This company is awful. Their sales persons deceive you and tell you that the speed they offer is gonna be adequate and it's slow as molasses. I have Earthlink ADSL service. When it works, it works well. Every once in a while, the service goes down. About 2 or 3 times a year, it goes down for a day or more. If I call them when the service is down, they try to sell me a new modem. They almost always say the problem is at my end. They sometimes try to blame the problem on my land line. The original modem that came with my ADSL connection still works, but I decided to buy my own (Netgear) DSL modem. I want to have the option of escaping from Earthlink if the service gets much worse. Earthlink does not itemize their bills. I asked them if I am paying a rental fee for the old Zyxel Prestige 645M-UHP modem. They say they I am not paying anything for it. They also say it is obsolete and they told me to throw it away (I have kept it anyway, in case I want to use it for troubleshooting). Earthlink is getting pretty expensive and the price keeps going up. I have been keeping the service mostly because I have an Earthlink email address that I don't want to change at this time. I will probably change to a gmail address sometime in the future in order to have the flexibility to change internet providers. Their customer service chat line seems to have more knowledgeable people than their customer service phone lines. They also have some pretty good customer support documentation on line, if you're willing to search around for it a little bit. In conclusion, I don't think Earthlink is great by any means, but I don't think they suck as much as most of the other reviews I have seen would indicate. read more

This company should be under investigation. And, I am not exaggerating. I've been a customer for nearly 19 years, and my inbox is crammed full of spam that even a bot could tell is spam. Every day, 50 or more spam emails come through. My belief is that Earthlink is selling our emails out to spammers, then working with the spammers to have access to our accounts. I block them every day, and they just reappear with different domains. I will get four or five of the same exact spam emails, a minute apart each. A monkey could figure that out, and yet they refuse to do any work on the back end to eliminate this problem. It is beyond frustrating. Their tech support is TERRIBLE. Snarky guys from India. And all while they are charging me. I am slowly migrating my mails over to other accounts. I know it's scary thinking about it, but it's not been as bad as I thought, and it is never worth letting an awful company take advantage of you like Earthlink does. During the setup of a new account customer support lied to me several times saying I would not be charged that day, only after installation was completed. I let them know several times I did not have funds and I would have to call them back the next week to setup my account. I am glad I didn't wait. Not only did I find out they lie to you while recording it for their company, I also found out they won't mention the installation fee unless you specifically ask, but they will tell you that you will not be charged FOR SERVICE for 1 month, and that you have 30 days to cancel service for no charge. My prepaid card was declined and I got out of the situation with only a $4 decline fee for my year of headaches saved. I would rate them 5/5 stars for trying to put themselves out of business. It seems that in my state AT&T did all the work installing fiber, and Earthlink gets to take advantage of it, with much worse customer support than I have ever gotten from AT&T. read more

We had a T-1 with 6 phone lines with Deltacom/Earthlink. It is old technology and I can see clearly that they are not putting any effort in support. Sometimes my service is out for entire day with no technical help. They changed the "itran" modem a few times and they are all refurbished. When I decided to leave, they need 30-day written notice and I still have to pay for that 30-day. When I sent the notice on June 30th, they cut my lines immediately and I lost business. I called to restore the lines and they said that would extend my 30-day notice. So I am paying 30-day service fee without service. That is not right. read more

LIES AND DECEIT They are dishonest about the service you will receive and how that service works. They told me I could receive fiber, promised they had made sure it was available at my address and that - even at 25mbps it would do so much more than my current standard internet with another provider.  I wasn't entirely sure this was true but I was willing to test it with fiber to see if there really was a difference and eventually upgrade my speed if I needed to. When ATT showed up that morning to connect the service, as Earthlink does not do so (thank goodness for small miracles!), the tech informed me that there was no fiber in my area, there had never been fiber in my area, and that they had scheduled me for 25mbps of standard internet - something they were going to charge me nearly as much as I pay for the 400mbps from a different provider!  He also confirmed my suspicion that the 25 on fiber was never going to keep up with 400 standard and that what the sales rep had told me was a complete and utter lie.  They will lie to you and say anything to make a sale, apparently!  Now I have to sit through their ridiculously long hold lines to try and get my installation fee back. read more

