Nothing but crooks. We had EarthLink since January and we would literally lose service every 15 minutes, they wouldn't fix it. We moved next door to our previous address and were told they didn't offer it at our new address. Took two months to get someone out to hook it up at our new address, charging us for the c2 months we were without internet. They sent the wrong signal and refused to change it because that would make our bill cheaper. Now they want a 200 dollar early termination fee on top of charging us for two more months we haven't had them. They wouldn't give us the information to send the router back either so now it's going to go on our credit so screw you earthlink read more

I've been an Earthlink subscriber since the early Pleistocene. After dumping AOL, I signed up with this new provider that offered a better deal. Since then, providers such as Google and Yahoo have become the email of choice. But, you know, changing providers when your entire online presence is tied to your email address is a real pain. So, I've stuck with Earthlink. Along the way, we also signed up for their DSL service. This was back when cable internet wasn't very reliable and I wanted a backup feed. In the ensuing years, I haven't had much issue with Earthlink, other than they cost too much. They are reliable and getting technical service for the DSL line was actually much superior than what we got with Comcast for the cable. When we called Earthlink, we talked with an actual knowledgeable tech. Cancelling the DSL line (I didn't need it anymore) and keeping the email service was mildly annoying. Their website doesn't address email only and I think they only provide it to current subscribers. But the biggest complaint was the call center. Unlike the tech support service, billing and account issues are handled offshore and not very well. Given the reviews here concerning a failure to honor cancellation orders, I was a bit worried that switching from email + DSL to email only would not happen smoothly. But it did. My billing now reflects the promised email only rate. read more

I was a subscriber for over 15 years. Almost every year at the same time your service will turn off and you will have to call them to get it working again. During that time they will try to sell you extra storage, another modem, wifi, antivirus software and other stuff. I just had enough and just disconnected. i have no internet at home now but it just became too much with the constant calls and connection drops. Earthlink customer service is terrible. Its a call center in India and the accents are really hard to understand so i need the rep to repeat certain things. They become rude and aggressive if you cant understand the rep or you take to long with them, then they get really rude and will pass you to different people. You become the hot potato. read more

I called Earthlink today to ask if the company provides internet in my area. To call their behavior deceptive would not accurately reflect the outright lies and illegal actions. Earthlink claims to have better customer service than other internet companies. That would not be difficult to achieve, and it would have been greatly appreciated, but the company's behavior today was at least equal to if not much lower than what consumers have come to expect from internet providers. This company has proven itself to be entirely untrustworthy. Initially, I was told that 12 mbps was just as fast as 200 mbps because it was fiber cable, not coaxial cable. I was told that I agree to the terms before I was read the terms. I insisted that I had not agreed to the terms, because I didn't know what they were. When I was finally read the terms, I had to stop the salesperson's reading at breakneck speed after each sentence and ask her to repeat so that I could understand. After the second or third sentence, I said, "I don't agree to that." As she continued, I continued to say that I didn't agree, but she continued to disregard what I said. I was able to record the second part of the conversation with permission. Earthlink continued to disregard what I said. I said slowly and clearly, "I - do - NOT - want - Earthlink. I - do - NOT - agree - to - the - terms." The response was, "OK. I'm so sorry about that. I really do apologize for any misunderstanding. So, I'll just charge you half the installation fee." I repeated, "I - do - NOT - want - Earthlink. I - do - NOT - agree - to - the - terms." Again, the response was, "I really do apologize for any misunderstanding. That's all it was: a misunderstanding. We would just provide you with free installation basically." Again, "I - do - NOT- want - Earthlink." I don't think that these people are idiots. I believe that this behavior is sanctioned, if not required, by Earthlink. I have no reason to change to a different internet provider in order to pay a higher price for slower speeds and continue to be treated with complete disregard. read more

