balance on my credit card and did not want to use it, however using the credit card was the only way to get the service. 5 days after providing my credit card number, I was told that EarthLink could not provide the promised service and that I would see a refund in 3 days. 3 days? I'd already been paying interest on the fee, and now they say they can't do the install AND will hold my money for 3 more days? I asked to speak to a manager. No manager was available so they were going to call me the following day, which they did. But, it was not a manager calling. It was the same person who called me the day prior. He confirmed that no service was available and it would be 3 days before they could refund my money. So asking to speak with a manager stalled my refund for a service they could not provide. This company makes false promises to get your money and then holds it for 10 days--collecting interest on it while rejected customers don't get their service and have their funds held. Stay away from this false promise making company that will take your money knowing they cannot provide the services promised. read more

I would highly suggest you do not use EarthLink for internet service. I signed up with them when moving to a new city. The customer service is so awful. I couldn't reach anyone who could help me with my issues and there was always a long lag/delay in the conversations with the customer service team. I cancelled my service with them and they still continued to charge me. Wasted another 30 minutes calling them to ask about the charge after I cancelled and had a cancelation confirmation code with them. They transferred me 3 different times and finally told me they would refund me the amount. Let's see how long it takes to get the refund. read more

i literally put in an order on friday for a package that is only $21 the receipt for the order said $21.90. now they are adding packages and claiming i have to pay $54 for something i did not even order. the internet wasnt even connected and they stating i have an "outstanding balance". do not get. this is very upsetting and so unprofessional. how can you charge for stuff that wasnt ordered or set up ! i do no recommend, its safer to pay a little more for the sense of security that the company wasnt going to throw in random charges . dont do it; not worth it at all!! read more

My most recent experience dealing with Earthlink for my sister reminded me why I dropped them a few years back. My sister's wireless router stopped working and she could only get internet access if she connected directly to the Earthlink modem and not the Linksys router I had set up behind it. I spent a couple hours trying to get it back up and running only to be frustrated and figure the Linksys had died, so I sent her on her way to get a new router. A couple days later with new router in hand, I work on getting it configured and ran into the same issues. I broke down and called their tech support only to be told they will not help troubleshoot the issue unless you subscribe to their home networking product for $7.95/month. After a bit of arguing and talking to a supervisor, indicating that I would not pay for the additional subscription service and they could help me or they would lose my sister as a customer. I spent about 30 minutes on the phone, going through the exact same steps I had already gone through, but guess what, this time it magically worked with the router. I figure I must have missed something, although I've set up probably 100 of these things. My sister asks me to see if we can get the old one working so she could return the new one. She obviously doesn't want to pay for something she doesn't need, so I figure I'll give it a try. I reconnect everything and without altering the config in any way, it also magically works. I have to believe Earthlink is blocking people from setting up home networking on their own and forcing them to subscribe to their product. That seems like shady business practices to me. I even said as much to the tech before he agreed to help out. Then when he agreed to help, he told me he was going to note the account that assistance in setting up the router would only be allowed once and if future issues arise, support will be unavailable. Really? That makes it sound even shadier. Anyway, she is back up and running. Her first internet searches involve alternative ISPs that will service her address. I've always appreciated EarthLink, in that it doesn't boggle you down w/unnecessary software for connectivity. Many of us just want the service not the bloatededness of these proprietary experiences. I can't get high speed @ my house, and I've been forced to temporarily dust off the dial up login *gasp*. There are no open networks, and I've been researching my USB wireless modem options. While it's not DSL or cable, both of which I miss dearly---at least I'm online @ home. read more

EarthLink has been a problem since day one back in 2006. Most recently (Feb 2015), they lost over 120 emails. 60 from a person folder and 60 or so from my Inbox. What a bunch of losers!!!!!!!!! The only reason I keep them is because all my tax docs are on their site. But not for long! read more

Chose EarthLink for our new home due to them offering the fastest speed. 2 weeks after install they canceled our account without a heads up or telling us anything. Then they told us I couldn't get the 80MBPS promised and that worked for two weeks. Instead they downgraded us to 15 and after multiple hours on the phone and the frustration their customer service brought on I cancelled. EarthLink outsources the installation with AT@T, and their customer service is in another country. They only install 9:00-3:00 Monday-Friday. They did not tell me when I enrolled. They told me they would change the install time for me but it was never changed so the installer showed up at the wrong time. Then they took it upon themselves to schedule me for a day I didn't request. I spent hours on the phone with them. I'm going with a company that does there own installation. There is too much back and forth with EarthLink. They did refund my money since I never got service. read more

WORST experience ever!!! I called inquiring about rates since my contract with Comcast (they charge waaay too much, but at least it's reliable) was over. I should have known when someone on another continent picked up the phone that this company wouldn't have good communication between departments and that I would never be able to get through to a real person at headquarters in GA when I had a problem. The deal I was quoted was cheaper than the others I had called so I went ahead and signed up. Thank goodness I didn't give him my credit card info, but I did give him my address, full name & phone! The man on the phone told me a service guy would come out in a week to install my internet. I asked if I could get a sooner installation and he gave me a service number to call in my local area. He also gave me a confirmation number for the deal I signed on for. Well the service number is no longer in service so I called Earthlink back. They have no record of my account linked to my phone number or address. They kept asking for my account number when all I was given was a confirmation number; which they said was invalid. I had to ask 5 times to speak with a manager, thinking he/she would know how to find my account and why it's not there, but the outcome was the same. He told me to wait a few days to see if I get an email with my account number. Wait!? I don't think so. I told them I called them at their number from my number (the same number that shows up on their caller ID). When I repeated their number back to them, he told me that isn't their number. They have no idea how many numbers just transfer to that call center. I asked for the number to headquarters in GA, USA. Even that number is rerouted through the automated system to call the offshore outsourced call center where customer service goes to die. I'll be sure to update this review if I have any more contact with this company! Hopefully I never will!!! read more

absolutely horrible service techs and internet speeds can not hardly connect to the internet and customer service is unable to communicate they don't call back and then I guess they ran a diagnostic on my connection when it was unhooked because I can't ever get a connection they charge for everything and if I didn't have limited choices in my area I would have never even considered them especially once I learned the used century link service techs Century link is even worse I'm about to cancel my service and request a refund on this month and all of my installation costs!