Just want to give zero to the company's Earthlink service, it is totally a fraud to me. I am new to this place in Baltimore so that I knew nothing about Internet companies; a Xfinity employee lied to me (or under his negligence) that I could only pick the service from Earthlink, and I ordered that. I provided my information to their HORRIBLE customer service who could not speak English properly, which took me 3 hours to set up my account and Internet services. However, the lights went wrong, and I called the customer service again and again, but I could not fix that. Finally, I cancelled my service, but they charged me $90 for cancellation. Right, this is a business fraud, I got nothing, but losing the time and energy for a month. Earthlink SUCKS. read more

I hate this service... I have been with them since they started as Netcom and I am just waiting for a better service to take it's place and well my term run out. I hate the fact that I have to talk to someone in another country. When are the US companies going to get it and realize that a 3% return on your business isn't going to work for that long. My company sent everyone home due to the whole pandemic going on. I set up Earthlink to expedite my installation for 27 March 2020 due to me working for Humana. No one showed on 27 March to install. Called 28 March to find out why and had to deal with live chat. No expedite order issued, rep says install set for 30 March. Very next sentence says install will be done 31 March. Told them to cancel. Let's see if they refund the install fee or try to get me for the cancellation of a service I didn't receive. read more

Awful service and unwilling to help. I would go so far as to claim fraud. I signed up for Earthlink but the internet doesn't work. I am in the swamplands of Louisiana. My cell barely works either. I am taking over my sister's website while she recovers from surgery and I can't have an internet that doesn't work. I have to drive into town just to download a file. There are times that I can't even connect at my home. I wanted to switch to AT&T so that I can get reliable internet and phone. When I called I was told that I would be required to pay a $200 fee because I was locked into a year contract. I was never told anything about a contract. No agent ever mentioned that when I signed up. They told me that that information would have been in the welcome package I was sent. That welcome package came after I had signed up. I was not notified of this by the CSR, so that to me is fraud. Companies know that very few people read contracts. That's just reality. I was also told that because I never called to complain about the service, the $200 charge is valid! Why would I have called? They can't fix the crappy service in the backwoods of Louisiana! I called my cell phone provider on several occasions and they couldn't improve my service. To prove my point, the call dropped 3 times while I was on the phone with Earthlink, and my voice cut out about a dozen times. That's how bad service is out here in the boonies! I wasted an hour and a half on the phone with them and they refused to lower or cancel the $200 fee. I can send them a video of me trying to use the internet to prove my point. The CSR was rude and spoke over me. When I told her that I would be leaving a negative review she condescendingly told me to be sure to state that the 2 year contract information was sent to me in the welcome email. When I said that I would be unwilling to pay, Earthlink told me that they would put it in collections. I am now obliged to pay $200 because their service doesn't work. Unreal. I will scream to everyone I know in person and online not to deal with this company. read more

I'll try to keep this short. Installation and billing are the same issues as others, I got home internet. Had no problems for 2 months, Then the "service" light went out on the AT&T modem. Same issues calling customer service in Mumbai. AT&T Techs came out 7 times, first guy says he can't fix issues, he sends another guy out the next day to replace wires in back yard running from terminal to house. Told I don't have to be home as tech will not need access to inside of house. This happened 3 times. Mumbai is psyco calling me at work to ask if I have service and if I'm at home. Had internet for 2 days, couldn't surf because the only webpage that would come up said my computer had to be registered with AT&T with 9 digit account number- Mumbai had no clue what that was. Tech came out and called AT&T and Earthlink, they both told him to call the other and a "Tech was scheduled to come to my home!" I heard this no less that 1000 times! Even the "Executive Escalation Team that's in the U.S.said the same! After an hour he got an agent on the phone who actually new what he was talking about. These people are idiots. the ONLY reason I left AT&T is I needed a lower cost option. I told them they breached the contract as they did not provide me with a service I paid for, and they said If I cancelled I would have to pay a $250.00 fee. I'll see them on Judge Judy!! read more