Customer service is horrible. Installation time was even worse. I called 18 times the first day asking where the installer was. Second day after getting bumped to the next day I had to call 26 times. The installer did a no call - no show both days. The reason? I found someone helpful and now have one month of internet with no charge. Yesterday the excuse was "a heavy workload". Today he won't be out because he was "compromised". Whatever that means. The guy I talked to didn't know. . They will call by Saturday. You have been put on high priority. I would have given no stars if that was an option. I purchased online which was a huge problem because of outsourcing. They don't train their operators very well and we're soooo hard to understand.! They overcharged me for internet that was as slow as dial up. My phone service was immensely faster. I canceled after three days and they barely gave me a third of my money back. They charged me 85 dollars for activating a service that wouldn't activate. Earth link is the hands down the worst "internet provider" in the history of this planet. They are essentially a middleman for AT&T but you won't get the best deals or the best speeds that AT&T could directly offer you. Once I learned I could get better speeds for cheaper through AT&T, I cancelled my service with earth link. They informed me that it would take 7-10 days to completely "release the line". It has been over a month since I cancelled and Earth Link has not "released the line". Essentially not allowing me to order service through a different provider. On top of this when I complained my "line" was suspended which doesn't release it, instead it stops you from visiting most sites on the internet and stops you from being able to stream, play video games or anything like that. But I still cannot order service with another provider because they tell me the line has not been released by earth link. So I come to you fellow Yelp reader as a broken man. I have called earth link customer service so many times over the last month pleading with them to release the line but every time I do I get the same answer: They have to contact the "back office team" so they can release the line. Earthlink cell phone service is junck. Customer service is non-existent. On13th December 13th, 2021 I tried to switched my service from Family Mobile to Earthlink. Today, December 25th, 2021, my phone has still not been activated. I called their customer service every day during that time and multiple times a day on a couple of days. They regularly disconnected me and did not call me back. There is a communication problems because they are from a different country. I had to repeat myself multiple times, and they still would not understand what I really wanted to do. On 12-24-21 I finally decided to go to Walmart to get service reversed from Earthlink back to Family Mobile. I called Earthlink to get my account information. Communication problem: I told customer service I was fed-up with Earthlink and needed the account info for a new vendor to change my service. Customer Service CLOSED my account so that when Family Mobile called them, they were unable to make the change. Three hours later and a conference call between Walmart's rep, Family Mobile's rep and tec support of Earthlink, we were told that they it would take between 2 minutes and 24 hours before Earthlinks' automated system would change the port. The Walmart and Family Mobile rep were shocked at the lack of appropriate service Earthlink provided and that they could not get anything done. read more

Curious that 3 years ago I wrote my initial review for Earthlink stating that I was going to trash them as soon as I had all of my email transferred over from them. Time got away from me, but Earthlink forced my hand and now we have no connection (literally) at all. Also curious is that this marks the 20th year that I was an Earthlink customer. I started with them way back with dial-up, then moved over to cable with them (billed through Time Warner that later became Comcast/Xfinity in my area). A series of events that seemed to be a Twilight Zone episode, however, severed my ties with them completely. My cable bill (including internet from Earthlink) was paid through September 9. But, shortly after midnight on August 20, my internet service ceased to exist. I called Comcast/Xfinity the following morning for assistance: modem was reset, signals were tested, you know - all that hoopla. I scheduled a tech to come out the following day. In the meantime, I drove to the Comcast store, acquired a new modem, installed it, activated it and received no results. When the tech came out the following day (we've now had no internet service for over 24 hours), he performs a series of wiring and equipment tests. All is working fine, until he starts digging into my account details. Shout out to Deric from Comcast/Xfinity for being so diligent. He was here for nearly 3 hours trying to resolve the issue, as he said he had seen this before during the past week, and so had another tech several times: Old Earthlink accounts that were grandfathered in at the $41.95 price per month for high-speed internet (70+ mbps) were being systematically erased from the books; their service was being shut off and the customer's account would need to be "rebuilt" in order to regain internet access; the customer would then need to pay the current monthly charge of nearly $70 or so to get the same speeds. This made so much sense, since when I initially called Comcast for tech support, my account via my phone number couldn't be located, then it couldn't be located via my account number once I entered it, despite the fact that I've been a Comcast (Time Warner/cable) customer for over 25 years. Round and round with multiple people by both the tech and I got us nowhere to regain my service, as a signal was evident and could be detected but it was clearly apparent I had no provider of record. With nearly 3 weeks remaining for service that I had paid for, Earthlink shut me off without warning in the middle of the night. I was left with no choice but to sign up for Xfinity internet in order to regain connectivity. When I called Earthlink to make sure I would not be billed (for some odd reason I was still getting emails), an extraordinarily rude, condescending and extremely difficult to understand foreigner chastised me to "be quiet" and told me "listen to me, young lady!" because he wanted to know if I wanted to continue my email access for a set monthly fee. HELL NO! If I had the choice between Earthlink and an old Morse code telegraph, I think I'd choose the telegraph because it's more reliable and it won't give you a snarky-ass, flippant attitude if something goes wrong. I've been a customer for 20+ years. No issues until the last couple of years. I haven't been able to access my internet service for the past 8 days. I've spent over a week talking to tech reps on the phone and have been given a couple of resolutions that were supposed to work. No luck. Completely unreliable. Was told that service would be installed 1/29. That service was cancelled and rescheduled for 2/3. Not only did the technician not show up on 2/3, but they didn't call to reschedule. When I started the service in December they told me to try it and I did my data runs out so fast they are telling me to may reset my settings don't use as many devices only run certain ones basically one tv at a time had they told me that in the beginning I would have never chose them. I made the phone call saying I wasn't satisfied long story short after the third phone call they are trying to charge my card and telling me they will escalate the call don't cancel if I cancel I won't get any money back so far since December I have been charged almost $300 bucks don't do it!!! How are these folks still in business? I started with tiac.net decades ago and they were bought up by Earthlink. Since then, there has been an unending series of problems. The technical stuff is what it is. Their IT department is an embarrassment. Billing is a chronic problem. They used to sent me a paper invoice for a dollar and change every month. I tried to pre-pay to avoid the monthly paper statement, but that was not - effective. After some years I found that sending money blindly would get sometimes get into the account, saving the monthly statements and regular dunning notices. After a few years, they allowed electronic invoices, which ar all marked high priority. The annual shut off notices continue. Currently, I have sent 4 checks over as many months, totaling about two hundred dollars. In a dozen phone calls, each upwards of an hour, we have determined that I have calmed many times and sent money many times, but they go right back to dunning and shut off notices. Their people cost something, even if super cheap overseas labor, it has to be more than the fifty dollars a year that they want to provide EMail relay service. It is not clear who is in charge, as management and ownership appear to keep changing. if you can avoid EARTHLINK, do so. AVOID EARTHLINK! read more

