I was incredibly impressed by the expertise and troubleshooting diligence exhibited by Kermit and the team at SHA. As a female, I usually hate speaking with auto shops because you either get dismissed or talked down to. Quite the contrary! Kermit walked me through the issue, was transparent along the way, showed me photos to review the work that had been done, and exhibited excellent customer service. I went in for a basic oil change and car inspection. The staff was cordial, courteous, and prompt, which I really appreciated. Customer service was definitely a strong point. However, I did have some concerns about the thoroughness of the inspection. I was able to point out a few things myself that were initially missed, and it seemed like the technician performing the inspection may have been new, as they needed guidance from more experienced team members. Because of this, I don't feel completely confident that the inspection was as comprehensive as it should have been. Unfortunately, I don't currently have the time or resources to seek a second opinion, so I'll have to move forward and hope everything is in good shape. Fingers crossed.

They allowed us time to decide if it was worth fixing and were creative about getting the costs to something more affordable but ultimately I agreed to have all but one item fixed. Their willingness to work with me on it really sealed the deal. I never felt pressured one way or the other and researched the prices of each repair item and they were market value. I really appreciated that I wasn't given grief for wanting to fix this old beauty instead of calling it quits and also appreciated their confidence in doing this amount of work to make it like new. Most importantly, the repairs were done right without gimmick and they're under warranty! This Christian Brothers Automotive is thorough and the final cost was reasonable compared to the quote (slight increase from what looks like parts being a tad more than anticipated). The initial inspection was awesome too, they have pictures for everything and tell you what's good, not just bad. While I understand that unexpected issues can happen, those are all important parts of the service you're paying for, and using the wrong oil filter is especially concerning. I'll never take my vehicle back to a shop/mechanic who isn't honest. Wife took the 4Runner in recently to get an oil change, after sitting in the bay for over 10 minutes with no work being done, they gave her some excuse about having problems with the skid plate and that theres not being enough screws to mount it. She calls me and I talk to the guy and tell him, "Well you guys did the last oil change so if the screws are missing it's on you". He blames it on employees who don't work there anymore but ensures me there's still 3 of the 5 left so I tell him to mount it. She gets back after home after 45 mins at the place, what happened to 10 minute oil changes? I go out and check the skid plate only to see it's barely hanging on with 1 screw. Check the oil and it's half a quart low. So for an almost $100 oil change, they shorted me on oil half a quart and lose the mounting screws for the skid plate and not once did they offer to fix it. No discount on the oil, no offering to order new screws, nothing, they just BS'd their way through it to get the sale. Ended up having to go to the dealership and order new mounting screws for the skid plate which cost $20 and had to buy a quart of oil to top it off so in all, this oil change cost $135 and some change. After almost 10 years of getting my oil changed at this place I'll be going somewhere else from now on.

The technician told me that Ford had filled my transfer case with the wrong fluid and that it was leaking. This was surprising, as the service at Ford had been completed just one month and three days prior. To be safe, I took the fluid sample back to Ford. They reviewed both the sample and their service records and confirmed that the correct fluid had been used. I also had an independent mechanic evaluate it, and they confirmed there was absolutely nothing wrong. I was also told there was a leak, but I have seen no evidence of any leaking fluid where the vehicle is parked. This experience caused unnecessary stress and wasted time getting second opinions. Based on my experience, I would strongly encourage others to verify any major claims made here before taking further action.

In my situation, the last place I went to cranked the oil filter on so hard that 3 guys couldn't get it off (not a surprise - Jiffy Lube who offered such a horrible experience that I will never go to one again. I know they are franchised - but don't care. Won't do it, it was that horrible). Anyway, the guys here said to go back to the same JL, and once I get the canister open, they will replace the filter.