I tried (stupidly) to get EarthLink in my new home since june3rd 2019...they lied everytime you talked to them. After 3 weeks of bull shut I went to ATT (wonderful so far) and then today July 4th got another installation date ( no shows 3 other times) for the 7th. Called them today and told them to fuck off, most unprofessional company that I have seen in a while, called them lying bastards and dared them to hit my card....called bank and my friend that works in accounts said they wouldn't be able to touch my accounts (thank you jesus), and then told them that if they were going to work for an (undoubtedly unamerican, since sending jobs outside of country) that maybe they should fucking speak English...hung up and damn do I feel great. Starting off they have the WORST customer service department for ISP providers. They're reading from a script 100% of the time and bad at it. If there is a problem with your internet it's the same thing everytime reset it (which by now everyone knows to do before calling) then tells you to wait while they call there "back office" aka CenturyLink. Then proceed to tell you there is an outage or some other issue. Pray it's not an issue that requires a technician because that will take 3 or more days and hope it's not a weekend. When the technician does show up it's CenturyLink. Most unreliable ISP I've ever had been stuck with there contract now for 7 months and the internet goes out at least 2 times a month EVERY month. I will be switching to CenturyLink after this instead of going through the middle S#%T company. Trust the yelp 1 star it is completely true. read more

This is the worst company and they should by all accounts be out of business. Their customer service is HORRIBLE and when you try to cancel your service with them they will try to keep charging your credit card and keep sending you bills. I had been a customer for more than 11 years and had originally used them for internet service and then kept an email only account after I went to Time Warner. I got a notice in late January stating that my account was past due and I owed 9.90 and that it would be deactivated on Feb 10 if payment was not received before then. I called on Feb 10 to verify it was cancelled and paid the 9.90 I owed them. The person I spoke to assured me that it was cancelled. Just to be sure I called back on Feb 15 and was told it was still active. I was then assured on Feb 15 that it was indeed cancelled effective Feb 15 and that I did not owe any more money. Then I got a bill today for an additional $16.05 for a reactivation fee. They illegally tried to bill me for a reactivation fee that I never authorized and continued to ignore my multiple cancellation requests. I have had to spend hours on the phone for a simple cancellation because they are greedy and want to keep sending you bills or keep trying to charge your credit card. This is a deceptive, dirty company and it is no accident that the only way you can contact them is by phone as they don't want things to be documented in writing. For the love of God, please stay AWAY from earthlink! read more

Very bad customer service so I changed to other provider. Furthermore, they are still trying to charge my credit card.

I went with EarthLink because they promised they could set me up with internet within a 24-48hr time frame- timing was very important to me because I work from home. They sent me a *schedule time* at about the 48th hr, the schedule date was almost a week out! I called to cancel the service however, they offered to refund the installation fee and at that point every other provider was going to take about the same amount of time. On the date of the installation date, at the time of my scheduled installation from 8-10am, no one showed up. I called EarthLink to find out where the installation person was, they advised that the installation person was running a little behind and then *guaranteed* me that someone would be at my door within 20-30 minutes time. 1hr later I called back only to be on and off of hold for roughly 40 minutes for them to tell me it was likely an uncertain no-show... meaning ... a no-show. Their option? To give a whopping $15 credit and to reschedule. I asked when they could reschedule, they did not even have a time available to provide me on hand! I asked to cancel the service. They had to transfer me again for over what was an hr wait. This has all accumulated to over a week's delay of internet only to have to cancel. How is their actual internet? Who even knows!! If you're looking for a real provider I 1000% do *not* recommend EarthLink. read more