Whenever I get foreign people on the other end of the phone I admire them but the language barriers make it difficult to understand. They are the worst isp i have ever had. I have been living in Indiana for a little over 3 months and i decided to use them thinking they seem good. Every month i loose service, one of their reps actually told me and i quote i need to hire my own tech to come in and fix a problem with their service. They once sent a tech to my house without notifying me first. He shows up and told my wife he needs to get inside my apartment. Lucky i had not driven off yet. Then he tried to get smart with me. Its not until i told my wife to call the police and told him he can't leave until they get here that he starts verifying himself etc. On Christmas day my internet went out and is still out. I am fed up. I decided to cancel my service with them. Now they are trying to tell me that there is a early termination fee. read more

luckily I read the reviews before I activated my wireless service. unfortunately I didn't read the reviews before I ordered the service. I told the lady I would need it for remote work and was assured it would work well, come to find out there's a data cap and the wireless will cut off after a short period of time. For 100+ a month I should have working wifi for the month. After having to argue with someone to cancel my service I returned the box and am still waiting on my refund. It is the worse internet service that exists. I actually paid 156.00 for supposedly one month service and my service ran out of data in 3 days!! I was livid I had to buy 50.00 more of serviceand it ran out in 1 day. So I paid 200.00 for internet service that lasted only about a week. I felt robbed this was unacceptable!! I went to Xfinity paid 89.00 and I'm happy with their service. I have unlimited data and nothing even slows down. I'm doing this review so that others don't get robbed like I did. Customer service is incompetent. The department is outsourced, which isn't a big deal per say, but there is a language barrier. I called twice to have my service transferred to my new address. I was told a technician would call me to set up a time for installation. Days go by and no word. I call again and wait three days for a return call from the technician. No returned call but instead a charge of $80 to my card for transferring services that I didn't get! Canceled my service due to this headache. read more