I signed up for Earthlink years ago. I need to get away from it. It has the worse customer service (INDIA)...speaking with people that I cannot understand or hear. Not to mention that there are constant issues with their services! Weekly I have email issues, it's such a joke. They really need to get out of the business if they cannot figure out what they are doing...I mean it is technology. Sure there are bumps randomly, but I shouldn't have to be constantly calling them because of issues on their end. They never offer any sort of credit either. It is only getting one star because I can't put 0. You cannot cancel online and I have been disconnected multiple times trying to call them. I reached one person and spoke at length with her after telling her I wanted to cancel and then she said she had to transfer me to someone else.(Seems pretty easy to just cancel me but she wouldn't do it) I said I didn't want to be disconnected and she said she wouldn't and then she did. Our company has our phones through EarthLink/Windstream Business and we have been a customer for many years. Recently there was a circuit board failure in the area and our phones (22 of them) went down. It took Earthlink two business days to get the system restored. Our clinic is a medical office so this situation was extremely concerning. The original outage to the area was fixed within 90 minutes but our lines remained out. We placed numerous phone calls to offshore support and each time we were told it was fixed or that they were troubleshooting. Communication was minimal at best. The phone support has a script that they go through, but they do not understand or troubleshoot outside of that script. Their answer is to reset the box. It took numerous calls to finally get a representative who agreed to send a field tech out. Sometime later an AT & T tech came and said that their T1 line looked fine. No Earthlink representative ever came. He left and said it is EarthLink's issue. That again started repeated phone calls to Earthlink (offshore). Even after asking for a supervisor/manager we still weren't given answers. It took 2 business days to restore service and a number of field agents all claiming it wasn't their issue. On day two an emergency call was placed to get an AT&T and Earthlink representative here at the same time. It became apparent that Earthlink never reset our line when their circuit board failed. This minor mistake cost our business 2 days of productivity and put our patients at risk. Our office was celebrating our 12 days of Christmas event which is our busiest time of the year and one incoming line was not able to handle the influx of calls. It also jeopardized our medical patients. EarthLink's lack of response and follow through placed our office in a compromising situation. Their emergency protocol is non-existent and their support lines are severely lacking. My first recommendation to avoid these concerns is: * Find another carrier if you need phone service. In the unfortunate event that you are already contracted and unable to terminate your relationship, make sure you transfer the calls to an available cell phone or to an existing fax line. Subsequent lines can also be ported to other phone carriers temporarily. One employee should be assigned to "triage" or field the incoming calls and other employees can use cell phones to return the calls. Asking Earthlink for suggestions on how to address handling the calls is useless. They have no protocol in place to help the customer continue to work while Earthlink figures out their mess. * It is critical that you ask for onshore support and escalation if you have a concern or issue. This will allow you to reach someone in the United States in a management/supervisor position. Trying to troubleshoot the issue with the offshore support will only extend the problem and cause headaches. * Also, when an onsite support call is made, question what representative is being called in and if there will be charges. We were unaware that AT&T was called in originally, but have been informed in hindsight that we will incur charges because it was not their issue. Any charges that may occur from that call will be handed back to Earthlink. I am not phone savvy but it is my understanding that there are a lot of partners that the phone service goes through before the call reaches you including, the phone company, the local telephone line carrier, an exchange service, your phone system host and the company that makes the phone. Some of those players might do more than one job but trying to figure out who does what in an outage or emergency and getting them to fix it is both time consuming and stressful. Do NOT do business with Earthlink. Earthlink should be the subject of an investigation for unfair and dishonest business practices. Recently, I asked AT&T to establish internet service for a new address. The AT&T tech stated that AT&T installed insufficient portals in the neighborhood. He could not connect the property to internet until AT&T installed new portals. He stated that could take 7 days or longer. So, I called Earthlink since it appeared to have high reviews. (I should have checked Yelp first.) The Earthlink sales rep assured me that Earthlink has sufficient portals in the neighborhood. I told him about the situation with AT&T. Again, he assured me that Earthlink has sufficient portals. This morning I received an automated text from Earthlink stating that Earthlink uses equipment owned by AT&T. An AT&T tech would arrive to connect the internet service to an AT&T portal. The Earthlink sales rep made no mention of any affiliation with AT&T when I signed up for service. I called Earthlink customer service. They hung up on me THREE times. I have lodged a dispute with my credit card company in an effort to claw back the charge from Earthlink. Because of the lie told by the Earthlink rep, I've lost a few days and I still have to get AT&T to come install a portal before I can have internet. Three people in my family telecommute. Our jobs depend upon having internet service. Thanks to Earthlink's dishonesty, it will now take even longer for us to obtain internet service. read more

Earthlink charges $20/year for a domain name. They charge you for it two months in advance of it expiring--BUT they don't send you an email about the renewal until about 6 weeks in advance. So by then, you're out of luck and the auto renewal is already happening. That's bad enough. But the real kicker is YOU CAN'T CANCEL THE NEXT CYCLE. No. You can't say, OK, I'll pay for the next 12 mos but after that, I don't want it anymore. You have to call 1-2 days in advance of that two-month renewal window the following year or it starts all over again. I'm not even sure that's legal, but it's definitely crap business practice and customer service. As a result, I've been holding onto a domain I don't even want. I've set my calendar alarm a year in advance, hopefully I can stop it next time. But this kind of shady rubbish practice is disgraceful. read more

This is by far the worst hosting company I have ever dealt with. We have been a customer for over 20 years, with MindSpring and dial-up was a thing. Then Earthlink came along and bought up all their technology and outsourced all the labor to countries like India. I have no problem a company outsourcing labor contracts, but when you do that and have less than parr technology then is looks and feels real bad for the loyal customers and small business owners who are not web people. Ever since they created their portals and earthlink-mindspring account linkage they have been difficult to use and REALLY confusing to navigate between the 2. They bury the important option deep into their stack so you have to dig, and by the time you find what you are looking for it is eather innacurate or outdated info and you have to contact them on the phone or chat where a CS agent will sales pitch you after every call...it get annoying. Earthlink/Mindspring is the most confusing, non-supportive, outdated, piece of legacy system junk in the webhosting market. I love to support local business when I can...but definitely not these guys. Not anymore. No way Jose. I will keep my MindSpring e-mail account, but everything else will be canceled for good, permanently. No more sleepless nights waiting on a slow domain manager to update, or webserver crash to recover. Leaving this company has to be the best decision I have made this decade. They have outsourced their CS and technical support to India in the past to the point it was unbearable to understand or get timely support. I have no problem with outsourcing labor, but when you have short whitted CS paired with legacy hardware and outdated support files followed by poorly developed software with a horrible UX and UI design that is just trying to keep up with the other hosting providers in the industry....well it tells you what kind of company you are and how much they love to take your monthly auto renew money for an inferior service. I am so glad I moved our website to a provider that gets it and is one of the oldest originals in the industry and yet not overly bearingly complicated to use on the backend. I rather fork over more dollars just for simplicity and functionality followed by 24/7 support, not 12/5 support. They are lucky to get a star if it wasn't that it was a requirement to write this review. If you are new to the web world and looking to host a website...look elsewhere, you can do better. I had an earthlink email account that they told me I could keep after they stopped providing internet in Houston. After 10 years, they suddenly blocked my account and want to charge me money to download my emails on their server. they practically took my emails hostage and would not let me download them without paying them money. I'm filing a complaint with district attorney for their unethical practice. I wouldn't trust this company for any type of business. read more

I live in an apartment complex in San Diego. I called every internet provider searching for fiber optic, AT&T included. I was told by every company that they could not give me fiber optic because of where I live (the apartment complex is the issue). When I called EarthLink and gave them my address, apartment number included, the sales rep informed me they could give me fiber optic and increase my speeds and connection. That is the only reason I paid for them to install their equipment, with the idea that I would be getting fiber optic. Come day of installation I discover it's an AT&T technician installing my equipment because EarthLink piggy-backs off of their fiber optic cable. When I asked the installing technician why I couldn't get fiber optic direct from AT&T he told me it's because there is no fiber optic connection to this complex, and the connection he was giving me was not fiber optic, but fiber based because he was attaching a copper line to the fiber optic line. 24 hours after my install I called into EarthLink customer service ready to cancel because the service was even worse than what I had before. After being on the phone for an hour while they ran diagnostic and latency tests I was told they would have to send a technician out to see why I wasn't receiving the service I was promised. When the technician came out, 7 total days after my install, he informed me that they couldn't provide me with fiber optic because of where I lived. This was another AT&T technician, the people whose service lines and equipment EarthLink is piggy-backing off of. When I called to cancel the service and request a full refund I was told they couldn't refund my installation fee because, in their eyes, they were providing a fiber based service so they did live up to their promise, even though my connection and speeds were even worse than before I had their service and that wouldn't be the case if they had provided me with an actual fiber optic connection. That's like running 240 volts to a building, then stepping it down so the house can only handle 120 volts. Yes you had the better amount running TO the building, but once there you used a connection that would only allow it to run a smaller amount. I know the sales rep was just going off of what their system showed, I don't believe anyone gave me misleading information purposefully, but what I don't understand is how they won't refund me when the only reason I paid for the install was with the understanding I was getting fiber optic connection and not fiber based connections that actually performed worse. The absolute worst company ever!! I called to inquire about service on July 8, 2021 and spoke to Andre. Once the salesperson mentioned an installation fee, I let him know I wasn't interested. ANDRE mentions he could speak to his supervisor about approving a $100 pre-paid Visa card to cover the fees. I agree to this and a monthly payment of $59.75. A few weeks later and I had not received the gift card in the mail. I call their customer service number thats outsourced! I call their sales line and speak to pretty much everyone working that day! No one can give me a solution because they also work for 3 other companies. One tells me they approved my request and gives me a third party number. The third party says im not a registered client. THIS COMPANY EMPLOYS AND ALLOWS LIARS! I finally contact them via instagram and get a response after a week of leaving comments. They issue a refund then increase my monthly fee to $89 without notice!!! I specifically chose the lowest-tier service to pay the lowest offered price!! DO NOT SIGN UP WITH THIS COMPANY!! This is why internet providers need to be regulated and I suggest everyone files a complaint with their local government. read more