The customer services is the most unprofessional I have ever dealt with. Astanda and the manager on duty Pushra were extremely rude, unprofessional and pushy. They hung up on me several times over the course of trying to cancel my business services. Their business services did not work for my space, but they would not seem to care about that. If I could not give a star to you I wouldn't! EarthLink seems to be a waste of a provider and you would be better off going to a direct provider like Comcast or AT&T, who is the actual provider for my internet. Their customer service, who seem to be outsourced, could not even understand my situation as I informed them AT&T was working on our lines and due to Covid-19, my roommate is working from home and cannot do his job without the internet as he works in customer service for a US company. Instead I spent wasted time troubleshooting modem that wasn't the problem and sat there waiting for them to tell me technicians were coming out to my house. Do you not understand that we are in a pandemic with Covid-19 and technicians are not really supposed to be entering homes? I was not even allowed to talk to the technical team to figure out what was going on, because clearly customer service didn't and was told they would only speak to an authorized dealer. If you are thinking about EarthLink, don't. Pay a little extra and go directly with a provider because you will likely get better service and direct answers instead of having issues like this, which now I'm waiting on a technician to come out between noon and 4 pm to "look at the lines and troubleshoot the modem." I would rate this a zero. It is true if you move they don't tell you your year will restart even after asking they lie to you. They just want to take your money. They are scammers. Their customer service is horrible you can never get anything resolved. I was told I had to pay a cancellation fee and they told me it will be charged the next month and the next day the charge is already there. DONT DO IT. Horrible experience from start to finish. I was lied to multiple times by various customer service agents. I was promised upload and download speeds and I am not even getting 10% of the speed they assured me. I had customer service agents tell me I would be able to call them back at a particular time and when I called at the time THEY told me to call, they were closed. I was told I would get a $100 visa gift card for signing up... 2 months later I called to inquire about it and they told me I had to be a customer for 90 days with no late fees (they left this info out - I wouldn't even be upset about this but it's just another area they conveniently left out information). I was told when we reached our allotted data they would throttle back the speed but WOULD NOT shut down all service. They shut down all my service. They claimed they sent an email and text, I received neither. In the emails I was receiving it was alerting me to my data usage but stated my service would be throttled back and NOT cut off. When I inquired about cancelling their services they said they would give me 15gb for free and it would be automatically applied and my husband who was working from home would be able to access the internet immediately. This was also a lie. By the time i got home, a few hours later, it still wasn't working. I reset the router twice today (I was told I should reset the router every 2 days to help improve speed) and still no internet. Every customer service rep I talk to says something different. They are friendly but that's about it. Today One person told me there was a service outage today and they sent technicians to look at it, then someone I spoke to maybe 30 minutes later told me they cut off my service due to using all the data, so which was it, the outage or cutting off my service without notifying me. - not worth the money - customer service is useless. This is the short version of my complaint, I was really hopeful for this service and I'm not one to usually complain but the fact that I was misled is just unacceptable. And the fact that almost every time I called I was told different things from different agents is very upsetting. Get it together. read more

I set up by phone with EarthLink to have a modem connection for internet and television services in my new home. They ask for $69.95 up front and a 24 month contract. They then set up a service instillation and inform you you'll be contacted by text for exact instillation details. The nothing happens until you call them and ask what's going on. They put you on hold forever and then state instillation might take an additional two weeks. They then try to not refund you your fees pad out for no service and bounce you around from department to department to make you go away. They'd note account and I'd have no issues. I called a couple of weeks later to pay, and the agent refused my payment, basically told me to go F myself and find another internet provider. I've had this service since June of 2021, my family and I have had nothing but problems day in day out. Week after week. My kids sometimes have to use the internet for school when they're out and the connection wouldn't connect to anything. I've called so many times and they say that they run a check to see what the problem is but nothings changed. It came to me getting another internet service line in the place just so they can keep up and not be behind and THAT service (T-Mobile) is better. 5g and can hook up how many devices you want to. Charter customer of Earthlink when they started in Pasadena, CA... Just today, and only because none of my websites parked at EL would come up, did I call customer service. After fruitless wait times on hold, asking for a US based CSR, I started Googling "earthlink complaints." Lo and behold, within minutes, did I see that Earthlink was bought in 2016 by a firm that then sold the consumer assets/accounts to Trive Capital, Dallas, earlier this year 2019. Now I'm reading consumer complaints from similar long time subscribers like me. If you're in the same boat, I believe there may be enough here for a class action law suit. All of my website property access has been removed, and I have no access. From others I've found out that this has happened to other long time accounts. While I didn't change from Earthlink when I did have other personal email options, I'm realizing there's no reason to continue paying for a service I don't have. Gmail is free, and from what I can see, Earthlink isn't offering much reason for me to continue. Not a happy camper........... read more