Since customer support is not a term familiar to Earthlink this is the most positive comment I can make. I eventually moved to dial-up service as a backup to my Verizon FIOS and finally decided why pay for something I never use? Thus began the conflict of Earthlink's ability to provide customer support. I tried to cancel my account. Something users cannot troubleshoot on their own. No one actually speaks English so this proved difficult. When I finally found someone with enough scrambled English to admit they understood what I wanted I only had to argue with them for perhaps another half hour after already being on hold for half an hour. You guessed it, there IS no way to cancel service online. You must speak to someone live. After receiving an actual cancellation notification the final step of Earthlink was to charge me for yet another month of service. Of course I was under no contract and had already been trying to cancel my service for several months. Why anyone continues service with this company is beyond me. Run away! read more

I wish I could give them negative stars, I cancelled all my services at a remote office I was no longer plannig on using. They said they needed something in wirting on company letterhead which I obliged to. I wrote down exactly this "Please disconnect all services at blah blah blah " I recently found out through my accountant that I was still being billed for the service as of 11/1. I called the ask for a refund and I kid you now they are telling me that Please disconnect all services was to vague for a disconnect order. These people are thieves read more

You have got to be kidding me. As a 20+ year customer of Mindspring.com I tried to cancel my email account with EarthLink that I have not used in over 5 years. There must be a place with fire and brimstone for customer service tactics such as these. Shame, Shame, Shame. read more

Very slow connection most of the time, no way you can stream a movie w/o interruption, bad!

My former ISP, (Time-Warner), found it amusing to employ Vanna White when computing my monthly bill. She would spin the wheel, and thereby determine that month's billing amount. Up to the gills, I started inquiring to other providers. Earthlink was the most aggressive of the lot, and interestingly offered their service through Time-Warner for a fixed cost that was $20 less than the ones Time-Warner usually threw my way. Having managed to stay on the melon truck back in the day, I opted for their service. Then came the upsell attempt. Unlimited backup accessible from any corner of the globe, and Norton 360 Premier service for about $18 a month...thereby netting out to no cost savings and a new New Delhi based CSR deparment with which to deal. No thank you. Fine says the CSR, just give me your credit card info and we'll be ready to rock and roll! Info provided. Several months into it, I start talking with the Mrs., and we determine that Time-Warner is still biliing us, and Earthlink is debiting our credit card monthly. Long story shorter, the CSR at Earthlink slammed a sale of the upsell service on my account, and that was what the credit card info was for, not to execute the change to Earthlink. Sanjoy and Babu, (aka Sam and Dave), at their CSR department didn't want to credit my account for the falsified charges, so I simply went to the credit card company. Earthlink fought it! What???? But I fought Earthlink and won. Just demand they play the tape of your conversation and send an audio file to you. The truth can prevail! read more
